DivX components REALLY universal???

Hi all, a tricky one here:
I have some strange issues with some DivX files (Video track is DivX 3.11 and audio track is MPEG Layer-3 Audio stereo, 44.1 kHz)
I know "old" PPC codecs will need QuickTime to run under Rosetta to work, but the strange thing here is that I have the latest DivX 6.5 installed with the 6.22 codec which is universal. Opening these DivX files in Quicktime or any app relying on QuickTime, will play the audio only and a black screen. When I check the Rosetta box in QuickTime's Info window and open the video file again, it plays fine. Converting it is painfully slow however, because it runs under Rosetta.
These are the components installed:
FCP Uncompressed 422.component
DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
DVCPROHDMuxer.component
DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component
DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component
XviD_Codec-r58 (Intel).component
DVCPROHDCodec.component
DesktopVideoOut.component
AviImporter-r7 (Intel).component
AppleIntermediateCodec.component
LiveType.component
DivX Decoder.component
IMXCodec.component
DivX Encoder.component
AppleHDVCodec.component
DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
ALL of these are Universal!! What's up?? Is the latest DivX component not universal after all???
Intel iMac 2gHz/500/2GB/20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
Intel iMac 2gHz/500/2GB/20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

And on that note - everyone needs to get up-to-speed on how to pull out a minute or so of your troublesome videos and uoload them up to a free third-party host like www.rapidshare.de. It's easy to do, and then people with like-minded systems can download your videos and help with a solution.

  • Universal PS driver not really universal?

In setting up a print server, we are finding that the HP Universal PS driver doesn't work on several models of printer that claim should be compatible.  We want to use the PS driver because we are a cross platfom shop, and have seen time and again that printing from a Mac (which only uses PS) to a Windows server using PCL does not work.  The following printer models don't work properly with the Universal PS despite listing that they should.  In each case they spit an error page instead of or in addition to the print, and in most cases there is only random jibberish no actual error type listed.

I have been unable to find any helpful information about getting PS drivers to work on these or any HP printer that does not list a model specific PS driver but rather PCL drivers.  The only suggestion of note was ensuring firmware is up to date, which we have done.  I'm hoping that there are options in the so called universal driver that can be toggled in a way to make them actually work, which obviously should be documented but I see no evidence of.  I have found a ton of posts from other users with this same issue on these and other models, with no resolution other than not using the PS driver, which again simply is not an answer or option for us.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ebonweaver,
I understand your concerns. Unfortunately, for these type of printers, I need to direct you to our Enterprise Business Community Forums. This will be the right section to troubleshoot this issue.
    Good luck.

  • Is the DNG format really 'universal'?

I have just aquired a new camera - the Panasonic GX7. Unfortunately Aperture does not yet support its RAW files.
As a workaround I downloaded the Adobe DNG converter in the belief that the DNG format could be imported into Aperture. The converter lists a range of output options from Camera RAW 2.1 up to 7.1. None work with Aperture 3.4.5.
It would seem that DNG compatibility is very dependant on the original source file. DNGs from some cameras work in Aperture while others do not. I know some people blame Apple for this but surely the problem is that the DNG format is not standard. A standard PDF can be read by any PDF reader but it seems there is no such thing as a 'standard DNG'. Is this a reasonable assessment of the situation?
    cheers
    Bruce

I think, you got it right, Bruce.
The dng generated from a camera can be camera-specific and Aperture does not support them all: see the footnotes in this document.
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
Aperture also lets you work with most DNG files.1
Aperture works with most DNG files generated from cameras that support this format and with DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the “Convert to Linear Image” option turned off.
It appears to be random, if Adobe's dng converter will work. I used to be able to convert the raw from my camera to a dng that Aperture can import, but since the last update to dng-converter does that no longer work.  The older dngs are fine.

  • How to copy Two universes into a Single universe

    Hi ,
I am working on SAP BO 3.1 Designer ,
I have three universes namely A,B& C which are pointing to same data base and with the same connection
now I would like to combine the universes
can u please suggest me on this..
I would like to have the components of Universe A & B. in universe C..
    Thanks In Advance..

    Hi,
I think, you are asking for the linking of multiple universes into a single universe and this is compatible with SAP BO 3.1 Designer
Steps to Link Multiple Universes to a Single Universe with same Database and Connection
    1. Create a Universe A (for instance) with proper parameters mentioning the Database and Valid Connections
    2. Go to File >> Parameters >> Links tab and then Click Add Link
    3. Then point the Universe B you wish to link
    4. Similarly add a link to the other Universe C and then export the the Universe after saving to the repository.
** These universes are dynamically linked to the universe and the Objects, classes will be made available.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • BOE XI 3.1 - Universe Designer Installation

    Guys,
Is it possible to get the UNIVERSE DESIGNER setup (Package) alone instead of go with BOE full installation package?
I have the BOE installation full package.
Every time i am installing the Designer in below way to my users,
Custom/Expand installation --> Deselect all the client components; Select "Universe Designer" --> Install Designer
I want to make the installation in easy way.
I found that 'Web Intelligence Rich Client" Client Package is available in ALONE as well as in BOE FULL Installation Package.
i can install this 'Web Intelligence Rich Client' in either way.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kiruba v.r.

    Hi Simon,
I know this process. Even i am doing the same to my users machine.
But i am looking for 'Universe Designer' individual client package as like 'Web Intelligence Rich Client'.
Note: I am not getting any error message.

  • DivX upgrade corrupted quicktime AVI playing ability

I recently upgraded my DivX player and converter, after doing this my Quicktime player stopped playing AVI files. which is probably a good 85% of my videos and movies which i cant get to reformat to Mp4, MPEG or any of the other formats that it will play. Anyone have this happen before or have an idea of how to fix. and yes i have already tried to uninstall all the DivX components and it didn't resolve the issue at all.

and yes i have already tried to uninstall all the DivX components and it didn't resolve the issue at all.
Was QT 7 closed while you did this? QT 7 initializes the codec list each time the player is opened. So if the player was open while you uninstalled the codecs, the the changes would not be recognized.
Anyone have this happen before or have an idea of how to fix.
If you have the Perian package installed and had no previous codec conflict problems with the older DivX component, you might also try removing and reinstalling the Perian package. Some users have reported that DivX and Perian codec components may conflict with one another when installed in one relative order but not another. I.e., it appears the order in which codec components are initialized may or may not create problems.
I recently upgraded my DivX player and converter, after doing this my Quicktime player stopped playing AVI files. which is probably a good 85% of my videos and movies which i cant get to reformat to Mp4, MPEG or any of the other formats that it will play.
Have you tried using the free HandBrake utility to convert your AVI files to MPEG-4/MPEG-4 AVC in MP4 and/or M4V file containers?

  • Every time I open iMovie, the program doesn't respond. The Wheel comes up and I have to force quit. Can anyone help me figure this out so I can work on projects? if it helps, I'm running OS 10.5.8

Hi, My iMovie program stops responding upon opening.  I can't figure it out.  I haven't really used it in the past but I would like to start.  My Mac is one of those aluminum Macbooks that look like a macbook pro and were on the market for a little bit.  I'm running OS 10.5.8 and its on the most recent update for the operating system.  I don't know how to correct the glitch. Any help would be great! Thanks
    -E

OK, you have iMovie 08, which is also known is iMovie Version 7.1.4. It has been a few years since i used this version, so this is based on memory.
The only components you must have in the Library/QuickTime folder are the AppleIntermediateCodec.component and the AppleMPEG2Codec.component.
All the others could potentially be causing problems. I would drag the DivX components, the Flip4Mac components, and the Google Camera components to the Desktop temporarily, so nothing is left in this folder except the two Apple components.
Then restart your Mac and start iMovie. If it works, yay!
If you still need these other components for some other app, you can probably get updated DivX components for free at Perian.org.
You can get updated Flip4Mac components by running WMV Player and updating. It should prompt you to update automatically.
I am not sure about the Google components, but if you are running something that needs them, it should prompt you to install the current versions.
If none of that works, post back.

  • No Audio on MPEG-1 files since upgrade to 7.0.2

I recently upgraded to QT 7.0.2 as well as having to re-install DVD Studio Pro 3 (and did them in that order). I have QT Pro.
Since then I can't hear any audio from Muxed MPEG1 files (so, lot's of stuff online) although the EQ meter in Quicktime is still registering the sound. Additionally, the MPEG1 files playback really choppy and usually freeze (the image quality looks a bit rough too).
    All other formats are fine.
I do have some DivX components, but had removed them. FYI, this is the list of components installed (including the DivX ones):
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AC3 Codec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 5.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    FFusion.component
    LiveType.component
    Toast Video CD Support.qtx
    I have so far tried:
Using the 7.0.1 re-installer (no joy there)
    Re-updating again to 7.0.2
Removing the DivX components (no joy there)
Ensuring the Pro Apps update was installed (fixed another bug in DVDSP, but not the MPEG1 issue)
Ensuring the latest update of DVDSP 3 (don't have the need for 4).
Anyone got any ideas? It's a real pain.
(My next thing will be to roll back to QT 6) and work my way up again.

    For me the fix worked at the 64KHz - 2ch/24bit setting (iMac G5, 1.8GHz, 768MB RAM, QT7.0.3).
But, I must say, it's quite unacceptable on Apple's part not to make sure to notify those who update to 7.x.x in good faith and trust that there is this tiny change needed in some settings. I spent several hours downloading re-installers, trying to roll back to QT6.5.2, and then this wouldn't work, and I had to go back up, download third-party software to use with my muxed mpg's, and, while doing all this, suffer my first real (and frightening...) black-screen crash after more than a year of use.

  • IMovie creates weird frame flickering on export only -- please help!!

Hello iMovie experts.. Need your advise!!!!!
I've been using iMovie 11 for some time now... Had no issues... All of a sudden a few days ago,
after I already burnt a disk, i noticed blinking in the clip where I had a 'Dream' video effect...
I opened the exported mov file, and the blinking is there.... So I went to the project, no issues, - the clip that
has the effect plays good, no 'flickering'..
As soon as I export it -- on the clip where i apply a video effect, every second or so I see a black frame, or the blurred frame, or a frame as if the
effect wasn’t applied to that clip.......
I tried exporting via almost everything... Export Movie, Export to QuickTime (no compressions, mp4, h264, etc), ... same thing
is happening over and over...  I tried removing the Preference file from User\Library\Preferences file, but it did not help..
I also tried duplicating a project. What happened was, the problem did not go away, but on top of that, it created about
10 minutes of black video towards the end of the movie...... ?!?!?!?!?!
I also removed Flip4Mac and Divx components... no luck...
Can anyone suggest anything please??  thanks!
    Running latest Snow Leopard update...

You know, i optimized a video once, and it was very jerky when it played at about 40% speed (slow-motion), vs. when I import non-optimized..
I dont want to jump the gun yet, as the below doesnt really make sense, at least to me, BUT......
What I noticed is that the flickering of the clips with applied effects only happens when there an opening
transition in the very beginning of the project..  I placed a "fade-in" transition in the beginning so that the video  fades in as it starts....  As soon as i removed it.. it exports fine, no flickering, no nothing, back to normal..
.... I also tried a few new small projects with and without the transition in the beginning and I would get the same pattern after export:  with a trans in the beginning of the clip with video effect, -- it would blink after being exported.. As soon as beginning trans removed -- back to normal..    I know... i doesnt make sense...
I wonder if you can produce this:
[fade in trans] [normal clip] [clip with Dream effect] [some other trans] [clip with some other Effect]
    and
[normal clip] [clip with Dream effect] [some other trans] [clip with some other Effect]
Thoughts??  I am scratching my head now!

  • Itunes won't open, spotlight disappeared & no sound from QT

    Hi there,
I was browsing the web using Safari 3.0.3 and listening to music using itunes. Safari froze for some reason, this then seemed to affect play back in itunes. I waited for a while then looked at Force Quit, Safari was not responding, so I closed that. itunes then would not respond (although it was not highlighted red in force quit), I then had the menu come up telling me I had to shutdown using the power button.
Once I had restarted my PB; itunes would not start, it just hops in the dock once then nothing; Quicktime opens but there is no audio output; there is no audio for streamed media on Safari or Firefox and I have lost spotlight and all the other icons at the top right of the menu bar, bluetooth, date & time etc.
Audio hardware is ok, I can still get playback from Logic Pro. I have tried repairing permissions. Apart from that I'm at a loss, this is the first major issue I've had with my mac in three years, I've never had to learn how to trouble shoot it!
My partner recently installed skype and had one or two audio problems (Incidentally, I tried opening itunes in her login, same problems all round). Also I have installed some third party DivX components for quicktime in the last couple of weeks, could either of those be an issue?
I'm gearing up for an OSX re-install, I'd REALLY like to avoid that if possible. Can you repair OSX using the installation disks? Is there some preference file I can change/delete, or something else in the system folder/library that would fix my problems?
    Thanks, any help really appreciated.

    hi Greg!
let's first try to get your itunes running again.
are you running Norton Internet Security 2005? if so, first try the "Lorraine" technique:
    Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 12:51am Oct 17, 2005 CDT
if you're not running NIS 2005, try:

    keep us posted.

  • Swf Quicktime Pro iTunes

Until the latest OS upgrade it was possible to save .swf (in use as soundfiles) files with Quicktime Pro as .mov files. These files you could import into iTunes and play them as any other .mp3's in this program.
But after the latest OS 10.4.3 upgrade this seems to be history. Although iTunes still 'plays' the files, I can't hear them anymore.
Does anyone know about this problem and have a solution?

Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it.
    Third party software?
I moved my old QuickTime to the desktop and reinstalled using the Installer from the Apple site (this after performing an Archive and Install). It is now a bare-bones QT with no third party software.
    Out of date DivX?
All DivX components removed and placed in a "quicktime plug=ins temp" folder.
Does the QuickTime browser plug-in still work as expected?
    Interestingly, yes it does.

  • Hostname becoming admin.

Ever since Aug 12th, a hostname appeared in Terminal named as 'compaq computer' overtaking mine 'AlcyonePalazzo' only when i turn the airport on. This name shows up when im using my home ip. I've been away from home and been eerie about using anything on the net, but i can't seem to find answers offline. I look through my console messages and system profiler to find indications of what is happening. 2 days ago i found the message in console that my hostname was changed to 'compaq computer' ...now i go back in those same messages and it's gone... I now know for sure that something has admin access to my mac, it deleted the console messages that have been recording records since dec 21 ( the day i bought my mac )
Anyone here know how i can stop this issue from rising, or has this escalated to inoperable OS? I don't know how much of this has tampered with my systems but here are some messages that appear now when i start up my mac in Console.

  • AWT Canvas vs. Swing "glass pane"

    Hello again world.
The book I've been reading led me down the Swing path but I thought I would go back and take a closer look at the AWT package.
Is an AWT Canvas analogous to a Swing JRootPane's glass pane?
    Thank you one and all.
    Ciao for now.

    No, not really.
    1) A Canvas is specifically for drawing. There's really no other purpose for it to exist. It's not a container, like Panel. Although, you can use AWT Panel in place of a Canvas, there'd be nothing wrong with that.
A glasspane has a purpose in a JFrame or other top-level Swing container. It's there to be shown, but often transparently, on top of all other components in that top-level container. You can make the glasspane be any class, yes, but generally it's going to be a JPanel or subclass, and you could paint on it if you override the paintComponent method, or add mouse listeners to intercept mouse events (when it's visible).
That you can draw on a Canvas or a glasspane component is irrelevant. One can can subclass JButton or JTree or AWT List or any other AWT or Swing component and override the paint or paintComponent method and do custom painting on it. The ability to paint on components is universal. But you wouldn't use a JButton or AWT Button for a glasspane.
    2) You don't want to use Canvas as a glass pane (or any AWT component) if you want the pane to be transparent. AWT components cannot be transparent, so if the component is visible, it'll block out anything under it. It's the whole issue of AWT's heavyweight components vs Swing's lightweight components.

  • Copying a file from a .DMG to Desktop causes MBP to reboot?!?!

Here's a good one. I was installing my apps on my new MBP 2.16 and I'm being very careful, only installing apps that are universal or works well with Rosetta.
I installed Toast 7.0.1, downloaded 7.0.2 (Roxio says they have some of the interal components in universal form) so while moving the new Toast.app from the DMG, the MBP would reboot when 80 of 114 MB are transfered. Just a quick reboot, no messages or anything. I was able to do this 3 times straight. The copy from the DMG to the Applications folder caused the reboot, but when I copied it to the Desktop, it worked.
Here's one possibly contributing issue, my MBP battery was DOA. It won't hold a charge but the MBP works well when connected to AC. I verified that the MagSafe connector was clean and had a good connection (MBP owners would attest that it's nearly impossible to not get a good connection).
The only other issue that I could think of is heat. Could heat cause a reboot? I had it on for about an hour installing apps, but it was sitting on a roadtools riser.
    thanks...Lee

    Lee,
Quite wierd that it seems to be happening when copying that file and you were able reproduce it three times. Has this happened at other times?
Since you stated your battery was DOA, I wonder if this somehow corrupted the PRAM and/or Power Manager Unit? Try resetting both to see if this takes care of the issue. Below is the link with instructions on how to do this:

  • 9 times out of 10 I have to force-quit to get out of my g-mail. This only happens only on my i-Mac, never on my Macbook pro. Can anybody help ?

    MAX OS X - version 10.7.5 :
For some weeks now, I have to force-quit 9 times out of 10 to get out of my e-mail account (g-mail). This only happens on my i-Mac, never with my other devices (Macbook Pro, i.Phone, i-Pad).
Does anybody know what could be the reason for this ?
    Thanks
