Divx won't play on Quicktime...

Divx won't play on Quicktime. Before switching to Lion, I was able to play divx files using quicktime. Can't do it now. Files work using VLC or DIVX player, but I need Quicktime because it has "TRIM" feature! Please help!

i have the same issue but .AVI wont play neither. The DivX player will play divX files for me but has a jumpy frame rate now. Was all fine untill installing Lion.

  • Mov files won't play in Quicktime?

    Hi,
I have to cut some footage with Final Cut Pro. I used an G5 for that which worked fine. But I have to change to a MacBook Pro with Intel Core2 Duo now, because the G5 is to slow.
Sadly, the footage I have won't play with Quicktime and - of course - neither with Final Cut Pro on the Intel Mac. I just have the sound, but no video. Seems like a codec is missing. but when I download the codec it won't install because it seems to be already installed...
I don't know how the footage was captured, I assume with FCP though... Info says: "Apple Intermediate Codec".
I updated everything except "Compressor" because the update fails.
I use MacOS 10.6.2 with my old FinalCut Pro HD 4.5 (Rosetta). I have Perian installed.
    What can I do?

This is a quick time Codec problem... I want nothing to do with FinalCut...
I have a series of videos from my wedding that I want to convert into some other format that can be edited in Premier.
The videos open in quicktime, but only give me audio and no video. VLC will wont even play them saying
    "No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "icod". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."
Any ways, I opened them up in quicktime and get the properties of the videos
Video track - 27.58MB - Apple Intermediate Codec
Sound track - 531.72KB - Integer (Little Endian)
The file itself is 28MB, so I know the video is still in there somewhere.
If someone could please tell me how to convert these, I would be greatly appreciated. These are the only videos of my wedding, so I really need them to be saved.
Please email me if you might have any suggestions.
    Thanks

  • .MOV file won't play in QuickTime Player? QT Components?

I have a bunch of .MOV clips on my hard drive that I'd like to ultimately import to Final Cut Express (4.0.1) to edit (my wedding video!!). If I double click on the clip, it automatically opens in QuickTime Player (7.6.9), and I then prompted to a QuickTime Components website. I'm not sure why the .MOV clips won't play, since I believe I have the latest version of QT. What should I do?
Additional information on the .MOVE files: original format is MPEG HD, dimensions: 1280 x 720, Codecs: XDCAM EX 720p30 (35 Mb/s VBR) Integer (Big Endian), Timecode
    Thank you for your help!

Upon further research, I found that a certain QT plug-in is required to use XDCAM EX footage in Final Cut Express, which can be found on this website:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
I downloaded the demo, but have no idea how to use it to convert my files so FCE will accept it.  Is anyone familiar with this plug-in and what to do once it is downloaded?

  • AVI defies codec - yet won't play for QuickTime

    Hi,
I've just got a bunch of avi files, and am trying to get them playing in QuickTime. I get the white screen, so download every codec under the sun to try and get it working (I know being on Tiger means I haven't really got a good start).
The thing is the production company says it was made without a codec - is this possible? The movie info includes:
    YUY2, 320 x 240, Thousands
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    I've downloaded:
    DIV X 6 Decoder + Encoder
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OS X
Flip 4 Mac WMV Import + Export
    MSmpeg4v1.component
    MSmpeg4v2.component
The file does play in VLC, but I can't edit from that. I've tried changing .avi to .mpeg, .mov etc, but QuickTime doesn't like it.
Is YUY2 the problem? Many thanks,

  • .mov won't play in quicktime after previewing in photoshop bridge cs6, what do I do to fix?

    I have a iMac, OS X 10.8.5, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.
I don't like how iphoto organizes my files so have been organizing my photos and videos from my iphone into folders after exporting them from iphoto.
These are the steps I believe I took in regards to my "corrupted" .mov file:
    -imported into iphoto
    -exported originals from iphoto
-re-organized photos and videos using adobe bridge CS6
-tried to open my .mov from bridge (default is to open in quicktime), I'm getting a small black quicktime box (as compared to a large window where the file will play), but video will not play.
-video will play inside of bridge preview window but file will not play in quicktime.
HOW DO I GET MY FILE TO PLAY IN QUICKTIME?
DID I MISS A HIDDEN FILE WHEN MANUALLY MOVING THE FILES IN BRIDGE?
I no longer use this process.
I am using image capture to import and then organizing from there.
I don't believe I have an issue with my .mov files anymore.
This seems like something caused by iphoto. ????

  • Mov file won't play in quicktime on pc only audio plays

How do I get my mov file to play in Quicktime? The audio plays but the image doesn't appear -- it is just black or white.  Thanks.  If I need a codec, how do I get it?  I am using a PC not a Mac.

Use the Movie Inspector window to find out what video codec was used and a search of the Web to find a valid version.

  • After rendering as MOV, file won't play in Quicktime.

When I render files as MOVs or MP4s, the files will not play in Quicktime or VLC. When opened in Quicktime, a "Converting..." window pops up. After waiting for a long time, an error message shows up.
    Any suggestions?

Howdy Martin, it's a project to add the illusion of 3D to a 2D static photograph. You import a layered PSD with two layers - one monochromatic mask and the base photo. You add a displacement map to the image, tweak a few settings, add a keyframe to either end, chnage parameters and you're done. Like this After Effects TUTORIALS - How to Make 2d Image to 3D using Displacement Map (After Effects & Photoshop) - YouTube Should be relatively simple and is up to the point when I export and play it back!
Have rendered with AE directly as as well as AME.
It's odd as I've kept fiddling today and have managed to create a project that works and plays back then the next one does not, same everything! Arrrgh!
    Latest AE OS 10.9.5
thanks for taking an interest, I really need to nail this to develop the theory/concept I'm working on.

  • Play dvd created with iDVD won't play in QuickTime

    Hi!
Just a simple question:is it possible to play the dvds I created with idvd in quicktime? and if so, how?
If not, are there any other players one could recommend for detailed video analysis and coding? Ideally I need to be able to forward to a specific time and to take notes at the same time (would need that for my research project).
I can not open the dvd with QuickTime, even when I set it as the default player in system preferences.
The only thing that works are VCL and the pre-installed DVD player.
I have QuickTime Player Version 7.1.3.
and the movies are downloaded from my digital camera with iMovie 6 and then exported and burned with iDVD 6
    Many thanks!!!

Just a simple question:is it possible to play the dvds I created with idvd in quicktime? and if so, how?
Yes and no. QT does not play DVD material (VOBs in VIDEO_TS folder) natively. In order to play the video portion of the "muxed" data stream requires the purchase of Apple's MPEG-2 QT component ($20). Even then, most commonly used "muxed" audio formats are not supported. Since QT does not properly handle/convert this material, Apple included the DVD Player as you have already mentioned. This application will play both DVDs and VIDEO_TS folder VOBs on your HDD.
If not, are there any other players one could recommend for detailed video analysis and coding? Ideally I need to be able to forward to a specific time and to take notes at the same time (would need that for my research project)
MPEG Streamclip (a free MPEG based third-party application), will also play VOB files (single or multiple file series), allow scrubbing to a particular time, select segments, and, if you have the QT MPEG-2 component installed, perform minor edits, apply "on-the-fly" filters for bightness, contrast, saturation, volume, de-interlace, crop/scale, etc. as it converts to QT compatible formats (if your iMovie projects are no longer available) or third-party formats for which you may have other installed components. While it will provide limited "stream" information, I would not call it an analytical tool. (E.g., provides audio/video information like formats average data rates, audio sampling rate, etc. but not graph/read things like an instantaneous data rate -- something I have been seeking.)

  • DVD won't play in Quicktime

I have a training DVD from Vortex, about my Sony HVR-Z7, and it plays very well on any DVD-player, but when I try and play it on my Mac, I get the following message: *OSStatus failure* -1409. Any idea what goes wrong here? Dragging the DVD-icon to Quick-time does not help either: it won't start playing.

Thanks for the reply! I'm an newbie, coming from PC. Is there a standard application in Leopard that plays DVD's or do I have to download something from the web?

  • Video playback problems: ok in VLC, won't play in quicktime/MPEG streamclip

    Hi,
I have files made in .mov format in Final Cut Pro. When put on my MacBookPro, they lose their file extension. If I add the extension back on again (or not) they play in VLC. Only the audio will play in MPEG stream clip. I have downloaded perian, and the mpeg-2 extra for Quicktime, but Quicktime will still not play these files.
VLC file format says: audio files are sowt. The video file is mpgv codec.
The sad thing is I need to use Transana, a video analysis software, which only works with Quicktime.
I have checked out lots of forums, but nobody seems to have a good answer for this problem, assuming that the Perian or MPEG slipstream or the Quicktime add-on fill fix it.
I'd be very, very grateful for any advice.
    Thanks very much

I didn't but I installed it, then rebooted and yet nothing. The output changed though. Here it is.

  • ITunes won't play .mov QuickTime files anymore

My hard drive crashed two weeks ago and it has been replaced and almost all of the information was salvaged--thank god!
However, now in iTunes when I go to play a movie that previously played in iTunes, it says that the file requires QuickTime and that it is not supported by this version of iTunes.
I have over 9,000 movies in my iTunes MOVIES section that are of various formats (none are flv or avi, as I don't think iTunes has ever played those).  I've never had trouble playing mov, mp4, m4v, mpg files before.  Is this likely a problem with my reinstall of iTunes or is it that the latest version of iTunes has limited parameters than prior versions?
Thanks for any imput.  I'd really like to be able to play all of my movies in iTunes like I could before.
    Chad

I'm sorry that I have no solution to offer, but I also have noticed that several video files with the .mov extension that used to play just fine will no longer play in either the current QuickTime Player or in the older QT Pro Player 7. I have no idea what changed.

  • Exported MPEG2 Audio Won't Play in Quicktime - is there a workaround?

Just completed my first video edit in Premiere Elements.   Working with 720p HD footage from a Sony Cybershot.    Tried various preset outputs, HD 720p 25, among others.   In all cases, picture looked good but audio did not play back.   Just discovered after some searching that Quicktime will not playback MPEG2 audio without a $20 add on.  That's not going to break my bank, but do I really need it?   Is there a workaround for this?   Can I export in Dolby Digital?   My goal is simply to have a finished project that is the most universally playable as possible.  Will eventually archive on tape and DVD.   Obviously, want to maintain the best sound as possible.

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • TV show won't play because Quicktime doesn't work with iTunes version

I downloaded episode 1 of Mad Men.  When I try to play it I get this error:  This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes
I read some of the other support discussions and tried to do 2 things:
    (1) I tried to set iTunes to open in 32 bit mode.  But, when I open iTunes after doing so, I get an error that iTunes must be opened in 64 bit mode.  So, that didn't work.
    (2) I tried to remove the movie, but instead of being asked whether I still wanted to keep it, it just asked me if I wanted to "hide" the movie.  So, I'm not sure what this means.
How can I watch the show I downloaded?  And, please provide really explicit instructions because I can't seem to follow the complicated directions some of the super smart people leave on these discussion groups.
I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch retina screen computer running Yosemite 10.10.3.  I have iTunes 12.1.2.27.
    Thanks,
    Cameron

I had the same problem as teacher_k reported and I am happy to report that after 2 days of fighting it seems I solved it.
Symptom was: when playing a movie trailer from iTunes on a HDTV or on the computer either nothing happens or a black screen opens and no video or audio is perceived. I have a Win7 laptop.
I am not sure if all of these steps were necessary but at the end it started working:
    1. I hope it is obvious that you need a connection to a HDMI TV (at least for some content that is protected)  . Ensure that your TV display correctly shows your screen when not playing movies (fixing resolution, refresh rates, etc.)
    2. Ensure you have latest rev of QT and that it is the default player for movies (by just launching it and answer yes to that same question if appears)
    3. Follow the instructions  in Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues as Whatcheck said
    4. The last tmagic step hat made it work was based on Patriciafromor: deauthorize/authorize the computer, Just in case I also logged off and back into my AppleID account and restarted iTunes and voilà

  • ITunes won't play movies, Quicktime will

This is very aggravating.  My iTunes movies refuse to play in the iTunes player.  If I navigate to where the movie file is located, right click it and open it with quicktime, it will play flawlessly.
If I try to play the video in iTunes it will just stick on the first frame, play a couple seconds of audio, then do nothing.  I can scrub through the entire movie and the frozen frame will change to where I've scrubbed to, but it will never play.
I've tried complete uninstallation of all apple software as one of the support articles suggested, then reinstalling fresh, to no avail.
I've tried changing the audio from 16 to 24 and used various levels of Hz (44100, 96000, etc) as some people said this was how to fix it but that didn't work.
I've tried disabling Direct3D, and disabling all the hardware acceleration in the quicktime preferences, to no avail.
Can somebody please tell me how to fix this?  I am on a very fresh windows 7 install and really have hardly anything installed on this computer.  Just google chrome, iTunes, a few steam games, and Skype.  I really don't understand what could be causing this issue.  I am disappointed that an apple product is requiring more troubleshooting than any windows program I've ever worked with.  My iPhone and iPad work flawlessly, it's a shame that iTunes is having such a massive issue (I can't even play the videos I purchase... really?)

Ok so I figured out what was causing the problem and how to fix it.
It turns out that you can't use enhancements on your iTunes audio source.  If you go to control panel --> sound --> right click your device on the list --> properties --> enhancements tab, then check "disable all enhancements" your videos should play.  You guys may want to add this into the support article about iTunes video playback issues on windows, as it impacted the video playback, but was in the support article for audio troubleshooting.
