Distributing Single Edition publication privately

Hi all, thanks for looking in.
We are a very small design company (2 of us) and we are starting to get into digital publications. One of our clients is a medical company and want to use digital publications as sales aids for their sales team.
The problem we have is the publications need to be private as they contain medical data etc. We are not in a position to be able to pay for a enterprise edition of dps which will enable us to 'distribute behind a corporate firewall'.
The only way we can afford to do this is to pay for a single edition per sales aid and charge the client accordingly.
Can we produce and distribute a single edition publication privately? or put some kind of protection on it so it would be available to everyone but only people with say a password or code can install it?
Also, the client has recently moved all it's sales force over to iPads and they have a Mobile Device Management System in place called Mobile Iron, is this something that can be used to distribute a single edition publication privately? If so how would we go about this.
Thanks in advance for your help.
David

Bob,
Couldn't David use the Single Edition (or Professional) to share the branded app privately using ad hoc distribution (for up to 100 devices, with a standard iOS developer account)? I've had these same questions recently and it seems this is the only approach without investment in the Enterprise solution (or PressRun, Aquafadas, etc)? I'm asking this because I'm still trying to understand if this is a realistic approach (for up to 100 devices).
The documentation said that this type of distribution is "for testing purposes". I'm not sure what exactly this means and if this is enforced or monitored.

Thanks.

    Change folio properties
After you create a folio, you can use the Folio Properties dialog box to specify a publication name, change the size, and choose cover preview images. Some folio properties such as orientation, image format, and folio size cannot be edited in the Folio Properties dialog box. If necessary, create a new folio with the appropriate settings.
In the Folio Builder panel, select a folio.
when i click on properties in inDesign, I DO NOT SEE this:
I just have a "Properties" link, and the popup only gives ooportunity to change the name, and upload horizontal and vertical covers

  • Europe, netherlands, amsterdam...when and how much for single edition

    Europe, netherlands, amsterdam...
1: what does it cost to make a single edition using DPS out of Amsterdam when I have a creative cloud membership.
2: from what date,  can I make a single edition from out of europe?

    Hi Anne,
The Digital Publishing Suite Single Edition has not been added to Creative Cloud yet, but it is coming soon (not able to provide any kind of specific date). I don't know of any fees for creating a single edition publication, but you might want to post the question on the DPS forum for confirmation.

  • Updating a Single Edition app already on the App Store

If a DPS Single Edition app is submitted to the Apple app store, can it be updated every couple months with new content or will Apple restrict that? For those users who have already downloaded the DPS Single Edition app, will those users automatically get a notification that a new version of the app is available at the App store? Basically, I have a client who woud like to create a Single Edition publication app with DPS but they want to roll it out with one article at a time and continue to add to the same app/folio. The folio/app may get some additional changes to the cover and TOC. Is that all possible? and will users be notified when the new app is available?

Thanks. There's a lot of work that goes into one of these things. It's
not something you can just throw together.
Apple reviews them pretty carefully. It is always best to spell out that
you cannot be held responsible for a rejection of an app by Apple, but
at the same time, you need to educate yourself and your client on what
    is and isn't acceptable.
There is a gray area and I've seen some pretty nice apps rejected, but
often they will be approved on an appeal.

  • Private publication from Single Edition?

    Hello.
I'm developing a couple of brochures for a company that wants them to be downloaded to their iPads sellers, but they don't want them to be visible for everyone. May I use Single Editions to publish the brochures and make them private, so only users with a password may download them?
    Thanks, regards!

With DPS single edition, private/internal distribution of your app is not possible. You need DPS Enterprise to be able to do that.
Anyone can create and share folios with anyone regradless of whether you own DPS or not. But the sahring feature is meant for content proofing and approval from colleagues/Boss/anyone (pre-production proofing workflow) and may not cater your private distribution needs.
Wnat to know more about folio sharing, go here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS9293e1fb3b977c5c7b1f65ad12f28224932-7f ff.html#WS9293e1fb3b977c5c7b1f65ad12f28224932-7ffb

  • Can you self-distribute a single edition folio app?

Currently I am using the Adobe Content viewer to distribute folio's for a couple of clients.  One client would like single edition folio apps created, but doesn't like the idea of them being in iTunes.  Is it possible to self-distribute (publish) a single edition folio app outside of iTunes?  Much the same way you can already create any type of iPad app and create an installable package without having to go through iTunes...
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Greg B

The only way to do so is to create a developer version of the app but it
will expire and will be limited to 100 UDIDs.
In short, this isn't going to happen without enterprise level accounts
with Apple and Adobe and is still subject to licensing restrictions set
forth by Apple for app distribution.

  • Single edition apps can only be Private?

    Hello
I have the teacher/Education account of CC, and when I try to publish my folios with Folio Producer, I cant set them to "Public". Only Private is possible. Are there any not documented limitations for the Educational account or am I missing something? Pleas help me?

When building a Single Edition application you don't use Folio Producer. Instead from within InDesign select the Create App item from the Folio Builder panel flyout menu.
I suggest taking a look at our Step by Step guide for Single Edition: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ppcompdoc/Step_by_step_guide_to_dps_se.pdf.

  • Why "Single Edition-App" and not "Professional"?

    Hi, I've got 2 questions :
    1. We've  changed our Single Edition Account (two weeks ago) to a Professional Account.
Written in the DPS App Builder-panel is unfortunately still "Single-Edition-App."
How can I change this or is that normal?
    2. How can I make an App for the iPad AND for iPhone to distribute on the App Store?
Is that possible with my professional Account? And what's the correct App-Type for that? I only can choose "Multi Folios", "Multi Folios with iTunes Abonnement", "Adobe Content Viewer".
    Thanks for help

    Hi Phillipe,
you need to rebuild your app using DPS App Builder if you want to change the app type, it does not automatically change when you switch to Professional Edition. You will then also have to resubmit it to the App Store.
Professional Edition allows you to create an app for iPad and iPhone. The app type depends on the kind of content you are offering with your app. Multiple versions of the same folio aimed at different devices are called renditions. You would need to choose "Multi Folio" for that. If you want to enable your readers to subscribe to your publication you would need to select "Multi Folio with iTunes Subscription".
Your second question cannot be answered comprehensively in a forum post as it involves just too many things. There is a lot of documentation available on the DPS help pages on the topics of the different app types, app creation and app distribution. Maybe start with this article Understanding different types of DPS apps and take it from there. There is also a Publishing Companion Guide available to download from the the DPS Dashboard which I can recommend.

  • DPS Single Edition - what if Apple rejects your app?

If you pay for a single edition license and Apple rejects your application after viewing, where do you stand with Adobe?
Are you able to make the changes needed to the app, then rebuild and re-submit?
Is it like a professional, or enterprise edition where you can amend and fine tune your app (through builds and rebuilds) until it is perfect within Viewer Builder - but you're just limited to the one viewer app?
    Thanks

    Thanks Bob.
I haven't got any problems, this is just hypothetical at the moment.
Is there a limit to the amount of changes I want to make? Say I have built my folio, zipped it and placed it in the app in viewer builder. I see a couple of minor errors, so need to re-zip the folio and rebuild the viewer. Then I want to add another section (which requires another rebuild). Is that all doable? I'm just talking from real-life experience of digital publication development - I don't think our first viewer build has ever been the one we've pushed to Apple.

  • No Response when submitting build for single-edition custom viewer app

I want to build a custom viewer app for a single-edition folio for the iPad using the Viewer Builder. I go through all the steps described by the help articles and videos, such as generating and downloading mobileprovision files and creating asset files. However, at the final step, where the viewer builder displays the text: 'Once you hit the Submit Build' button, your build will be queued. Click 'Finish' to return to your list of publications. I click 'Submit Build', and I get the progress bar which says 'Submitting to the build queue: This popup will disapper once complete'. Once the popup disappears, I click, 'Finish', and I am returned to the Manage screen. I can see a list item for each time I attempted to submit a build, but the Builds and Build Details Columns are blank, showing no builds. However, there is a link in the App Status Column to 'Activate' by entering a serial number. Is it necessary for me to enter my serial number before I can see the results of my build, or is there something wrong with the build process?

Yes, and you need to PAY for that serial number. Single Edition apps are $395 each.

  • Three questions about a single-folio publication

We are finishing our first publication with DPS.
We have a Adobe DPS Professional Edition, Annual version.
1- I have been planning to launch the App in iPad and Android for free and in three days to put the price at $9,00. Is that possible?
2 - How much time needs Apple to approve our appliction?
3- I have read that you can't publish a single folio app in Android. Why?
    What is the option

On android a .apk app is limited to 50 mb. Additional Content up to 4GB can
be loaded by the app on its first start.
This need a change in workflow for the android version on the viewer side.
And it may be political, too.

  • Publishing Features Q - Creative Cloud single edition

    Hi there.
Just wondered if someone could clarify a these Q's on publishing features for a single folio app using the CC single edition.
    1. The number of updates I can make to my app are unlimited? I've read somewhere on this forum there was a limit to 3.
    2. When updating, does the 'client' device get a pushed notification of an update.
    3. Will my App appear in the 'app store' rather than the 'news stand'.
    4. Can I publish my app privately? The client have another app they'd like available to their sales team only as it has includes sensitive pricing info.
    Many thanks,
    Tony Mead

    1. The number of updates I can make to my app are unlimited? I've read somewhere on this forum there was a limit to 3.
Unlimited updates as far as DPS is concerned, however Apple may reject too many updates (more than 5-6 updates in a year) for the app unless you give reasons like bug fixes etc.
    2. When updating, does the 'client' device get a pushed notification of an update.
No, This feature is not available with DPS CCM.
    3. Will my App appear in the 'app store' rather than the 'news stand'.
    Yes.
    4. Can I publish my app privately? The client have another app they'd like available to their sales team only as it has includes sensitive pricing info.
No, it's a DPS Enterprise only feature. You can however add upto 100 UDID's in your Mobile Provisioning files and use it on those devices.

  • Clarity on Single Edition vs. Professional Edition

    Hi Guys,
    I am just trying to make the decision on whether I need the professional edition or whether it’s not worth it. I was hoping some of the regulars here might be able to answer a few questions;
What happens if you buy 10,000 folios and you sell 10,001… does it automatically top up, do you get billed later, or is that extra person blocked from downloading the app until you buy more folios?
What happens with your unused folios – do they simply become available to the next product you release? What happens if you cancel your subscription, or never sell more than 10,000? Are they refunded?
If you have the Professional Edition, can you choose to still release apps as a single edition (as in free of the folio download costs) when required?
Is there any way you can release an App through the single edition service, whereby it has an expiry date. For example, if the user downloads the app and in three months you want to make it so they can’t open the app again (they have to buy a new issue, for example) can you do that?
I currently have a Creative Cloud membership, which comes with the Single Edition DPS. If I roll over into the Professional Edition, does it replace my existing package? So I have Creative Cloud plus the PE features?
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'll answer the ones I know for sure off the top of my head.
    2. Unused folios are available for any issues and publications you produce under your professional edition account. You can have multiple titles available, for example, and they all share the same bundle of folio downloads. If you cancel your subscription they are gone and are not refunded.
    3. Yes.
    4. No.
    5. They are separate. Professional Edition *only* gives you DPS publication capabilities. You still need to maintain your Creative Cloud subscription if you want access to Adobe software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
