Distribution list migration

I have successfully migrated all subscribers from unity 7 to unity 8.6 but I am trying to migrate the distribution lists now and don't see where I can do that.  I know the docs say to use cobras but I don't see any option to back up the lists, just the subscribers.  Any info would be greatly appreciated on helping with this matter.
Thanks

  • UC 7 - unable to delete distribution list

I've got this distribution list migrated over, which do not have any members, but am unable to delete it, and getting error this object is currently in use.
I enabled dependency records but unable to see anywhere I can access this functionality. How do I go about this one? please help.

I suspect if there is a dependency on it then deleting the DL from the CLI is not going to work either - the SA is essentially doing the same operation and the stored proc is likely returning that error.  You might get lucky and it's the SA doing a seperate/unnecessary check but I'm guessing that's not going to be the case and you'll see a similiar error in the CLI as you do in the SA.
Another approach is to see if you can find the dependency reference on the DL - it could be a bug (i.e. a bogus reference) or it could be a handler referencing it as a message recipient and/or a name lookup handler referencing it as a scope etc...
The easiest way to find references to an object is to use the CUDLI data viewer tool:
    http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/CxN/CUDLI/CUDLI.html
Make sure to have it show all data instead of limiting to the top 100 rows as it does by default (a red flashing text will tell you this when you fire it up).  Find the ObjectID of the DL you're trying to delete and then use the "Find value in db tables" option under the File Menu.  Paste in the object ID and let it rip - it'll look in every column of every row of every table in the database looking for references to that objectId - if there's any in there, it'll take you to them.  If there are valid references to the list keeping it from being deleted, you'll find them.

  • PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group

Have a user that has PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp and  migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group/Distro List group imports, just will not show addresses in the distro or it removes them.
I opened the same PAB and distro on a xp computer with office 2003 after user complained none of the contacts in the distro where in there.. and using the same PAB on both computers the group contacts where populated... but do not appear on outlook 2010
    win7.
The Distro/Group is a personally created distro by the user, not an exchange server stored distro/group so its not a exchange issue.
Ive searched the net .. cant find anything on the issue.. don't know if its a MS bug, or something is switched on or off, Registry issue ??
Need a real answer to this , and can not use a third party app, must be resolved with existing apps, very strict enviroment
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi everyone,
I have the exact same problem. When I import a 2003 PAB into Outlook 2010, There are no contacts displayed. The address book itself seems to be imported (I can select the address book when creating an e-mail), but again, no contact exist in the imported
    PAB.

  • Unable to manage Distribution list membership since moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

    Hi,
We have recently started migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  One of our customers used to be able to manage a security group through the outlook address book.  This is a mail enabled security group where the customer is on
the "Managed by" entry and the "Manager can update membership list" is ticked.
Now that the users mailbox has been migrated to Exchange 2010, if they try and modify the membership using outlook by finding the group in the address book they get the error "changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. you do not have
sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object".
I have now added a test account to the managed by entry on the security group to test the problem.
    I have followed the article
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/3408844.aspx that explains how to use the EMS to give users the right to amend groups that users own.  I did not run the script but entered the following commands:
    New-ManagementRole -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -parent MyDistributionGroups
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\New-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\Remove-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
New-ManagementRoleAssignment -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test-Default Role Assignment Pol” -role “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -policy “Default Role Assignment Policy”
All appears to have worked ok and I have seen no errors while doing this
If I use OWA and then use the ECP, I can now see the "Public groups I own" but no groups are listed.
I have created some new distribution groups in Exchange 2010 (One dist list and one security group) to test and added the test account as an owner of both and a member of both.  I still cannot amend the membership using outlook address book and the
ECP still shows no groups under "Public Groups I own"
I have seen a number of articles on how to do this and it looks like I am doing everything right and it has worked for plenty of other people.  I just don't know what's going wrong.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help.
    Matt

    Hi Rajith,
I deleted the outlook profile and recreated it but this did not work.
I have now created a brand new mailbox on Exchange 2010 added this to the "managed by" section of the Exchange 2010 dist lists and I still get the error.  I also do not see the groups listed when logging in as that user to OWA ECP and clicking on the
    Groups link.
I had a look at the link you sent me and I could see that from the Exchange server when I opened the User roles to get to the ECP, clicked on Roles and Auditing and then User Roles the only policy applied is "Default role assignment".  When I select
the details for this, under Distribution groups, "My Distribution Groups" is not ticked but my new one that I created "My DistributionGroupsManagement_Test" is.  So this looks ok.
    Any other ideas?

  • Some members of distribution list get email 15 minutes after the others

We have a strange problem. We've migrated cross forrest from an Exchange 2007 to an Exchange 2013. Everything seems to be ok, except for one issue we have which is that sometimes an email sent to a distribution group is received 15 minutes later by 2 - 3
of the users within the list.
The list contain 42 members, and I can see that the email is "sitting" on one server for the 15 minutes in question by reading the header of the email. The problem is not consistent.
Expansionserver is $null on all of my distribution lists, and I can have issues on other lists aswell, although that might just get noticed.
If I try the tracker tool in EMC or through the gui (ecp) I get a "to many items in array" error. So I can't see anything in my exchange shells either.
All the users in the list are in the same domain, but the users are spread across 2-3 exchange servers. The server that the mail is "sitting" in, oddly has 0 of the members within the distlist.
any advice as to where to look is appreciated. if it is a problem with the expansionserver I would be greatful for any steps to find out how that can be determined or even better, be resolved.

There are 4 exchange 2013 servers which migrated from Exchange 2007 server in a differnt forrest and on another domain
    Ex01: userA, userB, userC, userD
    Ex02: userE, userF
    Ex03: userG, userH
    DL: userA, userB, userC, userE
    Scenario:
    1. Email is sent to DL by user A, and user A , and he gets
his own email after 15 minutes (verified by header). It has hanged on Ex03 for 15 mins (nothing in the ev log on the server).
    2. user B gets the mail instantly and user E gets it delayed
(actually 40 got it spot on (after 3-4 seconds) three got it after 15 mintues.
If I send directly to the user, there are NO delays at all.

  • Upgrading distribution lists created in Ex2003 - any side-effects or problems elsewhere?

    Hello,
We migrated from Ex2003 to Ex2010 a couple of years ago.
I'm trying to change the name of a few old distribution lists in the EMC and I'm being prompted to "upgrade" them and warned that it's a one-way conversion.
I know this is needed and I know that it's necessary. My question is if the conversion will ONLY affect the lists, or if it will affect the members or some other part of the Exchange organisation in some way? I also read that it prevents anonymous users
(ie, Internet users) from mailing the upgraded lists by default.
Exchange 2010 latest service pack with Outlook 2010 clients. Single forest/domain. DAG-based implementation in two AD-sites.
    Thanks,
    - Alan.

    Hi Alan,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Upgrading the Exchange version of an object is a one-way-street. After you upgrade the Exchange version of this distribution group, it cannot be managed or downgraded to the Exchange 2003 level with the Exchange admin tools anymore. A user with an Exchange
2003 mailbox cannot modify the distribution group membership of an Exchange 2010 version distribution group.

  • Outlook Web App - Distribution Lists (Your Request can not be completed right now. Please Try again Later).

We just migrated over to Exchange 2013 and have a few issues.  The main concern is users and their individual distribution lists didn't carry over correctly.  I narrowed it down to the lists that users received via an email, then dragged-n-dropped
onto their Contact area.  All other individual contacts and other lists can be viewed/edited, its just the ones that was copied via an email into their contacts.  We get the message that "Your request can not be completed right now.  Please
try again later."  This is an important asset to be able to pass distribution lists from one user to another user (per department); but don't want to make the list a global list.  These distribution lists can be seen if using the full outlook
version; but won't display in OWA.

  • Moving distribution list memberships from contact to user object with sync engine

We only have the FIM sync engine and when replacing an AD contact object with a user object I am being asked to move the distribution lists that the contact is a member of over to the new user object. I've done the contact to user replacement provisioning
many times before but never had to migrate the group memberships over.
Does anyone have any advice for the best approach to do this?

This is what I suspected.  You are not doing conversions.  You are simply Deprovisioning contact and provisioning user. For all intends and purposes, the 2 objects are not related in any shape of form.  So how do you know that this contact
    is related to that user??
What you need is, to have both objects connected at the same time in MV before contact is deprovisioned.  Only this way you know that user 'U' is the same as contact 'C'.  FIM needs to know this.
For this, you need to have one MV object with 2 AD connectors, one for user and one for contact. You can use to MAs, or you can use code to have one object with 2 connectors.  (Usually this is not allowed, but with code you can pass this)
Before deprovisioning contact, you do the group membership changes, then you deprovision contact.

  • Move a distribution list from the forest root to a sub domain.

    Hello,
I am looking for the best way to migrate a distribution list I have in the AD forest root to a subdomain.  Is there a way to do this without rebuilding it from scratch?  We have Windows 2012 R2 domain controllers with a Windows 2008 R2 functional
    level.
    Thanks!
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn,
We can try using intraforest migration with ADMT. With the lateste updated ADMT v3.2, it supports Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, and we can download it from Microsoft Connect.

  • Defect #368646: Defect manipulating Distribution Lists

As stated in the Admin API Object Defect, there is a probleme using
Distribution List with members beloging to another domain than the one
    you are connected to.
This problem occurs ALWAYS for me and not only in certain cases.
Does anyone knows if Novell is aware of this problem, and will take any
action to support the method .users.Item ??
I don t see any other solution to manipulate distribution list correctly?
    Thanks
    For Information : Admin object
Defect #368646: In some circumstances, when the Admin API is used to
get a user in a secondary domain and report the name of that domain, in
    the following way -
Set usr = objAdminSystem.Users.Item("bbaggins", "books", "secdom")
    UserDomainName = usr.Domain.Name
the Admin API will report the name of the primary domain instead. In
addition, your Admin API application now thinks that any user in
the secondary domain now belongs to the primary domain. Defect
    reported
    to GroupWise Development.

Thanks for the answer but it s not possible as the GroupWise system is
    spanning over many eDir trees.
I have used the UserIterator to access the User object I need, despite it
is far longer than the Users.Item method, it works
But as soon as I iterate in the User Collection, I found what is shown as
duplicate users (may be unreadable object and the API is returning the
previous user red) and after 3700 users .. my program hangs the
    gwcmb1.dll.
Do you know if the API has some defects not reported in the defect list ?
Does Novell support this API ? I had a look for SOAP but there is nothing
to manage the GW objects, does Novell have a Admin SOAP ? or is planning
    to have one ?
Thanks for the answer. We have around 5000 GW users, 5 eDir, 12 domains
and around 20 POs .. and we are facing big issues to have a robust and
    open solution.
We are still using the API Gateway (on a 5.1 NetWare server in a VWWare
session as no hardware supports now NW 5.1) and our goal was to migrate
our DLs management from API Gateway to Admin Object API.

  • Journal Rules, Archiving and Distribution list

We will migrate to Exchange 2013 in the near future.
How will I migrated my journal rules, archiving and Distribution lists to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010?

    Hi,
In addition, if you are using Exchange online archiving, it will still apply to Exchange 2013. Just ensure the archive mailbox is moved to Exchange server 2013.

  • Creating Distribution Lists for Email

I have just migrated from BB. I was able to create distribution lists on the BB and have several in my Outlook. When I sync'd my new iPhone these lists did not get on my iPhone. Is there a way to either create distribution lists or have I missed something?
    Thank you in advance.

No, you haven't missed anything. There is a 3rd party app called ContactTap that will let you e-mail an entire Contact Group, it was free last week.
Alternatively, you can create groups and then store them as a single contact if you follow the instructions here:

  • How do I convert a distribution list to a mailbox

Is there a way to convert a distribution list to a mailbox ?

    Hi,
While this  is possible, we have found that once you have moved the smtp address to the newly created mailbox, any user who had the smtp address cached in their outlook profile will receive a NDR, and would require to delete the auto-completed address
before being able to send mail to it.
Is there any specific attributes that can be copied/migrated across to prevent this disruption?
We have an urgent requirement to change the distribution group to a user mailbox that is frequently used company wide and would be very keen to ensure the transition is seamless from an end-user perspective.
Any help would be much appreciated,

  • Cannot expand distribution list if message moderation is enabled

    Hi all,
Trying to find a solution to resolve a problem(or it is a bug?) in Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010.
Users in the company often expand distribution list. After migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, i found that if i enable message moderation on distribution list, they cannot expand the list anymore and Outlook said that unable to expand public
    group.
If i remove moderation on the distribution list, they can expand without problem.
Someone have a solution to this?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi John,
    My Exchange 2010 Version: 14.01.0218.013
It's on all DG who has moderation enabled.
No expansion server is set. (I tried to define one but still have the same error message in Outlook).
    I dont understand.
The expansion server is a transport level feature, so it should not affect Outlook.
Is Outlook in online or cache mode?
Does it happen with both modes?
Is a manager configured? Does it fail no matter what moderation option is chosen?
