Distributed System and Central System

Dear Gurus ,
We now started the implementation of ECC 6.0 , I have one doubt , In installation master guide there are two kinds of installation mentioned . Distributed System and Central System . Kindly let me know what is the difference between these two .
Regards
Selvan

Hi,
Distributed System- When you have your DB and CI hosted on two (physically/Logically) seperate hosts.
Central System - When you have your DB and CI hosted on same host

  • Homogeneous Copy  / Converting Distributed System as Central System.

    CURRENT SAP LANDSCAPE.
SAP Production System is installed as a Distributed System:
SAP Application Host:_ AIX 5.2 - SAP Application (Central Instance - Central Services) based on NW 7.0 - ERP 2005 SR1.
Database Host: AIX 5.2 - Oracle 10G ver 10.2.0.2.0. - Database remains in SAN (Storage Area Network)
    ESCENARIO ONE:
COPYING ONLY CENTRAL INSTANCE AND CENTRAL SERVICES TO A NEW HOST.
Purpose: I want to copy only SAP Application (Central Instance an Central Services)  to a new host and connect to my current Database Host .
According System Copy Guide (*) the concept of System Copy includes installation of SAP instances again using copy of source system database,  likewise in this Guide I found the following restrictions:
    Restrictions.
    1.     Copying the database only is not supported!
    2.     Copying the central instance only is not supported!
The migration controller deletes all dialog instances in the database, so the
system is not complete any longer.
    3.     Reinstalling the central instance without the database is not supported!
The migration controller deletes all dialog instances in the database, so the
          system is not complete anylonger
    Questions:
    1.     Using Homogeneus Copy (Abap+Java) can I copy ONLY SAP Instances (Central Instance and Central Services) to a new host without copying Database ?
    2.     Which is the best procedure to follow for this purpose?
(*) System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 2004s SR1 ABAP+Java
    Document version: 1.1 ‒ 08/18/2006
    ESCENARIO TWO:
CONVERTING DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM IN CENTRAL SYSTEM
Purpose: Convert our SAP Distributed System (two hosts) in SAP Central System (one host)
    Questions:
    1.     Using Homogeneous Copy (Abap+Java) can I copy SAP Instances (Central Instance, Central Services)  and Oracle Database Instance  to only one host (Central System) ?
    2.     Is there any specific experience or procedure for this special case?
    3. Can I restore Database Full Offline Backup and SAP Application Offline backup  in the new server as an alternative ?
    Thanks.

Use the distributed system option, as that is what applies to your target system.  It is all explained clearly in the system copy guide, which you should definitely reference as appropriate for your software version:  http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Installation & Upgrade Guides -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver 7.4 (or version as appropriate) -> Installation -> 2 - Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems -> System Copy: Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 or Higher -> Windows: ABAP (or system variant as appropriate).  In the guide, choose the Database-Specific System Copy:  MS SQL Server-Specific Procedure.  Also, be sure to check out the chapter on Copying the Database Only - Refresh.  Basically, it says to run SWPM on the target database instance, choosing <Product> -> <Database> -> System Copy -> Target System -> <System_Variant> -> Based on AS ABAP (or other as appropriate) -> Database Refresh or Move.

  • Going from centralized system to distributed system

    Hello,
We would like to go from a centralized system and to a distributed system, having the database and the central instance on different servers. Could you please tell me if there is a procedure to do this or do we have to reinstall ?
    Best regards,
    Arijana

normaly it is easier to move the DB to another host.
Moving the CI you will need a new License Key, you will have to reconfigure all SAP Clients (SAP GUI) using the new hostname.
On the other hand before splitting the CI and database you should add additional Application servers (dialog instances).
Normaly you will not be able to utilize all resources of the database host, with just one application server installed on a separate machine. (valid for equal hardware configurations of both machines).

  • RT Target Resources and Distributed System Manager

    Hello all,
Does anyone know of some potential reasons why an RT target might not publish its CPU and memory usage?  This particular target is a cFP-2200 running a complete installation of FieldPoint 6.0.2 (RT 8.6) including System State Publisher.  For some reason I can't view the memory usage on this target and I haven't been able to figure it out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    Hello Hillman,
Thanks for your reply!  I sort of
figured that this one would go by the wayside and not be answered.
Actually, I'm not using RTSM; I'm using the Distributed System Manager
    - It's a relatively new tool that ships with LabVIEW RT 8.6.  In my
humble opinion, I find it to be much superior to the RT System Manager
in its own way.  The only downside, really, is that you can't log with
it natively, but there are ways around that.
    You've
got some great suggestions.  I definitely was using the correct IP, I
could target it with LabVIEW because I loaded my application on there,
and I didn't get any boot errors when I connected.  You're absolutely
right, too, that the CPU is always maxed out at 100%.
    I
guess I was perplexed because, one moment I could see the resources in
DSM (is that acronym valid yet?), and after I reloaded the software
from scratch, I could see lots of variables on the target, but for some
reason the system resources weren't showing up.  After no one jumped on
the question, I went back to tweaking various settings and realized
that I hadn't rebooted after enabling VI Server.  In fact, I didn't
think that VI Server would be the issue and hadn't really thought of
checking there.  My reasoning followed that, if all of the other
variables showed up, surely it wouldn't be VI Server, but that fixed it.
I definitely appreciate your getting back to me, though.
    Cheers,
     Jim

  • How to use DB13 on a distribute system

    HI,
We install SAP R3 enterprise 4.7 SR1 as distribute system on 3 different windows 2003 server, Central Instance , Database Instance and Dialog Instance. As I understood, we need to use sm59 to setup the RFC destination so that DB13 can work well.
So I manually create a RFC destination SAPXPG_DBDEST_DB01 and only test successfully after I install a new dialog instance on database server and connect to this dialog instance. I tried to create SAPOSCOL_DB01 with the folow parame
    Connect Type : T
    Activition Type: Explicit
    Program: saposcol
target: db01  ( db01 could be resolved to IP address and ping well)
    but the test is unsucessful.
when I run db13 to backup, it looks the brbackup run on the central instance not on the database instance.
Any one can help to handle this problem or give me some notes about a distribute system RFC setting?
Your kindly help will be appreciated!
    Regards

there is not any relation of saposcol program to database backup. as per my understanding, this program is used to collect the data, for database backup from DB13 program sapxpg should be called, so check the SM59 that the connection of this program is working properly or not.

  • Installation ERP 6.0 EHP4 on a distributed system

    Hello,
We are in process of the ERP 6.0 EHP4 installation (abap only) on a distributed system. The database is already installed (MaxDB). After that we installed the ERP6 EHP4 from the DVD ERP 6.0 EHP4 READY. After the installation was successfully done, we found out that the EHP4 was not installed, just the ERP 6.0 (600). So why the sapinst did not ask us where he can find the EHP4 packages?
If we tried the installation with sapinst as a central system (host and db on same server) it asks about the installation export of the EHP4. So thats a little bit strange..
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
When you install ERP 6.0 EHP4 system then first EHP4 Ready system will be installed in which all netweaver base components like SAP_Basis, SAP_ABA etc. will be on 7.01 release and all ERP components will be on 600 release. And this system is called as EHP4 Ready system. After that you have to upgrade your EHP4 Ready System to EHP4 level.
This restriction applies because when you will upgrade EHP4 Ready system then you can upgrade only those Technical Usage which you want to use on the system instead of upgrading all components. So, When you will upgrade your EHP4 Ready system , then you have to download packages & stack xml file from MOPZ in solution manager. In MOPZ you have to select Central Components which is mandatory and it contains SAP_APPL and EA-APPL package, once it will be upgraded to 604 level then your system will be EHP4 system. If apart from Central Application technical usage, you want to install any other Technical usage then you can select them in MOPZ and can upgrade in one go.
For more information, check Technical FAQ and How to install eHP4 document on http://service.sap.com/erp-ehp.
    Thanks

  • Database Instance installation in Distributed System?

    Hi gurus,
When you install a distributed system(SQL Server, AS ABAP), after install the central service instance(SCS), you will perform the database instance installaiton. For this step, can you still run the installation on the SCS host for installing it or you must change to DB host and start the installation at DB host?  My memory is i can do it(install DB instance from the SCS host)  a long time ago, but with new new SR3, i cannot do it. Any body has any idea on it, thanks.
    Peter

so why dont you take central system option.. if you want put both DB and center server on one system...
If I am not replying in the line what your expecting.. please explain detailedly how you want install your system...

  • Adapter Engine has wrong hostname after HSC with Distributed System

I have an interesting situation where I have performed a homogeneous system copy from a standard system to a distributed system.  The only that really has changed is the database server name.  I performed the global host install, the database instance import, and then the Primary Application Server install.
The strange error is that the adapter engine after the install shows the hostname of the database server.  The SLD CIM Instance data shows the hostname of the database server as an adapter engine.  The correct hostname for the adapter engine is there also, but is not updated by the SLD Data Supplier/or RZ70 update.
The SLD entries for the ABAP and Java stacks are never updated after this copy.
I'm pretty much stumped on this one.  I think I picked the correct options for the install.
