DKA790GX Plat with SATA + IDE DVD drives

I have been running my mb with 2 x SATA HDs and 2 x IDE DVD. No problem.
In (re)building on older computer I had the need for an IDE DVD drive as the SATA was too new so I swapped out one of the IDE from my DKA790GX.
Now I can get the SATA DVD to work fine  on the DKA790GX but NOT the IDE. It seems to be working OK as it makes all the same noises as the SATA when I put in a disk. I have tried moving Jumpers and different IDE cable but can not get it to work.
In itself it is no big deal but I kinda like having an IDE around as it has got me out of scrapes a couple of times.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Alan

Perhaps it got damaged during the move. Have you tested it in your other system lately?
Thank you for the polite and quick answering! We would however like some more info. about the system you are talking about. PSU, processor, memory, graphics card.
Thanks Fredrik always a possibility its damaged will try it later in the original PC it came from.

  • 785GTM-E45 SATA (AHCI) HDD and IDE DVD drive cannot be used together

I have bought 785GTM-E45, and installed a sata hdd and a IDE dvd drive on it.  the sata is set to ahci mode.  After install xp using f6 method and install all the drivers, I cannot find the dvd drive at all in windows.  I have to go into bios to set the sata ports back to IDE model to make the dvd appear again.
Anyone knows the reason?  It looks like a bios bug.  I am using the new v8 bios.

It is just annoying that this board has so many issues.  No vcore change, no gpu voltage change, v8 bios will freeze if entering processor details, and the issue in this current topic.  I have used at least three other brands' boards and never had any issue before.  Oh my, MSI...

You could have read the manual before buying, then you would have known it's a cheap office board.

  • IMac won't boot with SATA external firewire drive attached

I have an 1T Hitachi SATA drive enclosed in a Macally firewire enclosure. If it is attached either in series with other IDE firewire drives or directly, my iMac will boot only to the Apple icon and will not engage the gear icon. If I disconnect the drive the iMac will boot normally with all the other IDE firewire drives attached. I've troubleshot with both Macally and Hitachi, received a replacement enclosure and have an RMA from Hitachi. Before I send the Hitachi back with the possibility of a replacement not fixing the problem, I am asking whether there is a known problem with external SATA drives in particular. TIA. -Dave

I have the same problem exactly but with two firewire 800 drives attached. Both are LaCie d2 500 gb drives. I have tried each one as the first in the series with no luck. I have not tried to connect with any other type of cable.

  • The new version of itunes has conflited with my cd/dvd drive

It seems that the new version of Itunes has conflicted with my CD/DVD drive because when I uninstalled and re installed the itunes my drive has stopped working and I now have an error code of 19 - Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) I have tried to update drivers but I am up to date, I have installed and re installed my drive this did not solve the problem.  I am now at a loss as to what to do I have had a live chat with microsoft and they could not reslove it all they wanted to do was sell me another service!!!  Could installing an older version of itunes solve this issue?

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

  • Upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger with an external DVD drive.

I am trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 from Tiger 10.4.11 with an external DVD drive. The disc loads OK and prompts me for my password to restart and begin the installation. On restart, instead of being asked to accept the terms of use and etc... I just get the same prompt to restart and get caught in a loop. Any tips?

    Try this instead:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon of the Snow Leopard DVD.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • Reinstalling OS with a broken DVD-Drive

    Hi guys
I got this MacBook from around 2009 with a broken DVD-Drive, and I want to reinstall the OS.
Im not that much into the Mac stuff, since I got the computer from a friend a few days ago.
I got acess to some Windows computers and an external DVD-Drive, but the MacBook can't seem to find the external drive.
How could I reinstall the OS or somehow approach this?

    Yes.
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

  • IDE drives not recognized with SATA as boot drive

    Greetings All,
I have a new 865PE Neo2-P that has a 120 Gig SATA drive as its main boot drive. It's loaded with WinXP Home.  I'm trying to add two IDE hard drives from my previous system to the on-board controller, and it simply refuses to recognize them at all.
I've read the FAQ, the manual, previous posts, etc., and I've tried the different BIOS settings suggested in the forum, and nothing seems to work.  The only thing I haven't been able to do as posted was to "set my SATA drive as the boot drive".  The boot selections in the BIOS only list floppy, IDE-0, and some boot manager. Not sure if the boot manager was installed by my local PC assembler or not.
The PC shipped with the BIOS settings MSI recommends on page 3-22 and 3-23 for users wanting to use both SATA and IDE devices.  That is to say:
    Legacy Mode
    P-ATA only
    SATA Keep Yes
    PATA Channel Both
    SATA Ports P0-3rd/P1-4th
Changing the BIOS settings only seems to lose the DVD/CD drives, and the system wants to boot off of the IDE's rather than boot from the SATA.
What the ??!! is going on here?  Why is it so difficult to get this MB to recognize IDE devices?  I've never had this much difficulty before with any MB's, and I'm getting very frustrated.
    What should I do next?

OK, I checked my notes.  I did try these two BIOS settings without it working:
ATA On CHip Operate Mode: Native
    ATA Config: SATA only
    PATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Set SATA as RAID: No(Only available in FIS2R/FISR versions only)
    or
ATA On CHip Operate Mode: Native
    ATA Config: PATA only
    SATA Keep Enabled: Yes
Set SATA as RAID: No(Only available in FIS2R/FISR versions only)
Now, tonight I decided to try a different cable just to eliminate that. What I discovered is that the IDE1 socket is "out of spec". There are no bent pins, but the rightmost three columns of pins are larger than the others, too large for any IDE cable, and consequently it doesn't fit snugly in the socket!! (I tried plugging the MSI supplied cable from the DVD drive into that socket as well and it wouldn't fit.) I never noticed this before as I was pressing the cable in the socket as far as it would go.
I will talk to my local manufacturer to see about getting a replacement board. It's clearly messed up. Thank you MSI for the swell quality control.

  • Problem with IDE DVD drive

Hey guys.  I just built a desktop and I've been having some problems recognizing my hardware.  I've got a SATA hard drive and it works fine, but my IDE dvd burner isn't recognized.  It doesn't show up under /dev/ and lspci -v returns

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo e6850 on an MSI p35 platinum motherboard with 64 bit Arch installed.  The drive gave me some problems when I installed arch; I could boot the CD, but once I tried to install any packages it told me that no CD drive was found, so I had to install from FTP.  I'd really like to have 64bit Arch on this computer, so I'd really appreciate any help.  Thanks.

I have the LiteOn DVD burner, and encounter the same problem as you. Tried everything suggested by others, nothing worked. Finally got it to install when I changed the memory settings from 667 to 400.

  • Sony IDE DVD Drive not being recognized

    Motherboard : P7n-SLI-FI
                        MS-7380
I recently upgraded my computer a bit with this new motherboard, ram, video cards, power supply. I used my older dvd drive that was working in my last computer. It is currently connected via IDE ribbon, but it does not show up in my computer or when I put in a CD does not auto run.
The unit does have power to it ( The eject button works, light on front blinks a little )
In BIOS I tried changing the IDE primary from AUTO to DVD/CD Drive and it still did not work.
Any suggestions ? Buy a new dvd drive that is SATA ?
    Thanks

Also check the jumpers on the IDE optical drive so as they are set in Master mode as its the only IDE device in the system, assuming that you have a SATA hard drive, or if your hard drive is also an IDE one then you have to set the jumper to run as a Slave mode.

  • Annoying IDE DVD Drive problem...

    Hi
I just put together a new gaming system yesterday. However I've been having an annoying problem so far with my IDE LG DVD writer not being able to read CDs/DVDs properly.
I try to install different games/programs and after a lil while I'll get an error saying"FileError: retry?" I have tried using the setup files with autorun disabled.
    My specs are-
    MSI K8n NEO4 Mobo
    1 Gig Corsair Ram
    300 Gig SATA MAxtor HD
    256mb XFX GF 7800GT
    A64 3500+
So here is what I've tried so far.
Opened up the case drive set to master, plugged into master IDE cable, verified this in the BIOS.
Windows installed fine on the same dvd writer drive with no errors at all. It seems only after installing the Nforce IDE drivers that this occurred. I tried removing just the Nforce IDE drivers using add/remove programs but the problem still persists. I am sure this dvd writer works as it works in other computers and successfully installed windows onto the machine, I then tried reinstalling windows a second time just to make sure...same problem. When the Nforce driver was installed I checked and it said ultradma 33. I put it in PIO and the same problem continued.
I know for a fact my cds are good as they are all originals and work in other machines with no scratches.
After removing the Nforce IDE drivers the Windows IDE drivers installed and I rebooted, same problem.
I am really stumped here all I have in the PC are 1 SATA Hard Drive and 1 IDE DVD writer connected to their respective master cables and proper jumper settings...everything looks good in the BIOS.
One other thing I also have an external USB 2.0 Dvd Writer, I use this on another machine. I tried it as well in the machine and I get the same problem. I know it isn't the USB connection since I have other devices on the USB that work fine.
    Any ideas? :S

Your problem is in the nvidia drivers ... you should not uninstall the drivers via add/remove programs but instead go to system >> hardware >> IDE >> properties >> update driver >> choose a driver >> ms or "native", then reboot (in English slightly other wordings might be used).

  • IDE/DVD drive problem

I just set up my new Neo4-F board and I'm having problems with the DVD/CDRW drive I have installed.  When I first installed it on IDE2 as the master, Windows installed just fine and so did a bunch of driver updates.  After I powered down and turned it back on later, I found that inserting a CD into the drive would cause a BSOD.  I tried numerous things, including reinstalling Windows to get it to work.  Reinstalling Windows did get it to work again, but then after a power down it started to BSOD on me again.  So I moved the drive to the IDE1 slave position and everything seems to work except it doesn't recognize DVDs.  I'm fairly sure the drive is not damaged since it worked on the last machine it was installed in.
I also tried using a different CDRW drive to see what would happen.  First I put that in IDE2/Master position, and it worked, but Windows took a long time to load.  So I'm convinced since drives do work on that spot and that the original DVD/CDRW drive was able to work until a power cycle, that there's something wrong with the IDE2 spot and/or my motherboard in general.  I'm concerned that if I buy a new drive that it also won't work.  Everything is recognized correctly in Windows and in the BIOS, and there are no conflicts reported in Windows.  Any ideas as to why my DVD drive doesn't seem to want to work?
    Thanks.

I wanted to check the firmware version but I'm not sure how to go about that.  I'm pretty sure it's the most recent as the latest firmware update on Samsung's website is from 2003.  Although it could be longer than I want to admit/can remember since I got this drive.  The reason I think the IDE2 port might be problematic is that the CDRW drive I put in there worked without crashing, but had the not so nice habit of adding an extra 30+ seconds to the Windows load time.  And I know the drive works, and it's being detected just fine in the BIOS and in Windows.  It also reads CDs fine (but seems to be picky about what CDR/Ws it reads).
I should just pick up a DVDRW drive from a local store and see if that works in there.  If not I can always return it.  Unless anyone else has any ideas?  I should also ask while I'm at it, is it normal to have more than one Primary IDE, Secondary IDE channel and Standard Duel Channel PCI IDE controller listed in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?  I have three of each.  Shouldn't there only be one of each?
My only other option I think would be to get a SATA drive and bypass the IDE altogether.  But that's a more expensive option I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
    Thanks again.
