Distributed installation

Hello,
I've got a problem with distributed installation of SAP systems. I've got 3 servers - one is dedicated for Oracle, two for application servers (systems DD1 and DD2). How to distribute services and databases in all these servers?
One of the main goal is that systems will see each other as an active servers (list of servers in transaction SM51).
As I understood I should have one SCS service on the globalhost. For example let's globalhost will be host with database. But how to set parameters in the profile default.pfl? How to set it for several systems? Can the name of instance will be different from other systems (DD1 and DD2) - for example DSC?
The next thing is Oracle. I think I should install two instances of Oracle, one instance for one system. But where to set ORACLE_SID in the Windows system?
So I think I should have one instance of SCS (common), two instances of database (everything can be on the one server); and two instances of CI on the two separate servers. Am I right? But how to set parameters?
I hope, somebody can help me - thank you.
Regards,
Michal

Hello Hari,
thank you for your reply. That's a part of my question. How to set parameters in the default profile? For example in other installation I've got:
SAPSYSTEMNAME = DDS
SAPGLOBALHOST = ddsap
SAP Central Service Instance for J2EE
j2ee/scs/host = ddsap
j2ee/scs/system = 01
j2ee/ms/port = 3901
SAP Central Service Instance for J2EE
login/system_client = 001
SAPDBHOST = ddsap
j2ee/dbtype = ora
j2ee/dbname = DDS
j2ee/dbhost = ddsap
rdisp/bufrefmode = sendoff,exeauto
SAP Messaging Service for ABAP
rdisp/mshost = saperp
rdisp/msserv = sapmsDDS
rdisp/msserv_internal = 3920
SAP Messaging Service for ABAP
SAP Messaging Service for ABAP
SAP Messaging Service for ABAP
SAPTRANSHOST = ddsapbe
But there are parameters which depends on instance (I think so) like:
j2ee/dbtype = ora
j2ee/dbname = DDS
j2ee/dbhost = ddsap
SAPSYSTEMNAME = DDS
and others...
What to do with these parameters? Should I split them into start or instance profile? I don't understand it exactly.
I understood that I should have one SCS instance for several CI instances if I would like to see all the systems in SM51 (?). Can SCS has different <SID> than other CI instances?

Michal

  • How do I install a second Java instance in a Distributed Installation?

    Hello all,
I've just completed the Distributed Installation of a WAS Java stack.  The Central Services and Database are running on one box and the Central Instance (01) is running on antoher box.
I want to add a second instance (02) on another physical box.  Do I run the sapinst for Distributed Installation again, and this time go straight to step 3 and select "Central Instance?"
Since I don't see an option called "Install an additional instance" I am guessing that this is the way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Marc,
My initial installation from sapinst was:
NW2004s SR1 > SAP Systems > MS SQL > Distributed System > Based on AS Java
There are only 3 steps in that selection (SCS, DB, and CI).  There's nothing about a Dialog Instance.
However, Dialog Instance exists as a step in the High Availability System scenario.  So is this what I should use?
But if I use this option from the High Availability selection, will it still work, even though my first box I installed using the Distributed System selection?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mike

  • ECC5 Installation option  Distributed Installation

    Hi
I am installing ECC5 on Windows 2003 with oracle 10g,During installation I have selected distributed installation (ABAP+JAVA).
Please could anyone tell me whether we can install abap+java on single system by selecting distributed installation option in sapinst.
    Thanks
    Sukrut S

    Hi,
whether we can install abap+java on single system by selecting distributed installation option in sapinst.
With Distributed Installation option one can install separate SAP System Components such as Central Instance with Central Services Instance, Database Instance, etc. on separate hosts.
In ABAP+JAVA stack installation scenario, the installation variants will be consists of ABAP installation and the installation of the Java Add-In. That You can install on Single System which is having sufficient resource for the same.
Please refer [these installation guides|https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700002599162004E] to get more detailed information.

  • Hyperion 11.1.2.x Interactive Reporting Distributed Installation

Hi we are trying to perform distributed installation of hyperion interactive reporting v 11.1.2.1 or v 11.1.2.2. But we were unable to split the services. As i came to know that shared services and workspace webapplication can now be only on one server, i wanted to separate IR services on other two servers. Can anyone help me with the steps or any idea about how to split the services. We need it urgent.
    Thanks in advance,
    Harish

Harish, this is very valuable information here that is worth a lot of consulting dollars. :-)
On server 1, just install and configure the Framework and IR
On server 2, just install and configure the IR
On server 3, just install and configure the web component
When I did the above, I ran into the small "defect", which is the APPLICATION ID created on Web does not match the APPLICATION ID on the Framework on server 1 because it's installed separately. Oracle insisted that is not the "best practice", but the solution is to update the APPLICATION ID on server 3 in the repository to match the original APPLICATION ID, and then it works.
I forget the defect number and have to look it up. Or call Oracle Support and they know exactly what to do.
    Good luck.

  • Server Hardening Issues in Distributed Installation on Windows

    Hello,
We are installing SAP CE 7.1 in a Distributed Installation on Windows. SCS and App Server on one HOST and DB (Oracle) on another host. There is a firewall between DMZ and App Server. There is a second firewall between App and DB Server
Our Network Security Team has done server hardening there by blocking all ports. Due to this we are running into following issues:
    1. We installed SCS. But when we want to install DB, it needs the UNC path for SAPMNT. Our network team is saying they will not allow to share any folders between App and DB and we should tell them some other alternative. I want to know if something else is possible here provided this is a Windows Environment
    2. They are asking about all the ports that they will need to open on the firewall for SAP CE to access DB and Web Server in DMZ to access SAP CE
If the experts can provide some inputs in this areas that will be really helpful.

    Shubham

    Hi Shubham,
    >> If you can let me know some details about the NFS Solution, that will be of great help. Our network security team does not understand how SAP Works and from my discussion with them I can say they don't want to. Since its a bit urgent I am looking for some alternatives as the fight to get this done might take more than a month otherwise
This is very bad Anyway, regarding your installation, if you are not planning to install a dialog instance on the DB host and keep your CE installation on the same host, you can turn off the windows sharing safely on the firewall. By doing so, the system will access its shares internally and don't need to share SAPMNT and SAPLOC. Under this circumstance, you don't need to run on a NFS server or a same solution like this. By the way, what about your object transport strategy? Are you planning to use CTS+?
    >> For the firewall ports, My understanding is that in the Firewall between Web Server in DMZ and App Server, I need to open port 50000. Similarly in the firewall between App Server and DB Server, I need to open port 1521 for my application to access DB. But I dont know if CE will also speak to DB on port 1521 or some other port. Are there any other ports that need to be opened?
It is enough to open Oracle listener port (1521 standard port) and J2EE server HTTP port (50000) in order to run on CE, because of the system is standing on pure Java stack. What about the telnet access to the J2EE server? If you need to telnet support, you should 50008, also. But, you know that if you are planning to add an dialog instance you need to open more ports such as message server, P4, etc...

  • SAP Distributed Installation on Cluster using HP Serviceguard

    Hi,
I am planning to install SCM 2007 system on cluster using HP serviceguard. The OS is RHEL 5 and database is Oracle. For cluster HP serviceguard will be used.
I want to perform Distributed installation i.e CI on node1 and Database instance on node2. If either fails it will switch to other node.
Do i need to use High Availablity option in sapinst for Distributed installation or we can just specify the virtual hostname of each node using the parameter SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME while running sapinst and perform normal distributed installation.
Incase i have to use HA, can someone guide me through the steps on how to do the same.
    Regards,
    Chintan

    Someone pls suggest.
    Regards,
    Chintan

  • Hyperion distributed installation question

    Gurus,
We are upgrading from 9.3.3 to 11.1.2.1(Distributed environment) and have gone through the 11.1.2.1 start here , installation and configuration guides.
    Existing environment:
    Machine1(Windows 2003 R2): Hyperion Shared Services, EAS webapp,Essbase Provider Services(WebApp)
Machine2(Windows 2003 R2): Workspace, BI+ Services, BI+ UIServices, BI+ Client, Web Analysis, Financial Reporting, Interactive Reporting
    Machine3(Windows 2003 R2): Planning Application/Web Server,EPMA web
    Machine4(Windows 2003 R2): HFM Web/App , FDQM Web/App
    Machine5(Linux 32bit) : Essbase Server
    Machine6(Linux 64bit) : Oracle RDBMS
On Upgraded env plan to move to Windows 2008 and have:
    Machine1(Windows 2008 x64): Foundation Services (Hyperion Shared Services,Workspace web,EAS webapp, EPS webapp)
    Machine2(Windows 2008 x64): Web Analysis,Reporting&Analysis Framework,Financial Reporting,Interactive Reporting,
    Machine3(Windows 2008 x64): Financial Management App/Web, FDQM Web/App
    Machine4(Windows 2008 x64): Planning Application/Web Server,EPMA
    Machine5(Linux 64bit) : Essbase Server
    Machine6(Linux 64bit) : Oracle RDBMS
From Page 94 "Oracle® Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide RELEASE 11.1.2.1 Updated: June 2011" states:
    a)
On the machine on which you plan to administer the WebLogic Server, you must install all
Web applications for all applications you plan to deploy on any machine in the environment.
(The WebLogic Administration Server is installed and deployed on the Foundation Services
    machine.)
    b)
On each remote machine in a distributed environment, install the Web applications you
plan to run on that machine and then use EPM System Configurator to deploy the Web
applications automatically, or manually deploy the Web applications.
Note that EPM System Installer installs WebLogic Server on each machine (for Web tier and
Service tier components) in a distributed environment.
    c)
If you are deploying Web applications on a machine other than the WebLogic
Administration Server machine, WebLogic Administration Server must be running
    Question:
    ======
    1) After installing components on respective machines per guideline a),b) above do we have to deploy webapps from products related to machine2,3,4 on machine1(foundation services). If everything gets deployed on Shared service machine -- we are concerned about the system resources that will be needed to run all the webapps.
    2) Assuming we do not want to use a cluster - do we still have to depoy to admin server? Please clarify.
    Best Regards

    When you say:
Machine B Install Planning web application server
Then go back to Machine A and install Planning web application server
    >>
For this I understand from EPM Installer options need to select option of install components individually or by tier and choose all relevant components for plannnig
Could you please clarify why this step is required - meaning what is purpose behind this - It would create software directory and install files right.
We have already done this on above machine B earlier right? So duplicating the installation piece?
Are we doing this in order to setup weblogic cluster like active passive config or just for convenicen to deploy?
Deploy and Configure Planning web application server on Machine B and deploy to an exisiting domain on Machine A
So this part is just launching EPM configurator and do tasks related to Plannnig on machine B and when choosing the domain select option to use already created on machine A right? Also when I do the installation for Planning on Machine B - wont it also install admin server on same machine which I can use to deploy locally? Please clarify.

  • How to run Distributed installations

    Hi,
I ran the sapinst on Cluster node1 and selected Java System>Distributed install > and selected the "Central Instance Host preparation" and it is done successfully.
Then i installed DB instance on other Cluster node2. Now i'm trying to install "Central and SCS instances" on the node1 again and but the install wizard did not prompt me for the selection and it continues with same "Central instance host preparation". Could you let me know how to
achieve this install on a cluster with distributed install.
    Thanks,
    Torpedo

    Hi Fresh,
In a distributed environment you need to install SAP gateway instance on the DB host.
Then in the RFC destination SAPXPG_DBDEST_SAPSRVCEPDBLAN maintain the gateway host and gateway service.
Post this db13 should work fine.
    Hope this helps.

  • MII 12.1 Distributed Installation

    Hi
We are evaluating options for installing MII 12.1 (currently in ramp-up)  in a distributed manner.
We have SQL Server setup in one site. We would be installing MII instances on multiple sites. But would like to know in terms of Netweaver Database, if we can create multiple netweaver db instances on the same SQL Server one for each site and use them with distributed Netweaver CE 7.1 Application servers on each site.
In essence, all Netweaver App servers across sites would connect to different SQL Server instances that arel hosted on the same physical host at 1 site.
Would this result in serious performance degradations because the SQL Server is farther away from the Netweaver Application server? Will the application make a call to the netweaver database for each click since the code is residing on the Netweaver database or does it cache enough to avoid the trips?
    Please let me know
    Thanks
    Deepa

    Deepa,
Consider all of the file I/O that your current server performs with query template loads, display template loads, and business logic service loads, not to mention the user/role and security related information files which are largely stored in memory upon startup.  Now transition all of the file I/O to JDBC calls in and out of a database for this same effort, and you'll see why Mike indicated some concerns for degredation, especially for longer and longer distances between the NetWeaver/MII server and your single SQLServer instance.  Depending upon the volume of users and their associated activity this can be quite a bit of traffic going across the wire between NetWeaver and SQLServer.
If you are looking to avoid some of the SQL licensing costs at the plant level, why not just consider using the free MaxDB underneath NetWeaver?  In the realm according to MII, it doesn't even know the difference because the NetWeaver layer provides abstraction from both DB and O/S.
    Regards,
    Jeremy

    Hi Praveen,
It looks to be more permission issue rather than space issue. Ensure the file system where you copied the DVD has full permission.
Check the installation logs for more details on which other file system needs full permission and work accordingly.

  • AIX6.1+HACMP+DB2 9.1+SAP ECC 6.0 High Availablity Installation

    Dear All,
This is to request you that anyone having a sure shot Installation guide /Solution to Install SAP in High Availablity using following platform.
    1. AIX 6.1
    2. DB2 9.1
    3. HACMP
    4. ECC 6.0 SR 2
Note: Not Failover by scripting. High Availablity like Microsoft MCSC. Complete installation on Virtual host, IP and Shared File system/stirage.
    Please....................................................
    Regards
    Dharmendra

Installing SAP NW07 SR3 with DB2 on AIX HACMP
    Scenario:-
DB will run on Node A
SAP CI will run on Node B
If node A fails DB will failover to Node B
If node B fails CI will failover to Node A
Shared SAP and DB filesystem are in SAN
    Filesystems will failover accordingly
    Requirements:-
    SAP NW07 SR3 DVDs
    AIX Node A
    AIX Node B
HACMP supports node failures. We are not using HACMP to probe Application (SAP/DB) failures. i.e. if SAP or DB process crashes HACMP will not failover the resource groups.
/etc/hosts should have IPs of both nodes
    Assumptions:-
    PRD = PRD
    Node A hostname: dbserver
    Node B hostname: ciserver
    Shared filesystems
These filesystems can be moved/ failed over (unmounted /mounted) from one node to another.
    /usr/sap/PRD
    /sapmnt/PRD
    /db2/PRD
    /db2/db2prd
    /db2/PRD/sapdata1
    /db2/PRD/sapdata2
    /db2/PRD/sapdata3
    /db2/PRD/sapdata4
    /db2/PRD/log_dir
    /db2/PRD/db2dump
Users and Groups will be created by SAPINST.
Please make a note of the UIDs as we have to use the same UIDs and GIDs on other node as well.
User Home directory:- For prdadm please use a home directory on shared disk
    For e.g. /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm
Use Distributed Installation option in SAPINST
    Installation steps:-
    Node A:
    Mount SAP filesystems
    Mount DB2 filesystems
Check /etc/hosts that IP of both nodes are available
Ping both nodes and check the IP address
Check output of command ifconfig u2013a and confirm that both IPs are available
    Start SAPINST with SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME option.
    For e.f.    ./sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=dbserver
Step 1: Global host preparation (this should be easy to finish)
    Step 2: Database instance installation
During this step note down UIDs and GIDs created by sapinst.
During this step please choose /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm as user home for prdadm user.
With SR3 DVDs db2 software will be installed in /db2/PRD/db2_software
Step 3: Install SAP Central Instance with SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=ciserver
Stop / Start SAP -> Login and confirm SAP instance is running fine.
    Shutdown SAP and DB2
Add entries in .rhosts in home directory on user prdadm and db2prd
    For example in /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm/.rhots
<IP Address of Node A> prdadm
<IP Address of Node B> prdadm
    <all possible IP address> prdadm
    Similarly for /db2/db2prd/.rhosts
    <IP Address of Node A> db2prd
    <IP Address of Node B> db2prd
    <all possible IP address> db2prd
    Node B:
Move SAP resources from Node A to B (i.e. SAP filesystems should become available on Node B)
DO NOT MODE DB RESOURCES, Let it stay on Node A alone.
Create /db2/PRD and /db2/db2prd directories (this should have some free space, 10 GB is good to go)
Start SAP installation under Distributed installation option
    Step 1:  Global host preparation
Temporarily change /etc/hosts and make the IP of dbserver same as ciserver.
dbserver line should be written above ciserver line
    i.e. u2018ping dbserveru2019 and u2018ping ciserveru2019 should return same IP address on Node B (NOT NODE A)
Step 2: Database instance installation with option SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=dbserver
During this installation, make sure UIDs and GIDs are given same as in Node A.
You can confirm the UIDs from /etc/passwd   and GID from /etc/group
Also, make sure you specify user home for prdadm as /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm
Once installation starts ABAP Load and one or two jobs are completed, please cancel the installation.
    as db2prd
    db2stop force
    db2start
    db2 connect to PRD
It should be successful. This confirms the DB2 is setup properly.
    db2stop terminate
    db2stop force
    rm u2013r /db2/db2prd/*
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata1
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata2
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata3
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata4
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/log_dir
    rm u2013r /db2/PRD/db2dump
Retain these directories so that you can mount the shared filesystems from Node A to Node B during failover.
Change and correct IP address in /etc/hosts of host dbserver, which we changed temporarily earlier.
Failover DB resources to Node B
Check if all DB2 filesystems are correctly available.
On Node A, check and double confirm that there are no files/directories under /db2 and its subdirectories. i.e. all filesystems have come to Node B.
In our case there was one filesystem /db2/PRD/db2prd which did not come to node B and we had to struggle a lot to find the same.

  • HA Installation of ERP EHP4 on AIX and DB2

    Dear All,
I have to do a HA installation of ERP EHP4 system on AIX and DB2. I have followed the standard inst.guide from SAP but I want more information. Can anyone help me in understanding how to go about installing HA in detail. I would be very grateful if anyone can provide me a guide/document of what and how they have done. Can you pls explain me the steps.
    I also have few questions
    1. Shall i do a Central installation or distributed installation ( meaning CI, ASCS and DB in one server failover to other; CI,ASCS on one server and DB running on different server which in case of failure will move to other server)
    2. I know that OS team will do the cluster configuration but is there any other software to be bought for an automatic switchover in case of failures?
    3. Mainly, as a BASIS consultant what is our role in HA configuration?  What file systems should be defined and nfs mounted?
Request you to take time and answer. Thanks in Advance.
Lastly, i hope this is the right forum. If not , please let me know.

I think you did not get basic of HA installation. Its neither central nor distributed installation. You need to install CI and Dialog Instance locally on 2 nodes. DB and ASCS instance on the disk that will move across 2 nodes.

OS team will do file system config so that file system having ASCS and DB should move across 2 nodes. And rest of the file system should be local.
After installation making cluster movement automatic both OS and SAP Basis guy have to work together.

I would say primary role in HA installation is of Basis guy. Because he is the person who will decide what approach will you take to install HA either active-active or active-passive. Its you on whom requirement OS guy will work.
    Thanks
