But few minuts after opening the database, enterprice manager cosole display that agent and Database Instance is down.
    Display the following message
""Details The instance has been terminated by a database process because of a fatal internal condition, or a critical background process was killed by the user.""
But oracle is working. select and other this working fine.

  • Listener (and database instance) does not starts up automatically: ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

Hi at all.... I'm a newbie with database oracle.,
    I have the follow problem:
I installed Oracle Database 11g R2 XE on my guest operating system CentOS 6.5.
I have changed  the hostname in my SO CentOS (where is installed oracle 11g R2 XE) after installation was completed successfully.
-) Before and during installation the hostname was localhost.
-) After installation I changed the hostname in VMCentOS
From the moment I changed the hostname, nothing starts up automatically. In particular, the listener and the database instance does not starts up automatically.
When I starts up the listener manually and I try to connect to database instance with SQLPLUS i get this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I think that the problem is due to the changed hostname because I, for testing and debugging purpose, re-installed a new OS CentOS virtual machine, re-installed oracle database 11g and  I have not got that problem. The database instance and the listener starts up automatically!
Can any one tell me if maybe the problem is related to the hostname changed? ... and Why?
P.S.: After changed the hostname I have also modified the listener.ora and the tnsnames.ora by modifying the HOST with the correct hostname.

  • Web Services and database instances

    Hello,
When creating web services, you have to choose which database instance you would like to use. At our company (as I'm sure every other company) we have a test database and a production database. During creation and testing, I would select our TEST database. Great.
Now, I would like to deploy this to our production database, but this web service is hard coded to look at our test instances. I have read a few topics on this and they say to edit the data-sources.xml file at deployment, but there has to be a better way to handle this.
Any information on how to go about handling this better would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt Harris

    Hello Matt,
Actually, modifiing the data-sources.xml (or any equivalent resource file) is the way to do it. You best ought to choose a database/connection neutral name as data-source name and refer to that in data-sources.xml. This file can be modified after deployment, any compiled java-classes where the data-source name is being refered to, can't.

  • ASM and database instance sharing same home. Can i split them?

Hi I am running on 10.2.0.1.0 in a 2 server RAC cluster on linux. ASM and db instance are sharing the same home.
I now need to upgrade my ASM instance and clusterware to 11g, but just want to keep my db at 10g because of some compatability issues ( i will probably still need to upgrade the db to 10.2.0.5.0).
Is there any way i can split my Oracle Home so that i now can upgrade my ASM home and keep my prod DB instance still at 10g?
    Thanks again. John

  • ASM and Databases Instances (best practices)

    Hello
    Platform AIX 5 TL8,
    Oracle 10.2.0.4
    Context RAC ASM (2 nodes)
We have 25 Oracle databases working under the same ASM Instance on our RAC. I think that this is too much and split at least by creating a new ASM instance on another RAC environment should be better.
    Any comment, advises ?

    Hi Den ,
It is not advisable to have 25 databases in single RAC . Instead of databases , you can also think of creating different schemas in same database.

  • Databases and Database instances

    Hi,

  • Agent cannot connect database instance

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my DB agent. it didn't upload XML data correctly, so I coulden't see updated information in first page of EM ( it doesn't show cpu usage, Active Sessions, Listener properties,...).
when I checked the logs, I found that emagent.trc shows this error:
"exceed max amount of upload data: 77 files, 52M, disabling collections
warn : collector : disable collector"
then I run this command from agent home :
    # emctl upload agent
after that all XML files uploaded successfully but raised another problem. when I check database properties in EM, it shows " METRIC COLLECTION ERROR " and database instance is unavailable! I check the emagent.log again, it shows this error :
" thread-4133988016 traget {DB name} is broken, connot compute dynamic properties in time"
and agent doesn't upload XML pending files again!
Now, what should I do? Plz, help me.
( I use Oracle Database 10g on Suse Linux 10.2)
    Edited by: user8630690

    Dear Rajesh,
when I run 'emctl status agent' , it shows everything correct except these two parts :
    last successful upload : none
Total MB of XML files uploades so far : none
and 'number of XML files pending upload' shows that there is some files that haven't uploaded still.
I checked 'Oracle Enterprise manager : b28199 ' document and I found a bug on EM ( Oracle Bug #5179581 ). the suggested solution was :
    1. Click on the Monitoring Configuration link (under the  Related Links section on the plug-in target home page).
    2.Reenter the encrypted properties.
    3.Click OK.
I did it, but I got this error : "target DB is broken, cannot compute dynamic properties in time "
also when I check system processes with "top", it shows that emagent is using cpu 100%.
I don't understand why agent cannot connect instance!
    any advice?

  • How to configure automatical startup of both ASM and Database

I created a ASM and a database that uses this ASM for file storage management. I also edit the /etc/oratab file as followings:
    +ASM:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/asm:Y
    orcl:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1:Y
However, when I reboot the system, both ASM and database instances cannot be started up automatically.
How can I configure automatical startup of both ASM and Database at system reboot?
    Thanks in advance!

    try the following
Create file called startdb.sh in $ORACLE_HOME/bin and put following line into startdb.sh and
change the permission of the file with following command.
    $vi $ORACLE_HOME/bin/startdb.sh
    su - oracle -c 'sh /oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/dbstart'
Please replace /oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/ with your ORACLE_HOME
    $chmod 777 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/startdb.sh
Open /etc/inittab file and append following two lines in /etc/inittab.
    h2:35:once:/etc/init.d/init.cssd start >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
    h3:35:wait:/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/startdb.sh >/tmp/stdb.out 2>&1
If you have h2,h3 in the inittab file please feel free to change it to h4,h5 or whatever is unique, but it has to be unique name
Please replace /oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/ with your ORACLE_HOME.
Reboot machine and check out whether both instances are getting started or not. Please check $ORACLE_HOME/startup.log for more information.

  • Database Instance installation in Distributed System?

    Hi gurus,
When you install a distributed system(SQL Server, AS ABAP), after install the central service instance(SCS), you will perform the database instance installaiton. For this step, can you still run the installation on the SCS host for installing it or you must change to DB host and start the installation at DB host?  My memory is i can do it(install DB instance from the SCS host)  a long time ago, but with new new SR3, i cannot do it. Any body has any idea on it, thanks.
    Peter

so why dont you take central system option.. if you want put both DB and center server on one system...
If I am not replying in the line what your expecting.. please explain detailedly how you want install your system...

  • Multiple Database Instances on Single Server and effect of NLS_LANG

What is the effect of the NLS_LANG registry setting on a Windows server that is to host multiple database instance each created with a different database character set ? The server needs to support data in the following languages : Thai, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Vietnamese and Korean. Selecting the Unicode character set(AL32UTF8) is not an option since the application is not Unicode complaint.
My understanding is that as long as NLS_LANG is set correctly on the client connecting to the particular database instance then the data will be stored correctly - is this correct ?
What should NLS_LANG be set to on the server if there are multiple oracle instances with different character sets ?

My question is not in relation to connecting to the database on the server itself but with regards to client connections. What I need to know is what is the effect of the NLS_LANG setting in the registry on a server that has multiple databases each created with a different character set ?
Say for instance, the server has two databases - one created with the character set ZHS16GBK and the other created with the character set JA16SJIS and NLS_LANG is set to SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK in the registry on the server. Will Japanese data that is inserted into the database that has character set JA16SJIS be stored correctly when it is inserted from a client with NLS_LANG set to JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16SJIS even though NLS_LANG is set to SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK on the server ?

  • Create dev and test instances of Apex on the same server and database

I have a dev and prod instances of Apex on different servers. I want a test instance on the same server as the dev instance.
I am using workspace export/import so all instance workspaces have the same workspace id. The application ID is the same on each instance, in the same workspace. This allows pages to be exported/imported in the differenct instances.
My question is (I am sure it is obvious) can I have more than one instances of Apex on the same database (dev and test) and have each instance have identical Workspace IDs, etc.
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
But you can have more than one database on the same server.
What we do is create a separate database for each APEX versions we are supporting (we still have a customer using APEX 2.0).
All the databases are accessed with the same APACHE config. All you have to do is change the DAD and have a separate dad for each database (i.e. each APEX versions).
    ex : /pls/apex_dev /pls/apex_test
This way , I can run different APEX versions on the same server.

  • Diagnosing an ASM space issue for a primary and a standby database instance with external redundancy.

I've received an alert from Enterprise manager saying "Disk Group DATA_SID requires rebalance because at least one disk
is low on space". My colleague who I would go to with this question is unavailable, so this is a learning opportunity
for me. So far google and Oracle documentation have provided lots of information, but nothing that answers my questions.
I've run the following query on both the primary and standby databases ASM instances:
    select name, disk_number, sector_size,os_mb, total_mb, free_mb, redundancy from v$asm_disk;
On the primary I get 4810M Free space and 18431M Total Space
on the standby I get 1248M Free space and 18431M Total Space -- this is the one that complained via OEM
When I run the following query in the database instance:
    select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 MB from dba_segments;
    I get 3736.75M as a result.
    My questions are:
    1. Will OEM's suggestion to rebalance the disk actually help in this situation since the instance is set up with external redundancy?
    2. If I've got 18G of space and only 3.7G of data, why is OEM complaining?
    3. How can I reclaim what I presume is allocated but unused space in my problem disk group?
    4. How can I determine what extra data the standby has that the primary doesn't since both have the same total space allocation, but different amounts of free space?

Thank you for the reply. That link is very good.
We are an 11.1 version of our database. Linus is OEL 5.6.
So, looking at the portion of the link that refers to 'Add Standby database and Instances to the OCR' - If we use SRVCTL to give the STANDBY the role of ‘physical_standby’ and the start option of ‘mount’, what effect will that have if the STANDBY becomes our PRIMARY?
Would these database settings need to be modified manually with SRVCTL each time?
We understand why the instance is not starting when the node is rebooted, we are looking for a best practice of how this is implemented.
    Thank you.

Now how to list of all the instances and their corresponding databases?

    Hi
    List all Instances
    option 1: Pwershell
    Get-Service | Where-Object {$_.Name -like 'MSSQL$*'}
    Option 2:  query this registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server.....
Option 3: go to regitry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names
    * Here you can find other option like OLTP and not just SQL
    Option 4: RUN -> services.msc
Find all services named "SQL Server". The instance name is in the brakets
Option 5: Open sql server configuration manager -> SQL Server Services
There are more options if you need :-)
