DL speed never over 400kbps

I have a homehub 3,
I have also dis-connected the bel-wire,
I have tried the master-socket,
I have left the hub running for more than 12 days and I don't know what else to do.
I am on option 3 on the BT contract.
These are my BT speedtest results today:

Why do I get a spinning wheel during a youtube dideo when my ISP download speed is over 30 meg?

You may have a 30meg connection onto the internet but a page will only come in as fast as the server can deliver it.  A popular site like YouTube will have very many concurrent users making page requests, and the nature of YouTube's content means that each connection is very data intensive.  If you are trying to access a particular popular video, or if you are trying to access YouTube at a peak time when a lot of other people are trying to access it at the same time, like early evening say, then the server may be struggling to service all the requests hence you may experience a delay in viewing your video irrespective of the speed of your internet connection.

  • Qosmio F50-126 - Fan Speed never htting maximum

    Hey
This issue been bothering me for a long time but was too lazy to post on it. When I boot up my notebook, you can hear the fan speed hitting its maximum RPM. But during gaming when the laptop is about to reach its maximum temperature to restart, the fan speed never hits its maxium RPM. It always seems to be about 50 percent when it about to hit the overheat threshold.
Can you tell me how to fix this issue so the notebook does us its fan maximum RPM during gaming or some other cpu/gpu intensive process?
I have all the lastest BIOS and drivers installed to date.

    Hi
The fan speed is controlled by fan table which is stored in the BIOS.
Usually the fan speed would be set to a higher level only if an certain temperature level has been reached.
Furthermore the notebook would shut down automatically if the temperature level would be too high
If the unit runs stable, I would not be worried about the fan performance.

  • Import speed all over the place

Hi there, first time poster here.
I'm trying to import some Christmas CDs into iTunes. I've not used it for several months for a variety of reasons. When I import the CD, the speed is all over the place but typically at a ridiculous 0.1x!! It's ranged from 12.0x on down. It took many hours just to copy one CD (10 songs - average length).
I don't have a huge library of music. I have plenty of room on my laptop (Asus with Vista) and I've never had this problem with iTunes before on the same computer. If anything, the computer is running better now as I ran disk clean up, defrag, and dumped a bunch of stuff off it (nothing software related).
    Thoughts?

Just to add my IP profile since getting infinity 2 has always been 77MB down 20MB up.
    PLEASE HELP

  • Speeds all over the place

My speeds are all over the place tonight. Tried a HH3 restart and speedtests and downloads are varying from 3mb/s to 7mb/s. Same servers were full speed for me yesterday.

why did you change to the hh5 if the hh4 and modem were working ok?  I would go back to the modem and either use the newer HH5 or revert back to the hh4.  see if that brings back your stable connection and if so your speed should improve

  • USB 1.1 - possible transfer speeds of over ~600kb/sec?

    Hello
I have an old iMac Flower Power. Needless to say, it's limited to the old USB 1.1 specification. What I've found is that when attempting to transfer files to external drives (that can copy at 30 MB/sec+ via USB 2), I am limited to about 500 to 600 KB/sec transfer.
Now, USB 1.1 is supposed to support 12 megabit per second - 1.5 MB/sec - per bus. The iMac possesses two USB busses, one for each port. While I know there is speed loss to system overhead, I would think that a greater than 50%-66% speed drop is rather extreme - especially since these drives were connected directly to one of the iMac's USB ports - no hubs or other devices in between.
Is this a limitation I can't get around, or is there some other reason that it's being limited that I could possibly fix/optimize for a bit higher speed?

    Hello
Yah, I figured as much. Still, only having a bandwidth that's a third of what it's supposed to be is a rather ridiculous drop, don't you think? At least USB 2 is a bit better - I've been able to get a bit over 30 MB/Sec transfer with a fast external hard drive, which is at least half the theoretical bandwidth. I was just hoping there'd be a way to squeeze out a little extra performance.
As far as firewire goes, yes indeed! The problem is that I only have 3 firewire devices - an old iPod, a desktop hard drive (used for video editing), and a small portable hard drive. It works for transferring files, but it doesn't work for what I often need - my 1 TB primary media drive is USB, and flash drives don't come in Firewire.
Oh well, I suppose that's what you get when you try to use old hardware, eh? I hope somebody someday figures out how to use Firewire or ethernet to make a USB connection with some sort of adapter. Not likely, but I can dream. Now if only I could make the airport card adapter work with a USB PCMCIA card...?

  • Broadband speed issue over the last week

    Hi,
    Hi All,
For the last 3 years my usual broadband speed is about 4 mbps.  I don't have the best quality service where I live and my BT Home hub V2.0 would usually reset itself 2-3 times a week.  When it does reset the speed usually drops to around 3 mbps.  Resetting the hub manually once i notice the drop usually returns the speed back to normal and everything is fine again.
I noticed about a week ago that the hub had changed from Interleaved to Fast and speeds fluxtuated a bit between 3 - 4.5 mbps.  On Monday 21st January I noticed that the speed had dropped to 1,152 mbps and the noise levels were over 20.  I tried to manually reset the hub as I normally do but the spped remained the same and the noise levels hadn't dropped back to normal..  I left it for a further day and tried again but it still remained at 1,152 mbps.

BT speedtest at the time of the recent ADSL Statistics (3days and 16hrs)
Download speed                         achieved during the test was - 0.98 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-1 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.01 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.67Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps
I haven't changed anything, my line is connected directly to the 'old style' master socket and always has been and is about half a metre from the hub so no telephone extension is used.
I can't hear any noise/crackling on the phone line when doing the 1470 17070 test.
I am reluctant to reset the hub again because if the speed stays the same I will then have to start the process again.
    Thanks,
    Sparky196

That extra wiring will affect your connection speed. Do all of the extensions start from the master socket?
Are you sure you are connected to the actual master socket?

  • Infinity speeds dropped over past month

We recently had Infinity installed around 2 months ago and it was perfectly fine for the first month. I was consistently getting download speeds of 70Mbps and was extremely satisfied with that. However, the speed has dropped down to 50Mbps which is very annoying as it is a huge speed loss for me. I have ran many speed tests to see if the speed changes but it would appear to be capped at 50Mbps. My IP Profile tells me that the max speed on my line is 54Mbps however I know for sure that has dropped as it was once at 70. Is there anything I can do to reset my IP profile? Are there any things I can do to try and assist in this or should I just get used to it?
    Thanks.

Just another update I have now asked BT to rest my IP profile. I am convinced there is something wrong with mine:
1: 2 weeks ago the speed started to get worse.
2: 1 week ago I reset the HH5 back to factory defaults.
3: Nothing has changed speed wise in the last week.
My current profile is: 63/18 (it was 80/20 for the first 2 months).
I can download up to 70Mb from Steam or Origin despite my IP profile being locked to 63 Mb right now. For the 1st 2 months I could download @ 95-100Mb.
I think the IP profile is locked as my line has always been stable.
If BT India are not prepared to reset my IP profile I take this to the CEO of BT next that seems to be the only way to sort this out!

  • BT Infinity 2 Speed All Over the Place

    Hello,
Last Friday my family upgraded to BT Infinity 2. According to the BT engineer, the speed will be up and down for about a week, and eventually we should be getting at least 55mb download and 20mb up. The upload speed is fine, get around 20mb so I'm fine with that.
But what I was wondering is if what the BT engineer said was actually true or not. When the guy tested the connection through the ethernet port, he was only getting around 15-20mb, and the max we managed to get out of it was 30mb. I have been testing the internet speed frequently using the speedtest.net website and occasionally the download speed will jump up to speeds between 30-45mb and then go back down to 15mb-20mb, and it usaully stays at that speed for the rest of the day. Is this normal behaviour after a new installation? And should it all be settled down within a few days?
It is quite clear my connection is able to pump out more than 45mb download, and the cabinet is on the pavement literally just outside my house.
Here are a couple of screenshots of my speed results:
If anyone could help with this it would be great, thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First, are you running wired or wireless?  If wireless, that could explain the difference.  Run wired for tests if at all possible. Despite advertising claims, HomeHub is an adequate but not good wireless router.
It would help if you could post your profile.
Either http://speedtester.bt.com/ and choose the ‘ADSL and Fibre diagnostics’ option
    or Tom’s BRAS checker http://windows.mouselike.org/be/?DoAction=BrasChecker
If the profile is uniformly high, it is probably something with the HomeHub or something else at your end.  If the profile is jumping up and down, it may be DLM doing its initial settling in.

  • Speeds dropped over time

hello i have been with BT quite some time now and the speeds have been good around 18mbps to the router itself but as of late it hs dropped to about 12mbps but sometimes getting 13mbps if im lucky, i would like to know if my profile DB has been changed to a higher as this would be a likley cause of the drop.
if this is the cause i would like it lowered again so im back up to my speeds i was originally on
im also not running the bt hub 3.0 either as im currently using a Asus N600 to keep up with my household needs.
i have attached the image below to show my connection itself and if you need any further details please do ask

from reading your stats theconnection speed is consistent with what would be expected for a 31db attenuation and your noise margin is normal at 6db.  you mat be able to get a faster connection speed if noise margin drops to 3db which would give a higher profile and faster download.
if you maintaim connection 24/7 without any resets the DLM may in time drop noise margin to 3db
your connection time is only 9hrs - router reset or manual reset?

  • Airport express reduces download speed by over 50%, any ideas on how to improve

My ISP provides 15MBPS download speed, which when I hook my PC direct to the modem, I get about 14-15 MBPS download speed.  When I run the speed test again using the airport wireless network, the download speed drops to between 3-5MBPS.  Any ideas on what I could do to improve the speed with my wireless

I actually have two Airports, one  is located in our bedroom which is hooked to my modem and the other is an extention which is located in our family room.  The total distance between the modem and our family room is no more than about 60 feet and there are a couple of walls between the two.
If the main AirPort is located in the bedroom and family room is approximately 60 feet away...then the "extending" AirPort should be located at an approximate mid point between the two rooms.
The way that you have things configured now, the signal from the "main" AirPort must travel all the way to the family room. It has lost a great deal of strength and speed by that point.
The AirPort in the family room can only "extend" the speed that it receives. It can make the signal go further, but it cannot make the speed go faster. Think of it as a repeater, not a booster. As it stands now, you are receiving little to no benefit from the extending AirPort in the family room.
Experiment with the location of the extending AirPort at maybe 1/2 to 2/3 the distance from the bedroom to the family room. Minimize any obstructions in the signal path as much as possible. A typical sheetrock wall will absorb 10-15% of the signal (and speed), just to give you a quick example.
Get the AirPorts up as high as possible. They should not be down low on the wall or behind anything. They need a free look into the room.
There may likely be other things that we need to do to help things along, but locating the extending device correctly will be a start. Give that a try and report on your results.

  • Airport Extreme upload speed never goes past 18 KB/s

That's always been the case, and it's very frustrating when I want to upload, say, an MP3 from GarageBand or attach it to an email. Is there any way to speed it up? I'm comfortable with UNIX, if the solution requires Terminal.

I looked with a packet sniffer at the actual packets from the router to the LAN Mac.
The MacBook finder connection is usually IP6 but is sometimes IP4. Packets are no larger than 1500 and in IP4 the don't-fragment bit is set.
When it is moving a file to the LAN Mac I see this pattern on the TCP connection that is repeated:
The MacBook sends a full packet of bytes three times (sometimes with one segment missing) and they are acked. The LAN Mac acks a couple more times and then things stop for a second and a half. The MacBook resends a segment and this is repeated.
Earlier I saw a problem with large packets that become fragmented, but here things seem to fail on the 3rd or 4th of four Ethernet sized packets.
Transmitter failing after a burst of data?
Bug in OS X /n driver?
    Router dropping wireless packets?
I would think that if there is interference that the communication between the wireless router and the MacBook would cause an immediate resend.
If I knew this was a problem with the SMS Baracuda then I could get an Airport and be done with it, but I suspect my MacBook is broken.

  • Speed all over the place on infinity 2

I have been on infinity 2 now for 4 weeks after being a BT customer for 10 yrs. I was promised 58.1MB download and this is the first time I have used a Hub 3. I mainly use one device my acer laptop, that is new with wireless N that works perfectly well on my friends internet. When I use my laptop, I am usually a couple of meters away from my hub.
I have selected the best channel on my home hub 3 using InsSSIDer and placed my modem and hub in the best place possible away from interference. I have tried wired and wireless, resets and factory resets to my hub 3 (one reset to my modem) but the same pattern seems to happen.
In the morning I connect about 60MB and by about 4pm my speed drops and fluctuates from around 50MB to 20MB occasionally as low as 5/10MB. Upload is fairly consistent at 14MB
I regularly check the speed on bt wholesale, thinkbroadband and Speedtest.net and this shows the fluctuation.
This is really getting frustrating now as I predominantly use my internet after 4pm. Can anybody help with this as I don't want to contact the painful helpdesk.

Just to add my IP profile since getting infinity 2 has always been 77MB down 20MB up.
    PLEASE HELP
