Divide Scanned Photos: possible to salvage when background is white?

Hi!  I think Divide Scanned Photos feature is amazing!
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/cropping.html#divide_a_scanned_image_conta ining_multiple_photos
for those scans I put black construction paper in the rear, it works like a charm.
however, my mom scanned multiple photos prior to us finding Elements and did not use a dark background.
Is there any way to salvage this or is it too late?
when we attempt to Divide Scanned Photos on a set of B&W photos with a white background, no luck.
PSE11 just spits out a copy of the same photo

Hi ,
If PSE only make a copy of the original image it means it does not able to find the edges.
It should be scanned with dark background which clearly alienated the images seperately .
you can try "divide scan photos" feature after increasing the resolution of the image .
1)Go to Image menu >> resize >> Image size
2)check on the resample check box.
3)Increase the resolution .
4)try again "Divide scan Photos"
if still it does not do anything , try to seperate the images using selection > layer via cut , crop etc .
thanks,

  • Elements 11 Divide Scanned Photos Function, can it work with scanner cover open?

I do a lot of scanning of where three items fit on the platen at one time. In the previous versions of Element this function worked, not automatically, but it worked with the cover open or closed, and it is much faster to scan with the cover open.
Is there some way I can adjust the sensitity of this function to be more sensitive or less senstive to backround color?
    Thanks in advance,
    jj

    Hi ,
There is no option of changing sensitivity of Background color option in Divide scan photos In E11.
But one thing - Divide scanned photos works based on image resolution, so if your scanner output resolution is high , it works too sensitive and if output resolution is low it works less sensitive.

  • PSE 11 Divide Scanned Photos is not active

I scanned a number of photos and when I went into editor>image and the divide scanned photos was not an active choice.  It was on the menu but I couldn't select it.  I scanned a number of times to include setting the pictures at an angle just to be sure it could be detected.  It used to work in PSE 9
I am using an HP office jet Pro 8600 premium.
    OS is windows 7

That was absolutely the correct answer.  I was in Quick mode.  In Expert mode, it works but not as well as in PSE9.  I really have to off set the photos to get them picked up separately.  I just need to experiment more.
    Thanks for the help

  • Is Divide Scanned Photos disabled in Elements 11 Trial?

Is Divide Scanned Photos disabled in Elements 11 Trial?
    Thanks
    jj

Thanks, I had been using Elements 5 and just upgraded to Win7.Using the same scanner on XP and 5 I could divide scanned photos even if I left the scanner cover up. In 11 I have not been able to do that...I do a high volume of scanning so I like not to have to put the top down.
Using Document Color Auto Detect Multiple and with the cover down, 11 automatically divided scanned photos, but not with other settings, but 5 did not automatically divide.

  • Divide scanned photos

There seems to be a menu option to "divide scanned photos". However, there doesn't actually seem to be any help to do so.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

To start it you need to make a single scan of multiple photos. For best results skew them at an angle from each other.
You then use the divide feature and it will create separate straightened versions of each photo.

  • After divide scanned photos, can I move all images directly to power point

I am scanning photos to do "This is my life".  After I scan four or five, I open and divide into separate photos using photo program.  I would like to then take all five to power point.  I have tried using control to make all of them, but I have to move them one by one.  Is there a way to do it collectively and then edit on the power point page?

From within PowerPoint, click Insert, then click the picture icon, this brings up the Insert Picture dialog box.  Normally, you would double click on a single picture to insert it.  However, you can insert many pictures at a time by single clicking on the first one, then hold down the cntrl key, and choose other images, as many as you want.  When you have them all selected, let go of the cntrl key and click on the Insert bar.

  • Dividing Scanned Photos

WIN XP, PSE4.0, Epson Perfection 1240U Scanner. When scanning more that one picture at a time with this scanner into PSE4, the Divide function in the editor dose not separate them into separate pictures. Is there a compatibility issue with the scanner or the twain software used by it? Fix?

    Charlie....
To divide multiple pictures on a single scan, the editor needs to find some decent white space between them. Ensure they are spaced apart and even try putting them at slight angles.

  • Dividing scanned photos on one scan

I was using PSE6 and just installed PSE12.  I work alot with pictures and the option in editor/image to divide multiple photos in one scan does not work.  It is pale in print and does not have an arrow like the other choices.
I have a HP PC using Windows 7 and a scanner that worked just fine, Canon LIDE.

You need to be in Expert mode.

  • Possible to have black background iso white?

Just got my Nano-8GB and I'm very pleased with it.
One question however, especially for 'Cover Flow':
Is it possible to have a black background instead of white (so white text + pics on black)?
Next that its seems nicer with pictures (also better contrast) it also heavely reduces battery drain because 'white' requires more power'.
    With regards,
    EiSl

As with the post above mine, it is true that regardless of what color scheme is being used it will still use the same amount of power to light to screen. The actual setting of the brightness effects battery life though.
With this being my first ipod, and my first non-cd based mp3 player I have ever had, I was actually expecting a more customizable UI. Now I know this is no phone, but my phone allows me to select different color schemes and I can even use the computer to design new ones from scratch of literally any color combination I want. Also basically any phone that supports pictures lets you set pictures as wallpapers, where the photos on the ipod I cannot figure out if you can even do that. The photos are just there to look at if you go to the photo menu? Not really the most useful thing in the world there for me.
I'd also like the option to remove the giant grey music note taking up half the screen on the 'now playing' screen when I don't have any cover art. I am shocked by a extreme lack of settings, but I guess I was just expecting too much~!
Would be sweet to have some sort of theme manager in iTunes.

  • Auto-Cropping gang-scanned photos! HELP

I need help figuring out how to correctly divide scanned photos automaticly. Photoshop Elements 10 had a preset to do this but everytime we go to use it, it crops them wrong. This is the sole reason we purchased Photoshop Elements 10. It's cropping right down the center of the photos. Can someone please help, we've been working on this for days! Thanks

Try putting the photos more crooked on the scanner bed, and if they're very faded and pale, try putting a contrasting background behind them before you scan them. Also try a different arrangement. Something is preventing PSE from seing the edges properly.
Incidentally, many scanner drivers have the ability to do this these days, sometimes better than PSE can. If you strike out again with PSE, see if the scanner can do it for you.

  • Separating scanned photos Photoshop Elements 12

When I scan multiple photos and go to "images,"  "Divide Scanned Photos" is not highlighted and won't work. It worked for me a few days ago, so I must be doing something wrong. How can I correct this problem? Thanks.

Are you in the Expert mode?

  • Split Apart Scanned Photos Automatically

There is a similar issue here: Break apart photos automatically, but I figured I might get better luck posting a new post than replying on one that is over 8 years old.
Anyways, I have an Epson Perfection 600 Flat Bed Scanner. The Epson scanner software allows you to scan in multiple individual photos at once. (I put like 6-8 photos on the glass, and it automatically separates them) I thought I could do the same thing with either Photoshop Elements (I have version 12) and/or Photoshop Organizer. I can scan using the Organizer software, but it only scans as one full image and does not separate them into individual images. I can then edit them using Photoshop Elements by clicking Image, then Divide Scanned Photos. It will do it, but I recall that I used to be able to do that whole function in the organizer software. I haven't used Photoshop for a while, so I actually cannot remember the exact steps I used to use. I thought used to automatically seperate them upon scanning them into the organizer software.
Is there some settings I need to change somewhere? Plug-in?
Please help! I have 10,000+ photos that I need to scan in quick and easy. Thanks!

I’m not sure how this would work in Organizer. As far as I know it has always been done in the Editor. Click the menu bar:
    Image >> Divide Scanned Photos
N.B. it is often not perfect and requires a good degree of separation to begin with, but from the Editor you can use the crop tool where necessary.

  • Can the process multiple pictures tool work with the divide scanned pictures tool?

A friend scanned a few dozen photo's & asked me to make them into a  slide show.  The problem is that the 4x6 photos were scanned onto A4 size & not put squarely onto the scanner.  This means that the pictures are not only at the wrong angle but all have to be rotated. to different degree.
I know that I can use the divide scanned photos tool to crop them one at a time.  Is there any way to use the process multiple picture to do all pf these pictures in one batch & perhaps have it also do an autofix at the same time?

  • Black thumbnails when importing scanned photos

Recently began a large scanning project using an Epson V200 scanner, Image Capture, and iPhoto 8. Worked fine for over 200 black and white photos, but suddenly iPhoto began creating (mostly) black thumbnails with traces of color (even though I am scanning black and white photos). Clicking on the photo when in iPhoto causes it to act like a negative version of the photo. Preview can load and view the scanned photo just fine, so the file seems OK.
Just tried a smaller color photo; scan and import worked fine.
    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

    TD:
Sure enough, it worked; (re?)set Image Capture to do 'Color' even though I am scanning black and white, and it works now. Assume it got toggled to black and white somehow (dont remember doing that, but possible, I guess), as all previous black and white photos I checked have the RGB profile. Fun with computers...?
Thanks for your very quick response; great work and much appreciated.

  • Using Photoshop elements 11 on a PC, when I put new photo on screen to edit the background goes to black which messes me up when making a thumbnail that has black background.  How do I get the background to white as it was originally?

Using Adobe photoshop elements 11 on a PC.  When I put a photo up to edit the background on the page goes black.  I need it to go back to white to do a thumbnail that has black background so I can see it.  How do I do that.  It used to be white on the background.  Don't know how I got it all black. Can you help?

If you mean by "background" the blank work area that presents when you open the Editor, then right click on it and reset to white.
If I have this wrong, please rephrase your inquiry.
