Divx Plus Player for Mac OSX 10.5.8

Unfortunately, I clicked the "upgrade now" button in a Divx pop up while trying to start buffering an online video stream.
That's when my nightmare began. I have no clue what type of Divx version I had before, but this new, upgraded version has made
viewing a nightmare. Slow buffering, stuttering, movie stalls half way thru and will not continue no matter what.
I found a suggestion in one of the topics by Stuicy to download this:
Get the DivXPlusWebPlayer-2.dmg, you don't need the whole divx bundle, all the bundle gives you is extra rubbish you don't need, and clutters up your HD.
Uninstall anything to do with divx on your computer, then install the divx-plus web player. Then you can play divx on the web on sites like stagevu, icefilms and veehd.
Oh, one last thing, if you have updated to Safari 5.1, then divx player just won't work at all, but it will work in earlier versions if you "get info" on Safari and make it open in 32-bit mode.

This too is not working properly. I just noticed that the topic was for the Snow Leopard, so this link might be the wrong one for my Mac.
All I want is, like Stuicy says, to just download the web player that will allow me to view the movies thru online streaming on what ever web site they are offering it.
Will someone please inform me of the right download and please provide a link to it. I am not tekkie savvy and I am at my wits end.

The MacApper weblog details how to clean out Finder's Open With menu so that uninstalled and duplicate applications don't bog down the list of apps you want to use.

Reinstall Flash CS3 for Mac OSX

Recently had to replace the hard drive on my Mac Book Pro. Data transfer to the new hard drive went well EXCEPT for my attempts to reinstall Flash CS3 and Flash Player (I'm forgetting the name of the latest and greatest version of the media player--forgive my temporary ignorance). I followed all of the procedures outlined in the ReadMe file. Have tried it several times to no avail. I keep getting an error message at the end of the reinstall process and the program will not open. All of the application files appear to be on my hard rive. Something is missing or needs to be repaired. I just don't know where to start to find out what needs to be repaired or replaced or updated. I suspect that because there have been numerous updates to Flash player, something related is interfering with the reinstall process. Any advice help would be appreciated.

Flash fails for Mac OSX

I just cannot install the free Flash Player 9 for Mac OSX
(PowerPC). I get an "Access denied Error 1008:5,-5000" , then "You
do not have enough access privileges for this installation". I've
installed/uninstalled countless times and even tried to install
older Player versions. No success.
And when I access webpages viia my Safari 1.3.2 ( on Mac OSX
10.3.9), any Flash content gets a box saying there's no MIME plugin
"application/x-shockwave-flash". It then sends me to the Player
download page all over again!
I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.6 and have ticked all its MIME
settings...
So far nothing via Adobe or Apple has worked...
Help! (another one for Adobe's Bentley Wolfe?)

have downloaded flashplayer removal update and restarted computer. what version of flash player do I now download for mac osx 10.5.8. i have dedicated today to sort this out please help me!

I think you need a 10.x version (probably 10.3.183.10).
Here's Adobe's Archive of old flash players. Scroll down. There's a 10.3.183.20 in the list. It downloads a zip with both windows and mac versions. After expanding you can fish out the mac version.

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:

Can't install flash player on Mac OSX version 10.4.11

Hello
I've spent the morning trying to do this and still no joy. I had flash player already and when trying to use the 4oD website it asked me to download or upgrade flashplayer. I did, the correct version according to my mac version. All goes well and the window message says 'installed successfully'.The only thing I find strange is that just before this message appears I hear the sound of items being put in the 'trash' ... and there they are. Other times the message error -1409 appears. The only icon that appears is the Flash player installer.pkg so not sure whether the application was installed or just the installer! All web searches prompt me to download the missing plug in, both in safari and mozilla. Java script is definitely enabled on both browsers.
I have use the uninstall package three times, restarted the computer, downloaded flash player again but no change.
Forgive my limited use of jargon - this doesn't make any sense to me but I've just spent 3 hours following instructions to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hate the new iTunes. Useless steps for navigation. They took something simple and complicated. Is there another music player for Mac. Unless I get the old iTunes back I'm done! I would use anything but this ridiculous player. How could they do this? Steve Jobs would never have let this happen.
Plus it's slow!!! Diffcult to burn CDs then find them. Yikes!!!!

iTunes works fine for me, and hasn't been "destroyed" by any means. If you can't deal with the new, simpler interface, just go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" and "Show Status Bar". iTunes 11 will then look much like the pervious versions did.

I used VSTack a few years ago when it came out and I still was on Cubase.
My personal opinion:
It was great at the time because it was one of it first to realize that no matter how fast your main machine is, you WILL run out of steam. VTAcks concept of outsourcing has a few flaws:
* You need to have the plug-ins installed on those computer (1 or 2) that runs VSTack. Good luck getting all those authorizations figured out.
* You have a **** of a data organisation in front of you. Every Song that uses the VSTack machine has to be stored separately and you have to note in the master song where it is is.
* A major issue with VSTack is the support from Steinberg. It took ages to go from 1.0 to 1.2 to address the major bugs. I just saw VSTack on Steinbergs website, still 1.2. I think that version is now 2 years old. So it seems VSTack is high on Steinbergs priority list next to the OSX MIDI driver for the MIDEX which I guess is still in beta after 5 years!?
A much better concept is Apple's "distributed audio" with Logic Nodes. Everything stays in the master file and you just outsource the processing power. Major drawback however is the current limitation to Logic plug-ins only (Except EXS24, Ultrabeat)

Questions on Flip4Mac and MS Windows Media player for Mac

If one installs "flip4mac" sofware, the plugin is installed. Will there be a icon or an application file for this software and an uninstaller file in the application folder? Do I have to activate the plugin before I use the web site to play the "wma" or "wmv" files? or it is not necessary to do that once it is installed? To uninstall, do I activate the "uninstall" file or the icon in the application folder?
As per Dave, in the Maxfixit, he says he uninstalled and went back to using media player. Does the Microsoft WM player handle DRM files to play? If so why Craig is saying that Flip4Mac is a "MUST HAVE"? Why not install the Microsoft WM player instead of Flip4Mac?
If one wants to install Microsoft WM player, what is latest version available for Mac? and where can I get it from and install it? MS WM player for Mac ver 9 comes in .bin or .hqt formats not .dmg format. Does the .bin format be installed by doule clicking on the file? or you need "stuffit" prog to expand and install the same?

A Flip4Mac application folder is created in the Applications folder. An uninstaller is included in the folder along with the Flip4Mac player application.
Flip4Mac currently does not play files that are protected by the MS DRM. However, if you use WMP on an Intel Mac you will have to run the browser in Rosetta because the WMP browser plug-in is not a universal binary. I'm not sure that the Mac version of WMP will play DRM protected files.
Yes, Stuffit is required to unpack the archive. You can download Stuffit Expander from www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com or www.allume.com.

Windows Media Player for MAc and other issues

I just bought a mac a week ago.
Decided to do the switch since the person at the store told me I could use the win XP interface. Anyway after installing the win xp, i realised my laptop doesnt not recognise the drivers.I got no sound, no airport. I am not too sure if the service pack is the issue. I am using service pack one.
Since I need to listen to some online lecture recordings and my xp doesnt have sound, i have to use it on MAC OS. But as the problem is the site kept telling me to install Internet explorer 5.5 and above and after install IE for MAc 5.1, it ask for Windows Media player. I installed flip4mac and media player for mac ..it still doesnt work...
I am truly sad to see the difficult in using a macbook and i kinda regretted getting it. It just getting on my nerves....
can someone please guide me or do you have any similar problem?

Yes the service pack is an issue if you're using Boot Camp to run XP. If you don't have SP2, you can try running Parallels Desktop (http://www.Parallels.com) which doesn't require SP2.

Some streaming media sites are not compatible with Mac OS X. Are these online lectures for school? I would simply ask the person running the class to help you get support. They can tell you pretty quickly if it's possible to listen with a Mac. If it's not, you should be able to do it from XP with either Parallels or Boot Camp (provided you have an SP2 version of XP).

There are times that using a Mac (with 5% market share) is frustrating because many websites don't follow standards properly. If the web designers blow it off and only support Windows, 95% of the users are still happy and don't complain. That's lazy and infuriating but it happens quite a lot. There's even a name for it: Mac Marginalization.
So you will run into this from time to time. The best solution on the Macbook is to get one of the Windows environments up and running properly. But you should still complain LOUDLY to the people who set up the bad website. The only way this will change is if users let lazy site administrators know that they are MAD about it.

Vmware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX Released Today

I don't know if this is the correct forum; if it's not, please pardon me.
VMware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX has been released today. This product, while the developers admit has some bugs in it, promises to make virtual computing a whole lot easier and would eliminate for many (not all) the need to use Boot Camp. This is what we've been waiting for to purchase our new MAC. I can say without a doubt that from my own experience with Linux boxes, VMWare is the best virtual solution on the market. It's easy to configure and supports a wide variety of hardware and OSs. I can even move the virtual machines I created under Linux to my new MAC when I receive it.
The time has finally dawned for me to retire the last remaining pc towerbox in my home. My wife and I recently expunged one of those machines earlier this week and are eagerly looking forward to getting rid of the other one.
We am really looking forward to purchasing the new Mac Pro. What makes it especially appealing for us is it's scalability and the fact that we can use our current hardware,including our Kensington Track Ball mouse and current monitor with it, although we are taking a serious look at a new Apple Display as well.

Is it safe to download and opperate Windows media player for Mac's to view video on the web ?

You should know that's it's discontinued, and no longer developed by Microsoft, and therefore will never be native to Intel Macs. You should look to the free Flip4Mac QuickTime plugin from flip4mac.com

CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
activity monitor.

My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
To start, try the following:
1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
2. Open Java Preferences again
3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
Plugin and Applications)
4. Open Terminal
5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
/Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
necessary!
