Diversity Antenna for 1250 Series

For the 1250 Series do you need to specifically purchase a "diversity" antenna, or does that just come with the fact that there are 3 antennas per radio module?

I guess that depends by what you mean when you say diversity.
Directional antennas provide just that, direction. Where your signal coverage is 'directed' to just a certain area, such as long range, or in a 90 degree pattern, etc.
By diversity, that sounds more like the fact that each radio has 3 antenna outputs. So each of the radios in the 1252 Access Point is sending out 3 signals at one time. Whether each of the these 3 antennas is separate, or all built into one piece..its still 3 diverse signals.

Is it must to use all three antenas in 1250 series for wireless n?
I want to use Cisco 1250 series devices ( AIR-LAP1252G-E-K9 at 2.4 GHZ ) with wireless
controller of 4400 or 5500 series.
I want to use wall mount patch antenas (I will choose any one of the following models)
AIR-ANT2460P-R   6 dBi Patch Antenna
or
AIR-ANT2465P-R   Diversity Patch 6.5 dBi
or
AIR-ANT2485P-R   Patch 8.5 dBi
Now my questions are :
01. The 1250 series has options for three antenas connectivity.is it must to use all the three antenas on each LAP ?
02.Suppose I want my Access point to support wireless G and Wireless N ,then can i get it done by using ONLY ONE ANTENA?
03.Suppose I want my LAP to support only wireless n clients then can I use only one antena on each access point?
04.There are thick concrete walls comming on the way.Which of the above antenas you suggest best?

Antenna for 3700 series

Hi all,
I have done a lot of research regarding the best antennas for the warehouse but would like to hear your views on what I have chosen.
We are deploying in the warehouse and the ceiling is 10m high. We will be installing the 3700e and am eyeing the low profile omnidirectional antenna AIR-ANT2535SDW-R.
Well, one is because I read this: Choice of antenna as recommended by Cisco for the warehouse is that when configuring coverage for aisles, try to use directional (Patch) antennas on the wall and shoot down the aisles; or use low-gain Omni-directional antennas on the ceiling (such as dipoles) or units with integrated antennas because high gain omni-directional antennas tend to have more nulls.
And also there was a thread where Scott mentioned that he almost always goes for the omnidirectional. The guy there was deploying in a warehouse that is 12 m high.
Yes, I know that survey is best option. and no, I do not have an antenna or a 3700 to test. So basically, am looking for ideal figures. If the AP is to be mounted 10 m high, will this antenna handle it or otherwise? If not, what antenna is best?
Oh yer, also saw this from CCNP guide...
Antennas should not be too high (20 feet = 6m or higher ), otherwise, the client signal is seen as weak even below the antenna, and there is no clear difference in the client signal when close or far from the AP.

1) What is the safe distance for the small profile omnis? Like up to 6 m up ?
2) Read an earlier comment where you mentioned that best to use patches if you have a height of about 50" due to the signal bouncing back. Does that comment refer to only ceiling mounted patches or also wall mounted ones? If it refers to ceiling mounted ones, then doesnt that mean that we should not prefer it in this case?
3) I am looking for a ceiling mounted option to cover from 12 m high...Due to cost, what would be your second option? The antenna you in the link is good but it basically radiates omni directional, meaning that the signal is also radiated above the ceiling, where I do not need it...
4) Do you think the 2524 ones would be able to radiate from that high up?

External Antenna for N Series 1252

Hello All,
Can someone please let me know which externally mounted antenna is the correct part to use with a AIR-AP1252 N-Series, (6dBm gain or more, its to cover a playing field)
I've been scouring the Cisco web site for days to find a definative answer and am getting confused.
Ideally it needs to cover both radio bands but if it only does 2.4Ghz, I'll settle for that as my life is ticking away.
Any idea on the wall mounts too.

Keep in mind that you can use any 2.4GHz antenna on the 1252. Some antennas have three cables for convenience, but in reality there are three individual antennas inside the casing. You can attain the same effect by purchasing three of the same kind of antenna and connecting them to the 1252.
The AIR-ANT2506 is a good outdoor antenna and would be fine for use with clients as long as it's installed close to the ground. Omnidirectional antennas are quite deceptive in how they work - they actually form a donut-type coverage that gets "squashed" as gain is increased. A 5.2dBm isn't too bad, but if you install it too high then the signal will go right over the heads of the users. I guess I mention all that to say that you shouldn't install it on a 20-foot pole on top of a roof. :)
To take full advantage of 802.11n, you'll need three antennas. Otherwise, one or two would suffice fine if you're in an 802.11g environment.

Antenna AIR-ANT2430V-R only for 1252 series??

The antenna was specifically developed for the 1252 APs because at the time the only 802.11n AP cisco offered was the 1252. They now have the 1260 series and the 3500 series APs. The thing to be aware of with antennas is: 1. do they have the right connectors and 2. are the tuned to the right frequency. I agree with Leolaohoo that you can use these antennas on any of the Cisco 802.11n APs.

Antenna Diversity - Diff Antennas for Transmit and Recieve

There is a wierd question wandering i my mind as I read abt Antenna Diversity.
- It eleminates multipath distortions
1. Now if we turn off diverity. Can I use one antenna for Transmit and the Other Antenna for Recive?
2. When We say Antenna Diversity, is it Transmit Diversity or Receive Diversity or both?

1. No, access points cannot use one for transmit and one for receive. The reason is that both antennas connect to the same radio, and the radio itself can only transmit or listen, never both at once.
2. Diversity is receive diversity. Transmitting the same signal twice would just make multipath worse :)
A few other points that should hopefully make things a bit clearer:
- Only one antenna is active at a time. The radio uses one to transmit a signal, and it flips between the two antennas very quickly while receiving.
- Diversity works by comparing two similar signals and seeing which one is stronger. The real advantage gained from diversity is the physical separation of the antennas. Since they're located in two different spots, the signal will vary between these two spots, and the AP can pick which one of these spots has the better signal at any given time.
- Diversity antennas should never be deployed to create two separate coverage areas. The two antennas should be identical, be deployed identically, and be intended to create a single coverage area. They should be as close together as possible, and they should be some multiplier of the frequency's wavelength. Using rubber duck antennas on a Cisco AP takes care of all of these points, but you need to keep them all in mind if you ever use detached antennas.

Roaming and 2.4 vs 5.0 on 1250 series AP design help

I will be upfront and honest and state that although I am familiar with some wireless technologies, most of this stuff is a mystery to me. I have done some homework and have researched quite a bit, but have ind of hit a wall.
I have been handed four Aironet 1250 series AP's all with the dual radio modules (2.4 and 5.0). I really need to use only one of the modules so that we can power it via POE and not enchanced POE (long story).
So, I need help with a design. Here's what I'd like to see.
1. I would like to setup "roaming" so that when a wireless client goes from one AP to another it is seamless to the user and the users NIC will associate with the strongest AP signal. Can I do this by simply setting the same SSID and security on each AP, or must I have a controller to do this?
2. Also, I cannot seem to get older legacy clients to communicate with the 5.0 Ghz radio module (they can’t even see it) but they work fine when I switch it out for the 2.4. I know this is a very noob question, but can the older clients (non N) work on the 5.0 module)
I have looked through a ton of documentation but there doesn’t seem to be a configuration guide that I can find for what I need to do.
That’s it. Can someone please have mercy on me and point me in the right direction? I will be looking in the mean time but I have a lot of unknowns. I think if I can get the two questions answered above, then I can mark as resolved and run with it.

1. Yes, the conditions for a proper roaming are : same SSID, same security settings, and the APs serving the same client subnet (so that client doesn't have to change its ip address).
This is sufficient for data, Fast roaming is required for applications like voice and you can then look into using cckm as key mechanism and configure one AP to act as WDS to centralize the roaming keys.
2. This is not related. 11n is available on both 2.4 and 5 ghz band. The question is if your old adapters are capable of 802.11a or not. 11a is the 54Mbps speed in the 5ghz band. I would guess they are not capable of it.
Adapters that are on laptop now are often "abgn" meaning they can do N speeds on both 2.4 and 5ghz band. An adapter that would be "bg" or "bgn" would typically be restricted to only 2.4 Ghz.

Here is the Cisco's answer for the question. What type of top speeds can you realistically get with 11n in the real world?
The answer is "it depends". The actual connection rate (at the physical layer) is dictated by the quality of the client's connection. This can be anywhere all the way up to 300 Mbps. Then, from that actual connection, your 'real' throughput is a bit lower. In a real world environment, the peak sustained throughput (per radio band) can be up to and well past the 100 Mbps mark. As with any wireless technology, mileage may vary based on myriad environmental and system variables. Look to 11n to provide a very significant throughput increase to existing 11a/b/g networks.

Diversity antenna systems ?

When using two AIR-ANT2506 antennas for a diversity antenna systems, how far apart should they be? I've seen 5", 5.5" 18" etc.

Note that cisco's view is not to go greater than 20" or 4 wavelengths. If you space your antennas greater you run a higher CHANCE of them effecting the performance of your wireless nodes. The cell of each antenna begins to be to far apart and the users start to see their connection dropping. The way i have calculated this is that cisco states you should not exceed 4 multiples of the wavelength... 4x5" = 20". =)
But this is also a thread from 2005 and i doubt the gentleman is still looking for an answer ;)

1310 with integrated antenna for 100M client conneciton

I would like to use as a AP to connect from my laptop which 100M away. Is it possible to use aironet 1310 with integrated antenna for this approach? Any experience?

Drill Down for Multiple Series in a Line Chart

I seem to have a problem with the drill-down functionality in a line chart that has multiple series.
I have a line chart that displays the readings of a patient over a period of 1 month. For each day, there is the glucose level reading, blood pressure reading, etc... So, each reading is a different series in my line chart graph.
The basic requirement is: With a mouse over event on the chart, I am willing to display all the data that belongs to that day. The data will be displayed at the bottom of the screen in a small panel. It is very simple to do it when the line chart has only 1 series:
i) Enable drill down.
ii) Choose 'Row' as insertion type.
iii) Fill out the destination field.
iv) Make sure your labels (at the bottom of the screen) get the data from the destination cell.
When there is more than one series, it becomes very difficult. XCelsius will not let me use the same destination cells for different series. So, I will have to use other destination cells. In that case, I will not know on which day is the user on. Is there any way to achieve this functionality?

This is certainly possible, but there's a bit of a trick to it (and really hard to explain without screenshots!). There's two halves to it:
1. Write the date that has been selected to a cell (for each series).
2. Write the name of the series that was clicked to some cell (this is the property 'Series Name Destination').
So let's say your three series are Glucose, Blood Pressure and Temp. Have those series names in B1,C1,D1 (with your dates down in column A). Insert a row below the series names (2:2), and then set up your insertion type for the chart as 'row'. The source data (for all three series) should be your list of dates in column a. The insertion cells for the three series will be, in order, B2,C2,D2. Now, depending on which point is clicked in the chart, the selected day will be inserted into one of those three cells. Completely useless unless you know which series was clicked.
So you need to insert the name of the series that was clicked ('Series Name Destination') into the spreadsheet, let's say in F1. The rest is just Excel formulas. The logic is, you can now tell what series was clicked, and go and look up the date that was inserted for that series, then go and look up the row that corresponds to that date. So to get the date that was just clicked, your formula (in F2) would be =HLOOKUP(F1,B1:D2,2,0).
Then a VLOOKUP will get the results from that row of data. For example, if I inserted another row at row 3 (to show my 'result' values) the formula in B3 would be =VLOOKUP($F$2,$A$4:$D$13,2,0).

Show DataTips for each series

Is there a way to customize the DataTips for each series in a
chart? I have a column chart that has a line series in it. The
columns display actual data, but the line shows an average.
Currently the datatips are set to show the column chart values,
even when a user hovers over a line chart datatip. Is there any way

data?
I know I could create a DataTipFormatter that included both

All music and other things on itouch GONE except for one series of podcasts

I need help!
My computer is low on memory, but I didn't think that would mess up me connecting my iPod touch to my computer. After connecting it, I did not look at my library, but later when I went to listen to something ALL my music, playlists, proof of purchases, were gone, except for one series of podcasts. I decided to connect my iPod to the computer again to see if I could igure out what was going on, and I got a thing that said I was using the iPod on a different account! confused it asked me if I wanted to get my purchased music switched over, so my sister suggested doing that, and so they are back on Itunes, but my computer is having problems because of low memory, so I haven't been able to get it to sync. (I have not tried a lot yet)
can anyone help me? All my apps are there. It's just the music.

When it asked if I wanted to transfer or erase or sync, I chose to transfer purchases, and ALL my music, including not purchased (CD's I had put on there) came back. ALL my music is back! Problem solved!

Function returning SQL query for mutiple series in a chart

I would like to know if there is a way to specify a single PL/SQL function returning the queries for multiple series in a 2D Line Flash Chart. I have multiple series in my chart that has different values in the where clause. I can write a PL/SQL function that can return all these queries in one shot. Is there anyway that I can specify this function as returning the queries for all the series in the chart?
As an example, assume that I am using the following three queries for the series in my chart:
select deptno, count(*) from emp where deptno = 10 group by deptno
select deptno, count(*) from emp where deptno = 20 group by deptno
select deptno, count(*) from emp where deptno = 30 group by deptno
I can't write a PL/SQL function that returns a query in the multiple series syntax (SELECT link, label, series_1_value [, series_2_value [, ...]]FROM ...) as I am using an aggregate function and my where clause is different for each series.

Thanks for your reply. I am already using an analytical function (RATIO_TO_REPORT(COUNT(*)) OVER () ) in my actual report. My problem is that the query for one series differs from the other only in one where clause. I will be able to dynamically able to generate all the queries for all the series in one pl/sql function. But the chart definition screen does not allow us to define a single function that returns queries for the all the series - possibly seperated by some seperator like S1: select.... S2:select and so on.
