Distribution of files containing an (euro) sign in the name

We have in our distribution a file with a eurosign in the filename. In the
logfile there is an entry with following message:
Gather (name of distribution) stopped with error - the file (name of file)
could not be read, therefore, it could not be gathered. (IO error)
The eurosign in the filename shows up as an ? (questionmark) in the above
errormessages.
If we remove the file then the distribution will be succesfully gathered
and distributed.
Is this a knownerror, am I doing something wrong, please, help. I have
searched the knowledge base, but found nothing.

Why curently still moving to ZEN 6.5? ZEN 7 has been out for a year now and
the general support for 6.5 has just ended, it's in extended support now so
only security fixed for the next year.

Import connections with + (plus) sign in the name

There seems to be an issue with importing connections that contain a "+" sign in the (reference) name.
This is easy to replicate:
* Create a new connection and name it e.g. "Test 123 +" (no matter if there are whitespaces or not)
* Export the connections (e.g. c:\temp\exp.xml)
* Look at the XML- you will find the connections names as they are...
* Now delete the test connection in SQL developer and try to import the connection from the file
I do not get any errors but nothing happens either. The connection simply gets skipped. When importing a connection file with many connection entries in it it will import all but those with a "+" sign in the name (this might apply to other characters as well).

But you said your connection had a '+' so that should still be good. Maybe it also had one of the other characters above?
You can override the check we do in the UI and manually edit the connections XML file to change the name to whatever you desire.Alas, only white-space and dash/minus signs in mine, I figured colon was bad. (e.g. Group - subgroup1, Group - subgroup2 type names)
I do have one that is just named as a hostname, with the periods, but I don't see that in the list.

"signed" in the name document when you save

Hello,
if you insert a image sign in a document pdf with the Adobe Reader XI, when you save the document, the program insert the text "-signed" at the end of the name. For exemple, in the name "doc.pdf", it will be "doc-signed.pdf". Please, I want not include this text, I want to have the same original name, "doc.pdf".
I have looked for it in Preferences and I not find the option to not include the text "-signed" in the saved name when you sign a document.

I am experiencing the same issue here and it is very frustrating.
I have a number of users who have the ability to place their 'Signature' (Image) on to a PDF.
Previously, they could save the file over the original file (which is stored on the network drive, so we only have one copy of the invoice) but now the Suffix, "-signed" is automatically entered to tive the following filename:
'{Filename} -signed.pdf'
This means that we can end up with duplicated files, the original and the -Signed copy.
It would be great to know the reason behind this, as it doens't appear to be a benefit to the user.

Saving a file pdf file and the file name appears on a PC with + signs in the name of the file - How do I eliminate the file name coming up with the + signs?

A pdf file is created from a word document and then posted to our dealer portal. It allows the dealer to open the pdf file and then either print and/or save off to a hard drive. The issue is the file name has + signs in between all the words. Is there a way to eliminate the file names coming up with the plus signs? It is not being saved that way. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Use a proper file name for the WORD document. MS decided several years ago to allow spaces, but that is not standard and is likely what the issue is. A good alternative is to replace spaces in file names with underbars, "_".

Huge number of files in the profile directory with at sign in the name

I noticed that my wife's Firefox v35 running on Windows 8.1 32bit has a huge number of files like:
cert8@2014-03-25T19;02;18.db
content-prefs@2014-01-30T21;28;58.sqlite
cookies@2014-01-08T18;12;29.sqlite
healthreport@2015-01-20T06;44;46.sqlite
permissions@2015-01-19T10;26;30.sqlite
webappsstore@2015-01-20T06;44;48.sqlite
Some files are quite new.
The original files get somehow backed up, but I cannot figure out how. My own PC does not contain such files.

Thunderbird can be made into a good mass mailing software by having the option of allowing a txt file name in the "To" field. The software then picks up each email address in the txt file and sends the email to each email address individually.
Most people keep a list of 100 or 200 or so emails to whom they send regular emails as a txt or xls file. This feature will help enable people use Thunderbird as the mass mailer and send emails to email addresses in a txt or xls file
Mass mailing softwares usually cost about $ 50 and this feature will save people this money.

Can I search zip files for a particular substring in the name and extract the file to a folder?

I need to search through lots of zip files, looking for files starting with a particular string. Then extract them to any folder. Can I do this in CVI?

thanks Wolfgang, but my level of experience is such that I could use a bit more detail. Do you mean that I might find a .dll and call one of its functions from CVI? So you know of nothing in CVI that I can use directly? I don't think that I would want to open the zip, extract all the files, search the folder where they were extracted to, copy the file if it has the target name substring, then rezip. Or, maybe there is a more direct solution.
Any thoughts?

ITunes replicates files and adds a '1' to the name

I run iTunes on a Windows PC and store my library on a network drive.
iTunes often makes a new copy of a song, complete with a new file.
The new file will have the number 1 added to the filename.
For example, a song 'Lovemedo.mp3' will suddenly spawn 'Lovemedo1.mp3'. Both reside in the same library.
Can anyone explain why this happens and how to remove all the extra files this creates?

I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

Flat file and encoding of euro sign

Hello,
I have a problem with a flat file which contain the euro sign. The file is encoding in ISO-8859-15.
I try to send the contain of the flat file in a DB2 database and it works fine. All characters are well encoding (é,è,û, ...) except for the euro sign.
When I execute the following request :
SELECT HEX(SUBSTR(FIELD,1,1)) FROM TABLE
where the first character of FIELD is the euro sign which is malformed, I get '80'.
In the topology, I tried with this :
jdbc:snps:dbfile&ENCODING=ISO8859_15
and this : jdbc:snps:dbfile&ENCODING=Cp1252
but the result is the same... :-(
Could you say me how to solve this problem please?

Adobe reader don't recognize the euro sign

I installed adobe reader on 2 pc's with windows xp sp3.
On one pc the euro sign in the pdf file is normal and on the
other pc the euro sign will not be recognized.
I did install adobe reader 9 on both pc's again, but
still the same.
What can be the cause???
I hope to hear from somebody with the same problem
and how to solve it.

In order to help you better please let me know which operating system you are using name and version of operating system.
Also let me know what is happening when you are trying to open the pdf document.
You may try right click on the pdf document and choose option open with and browse for reader application if you are using windows.

ITunes Update attempt: "The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character"

How can I install the latest version when I get this message : "The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character"? The message appears when I try to install the update and it appears when I try to uninstall the previous version. The instructions for manual uninstall says to use the Control Panel Uninstall Programs first and then "clean up" -- but I can't use the Control Panel Uninstall. I am running iTunes from an external drive. What to do?

That's normally produced by a damaged iTunes.msi. The basic treatment for it is given in the following user tip:

... but since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Downloads Center, things have grown more difficult. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now start with *step 4* from the user tip, and proceed from there.
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Numbers 2.1 when exported as an excel file and my application tries opening it, it says file contains corrupt data.

I recently updated my iPad to the latest iOS 7 and updated my numbers app to 2.1. When i export it to a excel file and then when my C# application(using gembox library) tries reading it, i would get an error "file contains corrupt data". before making the update to iOS 7 and before updating my numbers the process worked fine!

That didn't work for me and the page times out right about 5
minutes (300 seconds). I don't have timeout checked in the CF
Administrator so I don't think it is CF that is causing the
timeout. I checked IIS also and the timeout is set to 900 seconds.
Is there a possibility that SQL Server has some sort of
connection limit and I'm using too many cfquery tags? If anyone has
experienced a similar problem I would really appreciate the help,

HP Officejet 4500 - printing files with íáýžřčšě in the name

Hello, there is a problem with printing of files with Central European letters in the name. If the filename contains éíáýžřčšě (for example avízo, zpráva etc) , it is sent to the printer, but it stays in the query and is not printed. Everytime we need to rename th file and send again. (it took me pretty long time to recognize, what is the problem. Can I solve it somehow?
Second isssue: printer is not switched to sleeping mode automatically, and it lights for all night. Why, how to set the time to sleep?

Here is a little document from Apple Support about your connection: How to Connect a Wireless Printer to your Airport Network. I am not too fluent in Apple Airports but I see nobody has tried to help yet. I thought that one would connect the printer to the Airport via USB and then other devices could see it via wireless. That may not be the case here so I want to make sure I understand completely how you have the printer connected to the Airport. Are you using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer to connect to the Airport or are you connected to the Airport with a wire?

Changing the name of a uploaded excel file

Hi everyone,
I am being able to manage to change the name of a excel file when I am working on a scenario with a single file like this:

Here goes the BUT, but when I am trying to upload several files at the same time, I am not being able to rename the files.

When I do have several file the package works like this:
It list all the excel files and stores them into a *.LST file, after that it stores the names on a table. After that it uses a wildcard excel file to put the info to be uploaded, the on the scenario it transforms the data and uploads it into the target tables, then I supposedly change the name but it does not work.
Then It moves the file to another folder, and erase the name from the temp table….
I do really appreciate your help and guidance.

There is an interface as step 2. I had similar issue once when I wanted to delete Excel file that was just used via Windows ODBC driver in a step before. Solution there was to create two packages, one doing the job and a wait step at the end the other one just deletes the file. Now put the two into a master package and run it from there.
Probably the ODBC driver has the *.xls file still in some kind of stale/cached access.

Hi, I'm writing a plugin to export galleries for my homepage (standard html stuff). My current solution works and it creates a file named "index.html" and some additional stuff. Now I want to change the name of the created html file in the plugin (for example create a file galleryX.html with X being a number that is entered by the user). Is there a way to do this? I think the names of the files come from the plugin manifest. So you would create a file used as a template, and the name of that file would be the name of the resulting file.
AddPhotoPages and AddGridPages take options to control the target HTML filename that might give you what you want, as well.
