DiVX Codec causing unsupported file.

Scenario 1- I have Divx (codec only) installed on the Windows 7 PC that i stream movies from to my TV.  A lot of different files will not launch and kick out the unsupported file type when I select them for play on my TV.
Scenario 2- I do not have Divx installed and can play all of my videos on my TV.
So this prompts me to ask...  What do the codecs being installed on my PC have to do with video files that are streamed over my network.
Anyone?

I've run into this in the last couple days while using the retouch tool extensively with the loupe enabled. My solution has been to quit Aperture about every 30-45 minutes.
There may be a memory problem. I have 5G of memory but also have several applications open simultaneously; PowerMail, Safari, and TextEdit. I haven't tried closing all applications while editing. I have over 54,000 photos in my Aperture library - only about 50 are referenced.
I don't usually do portrait photography but the company I work for asked me to do all the staff photos after a disappointment with the professional photographer hired. Other photos I've edited in Aperture haven't required much editing. If this is a memory issue, I guess it is something I can muddle through for this project and make sure I don't take on a lot of portrait photos until I add additional RAM again this winter.
I've just filed a bug report with Apple but don't expect I'll get a response.

  • Elements problem after divx codec install

    hi all,
I am having an interresting problem and I am hoping someone can give me some advice.
I have been running Premiere Elements 8 for a while and a it has been working fine. a few days ago I tried to install the divx codec. Now I open Premiere Elements and it will open, load my project, then minimize and I can not get it to restore.
I have uninstalled divx but no luck.
I also did a windows system restore to a previous state but had no luck there either.
    I am running Windows 7 64 Bit.
on a quad core Intel Q6700 processor
    intel motherboard
    8 GB of Ram
ATI FirePro V4800 (FireGL) Video card
    dual monitor.
I am suspecting the codec updated a driver somewhere  that is causing a conflict.
I had similar problems with Photoshop elements 8 and had to disable my twain drivers to get it to work.
any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks;

    Welcome to the forum.
I have used the DivX CODEC, plus the DivX Pro Encoder for years, with zero issues, until the most recent update of DivX with both its CODEC and its player. Did not update the DivX Pro Encoder.
First, these problems have not affected PrE 4.0, running on XP-Pro SP3, so there ARE many differences to your setup. With those differences, I am not at all sure that my observations will apply to your installation and your system.
The only problem that I encountered was that the DivX player seized the File Type Associations for all AVI's, so that Dbl-clicking on any, would always Open them in the DivX player. The new one is filled with ads for all sorts of things, and reminds me of the old RealPlayer from years ago. Also, those ad often lead to a dead-end, from which the only recourse is to buy whatever the ad features, or go to Task Manager and Kill the process - really, really bad move DivX. All it took was going to Control Panel>Folder Options>File Type and changing the AVI associations back to my desired player, MediaPlayer Classic HC. Fixed.
That was my only issue with any version of the DivX CODEC, or the DivX player. Still, I made note of it.
That does not mean that on your system, and with PrE 8, something in there might not have broken.
I would check the file associations in Control Panel, and reset any, that DivX Player might have changed, then test.
While you are at it, also update both your video driver and your audio driver, from their mfgr. Web site.
Good luck, and maybe others will have tips or suggestions.

  • Latest DivX codec 6.0.5

Link to latest DivX codec for Mac. It says beta but is just an update to work with Universal. It also seems to correct bug that some .wmv files still wouldn't play correctly with Flip4Mac v2.0.1 and DivX 6. These are files that did play under the Fusion Beta DivX codec.

    Hi David!
Yes, you will be able to view and edit the files.
The official Casio component causes weird slow-downs opening avi files with certain types of video encoding and it will also conflict with the DivX component. I highly recommend the unofficial EX_M4S2 codec instead, which has been tested with several models of Casio cameras including the S500.
    http://emonkid.hp.infoseek.co.jp/EXM4S2/indexe.html
You may also find that Flip4Mac WMV Player provides support for your videos as well.
You should also download MPEG Streamclip for the Save as AVI component which is included in the Extras folder. That component allows saving video and audio into avi files without re-encoding although it has limitations of course which are discussed in the Read Me file.

  • Can no longer send pictures in text that I once did. "Unsupported file type"

The other day my phone began saying I could not longer send pictures in MMS. Pictures I sent the previous week are now an unsupport file type.  They are .jpg and .pngs.  I have to take a screenshot of them all now, crop out the excess stuff, and then send them.

Taking a screenshot or cropping will tell nothing  .mov or .wmv format for example looks the same, one is supported by Apple QuickTime the other with Microsoft Windows Media Player, it's all in the codec. What is the exact file type? Or in what format were they saved and with what?

  • Unsupported file type: broken reference movie in ...

This happened to me today, and I wanted to record this for search engines to find. It's probably a rare event and hopefully, dear reader, it will not happen to you.
So I import my FCE movie into iDVD, and iDVD tells me, "Unsupported file type: broken reference movie in (filename)", and won't import it. Okay, this movie is not self-contained, so let's export it again and see if that fixes things. No such luck. Other things I tried which did not help:
    * Exported movie both as a self-contained movie and a not self-contained movie.
    * Tried cleaning all FCE render files and rebuilding.
    * Looking through system logs with Console app.
    * Quit/restart iDVD.
    * Rebooting.
    * Seems that a LiveType fragment in FCE was not rendered completely for some reason. I drill down to find the red-lined unrendered fragments and render them. Then I drill down futher and find more. I render them all.
After a while, I notice that QuickTime Player can play the movie just fine, and I begin to doubt that I understand what "broken reference" means.
I finally try exporting the movie from FCE to a different filename. iDVD is OK with that! What's in a name? Something has remembered that the filename itself is bad. Must hunt down the cause....
Looks like some bad data is stored in the /Users/YOUR-NAME/Library/Caches/com.apple.idvd plist. It says the 'isValid' property for this filename is 'No'. That can't be good. I removed the entry for the troublesome filename with Property List Editor (developers have this) and restarted iDVD. That fixed it!
Those without Property List Editor can delete com.apple.idvd -- it's a cache, and iDVD will create a new one. Actually, a better practice is to rename the file until you're sure you haven't seriously broken iDVD.

I'm thinking I likely would have deleted both preference files. The one for iDvd as well as FCE and then started over with a fresh export of the QT ref. movie from FCE => iDvd
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
    com.apple.FinalCutExpress.plist
That is i'm guessing this is the correct plist for FCE since mine reads:
    com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    lastly, i'd do this:

  • DivX codec not recognized

I have recently installed Premiere Elements 10.  I went to import videos from a folder and I get this error "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."  After searching around the internet I installed the DivX codec (from their website).  How do I get PE10 to recognize this codec??

    Welcome to the forum.
DivX is seldom supported, but some users claim success Importing some flavors of it into PrE.
I just convert DivX, which is a streaming-delivery format, to DV-AVI, or other format, in a conversion program. I use the older DigitalMedia Converter 2.7.
    Good luck,

  • DivX Codec

I am in quite a pickle. I have a digital camera that records video in AVI format, which needs the DivX codec to be played. I think that the audio is recorded in MPEG, I'm not sure. Anyway, without the DivX codec, Quicktime will display a white screen, with the audio only. After I install the DivX codec, Quicktime displays the video, but no sound! How can I get Quicktime to play a DivX AVI with both video and sound? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I've installed Perian, and it does the same thing as when I installed DivX. Video, but no sound. I viewed the properties of a video file, and it appears that the video is recorded in XviD, with MP2 for audio. Does Quiktime not play MP2s, or am I doing something wrong?

  • Problem installing DivX codec on Nokia 500

I have a nokia 500. I'm trying to install DivX codec to play HD Video files. But when I install DivX player, I can't go to main menu. The main menu turns down.
Have anyone tried installing DivX codec or any other codec on nokia 500 to play HD Videos? Please help me. Please tell me which codec or player is fully supported by Nokia 500. I've searched a lot about players and codecs on nokia 500. But nothing found.
I need to play High Quality AVI, MP4, MPG and FLV files. Please suggest me any player that supported by nokia 500.
By the way, I'm using the latest Belle Refresh(111.021.0028) on my nokia 500.
    Thanks in advance.

There is no graphics chip upon 500 which is responsible for such problems.

  • Codec Problems/ avi. files

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to fix this problem for a while now, but with no suitable solution.
    Here is the thing:
I've been using Premiere CS 6 (Version 6.0.3) on my Windows 7, 64bit PC, quite a while now and it normally works like a charm,
but when I try to import certain .avi files, which I recorded with a camcorder, it keeps telling me, that the format is not supported.
I already tried it with severeal clips, but no luck there.
The thing is, if I try it on a friends Macbook it works fine and imports without and error message (she also uses Premiere CS 6).
So, I figured there must be something wrong with the codecs.
I tried to install different things to make it work, for example the whole divx codecs and the avid codecs, but nothing seems to work.
I ran one of the videos through GSpot, which tells me, that all the needed codecs are installed, but I really can't get the videos to work in Premiere.
Is there anyone who might help me with this issue or has the same problem?
I would be very, very thankful if anybody could help me solve this.

You sure about that?  I'm not aware of any cameras that record H.264 to an AVI file.  It's about 90% MP4 and maybe 10% QuickTime.
That suggests you're not playing with camera original media here, but something that's been converted.  If so, you may want to get your hands on the originals.
It is the original data from the camera, thats what I find confusing about the whole situation.
I am really thankful for your help, but somehow I can't understand why a professional tool like Premiere can't handle H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
There must be another way for a windows pc to get it to work, even if the converting is an option.
As I said before, I tested it on a mac with Premiere CS 6 and it imports like a charm.

  • My raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 had for one year. Never happened before.

my raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 camera shooting RAW had for one year. Never happened before.
Can only load the files in by running them trhough Adobe Camera RAW first and loading them as TIFFS into Aperture. JPEGs form the Sony load into Aperture just fine. Have repaired datebase, permissions ect but no change. Aperture 3.4.5 on a Power Mac. Whats up? Anyone know?

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.

  • QuickTime alternative DivX codec

    Greetings!
I'm dealing with an application that handles movies. The movies I'm currently working on are DivX movies with a “.avi” extension (they are not commercial movies, just some I converted from my camera).
I've installed the DivX 6 Decoder component found in Apple's Codecs page, but it shows the “DivX” logo at the bottom right corner of the movie for several seconds. My movies application, which relies on QuickTime, includes this logo in the final movie and it's, of course, not what I want.
Back in Leopard time, this DivX 6 Decoder component did not include the DivX logo, so I've tried replacing the newer (on my Lion system) by the older (in /Library/QuickTime) but now, QuickTime-related applications randomly crash (including QuickLook). This isn't unexpected, but at least I can transform my movies without this DivX logo.
Now, I'm wondering: could I find a DivX 6 Decoder component that doesn't display the DivX logo in the movie? Other components, like for MPEG or AppleIntermediateCodec, for example, don't make this.

    You can try Perian:
    http://perian.org
Remove the DivX codec first; they cannot coexist without problems. That might decode your DivX files and allow you to export them without the watermark, though I don't know if all versions of DivX are supported.
That's weird, as I already have perian (since several years). Perhaps I should never had to install “DivX Decoder” in the first place (they interfer with each other, as you point out)? Or perhaps Perian doesn't handle my specific files…
    varjak paw wrote:
If not and you don't want to deal with an external converter, then paying for the Pro codec may be your only other option. This isn't uncommon with codec developers; they provide a playback-only codec for free but if you want to export or convert the format you have to pay. Check with DivX to be sure.
Ok. What I don't understand is why my converter (VisualHub) made DivX files if DivX is so “commercial” (=whose no free Codec exist which don't add watermarks). I just chose the “Avi” option, not DivX.
    Thank you.

  • Red Unsupported File with PSD

    Hi folks,
I'm struggling with an odd situation. Imported and Nikon NEF (D200) and then edited it in PSD CS4. Created about 5 layers and saved the image. Preview loaded in Aperture (2.1.3) but when I went to export it, the preview went gray and Aperture told me it was an unsupported file type. When I tried to open in in Ap, I get a red warning telling me the same thing. However, I can edit it in PS4 and all layers come up again.
I've saved a copy outside of Ap to keep from losing the work, but the only way I can get Ap to recognize the file was to flatten it.
All other images with layers and from same shooting are working fine.
    A corrupted file or?
    Thanks for any help.

    Glad that you found that.
For Video, the PSD's need to be RGB, and not CMYK or Intexed Color. They need to be 8-bit. Paths can cause issues, though not always, and the same for Smart Objects (some work fine, and others muck things up???). Often, tiny pixel counts in a Layer (think something very small, like a logo, in a much larger Image), can cause issues.
    Good luck,

  • Quicktime cannot detect divx codec

When I try to run avi files quicktime says that I need to download the divx codec in order for them to work properly. However I have the latest divx installed, and therefore it appears that the programme simply cannot detect it. In the movie inspector they are listed as dx50 type files, if that helps. They play fine in windows media player which also requires the codec so im assuming that its just quicktime messing around. Any help greatly appreciated

Also if you go to http://www.divx.com/en/win and sroll to the bottom of the page and click on Support>Search FAQ's and type in QuickTime where it shows Enter Keyword:, You'll see a Using QuickTime for playback. Which explains Divx does not work with QT for Windows. Myself not a clue I don't have a Divx but it is their own website.

  • AVI and DIVX codec

    I all,
In my director movie i need to put a movie galery. One of
them movie are in DivX conversion, so i need to be installed a divx
codec in my PC. Are any way to include one xtra do this codec, to
garatee that the video runs in all PCs?
    Greetings.
    Rodrigo

    Mike,
You might want to take a look at the file closely, and then decide if you wish to edit it. Know, that if you go to DVD, or any compressed format/CODEC, after the edit, there will be another quality hit.
There are CODEC's that are basically used to play a file, and then those that play, plus allow editing. DivX and Xvid, are in the former group. There could be some editors that will edit DivX, but I do not know of them. PrPro cannot effectively use the DivX CODEC to edit. Some have gotten very lucky, once the CODEC is installed, but usually one looses either the Video, or the Audio. In the cases, where it worked, OOS issues were almost always present.
    Good luck,
