Distubution of BDLS  run  between work process

Hi all,
We have the R/3  4.6c with 4.2 TB and BW  7.0 with 7.4 TB , during the refresh from   prod to quality  the BDLS steps takes  nealry 24 to 40 hrs . We have break down the tables  and kicking off mutliple BDLS jobs  like Z * tables  in BDLS run and  other set of tables in another run  so that these jobs will run parallel . During this BDLS conversion  only one  background process
is running  for one BDLS run  is there any way to make the load distubution among available background process to so that the conversion will complete sooner.
For example : In  R/3 i have trigger one BDLS run for CATSDB  table  in background  this will  occupy only one background process, how can we make to use of available all background process to run  for CATSDB so that conversion will be completed soon .
Please suggest..
Thanks,
Subhash.G

There is nothing wrong is running BDLS jobs in parallel. We were facing a similar situation in a project a few years back and then I had devised a solution after taking inputs from various sources and usage of parallel processing was one of steps of achieving BDLS faster. Parallel processing is not an issue at all. However parallel processing needs to be done smartly. Bigger tables ought to be excluded and for them dedicated processes can be used. For the rest you can tables for bracket them like A* to D* ,E* to F* and so on  making sure you are exclusing the larger tables. However usage of temporary indexes for big tables where not all the fields need to be filled in can be helpful. The index needs to include the field for logical system .No point in creating temporary indexes for tables where the logical system field is always full since anyways a complete table scan would be performed. Create indexes for 6-7 largest tablest of this kind. Of course increase thnumber of background processes as well temporarily.

  • Understanding Storage shared between work process

    Hi guys,
I was just trying to understand the SAP memory management  and I think I don't really have good understanding of the SAP memory pools that we  can view via ST02 .
Under the Storage shared between work process section we have :
So what are these memory area ?  "Not in pool" seems to have almost 90% of configured SAP pool memory.
Not in Pool seems to be allocated (3.4G here) the moment the SAP instance is started.
Can you please explain the concept of the memory Pools in  the SAP? I have vague idea but I do not really understand this.
I think when we increase the  various SAP buffers (like program,scree,Export/import), we increase these pools...
Can you please help me link these pools with the four main memory areas of the SAP:
    1. Roll
    2.Extended
    3.Page
    4.Heap
    or are they entirely different?
As you can see I badly need to tune my SAP buffer memory ! Before increasing these buffers I need to understand if we have sufficient memory left in the box.
    regards,
    Rakesh

    Hello back,
I have read few other posts and help.sap.com for more clarity on the memory management. I am getting the hang of it but I would like  you to explain this query.
I have just rebooted our LINUX box which has two application server each for CRM and R3.
However, I couldn't understand the current  memory  usage that is shown by free -,m command at OS level and the sum I get from the ST02 txn for each of the app servers.
    see the scraancap  below:
Here at os level, used memory (all physical)is around 6GB and no SWAP memory:
This linux box has no other applications running other than two app servers as I mentioned.
And when I check the ST02 current memory in both the app server :
If we consider only extended memory , the sum of the current usage is about 4G+6.7G=10.7G
and I assume they are allocated using physical memory(Could be virtual=physical+SWAP) which clearly shows that far more than the current memory used shown at OS level , here around 6G...
So that's my confusion, would really appreciate if someone can help me understand this.
    Regards,
    Rakesh

Maximum runtime of dialog work process is controlled by parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time  I am not sure how it is possible to have dialog work process running for so many days. Secondly, when you restart the system means new PIDs will be allocated and it will be not the same dialog work process. Check SM50, trace information for more details and clues.

    Hi,
My Suspicion is your TNSNAMES.ORA is not configured properly. Please refer the following will be useful to resolve the error.
Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA)
    - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper directory and is accessible.
    - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
    - If you are using directory naming:
    - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is accessible.
    - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the connect identifier is configured in the directory.
    - Verify that the default context being used is correct by specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN as the connect identifier
    - If you are using easy connect naming:
    - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Make sure the host, port and service name specified are correct.
    - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks. See the Oracle Net Services Administrators Guide or the Oracle operating system specific guide for more information on naming.

  • SAP SRM UI (NXP) - Work Processes remain running

    Background:
Shopping carts are being processed through the new SAP SRM UI (NXP). On occasion, dialog Work Processes are left in 'running' status even when there is nothing happening in the front end.
It occurs for many standard programs, but when checking the WP details, all are pointing to the same class
    /IWFND/CL_MGW_RUNT_RCLNT_PRXY and function module /IWBEP/FM_MGW_CHANGESET.
The /IWFND/*_LOG transactions aren't showing any errors or warning
I haven't found any relevant SAP notes.
    Environment:
    Oracle 11 on AIX
    SRMNXP01                       100        0002 SRM Add-on New Experience
    GW_CORE                        190        0003 SAP GW CORE 190
    IW_BEP                         200        0007 Backend Event Provider
    IW_FND                         240        0003 SAP IW FND 240
    SAP_ABA                        701        0013 Cross-Application Component
    SAP_AP                         700        0029
    SAP_BASIS                      701        0013 SAP Basis Component
    SAP_BS_FND                     701        0013 SAP Business Suite Foundation
    SAP_BW                         701        0013 SAP Business Warehouse
    MDM_TECH                       710_700    0009 MDM_TECH 710 : Add-On Installation
    PI_BASIS                       701        0013 Basis Plug-In
and some other bits and pieces (including SAP UI% and associated components)
    QUESTION:
At the moment, I'm interested in a BASIS perspective; I want to ensure the platform (SRM_SERVER, GW_CORE, UI5, SRMNXP01, etc) is stable and functional. However, I'm not familiar with debugging / tuning / administrating the SAP Gateway (I still think SMG when I hear Gateway), so these may have fairly obvious answers to the right people, but ...
    1) What or where should I be looking for further clues ? My first thoughts are around the available network connections.
    2) Is there a transaction that provides real time monitoring of GW CORE ? I've found that the /IWBEP/VIEW_LOG and /IWFND/*_LOG transactions are only useful after the fact.
    thanks

    Hello Martin,
such hanging work processes can have many causes. Which AIX version do you have? Please take a look at the note
1873277 - Hanging Work processes on SAP Application Servers
if it can be relevant in your case.

  • Mapping between SAP work process and db2 application/applications ?

    Hi,
I want to identify what db2 application(s), maps to particular SAP work process.(when I mean db2 application I mean entry in "list applications" command output)
Both db2 "list applications" and SAP work process lists PIDS of processes they belog.
I want to find what db2 process maps to particular sap work process ? (I'm not sure is it one-to-one or one-to-many)
    thanks

Using the DBACOCKPIT / ST04 (DB02 ... just leads you to a different branch of the DBACOCKPIT) gives you the option to view the mapping from SAP level.
The DB2 facility to use is the application snapshot
db2 get snapshot for applications on <dbname>
which is not very handy to use.
Another way that can be used from DBACOCKPIT (see Diagnostic -> SQL Commands) and database level is SQL - in V9.1 and V9.5 e.g. use
    select agent_id, client_pid, coord_agent_pid from sysibmadm.snapappl_info
In v8 (as of fp9), you also can use SQL - just the view names are different. The beauty of this approach is that you easily can taylor the query to provide exactly the info you need. I suggest to consult the documentation on available views and routines.

  • Work processes ended by itself

    Hi all
Yesterday, in our BI system, all of a sudden in the evening all our work processes went into the end state and the system froze.
We did not issue a endsap or anything like that.
We tried looking into the files but are not sure what exactly happened.
    In the DSPLOG QHST,
We see the work proocess WP00 ended abnormally and then everything went down after that.
We saved the files to investigate.
Here is the trace file for WP00 :

    Hi Ingrid
Thanks a lot for the response.
That parameter is right now set to "0".
But on reading the documentation for that parameter, it says you should change it only if SAP recommends you to do so.
We checked in our other systems as well and all that is set to "0" as well.
Will that be Ok to change the parameter to a different value?
If yes, what is the value to be used?
    Thanks a lot

  • How do I run a full process from SSIS ???

    Hi all
I run BPC 5.1 SP3, and I need to automate a series of jobs, but the system is giving me problems and I hope someone can help out.
I need to automate a full optimize and then a full process of our AppSets.
I know that in SP3, the Appsets are taken offline for the full optimize and are then left offline, so in-between I run the "SystemAvailableTask" to set the Appsets back online.
Additionally, all dependencies are removed from the FACT table for the optimized AppSets, which are only rebuilt by performing the full process afterwards.
Anyway, the problem I have is that the optimize is running quite happily from SSIS, as is the SystemAvailableTask.
Up to this point in the job, everything works as intended, so I now have a fully optimized Appset, which is available for users to access.
However, the Full Process job then fails.
I have run the Full Process as a standalone job from SSIS and it takes 2m36s to run, but fails to rebuild any dependencies.
When I ran it from the SAP Admin program, it took 9m57s to run and rebuilt everything correctly.
I am currently only offered 1 option in the SSIS package, which is to run a Full or an Incremental process, so I select Full.
However, on the right-hand side, there are various other options available (such as bApplicationProcess, PROCESSMODE (set to "3"), PROCESSOPTION (set to "1"))
Should I be changing any of the settings on the right to make the job run properly, or should I be doing it differently.
Obviously, I need to make this work from SSIS, as I can't schedule a full process any other way, so I would be extremely grateful for any help that you can offer.

The easiest way to do this is to write a Tuxedo server (i.e., using only
ATMI and no CORBA stuff) that does the following:
1.) In tpsvrinit(), the last thing that it should do is a tpacall to the
service contained in this server (and nowhere else) with the TPNOREPLY
    flag.
2.) In the method that implements the service, do your database work, sleep
for a little while, do another tpacall to itself with the TPNOREPLY flag,
    and return.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

    Hello folks:
How can I run a background process that runs under WLE's control.
What I am looking for is a way to have a process that runs in an
infinite loop and polls the database to see if there is any background
work that needs to be done. But I still want the process to be managed
    by WLE for fault tolerance.

  • Very unstable application server on Linux : work process are dying

    Hello,
SAP release : SAP R/3 Enterprise
    Linux : x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Oracle : 9.2.0.7.0
Our production environnement consists of one Central Instance server (HP-UXia 64) and five application servers (Linux x86_64). All the application servers are exatly the same, same hardware, same OS, CPU, RAM ...etc
But only applications server "number 4" is giving us problems, it is not restarted automatically with the others servers, all the work processes appear in red in transaction sm51, the workprocesses (DIA,BGD,UPD) are dying one after another. Yesterday two workprocesses were stopped, then four, and this morning eight workprocecess
We don't have any performance problems :
each application server has 32Gb of physical memory ( 24Gb of physical free memory)
each applications erver 4 CPU (idle = 80%)
It doesn't seem to be an SAP problem.
At first we thought, ot was an OS issue, we desinstalled the applivcation server, and asked our system administrataros to reintall the OS, then we reintalled the application server.
But it didn't help, we're still facing the same problems.
Half of our workprocecesses are now stopped, the workprocesses log can not be utilized for analysis :
There is no information about what happened this morning :

    Hi there,
Your physical memory is totally adequate. To make sure, you can check the buffer tune transaction ST04 for issues like swap.
Is the work process log you pasted here complete?? After restart of dialog instance, do all wp come up in Wait state?
Apart from work process logs, please check the system log for errors. Also, check the database connectivity from your app server.
    regards, Sean.

  • How to moniter the max quantity of used dialog work process in SAP system

    Dear Gurus,
The quantity of Dia Work Process(DWP) of APP1 is: 16 (rdisp/wp_no_dia=16)
The quantity of Dia Work Process(DWP) of APP2 is: 16 (rdisp/wp_no_dia=16)
The quantity of Dia Work Process(DWP) of APP3 is: 20 (rdisp/wp_no_dia=20)
The quantity of Dia Work Process(DWP) of APP4 is: 20 (rdisp/wp_no_dia=20)
So the quantity of DWP in our SAP system is: 72 (=161620+20).
We have 75 dialog users and many RFC callings via JCO method from J2EE system.
I'm afriad the 72 DWPs will be run out of use someday.
So I want to moniter the max quantity of used DWP every per hour to prevent the situation I mentioned above.
Could you give me some suggestions?
    Thank you very much..
    Jason

    Hi Olivier,
I really appreciate your help. You told me a very useful clew!
As the method you told me, I have some questions:
(a3) Do you restart your 'CI + 6 DIA' separately every week? Why did you do that?
(a4) How to calculate 'CPU intensive time'?  For example, App server 'APS' was restarted on 8-10-2011 and stopped on 8-20-2011.
There was a DWP(PID 557550) was created and activated on APS during this period(10 days). So If I add up each 'cpu time' of the task
which 557550 executed, I can get the 'CPU intensive time' of 557550 (dispalyed in SM50). Right?
        In other words:
           DWP(PID 557550) finished task1: cpu time = 5ms  8-10-2011
           DWP(PID 557550) finished task2: cpu time = 4ms
           DWP(PID 557550) finished task3: cpu time = 6ms  8-20-2011
         So the 'CPU intensive time'(Between 8-10-2011 and 8-20-2011) of DWP(PID 557550) is: 15ms (5ms4ms6ms). Right?
(a5)Can we moniter the 'CPU intensive time' of DWPs in CCMS automatically? (I want to prevent the situation: The DWPs in our entire ECC are occupied.)
    Thank you!
