Distribution point removal

Hi,
Our SCCM Primary site crashed to a point where it cant be recovered.
I have now un-installed the primary site however the DPs on remote servers still exist as I could not start the removal of them from the console before hand.
Is there a way to correctly remove the Distribution point along with any other roles when the primary server doesn't exist any more?
Cheers,
Zac Avramides

Sorry. The command should be <configmgrinstalldir>\bin\x64\rolesetup.exe /deinstall /siteserver:PRI smsdp

  • SCCM 2007 Won't remove Distribution Points in Site Status

I'm working SCCM 2007 and have removed  some orphaned Distribution Points by going through and removing any application assigned to them and then removing the roles under the Site Systems Folder.
The Systems then disappeared from under Site Systems but when I look under Site Status, they're still appearing in the list there and I have no option to delete them.
I've tried following this link (http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/02/10/removing-old-orphaned-site-systems-from-the-sms-and-configmgr-2007-database/) and changing their replication field from a 0 to -1 which removes them temporarily but they always return
    into the Site Status.
I can't see them anywhere else in the console, they're definitely not sited under Site Systems so I'm a bit stuck and have 3 sites saying they're in a Critical State in Site Status because the Orphaned Distribution Points are still appearing there and I
can't see how to remove them.
To clarify, I removed the orphaned Distribution points over a week ago so I doubt it's something like waiting for the system to e them.  I've tried rebooting the SCCM server and this has made no difference
    My list of servers under Site Systems;
    My Servers in Site Status;

Execute the following command on the database
Delete from DPinfo where server name like '%DPName%'
It is completely unsupported to delete anything from the CM07 database. Before doing this you should contact CSS directly for support and ONLY with their guidance should you perform this task.

  • Is it possible to retry Distribution Point role removal if failed initially?

During my lab testing I came across a scenario where if you select to remove a distribution point role while the remote server hosting the distribution point isn't contactable, SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER won't retry the removal. Is there a (clean) way to manually
remove the distribution point role from the remote server or trigger SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER to attempt the removal again? In this case I will be rebuilding the server anyway, but I'm curious if there is a way to do this in case I encounter it in a production
    scenario

may be you can try this solution http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rslaten/archive/2006/03/01/removing-a-retired-dp-from-all-your-packages.aspx

  • Remove package from Distribution Point

I have been fighting with an OS deployment for the last day. The log was showing it was unable to find the package p0100001 which was my boot image. I eventually got it working as I failed to configure my boundary correctly. But it got me wondering...
In SCCM 2007, it was pretty straight forward on how to remove packages from distribution points. But I still can't figure out how to remove a package, specifically a boot image, from a DP. I can view the distribution in the monitoring section and see the
package successfully deployed, but what if I wanted to remove that boot image from the DP? How is this done. I'm sure it's staring me in the face, but I'm missing it. Thanks!

I realize this is an old post, but I am dealing with the same issue regarding the removal of deployment package contents from Distribution Points.  After removing a Distribution Point from the Contents Locations tab on one of my Deployment Packages,
how long does it take for the deployment package to be removed from the distribution point.  I have removed a large deployment package from a distribution point, but am not seeing any increase in the available free space.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Pull Distribution Point on updates removing

(1)When you distribute packages, you can use Pull Distribution Point. By this way, "SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" component can do more Jobs. OK.
(2)My question is about the process of updates removing. SCCM Site takes long time to remove expired updates from DP. Is this action managed by "SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" or SCCM Site notifies Pull DP to remove updates like (1)

distmgr is not involved when it comes to pull DPs. So assumption (1) is wrong. All actions are done by the pull DP after it was "notified" by the site.

  • SCCM 2012r2 - Remove "invisible" packages/applications from Distribution Point

    Hello alltogether,
    I've encountered the following issue:
Our distribution points are displaying applications/packages as "In Progress - Waiting for Prestage content".
These packages doesn't exist anymore. Neither as prestage file nor in the config manager itself. We never tried to apply this package by using a prestage file because such a file never existed.
Even if I open the "content" tab of one distribution point, I can't find these packages in there.
The exact status of this package is the following:
    Message: Distribution Content
Message Detail: Distribution Manager instructed Package Transfer manager to send Package "x" to distribution point "y".
    Status Type: In Progress
I want to remove these "ghost" packages from the Distribution Status overview. Anyone has a clue how to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best Regards
    Feyh

    Hello,
    thanks for your answer!
Unfortunately no, there is no information about these files.
Yesterday we installed a new one, extracted all of our prestage files on it and watched the status. The Packages weren't listed in the "Distribution Point Configuration Status".
After some time we added the new DP to our general DP-group where all of our packages/applications are assigned to. Now the "non-existing" packages are added with the "in Progress" status.
I had a look into "Distribution Point groups -> Our group -> properties -> content" but these packages aren't displayed in the list. Some of the packages are now in the "waiting for prestage content" state, others are staying with the "Detail will
be available after the server finishes proccessing ...".
We managed to remove one of the packages by deleting it from the database.
The following statement removed it from the Distribution status overview. However, we still are able to find the package in the database.
    select  * from SMSPackageswhere PkgID = 'P100003B'
    DELETE from SMSPackages
    where PkgID = 'P100003B'
Apparently the delete-statement affected 72 rows. But we are having no clue which. As long as we are not sure we killed anything important we are not going to do this with the other packages because it's the productive system. We can't reproduce this in our
    test system...

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Distribution Point untrusted domain - Not acknowledging Network Access Account (FYI)

    Hello!
    Scenario
Built a single primary site server in one domain with multiple distribution points. All site servers are member of this one site.
The distribution points in the primary site servers' domain function as expected. The distribution point deployed to an untrusted domain does not. The primary site server can see all objects in the domain, publishes successfully, and CCM client on the
DP in the untrusted domain knows its part of the site, knows its AD site (according to locationservices.log). The DP role is installed properly, logs are populating, queries are being made for application lists and updates. nfortuantely authentication
errors indicate that this software can'tbe downloaded.
In essence the DP in the untrusted domain can't pull down content from the primary site server. The role uses BITS to download content from IIS on the primary site server, but the requests each throw a 401 error. Unauthorised. This should be an easy fix.
Create a Network Access Account in the primary site server's domain, assign it to the site (Software Distribution setting), wait for the DP to pick up the setting and watch it retrieve its content. The DP in the untrusted domain is configured as a Pull DP,
implying it has to use a Network Access Account to download content. It knows the content is available and makes every effort to download it.
    Problem
The DP in the untrusted domain doesn't know a Network Access Account (NAA) has been defined for the site.
The account does exist, created in the primary site server's domain and assigned to the site. Its not a password issue. IIS has not been set for Anonymous access as this isn't needed - the NAA should provide the credentials it requires to pull down content.
A manual check using the URL of the package confirms the package is accessible from the DP when using the NAA's credentials. I've allowed enough time (i think) for the DP to acknowledge the NAA. For fun the DP role was removed, and the CCM agent removed. Both
were reinstalled. A fresh install didn't detect the NAA.
    Solution
After some soul searching and a little frustration, it came down to this: A Pull DP always uses the Network Access Account. If the DP can't find a Network Access account it will fail to pull down content. This is undisputed. Found an article that states
the Pull DP always uses the CCM client configuration to do its dirty work. At that point the CCM client was checked. It had the classic problem of only displaying two Actions - Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle, User policy Retrieval & Evaluation
Cycle. Most components were installed but not enabled. This is fairly common. Looked at the console, found the device, added the Approval column. Turns out it wasn't auto-approved. Reason being that the client is in an untrusted domain and clients in untrusted
domains aren't approved automatically (by default).
In this case something as simple as an Approving the client fixed these issues.
    The DataTransferService.log highlights the issue:

  • Distribution-Point sharing (SCCM 2007 - SCCM 2012)

I've some problems by gathering data from a SCCM 2007 Hierarchy, into the SCCM 2012 environment.

    Hi,
1.Please examine reports “All active package distributions” on SCCM 2007 to check whether have package is currently being installed or removed. Then refresh all DPs on SCCM 2007.
After completing these actions above, try to re-gather data.
2.If fail, please check the transaction log both on SCCM 2012 and SCCM 2007 SQL Server. Then, a SQL engineer should be involved in this case.(This forum do not support database issue)

  • Distribution point certifcates

    Hi,
Currently I have 3 servers setup, 2 of which are just distribution points.  Can all three servers share the same PKI client certificate or should they each have their own PKI certificate which are exported from their cert store.
Another thing I noticed is that in Administration -> Security -> Certificates. Is there any way to remove the unused certificates (certificates that are marked Blocked under status)
    Thanks,

    Hi,
The answer might be no. And I haven’t seen an official document about how to remove the ‘Blocked’ certificates.

  • SCCM 2012: Reinstall remote distribution point?

    Hi,
We have a remote distribution point to which we can't deploy packages anymore. Several attempts to repair it failed.
I'd like to remove the distribution point and reinstall it via SCCM 2012 console.
However, I'd like to know the impact since it contains GB of packages already.
Note: the DP has been removed for clients (temorarely) so no impatc there.
    My questions:
-what is best practises: can I just remove and add it in 1 go (or need to wait before re-adding, reboot needed in between)?
-will all data be pulled in again (I activated pull and would reactivate it after reinstall)?
-what's your experience in this procedure? does it work in general or is it preferrable I continue troubleshooting the current situation?
    Please advise.

I can see there was installed a new dotnet version C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319
    recently.
Can/should I register this to IIS?

  • Is the distribution point role required on an SCCM 2012 site server?

I am wondering if the distribution point role is required on an SCCM 2012 site server.
We have an installation of SCCM 2012 SP1 with a site server, and two remote DPs.
I would like to remove the DP role from the site server, and stand up another server (2012) at the same location, making it a DP and also have it hold the WSUS content.
I was successful in creating the DP on the new server.  I distributed all of our packages to the new server.
I then removed the packages from the DP on the site server, and removed the DP role from the site server.
After making these changes, we lost the ability to deploy packages, either from the new DP server, or from the previously existing DPs that were at other locations.
Deployment status in the SCCM console showed that clients were “waiting for content”.
I found that adding the DP role back to the site server, and distributing packages to it corrected the problem.
Deployment resumed after doing that.  Is it necessary to have packages on a DP on the site server?
We want to virtualize the server, and would like to make it as small as possible to facility restores.

    Hi,
Have you checked the log file distmgr.log? Maybe it can give us some clues.

  • Application stuck transferring to child primary distribution point

I have a single application (not a package) which is refusing to distribute to one of the child primary site servers.
Bit of background: The server was built a few days ago and all packages were prestaged and loaded onto the server successfully except for one.
    - The content status for this particular package is sitting at the state of "In Progress" (Starting to process content)
    - The despool component manager is continually reporting message ID 4407 (Despooler successfully receveied the compressed image for package XXXXXXX version 9.)
    - The despool.log periodically reports these messages (This package's information hasn't arrived yet for this version [9]. Retry later...) followed by (Despooler failed to execute the instruction, error code = 12)
    - Distribution manager component status will loop through status messages 2300, 2311 and 2301 (Beginning to process package, Successfully created or updated package and Successfully processed package)
    - Distmgr.log will report that the StoredPkgVersion is 5, and the SourceVersion in the DB is 10.
    I have tried
    - Removing the package from DP, waiting, and then re-adding it
    - Updating the distribution points (increment the version number from 9 to 10)
I recall having this issue in 2007 with standard packages, and I could fix this easily enough by updating the PkgStatus table and then refreshing the DP so it would re-download the content and work its issues out.
In 2012 it is clearly different, especially because I'm dealing with an Application and not a Package per se.
Is there a way to fix this? (Other than deleting the package from existence and recreating it)
Is there a way to clear all previous knowledge of this application at this particular child site, allowing it to just transfer the current, latest version of the content? (similar to how one would have fixed this in 2007)
    Thanks in advance!
    Tim

    Hi Jason
    Thanks for the reply.
The AV product does not appear to be getting in the way.
The activity in sender.log looks healthy, I can see the CAS transferring data across to this site (and others) without error.
All other content (Update packages, regular packages and OSD images) have distributed correctly
We did turn off the "Enable this distribution point for prestaged content" feature after doing the initial prestage of all media.
Is there a way to clear this package from a given child site so that we can distribute it down again and it ignores the older StoredPkgVersion that it has?
One thing I have noticed, before I left for the day yesterday, I deleted this package from this particular distribution point. Despite doing this, the despooler continued to loop the message ID 4407 (Despooler successfully received the compressed image for
package XXXXXXX version 9.) over and over again.
The current version of the package is 10, what this server allegedly has according to DistMgr.log is version 5.

  • Problems streaming specific App-V applications from specific distribution point. Cannot find any KB article on the error?

    Hi there,
Some clients are having trouble streaming specific app-v packages from a specific distribution point.
sftlog.txt shows the following on the client:

The client was unable to connect to an Application Virtualization Server (rc 2460410A-40002EFD)
I have recreated the DP based on the best practice for removing the DP and re-adding, as we've had other app issues which needed tidying up, but that has not fixed this issue.
I have searched for the above error (The client was unable to connect to an Application Virtualization Server (rc 2460410A-40002EFD) but I get no results.
Please help me with this, I've deleted the DP content and re distributed the content to the DP with no change.. If I remove the DP, the content is able to be streamed from other DP's no problem.
    Cheers
    Max
    Max Christopher

It looks as though this may have been sorted out  - A re bind of the computer cert on the DP to the default website https binding seems to have resolved this for me.

  • Distribution Points properties changing permissions

    Hi everybody!
How can we use RBA to lock down branch's admins DP properties changing permission....?
Branch admin's could change PXE properties and etc.....Could we let them work with DP object only in read mode?
In their role permission properties there are only "Read" and "Copy to DP" mark above "Distribution Point" object, but they still could change assigned to their scope DP's properties((

You've got to remove the Modify permission on the Site
object. In case you do want them to be able to modify other site settings, you can also create an additional scope configured to the specific distribution point. Then combine that scope and the role with less permissions on the site object together
on the administrative user and you achieved your goal.

  • Unable to create package shares on distribution points

For any OSD packages in our environment (like images, driver packages, etc) I always check the option "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points", so that we are able to run content directly from the DP's in a task
sequence instead of downloading it first to clients. But I've noticed now that for any new package I create, the package shares aren't being created thus my OSD tasks are failing due to missing content. When I check the copy content option for a new driver
package and monitor the distmgr.log, here is what I see:

That same sequence of errors is repeated for every distribution point we have. I checked the sharing permissions on the SMSPGKE$ and SMSSIG$ folders on the DP and everything looks correct. I only started noticing this issue after our SP1 upgrade, but I can't
find anything from Microsoft saying this is a known bug or how to fix it. This is also affecting new distribution points that we created after the SP1 upgrade, so I don't believe going down the remove/reinstall of all the DP's route will work. Any suggestions?

I've seen similar errors after installing SP1:
Failed to set share security on share \\DP.domain.tld\SMSSIG$. Error = 5
Failed to set access security on share SMSSIG$ on server DP.domain.tld
    DPConnection::Disconnect: Revert to self

Solution for that case: Use the computer account instead of a site system installation account:
    That might fix it.
