Disturbing red pixel mosaic in dark areas.

In PowerMac G4 MDD with ATI radeon 9800, the LCD display shows red or blue pixels in a places which should be dark.
If there should be black in the video, in the screen, there is some kind of cubical fractal pattern of red pixels in opacity of 15 %.
Like this:
http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LCD-DISPLAY-PROBLM.jpg
When the same displays is connected to old B&W G3 black shows out black, and if the display is connected to be a PowerBooks external display, the image is fine.
So my suppose is that the problem is in graphic card...
...any idea what might be the problem and how to fix it?

I have very similar issues with red and green pixels, dots and lines that seem to halo any change from light to darker areas of the screen, often fringing those gradations. It is especially bad in any movie that I play. I have a PMG4 dual 1.25Ghz with an upgraded ati radeon 9600 pc & mac edition card running a dell 30" lcd. I've done all the usual suggested, but I am seeing this online as a widespread ati/30" phenomenon as well on ACD 30" and Dells both. About every report I've seen about this is about an ATI card. The only "cure" is to reduce colors to thousands which I don't like and won't allow me to run iPhoto slideshows etc.
I hope someone has an answer, I have a few days before returning these two items and coming up with a new solution.

  • I get red pixels in the dark areas when converting duotone images to RGB

Hi, I have been using Duotone with my photos, but since the other day, everytime that I process a photo this way, when I convert then back to RGB mode, the dark (black) areas of the photo become a kind of bitmap of red pixels. I have tried with many different photos from RAW or JPEG files and I get the same result with all of them. This is an example of the issue. The original is on the left.
What may cause this? The photo looks good in duo tone. It is when converting to RGB when the corruption happens.
    Thanks

Not following you:  why are you converting from Duotone back to RGB?

  • White pixels appear on dark areas on rMBP

Since 10-12-12 there suddenly appeared small, single pixel, white dots on web pages and other applications with darker areas. Many of the dots come in pairs and move with the image, ruling out display problem.
I took into the Apple store and the tech determinded that it was an OS problem and suggested I reinstall the OS. To come to this conclusion the tech ran several tests including screen display and external OS tests.
After I installed a new OS, the problem persisted. The next step was to call AppleCare and see what else could be done. They suggested a completer erase and clean install of the OS... no better.
I was able to restore to a backup post pixel problem and now waiting on a solution. Anyone else...?

Blue Pixels appearing? hmmm, not good---take a look and see how many and if it is distracting -- there are pixel pix programs you can try and use, however, LCD screens are know for a dead pixel here and there. Whats weird is that the pixels are blue? Usually when a pixel dies, its colorless. If you are getting a great deal on the PB (as in real cheap) and the lixel issue isnt to bad -- then take a shot at it. You always get what you pay for.

  • As of last patch, CR is adding red pixels... why?

As of this week's patch I am now seeing red pixel blotches in highlight areas.
These areas were not red prior to the patch and nothing else has changed on my system.
This seems to be some kind of highlight warning. I can save my pic to jpg or other formats and the red is not present. I can reduce the highlights and the red areas deminish with reduction.
Adobe, if this is some sort of warning thing you added, GET RID OF IT!

Do you have the show highlight clipping enabled?
Do the red areas go away if you press O on the keyboard?

  • Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, Apple Staff ignored it with rude manner.

Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, I 've just it for 6 days. After that I went the store (Thailand) to turn it, they told me that it's a dead pixel and Apple won't replace it to the new one - there must be more than 3 to claim.  How can I do?
The store guy told me I should go Apple Service Center. The Center's staff kept my ipad and told that replacement depends on Regional office at Singapore.
She also blame me that "Why don't you look for dead pixel before you brought?"
What !!! Dead Pixel is the fault of Apple Factory, but she said like I'm so stupid to brought a dead-pixel ipad.
"If you want me to do something on your case call to Singapore by yourself" she said.
After I called to Singapore, I found myself the staff there treated me so bad and confuse.
    1. The first guy at Singapore said  "Because you 've just brought it for 6 week you can choose between replacement or refund, but leave me your numbers we will call you back."
    2. Shortly, a rude guy called me - said to me about Bright and Dead Pixel - then said "It's not our authority to replace ipad for you, you paid your money for our dealer (Store in Thailand), so you must ask for resposibility from them. "
What !!!!! He treated me like I'm not a customer. Store and Care Center in Thailand told me it ups to Singapore, but Singapore told me not.
Who lied? However, I'm still Apple Customer. Whatever country I brought it, I paid for Apple product. Where are thier responsibilities?
I hope, Apple U.S. is my last resort.

Given that you can return/exchange it for any reason within the 14-day window after you bought it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Do you live near an Apple retail store? That may be your best bet. It certainly worked for me: I ordered mine online and when I noticed an air bubble embedded in the glass, I brought it to my local Apple Store and 15 minutes later walked out with a replacement. No fuss whatsoever.

  • Dark area pixel flickering

Ever since I bought my iMac it has occasionally had a weird flikering in dark areas on the screen. It has happened in quicktime videos, iPhoto, Photoshop and sometimes on just the desktop background.
Some of the pixels sparkle green, red and yellow. Twice its happened in the last few days, but it seems rather random and usually long between occurances.
I posted in the below topic about this time last year, a few people said it was the logic board, but the last poster stated the problem persisted even after replacing the logic board.

I have had white pixel flashing for months now, it only happens when the monitor has been off and is woken up. Usually only lasts about 1-3 minutes until the monitor seems to be "warmed" up, very odd but nothing else is wrong so I haven't called Apple. This is on a Rev 3 iSight also. Does this happen to you after the monitor has been on for a while? I am thinking it has something to do with the screen not being at full operating temp.

  • Red Pixels in Black Areas

I just purchased my MBP last week, and so far things have been pretty good. Just one minor issue that I can't seem to figure out; at times when I am viewing black areas, they have a bunch of little red pixels inside them. It's not that the pixels get stuck, I can scroll the images and the red pixels stay in the same area of the picture.
Has anyone else had a similar situation or a solution?
    http://h.imagehost.org/0620/Screenshot_2010-08-04_at_12_10_52AM.png

When I look at it, there are little red pixels all over cat's paw. I will have to actually take a picture of my screen with a camera. The red areas sometimes flicker, but it's never a big botch of red, just a lot of nearby pixels. It is not the image, I can see the image clearly on my PC, on here there are red pixels on it.
I will take a photo and post it ASAP.

  • Flashy red pixels

    Hello,
I'm having a really weird problem. I was working on my macbook pro 15 inch, late 2008, and I went to eat. When I came back, it was on sleep mode. I turned it on, and then, there was alot of Flashy Red Pixels but only on Dark aera on the macbook display!
It seems that all the Black pixels were replaced by flashy red pixels!
I re-started the computer, and you know at the beginning, just before the apple with the grey background, my screen flashed in red!
After I Closed my screen, and just hit the computer once ( lol I know, but it was my last resort ) and my problem is fixed! No more red pixels....
But I am scared that it will happen again...
Did this hapened to anyone of you? What can you suggest me?
    Thank you!
    Marco

What's odd is that I'm having the same problem on my Macbook Pro 2.33 that started around the same time this message was posted. I've turned off all my unnecessary start up files, but no help. The Red pixels get worse as the machine heats up.
My motherboard went bad in the first 3 months of having the computer (circa 2007). They replaced it for free (warranty), and the only thing I've done since then is upgrade the HD and replace the left fan that went bad.
I've taken the machine apart and tested all the connections. Nothing helped. There are a couple threads out there for this problem with no real suggestions in sight.
I can't remember when 10.6.2 released. The monitor is off from the very start, so it would have to have been firmware if it's not hardware. The left edge of the screen has an indented reddish pixel running down the side. Extreme blacks are red.
It really makes using the computer impossible being an artist.

  • Turquoise and Red Pixel streaks while browsing

I'm hoping someone can help me with this (thanks X 1000 if you can!)
I've had my Macbook for a little over a year NEVER dropped, always handled with the utmost care.
Recently noticed blotches of red pixel on my desk top (with a dark screen saver) when I browse the internet with a mostly white page I see blotches of turquoise pixels. (THE RED AND TURQUOISE BLOTCHES STREAK WHEN I SCROLL, OR CLICK THE WINDOW AND DRAG IT AROUND THE SCREEN)
I've THOROUGHLY tried to research this on my own - THIS IS NOT A DEAD PIXEL ISSUE -DEAD PIXELS DONT MOVE!!!
It almost seems like a refresh issue, because if I scroll down further, or (click-drag) highlight the effected area it goes away until I scroll again.
    * I ran a hardware check (reboot, and hold down D') and it came back clean...
I'm at wits end and when this laptop was purchased it was close to 3 grand! I dont want to shell out another cent until I know (or at least have a pretty good idea what the issue is)

  • Pixel mosaic in LCD screen

This is not about FCE, but relates to it quite closely:
In PowerMac G4 and PowerBook G4 The LCD display shows red or blue pixels in a places which should be dark.
If there should be black in the video, in the screen, there is some kind of cubical fractal pattern of red pixels in opacity of 15 %.
When the same displays is connected to old B&W G3 black shows black, and when old tube dislplay is connected to G4 it also functions correctly.
Any advice, or hint from where to search a solution?
the problem is same with older nokia display:
    http://press.nokia.com/PR/199803/776635_5.html
    and newer Samsung :
    http://www.samsung.com/fi/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersperipherals&t ype=computersperipherals&subtype=monitors&model_cd=LS20HAWCSQ/EDC

To correct the trouble shoot: Actually the problem does not appear if displays are connected to PowerBook G4:s external display. So the problem only occurs in PM G4 MDD, with Ati Radeon 9800.
    See the image:
    http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LCD-DISPLAY-PROBLM.jpg
So to me it seems that the problem is in graphic card.
Any idea what could be done to make it function correctly?

  • Dark areas in photos looks different in Loupe and Develope

First let me say that I´ve created a similar thread in lightroomforums.net.
Let me also add that I´ve made extensive research on the web and also read this post: Why does the color and or tone of my image change after import?
    This is my current setup.
    I run lightroom 5.6, OSX 10.10.
I have been shooting with a 7D or a EOS M in RAW, Adobe RGB With picture style set to standard and no JPG´s.
I have imported my photos as DNG´s with no develop settings applied and build previews set to 1:1 (I have tried different settings here).
I have my Catalog Settings / Preview Cache set to 2880 pixels, quality: High (I have also tried different settings here) (I have a very big screen)
    Now to my problem.
Now when I review my photos in 1:1 (or any other size) the dark areas looks good in develop module but when i go back to Loupe the dark areas have a slightly brighter, less contrast look.
This problem only occurs in the darkest parts and does not effect the rest of the image. The overall picture looks the same except for the very darkest parts.
I have tried different monitor calibration settings but the issue persists.
I have tried to create a new catalog, import some new shots but with no difference.
I have also done the same but instead of import to DNG´s I have copied the CR2´s, no difference.
I have tried to optimized the catalog and I have also "Update DNG previews and metadata", no difference.
When "edit file in photoshop CC" the version of the photo that opens in photoshop is the "Loupe" view.
This only happens with RAW/DNG files and not with TIFF or JPG.
Here is a picture that in my case looks very bad in Loupe view but significantly better in Develop View: Dropbox - IMG_3662.dng
I will also try to post two screendumps at 2:1 from the the two views. The picture with more darks in it is the screendump from the develop module and the less dark is from the loupe view.
Why is this occurring? How can I stop it?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    UPDATE:
I have taken 4 new shots with the same setup as described above.
But with different color settings and picture styles.
    Adobe RGB - Standard
    Adobe RGB - Neutral
    sRGB - Standard
    sRGB - Neutral
With the same results. Dark areas look darker in Develope module.

  • Strange, red, pixelated images

    Hi,
I recently purchased Lightroom 5 and I've been really enjoying it so far.
One issue I've found however is that occasionally Lightroom creates a weird, red pixelated effect on edited images in library module.  I've posted a develop view, and library (loupe) view example below.  It tends to occur on under exposed images that I've used noise reduction on.  Sometimes, this persists in develop module too.
    Develop module: http://i.imgur.com/G7hROKv.jpg

Any ideas about what is causing this or how to fix it?
    FYI, it exports fine.

    Frank,
Actually, they were all similar enough to be able to crop, lift and stamp, so the viewable versions are all in working order. Problem solved. At this point, I'm just seeing if there are any other answers as far as fixing the Masters? I do not have any known backups of the originals before they were corrupted. The only thing that comes to my mind is to export all of the cropped versions and then to reimport them as Masters, but I really don't know what I would be doing. I mean, I know how to do that, but don't know if doing it somehow diminishes the image quality. The strange thing is, when I export the version, it is almost 4 times the size in MB of the Master (after exporting the Master). I don't fully understand image size as it relates to image quality, but I was always under the impression that the larger the file size, the more data stored and the higher the quality of the image. Therefore, a 5MB JPEG is of higher quality than a 2.3MB JPEG for example. Since the originals were JPEGS, I would assume that by exporting versions of the Master, I would be compressing an already compressed image? I don't really know, so I am not going to do anything about this unless someone can shed some clear light on what it all means, and what the ramifications of these types of actions would be.

  • Why does the clone stamp work when I go from a darker colour to a lighter colour but not the other way around. How can I lighten up a dark area? Lasso tool takes from the wrong area too.

Why do you use the Blend Modes Lighter and Darker at all in this case and not simply Normal?
And what kept you from posting a screenshot?
I borrowed the image below for an HDR workshop I ran at the 2010 PSNZ National Convention, to demonstrate a method of removing halos.  You'll remember that halos were a serious problem with early HDR, and while the halos in this image were caused by over sharpening, they are perfect for demonstrating this technique.
It relies on the fact that halos so often tend to put a lighter tone between the two areas where sharpening is being applied. Whether that is the sky abutting a dark line of hills, or the rock and little tower as in this image.  I've uploaded it at the size it was supplied to me at (about 2700 pixels wide).  So
Click to open the full image, right click and copy, and paste into Photoshop.
Select the clone tool, and set its blend mode to Darken.
Try to sample on a line horizontal to where you want to clone, to give the best tonal match, and start cloning.
Because the sky is darker than the halo, it overwrites it. But the rock is darker than the sky, so it has no affect.
It works even better if you clone on a new layer also set to Darken.  No masking, just Photoshop blend mode magic.
You can also fix the little tower. Use a great big brush — just remember to sample horizontal to match the horizon.
Back then I was using the same trick with CAs after forgetting to fix them in ACR, and having done too much work to start again after spotting the problem.

  • 22 in display red pixel flickering

I have an older second hand 22 in cinema display connected to my 1.25 ghz powerbook. it uses an older round adc/dvi adapter. anyone know why or how to solve constant red pixels/lines flickering horizontally on black backgrounds?

    Hi Byron,
If the normal display on your powerbook is OK, then it won't be the graphics card.
If you can, try hooking the ADC display to another computer (preferably one with an ADC port). If the display functions OK, then the problem is not within the display.
That leaves the adaptor and the connections between the powerbook and the display.
You need to check that all physical connections are clean, intact and tight. Check for loose wire connections by gently wiggling the cables where they insert into plugs (if it's loose, you will see changes in the display).
Check that there is no play in the DVI output on the powerbook - plugs can exert a lot of leverage on this socket, and it is possible that there is physical damage.
Depending on what you find, you may be able to sort this out yourself. However, a lot of these plugs are not user serviceable, and the Powerbook DVI output certainly isn't.
    Cheers!
    Karl
