DLM is a terrible beast

I've been running some tests on my IP profile over the past year. Here's my outcome (just the download)

In each instance when the profile dropped it aligns perfectly with a single switch off of the modem for 15 mins. In each instance it takes 7-8 weeks to recover.
Far too sensitive to downside and not sensitive enough on upside.
Why is it then we don't have a method of faster recovery ? I can appreciate that the DLM acts to maintain a service but what I cannot accept is the balance it presently exhibits and the faceless nature of its operation.
Right, now that's off my chest I can chill in the summer sun!

So what are we saying here?. If you turn just your modem off for over 15 mins it reacts like its 100% stable again and the DLM kicks out and your connection performs and its best throughput or not?. I'm confussed, I have never tried???. So if this is correct I will give it ago, see what results I get!. Anyone given this a try yet?.
Please click on pink star to the left and say thanks if I have helped you at all!. Thank you. Home Hub Page- http://bthomehub.home/

  • DVD look terrible

I'm currently working in a 1920x1080 HDTV1080i (16:9) sequence.  My other settings are as follows:
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
    Editing timebase 29.97
    Compressor: Apple ProRes 422
My footage was shot on XDcam frame size 1920x1080, 1080p30, 29.97 and then transcoded to ProRes422.
When I render out a reference video (with "same as"unchecked) for use in DVD Studio Pro, and then go to compressor to create a M2v, (90 min, best quality), the m2v looks horrific?  Is that just the nature of the beast when down converting or is there some other workflow I should try to get the best results possible?
The DVD has some terrible stair stepping.  Viewed both on a computer monitor, then a flat screen TV.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

i think i can help you. i guess your project is supposed to be downscaled to SD ntsc format?
    with these settings?
if thats right. i can give you the lowdown in the next reply.

  • Terrible Slowness with iMac

    Hello:
Just in the last few days, I have a terrible new problem on my iMac.   It is unberably slow.   Launching an app can take 30 seconds or more.   Something as simple as changing a tab on a browser can go on forever.
It is unbelievably strange - and a sudden development.
I checked in Activity monitor.  I have a 1T drive with 600mbs free - so that's not it.  I've got 16 gigs of memory and barely a quarter of it is in use, so that doesn't appear to be it.
But I noticed insanely slow times for things like kernel_task, and other apps.   35, 50 seconds, etc.
I upgraded to mavericks thinking maybe my OS was corrupted and a new release would fix that.   When I rebooted after the install, the machine was behaving normally.  Launched Firefox - started by quickly.   Then, at one point, I hyperlinked to a twitpic and kaboom that was it -- the machine went back to it's old molasses-like performance.    Mystifying.
Took a few screen shots of just the cpu portion of the activity monitor which I will put below.
if you can help me, explain this, anything, I'll be most greatful because I depend on this computer and I'm going completely nuts trying to figure this out on my own - with absolutely no success.   Is my CPU melting down?   Any help will be very much appreciated.

  • Resetting DLM profile

    Hi,
I'm on BT Infinity 1 and have been recieving terrible speeds over the first quarter of the year. I used to get speeds of around 30mb download and 9mb upload, now I can only get speeds of around 2mb download and just under 1mb upload.
At the end of last year my road had some line work done which affected the power, from this my router was affected and my speeds dropped. An engineer was called out to fix the problem, but I believe he didn't restart my DLM profile and so my speed hasn't increased.
Is there anyway to reset the DLM online? Or do I have to call out an engineer?
    Thanks

you need an engineer visit but if your line is stable then the DLM should automatically increase your speed and resuce the noise margin - may take a few weeks though

  • Cant stand the changes to my Maxx HD with the KitKat upgrade, text colors and keyboard terrible. How can I remove the upgrade and go back to what I had?

How can I remove this new Kitkat upgrade and go back to what I had. I cannot deal with the color on text screen and the keyboard is terrible. Can take back all the stupid pictures they added for texting. Just need it back to what it was.

Hasn't any business ever heard of the term.
IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

  • WildStar and Best Buy's Terrible Customer Support

To Anyone Who Might Read This:
Because I can't seem to get a timely response from anyone through a private message in less than 3 days, because Best Buy phone reps feign ignorance and pass me along from rep to rep like a basketball (last call was for 88 minutes; 5 reps), and because at this point I feel as though my money has been stolen from me, I will resort to posting on your forums with the desperate hope of a reply.
Allow me to frame my comments with the backstory.  On May 30, 2014, I purchased a download pre-order of WildStar Online.  I paid for the full purchase of the game (59.99).  According the Best Buy's online and instore adds, pre-ordering WildStar would give me several bonuses ingame, as well as access to the headstart weekend beginning on May 31.  The full game edition would be released on June 3, but of course I had paid in full for the game, so I expected to recieve both the pre-order bonuses as well as the full game client.
According to both my receipt and the online add, I was to recieve the pre-order bonus code by email "shortly" after purchase.  I did not.  After several hours, I contacted Best Buy by phone, and I was assured that the email address on file was correct and that I should recieve my code soon.  The following morning (May 31st), six hours after the headstart bonus I was supposed to recieve had already started, I still did not have any email from Best Buy. At that point, I found this forum, Best Buy Unboxed, and followed the instructions given by the moderators for just this issue.  I sent two private messages to BBY which included my customer service pin and the rest of the required information, but by Saturday evening at 8p.m., I still had not recieved a response.
At this point, I called Besty Buy customer service again, as I was missing out on the pre-order bonus that I had paid for, in full, in advance, and had been guaranteed by Best Buy.  The first four representatives I spoke to feigned ignorance and passed me along to the next, all with significant hold times.  After 84 minutes, I was connected with a so-called online game specialist who told me my pre-order code would be sent to me within 24-48 hours.  Perhaps you can see my dilemna here: 48 hours from that point would be approximately 9p.m. on Tuesday, June 2nd, 3 hours before the full release of the game.  With registration and the client download, I would effectively miss out on the headstart bonus I WAS GUARANTEED WITH MY PREORDER FROM BEST BUY.  And this is exactly what happened.
Once I finally recieved a response from Best Buy Unboxed and an email with my pre-order code, I was able to download and play WildStar for two days.  On June 5, the WildStar client prompted me for game time credit, and would no longer allow me to access the game for play.  30 days of playtime comes with all editions of WildStar, so I was initially confused about the prompt, but after a little research I came to find out that Best Buy was supposed to send me two separate codes:  A PRE-ORDER BONUS CODE "shortly" after purchase and a "RETAIL CODE" after release on June 3.  I HAVE NOT RECIEVE THE RETAIL CODE, SO I CANNOT PLAY THE GAME I PAID BEST BUY IN FULL FOR IN ADVANCE!!!!!!
I sent a new private message about this problem to BBY on this forum yesterday morning (6/6/14), and I have still not recieved a response.  Do you guys work on the weekends?  I also sent a reply email to Best Buy, using the "reply to" address on the email that contained my pre-order bonus code, but I have still not recieved a response.  I cannot think of a logical reason why I can't be given a response within 24 hours from Best Buy, particularly considering I have already paid in full for this product.
I am a long-time, loyal customer of Best Buy, but my confidence in your company has been shaken in recent years.  Customer service, within your stores (particularly in Mississippi), is absolutely horrid.  You representatives are not in the least bit knowledgeable, and do little more than hound customers for sales--if they aren't too busy huddled in electronics hiding from us. Phone support is equally terrible.  I should not have to spend 88 minutes on a phone call and be passed from rep. to rep. to rep. to rep. until someone figurs out how to get an item to me that I have already purchased.  It looks like I will now have to add Best Buy's electronic assistance to the list of my terrible customer service experiences, as a 2-3 day response time from you guy is absolutely ridiculous.
Since 2001-2002, I have spent literally tens of thousands of dollars at Best Buy.  I have purchased televisions, vcrs, dvd players, blueray players, car stereos, computers, movies, video game consoles, console games, computer games, music, Keurigs, surround sound systems, an Ipad Mini, an ASUS pad.....I could go on and on.  Considering my loyalty to your company, considering that the first place I want to go whenever we travel to a city that has a Best Buy is your store, considering all the money I have spent with you guys over the years.....this situation, your inability to get my the darn RETAIL CODE FOR WILDSTAR that I have already paid for, well, it just pisses me off to no end.
I am beyond frustrated.  I feel as though Best Buy has stolen my money.  Could you, actually would you (because I know you can) send me the merchandise that I have already paid for, and help to restore some of my faith in Best Buy?
    Thanks.

    Hello SEpowell,
Purchasing a digital download should be a quick, easy and painless process -- not a trying ordeal like you described -- so your frustration is certainly understandable. I'd be upset too if I found myself waiting an extended period of time for a product key, especially if there was any confusion regarding who might be able to help me find a solution.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Broken in less than a year - A terrible experience with IdeaPads

    Hi guys!
I'm hear to tell everyone about my pretty terrible experience with Lenovo and my Yoga 2 Pro IdeaPad. It's not a review or anything but more of a forewarning to those who are thinking of buying from Lenovo.
I'm also here to help others out in my situation, that is, if you are stuck with a half broken (or in my case, completely faulty) laptop and Lenovo won't help you out (fixes are in italics).
    The beginning
So I bought a Yoga 2 Pro at BestBuy in the USA about a year ago. I live in Australia so I asked about international warranty and they said that the notebook is covered by international warranty.
The day the screen flashed black and white
About a few months in the screen began flashing black and white rapidly (it goes from black to white about twice a second) for about 30 seconds to a minute. I found that you can stop this from happening if you open and close the lid a couple of times. Not really a big issue unless you set your laptop to go to sleep/shutdown when you close the lid. I don't so everything was fine.
The day the Wi-Fi NIC stopped working properly
So then a couple of months after that my Wi-Fi began to play up. I recently found out that you can prevent this from happening by ensure that you don't put any pressure on the sides of the base of the laptop (Eg. don't put your elbow on the side of the laptop and hold your head up with the same elbow).
I also worked out a while ago that you can get the Wi-Fi to work again if you go Right click Wireless Icon->Network And Sharing Center->Change Adapter Settings->Right Click Wi-Fi->Disable it->Renable it
    Here comes the bad stuff...
    Screws began to fall out
So then the screws began to fall out. I screwed a couple back in when they were wobbly but they eventually fell out without me realising. This suggests that the screw holdings have poor quality threading and as a result the screws begin to fall out. I now have 5 out of 11 screws on the backplate of notebook.
    And also the screw holdings.
Yup, the actually thing that the screw screws into fell out as well. About three of them fell out. I don't know how it could possibly do so but it did, it happened when I picked up my laptop from the desk.
And then the charger socket broke
I can no longer charge my laptop -> I now have a very expensive beverage coaster
So then the charger socket cracked in half too! Again, not really sure how it happened but it did, it might possibly be from the heat of the laptop causing the plastic to expand when heated and retract when cooled. I have the i7 CPU version so it may get hotter than normal.
The laptop no longer charges so I no longer have a laptop to use (I use my desktop to work (and occasionally my phone)).
Not to worry! I'll just make use of my international warranty...?
And then the customer service were not helpful:
And then they said I didn't have international warranty...
And then they admitted that I did...
And then they claimed international warranty does not apply in Australia...
So I emailed Lenovo customer service and they kept claiming that my notebook did not have international warranty.
I talked to Jessica, Jason, Jai, Jasmin, Jackie (why are there so many J's?) and Adam.
Eventually one of them admitted that I do have international warranty but it is not supported in Australia. How convenient for them.
The notebook has never been dropped
I am the only user of the notebook
The notebook is kept in a padded laptop bag.
I was very polite to customer service.
All I'm left with is a very expensive notebook that doesn't actually work.
As a result I can only strongly recommend that you avoid buying from Lenovo. I worry for those who have bought Yoga 3 Pro, with it's watch band design and all.
Here are some pictures I took a few weeks ago (I photoshopped the stickers out):
This is what the charger socket looks like now (Hard to take a good picture, sorry!) Note that it ha...
6 Missing Screws, 3 Missing Screw Holdings
This is what happens when you open the laptop
Hope that cuts down your options when you go out to buy a laptop! Have fun deciding!

Same issues with my Yoga, from India.
Screen (twice), wifi, charger and battery issues, SERVICE issues, no screws in the back...
Beside that my laptop USB and bluetooth is also not working and it is soo slow...
I just bought a non lenovo charger.

I was hoping to fix it in Australia and I guess not.
Avoid by any cost Lenovo products!!! ZERO service.

  • Macbook Air Terrible Battery Life

There are a series of threads on these forums regarding the rare case where Macbook Airs get terrible battery life on Mavericks, and some of them have numerous posts telling you to make a new thread about your specific issue. Here's mine.
The issues began when I did my initial Mavericks update. I had a series of really bad things happen, so I did a cmd+R reboot, and reinstalled the OS. It didn't help, so I scheduled a Genius appointment, and they wiped the drive and installed Mavericks clean.
All of the issues are gone now, except for one: my computer gets less than half the life it did on Mountain Lion. I used to get 14-16 hours of battery life on Mountain Lion when nothing was running. I just charged it to 100% and had just 6 hours of estimated life.
I've reset both the PRAM and the SMC, and neither helped. Might you have any further ideas on how to fix this?
Note: I know that Google Chrome is less energy efficient than other browsers. With that said, I used to still get well over 10 hours at 98-100% battery life on Mountain Lion with Chrome open. My usage of Google Chrome is a constant in this equation; this issue can't be so easily dismissed as being an issue with Chrome, I think.
Here's a screenshot showing a number of things (no apps being open, the poor battery life, and activity monitor)

  • Terrible service for the past few months, trouble ...

    Hi all,
I'm hoping I may be able to get more help here.
For the past few months my phone line has been incredibly crackily and faint, my broadband (not with BT) has also been cutting out for long periods of time making it almost impossible to use.
About 2 months ago an engineer came out and supposedly fixed the fault (I'm not even sure if there was one to fix) only a day later it was back to being crackily and faint.
I called up numerous times and did online fault checks, and nothing came of it, they said there were no faults!
During the past few months I noticed that when the weather is bad (wind, rain, wind and rain, frost) my phoneline is terrible and my broadband connection is non existent. I kept note of this and yup, everytime the weather is bad, so is my broadband+phoneline. It's completely fine when it's dry and calm out.
I contacted BT again (multiple times because the service is terrible) and they said there isn't a fault with my line and that I should call my ISP.
Today I called again because the phoneline was terrible as is the weather, they called my mobile to do a linecheck on the landline, then 2minutes later they put the phone down on me and never called back. I had waited over 30minutes just to get through..
It seems like I'm never going to get this fixed as it's almost impossible to deal with BT on the other end of the phone, and I can't do a fault test online because my internet is dead during the times it is bad..
I also reported that the wire connecting from my house to the telegraph pole is all loose and looks unravled, but they obviously didn't think it was a problem because they wouldn't send anyone out for it.
    What am I to do?

I called 151 and reported the fault, they found nothing wrong. As it's intermittent they are going to run a 24hr line test and then get back to me (though he said he'd call in the morning to let me know if an engineer needs to come out.. 24hrs?) fingers crossed the weather is absolutely abysmal tonight!
@HHGTTG If it eventually gets fixed, I'll probably always be waiting to let out a sigh when I see that the weather is bad. Haunted! I hope you're in the clear now.
@surfer157 Perfect, I just bought my nephew a land telescope for his birthday, now i'm going to scope out the wires if nothing comes of the 24hr line test!
My wire is all loose and looks like it has come unravled at the telegraph pole compared to the others that look like they are pulled tightly, so I'm pretty confident it's a similar, if not the same problem you had with a corroded wire. Not confident about getting it fixed anytime soon though...

  • PCI-E Audio Sounds Terrible?

For years I have been using an X-Fi Platinum PCI card and have been very happy with it. This past August it died and I decided to replace it, and do away with my SLI rig. I purchased an EVGA GTX 760 4G FTW video card and a Recon 3D Fatality Champion sound card.
I installed both with no problems. When I went to listen to music with the new card, it sounded terrible. I opened up the included software to change some settings and it took forever to load. Once the software loaded, after making a few setting changes, it froze. After multiple uninstalls and reinstalls I still had the same problem. I contacted Creative Support, and after a few emails, and sending them info on my machine, I was told to try the Recon in a different slot. I tried every slot on my MOBO, and still had issues with audio fading in and out. Music and games both. The software was less buggy in the last slot I used, but the audio was not right. Also, when using my Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 speakers, the rear speakers were virtually non-existent. The last thing I tried with the card was to disable the onboard audio in my son's machine and install it in his machine. The software worked pretty good in his machine, but the audio sounded terrible, and was fading in and out like my machine even though his machine only has a 2.1 speaker setup.
At this point Creative created an RMA, and I sent the card back to them. While I was waiting to hear back from them, I found a used X-Fi Platinum on Ebay and purchased it. Sounds so much better than the Recon. I also purchased a new X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIE card to install in my work computer.
Here's where the frustration set in. Before taking the Xtreme Audio card to work, I went through the same process on my son's machine to try out the card. Lo and behold, the audio was fading in and out, just like the Recon did. I took the Xtreme Audio card in to work and installed in my work computer. Guess what? Same audio issue. I have tried using Windows Media Player and WinAmp. Both had issues with the audio. I even installed Virtual XP and tried Music Match. Same problem. At work it is a 2.1 speaker setup using Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers.
At work, along with the company supplied PC, I also have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with a X-Fi notebook card. It is my personal laptop, and it amazing how good the notebook card sounds. My ultimate goal is to get the sound on the company PC to be as good or better than the laptop, and to be able to bring the laptop home. So far, that hasn't happened.
Meanwhile Creative did replace the Recon, but I have not opened it at this point. It is sitting at work while I decide to either try it in the work PC, or just sell it on Ebay without opening it.
Is it possible that I just ended up buying 2 defective sound cards? I am really afraid to open up the new Recon and have the same issues. Is this an inherent problem with Win 7 and PCIE sound cards?
At this point I have no plans to install a PCIE sound card in my home machine because of the issues of 2 different sound cards between 3 different computers. I even bought another used X-Fi Platinum to have as a spare.
I thought maybe that since the Recon is a gaming card, that might explain why music sounds so bad. But why does the Xtreme Audio card do the same thing?
    Computer info:
    My machine:
Asus Maximus III Formula ROG ( no onboard audio )
    i7-860 (not overclocked)
    8gb DDR3
    GTX 760
Klipsch Pro Media THX 5.1 speakers
    Win 7 Pro 64 bit
    My sons machine:
    Asus Sabretooth Z77
    i7-3770k (not overclocked)
    16gb DDR3
    GTX 560Ti
    Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Work machine:
    Cheap Dell Optiplex
    i5
    4GB
    Win 7 Pro 64 bit
Any thoughts or help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The Recon3D cards are pretty terrible. Not sure why you didn't go with the Z or older X-Fi.
I switched from Audigy 2 to Recon3D and it was beyond meh. I actually thought onboard sounded better. I then grabbed a regular Z (not Zx or ZxR) after a couple of years of using onboard junk, and it was like having an Audigy 2 back in my rig - Just without all the problems such as pops and cracks during heavy load (such as recording gameplay with Fraps) which was the reason I got rid of it in the first place.
I'm more than happy with the Z, as long as I use the .16 drivers because the new ones are really messed up. I use pretty much the same EQ settings that I used with Audigy 2 and it sounds phenomenal.

  • How long does it take for Infinity DLM to increase...

I have had a noisy line since I had infinity installed back in May this year, however as the fault was intermittent I didn't want to risk the possible £130 charge should they not find a fault. However the problem got progressively worse so I reported the fault, the engineer attended on the 19/09/14 and traced the problem to a faulty pair between the carriage way box (not the fibre cabinet) and the telegraph pole, he changed me to different pair which fixed the noise problem. I asked if he could do a DLM reset and he tried but advised that as he did not have the details for my connection he could not action the reset and to contact BT if the speeds do not increase. The fault has been marked fixed by BT as of 25/09/14
The noise on the line and the resulting disconnections over the past ~5 months have meant that my connection has dropped from its initial 75mbps to sub 40mbps, it has been 11 days since the fix but I have not seen any improvements as yet. How long should I be waiting before the speeds improve and interleaving is disabled? For information the noise on the line is gone and I am around 100-150 meters from the fibre cabinet. My HH5 stats are below.
    1. Product name:
    BT Home Hub
    2. Serial number:
    3. Firmware version:
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6 (Type A) Last updated 13/08/14
    4. Board version:
    BT Hub 5A
    5. VDSL uptime:
    10 days, 23:37:48
    6. Data rate:
    11993 / 39997
    7. Maximum data rate:
    25394 / 88566
    8. Noise margin:
    13.3 / 14.0
    9. Line attenuation:
    0.0 / 16.2
    10. Signal attenuation:
    0.0 / 16.2
Here are the results from the BT Wholesale Performance Test.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 37.76 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 40 Mbps-38.71 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.11Mbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
And here are the results from the availability checker.
    FTTC Range A (Clean)80 63.4 20 20
    FTTC Range B (Impacted)75.7 49.3 20 16.1
How long do I need to wait before I should start seeing improvements and/or need to contact BT for an engineer to visit?
    I appreciate any advice given.

It actually looks like your line has been capped to infinity one with the downstream been 39997, my mums on Sky fibre 40/10 package and that's what hers is like sometimes. Normally 39999, DLM can take 2-3 week in some cases but tbh if your fault has deffo been fixed you should have seen improvement after a few days, you will have to contact bt about this because if DLM is stuck the only way to get it unstuck is an engineer, I don't think they can reset your line at the exchange on fttc. You're getting less speed than the minimum you should get on an impacted Line so I would be asking for compensation, you're lucky that your max speed you can get is 88 meg the max I can get is 67 on a shorter line to the cabinet.

  • Infinity Order - BT Fail - terrible way to do busi...

Bit of backstory first, feel free to scroll down the the ### to read my problem
I have been eagerly waiting for Infinty to increase the speeds i currently get through my BT line (all be it through BE broadband).
The date for the service in BRIDGEND was pushed back several times, which is kind of understandable when upgrading so many exchanges and cabinets. When I decided to check last week if the date had been updated for my area, I was delighted to find out that I could order Infinity the next day !
I placed my order online when the clock struck midnight the Infinty option became available for my telehpne number and i placed the order. I followed it up the next day with a MAC code from my current provider, which I phoned through to BT.
On my account page, the order was all set up - I had an engineer visit booked for Thursday 17th March and my equipment was on its way. As the Appointment had been made I booked the day off work and waited in excitement for my new world of internet use !
    ### Fast forward to today (Tuesday 15th March) ###
My Homehub and Infinity kit (2 cables) arrived this morning - Great. Checked my order online to double check all is well, only to find that it now stated the folowing on the engineer appointment seciton of my online order page:
Your appointment is no longer required, as our engineer can connect your line without requiring access to your premises. The engineer will work to connect your line at the exchange.
This was news to me as I thought you needed an engineer to visit to install the Infinity equipment and socket in the house?
I phoned customer services and after a while on hold I was told that there was a problem with the appointment system so BT had cancelled my order completely (without notifying me).
I was told by a nice Scottish lady (im sure they use Scottish people because of their nice soothing accents!) that they was a "fault" on the order and I would have to wait 48 hours and they will call me back and start the order all over again.
This will of course place me at the back of the queue (i was probabaly the first customer to order in my area as i logged on at midnight on the availability date in the area).
I was told the engineer would not be visiting me on Thursday at all and I should now wait 48hours to "see where we are then".
OK so faults happen, I accept that. And they need to be fixed. But heres my problem with the way BT are handling this:
The fault is with the APPOINTMENT SYSTEM (according to nice Scottish lady) - not on my line, not at the exchange, not with the little green cabinet on my road, but with BT's appointment system.
So, instead of keeping my alotted timeslot (for which i have booked time off work), BT have cancelled not only the appointment - but my Entire Order ! And instead of, calling me when they saw a problem, they put a note on my order syaing "Your appointment is no longer required, as our engineer can connect your line without requiring access to your premises. The engineer will work to connect your line at the exchange."
Terrible! So they wont bother to pick up the phone and pass it through to their engineer to keep to my timeslot, they have instead cancelled my order (which, by the way, i would not have been aware of if I did not check my order screen online today - no phone call from BT), and I now have to wait 48hours before i can start the whole process again and cross my fingers that the appointment doesnt get spit out again 2 days before my next appointment (which could be in a few weeks time by now).
So in brief, If you order BT infinity, and are given an appointment,  and then their appointment system goes a bit wobbly be warned:
BT Have no contigency for when this happens, their system cancels your order outright (although still sends you a home hub), and you are told to wait 2 days before ordering again and hope the same thing doesnt happen.
Rather than calling their engineer to explain the problem and to ask to continue with the visit anyway (as there's no fault on the line) they cancel your order, dont bother to tell you they have done so, and inform you via your order page that your infinty will be connected at their end (which it wont - it cant be).
So for those returning to BT, in the hope that such a large company would have better procedures and engineer visit appointments system would be reliable, think again.
    The grass isnt always greener.
(PS If you want to complain about their poor appointment system, when they cancel appointments without telling you - you are told you cant complain until you place the order again - laughable)

  • Intel GM45 (x4500M) terrible 3d performance with intel driver and mesa

I have following problem with my Lenovo SL500 laptop. I have installed new xorg-server 1.5, mesa 7.2, libgl 7.2 and intel driver 2.4 with libdrm 2.3.1 and intel-dri 7.2 (from testing repository) and generated xorg config. Everything went fine, and Xorg.log does not report any errors. When using 2d graphics everything is smooth and fast. Problem starts when I run glxgears. Performance is terrible, I get only about 60 fps. In addition I got the following error:
    [tomek@notebook ~]$ glxgears

I'm puzzled because at www.phoronix.com they eneded up with good results with my video card (that is of course Intel x4500 as in topic )
I would be grateful if someone gave me a tip how to improve performance of my graphics card.

    Apparently yes,
    According to the thread:
To restore to the old behaviour, put this in your ~/.drirc:
    <driconf>
      <device screen="0" driver="i915">
        <application name="Default">
          <option name="vblank_mode" value="0" />
        </application>
      </device>
    </driconf>
But I don't come back to the same perfs as before (tested with eternal lands).
I noticed that in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
    (WW) intel(0): Register 0x61200 (PP_STATUS) changed from 0xc0000008 to 0xd0000009
(WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS before: on, ready, sequencing idle
(WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS after: on, ready, sequencing on
(WW) intel(0): Register 0x71024 (PIPEBSTAT) changed from 0x00020202 to 0x00020000
    (WW) intel(0): PIPEBSTAT before: status: VBLANK_INT_ENABLE VSYNC_INT_STATUS VBLANK_INT_STATUS
(WW) intel(0): PIPEBSTAT after: status: VBLANK_INT_ENABLE
There seem to be some problem with mtrr
I found this problem which seems related but I only have 2GB of memory

  • Msi terrible standard of customer care

please read my comunications with msi online help, after constantly being directed to sites to get contact details where both sites give the same telephone number to ring, which only redirects you back to the website you got their number from! i feel like neo in the matrix!! where he runs from the train station and ends up where he started!!!
    Your Question
msi k7n2 delta motherboard packed up
ive had this motherboard for almost 9 months, and now it is displaying errors.
error 1: on athlon xp3000 incorrectly reads as not installed
    properly or damaged processor.
error 2: on a 2.5 athlon xp it reads correctly but incorrectly
states memory is damaged or non working.
i have followed the instructions in the manual to clear/reset the cmos but to no avail, i have also tried removing the lithium battery and leaving the cmos in the clear position for 24 hours before replacing the battery and replacing the cmos jumper but to no avail.
i have tested both the procesors and the memory (2 x 512mhz matched pair of crucial pc3200) on my other system motherboard and these all are all fine.
i cant reflash the bios as it isnt a removeable bios and it will not even boot enough to access bios or even to turn on my monitor let alone access the floppy drive.
summary of problem: wont boot to bios
    incorrectly reports errors on processors
    incorrectly reports errors on memory
    cant reset the cmos setting
    cant reflash the bios
the cpu fan doesnt power up
its been ok for nigh on 9 months
everything works fine on different motherboard
i have read the manual cover to cover and no joy.
please help as this is less than a year old and the shop where i purchased it from has been closed down for over 5 months and the owner is beleived to have emmigrated to taiwan.
i still have the full original packing and the board is clean and non dusty.

    Thank you.

    Your Question.
i have tried the numbers given and they all tell you to go to the website, the 2 different sites give the same number!!!
i have tried to return the board to place of purchase but it isnt there anymore!!!!
this is terrible customer service, i shall be posting all my questions and your replys (yourself and the other questions i have been asking on your site as i have txt copys) on the forums so people can see that if you get problems on msi products, they just give you the run around!
the telephone numbers given go to an automated helpline that just gives websites!! that i have been on already and gave me that number!!!!
    am i in the matrix???
wheres customer service???  :wall:a human response is required not an automated response
THERE IS OBVIOUSLY MORE CONTACTS MADE BUT ONLY NOW AFTER 2 WEEKS OF BEING FOBBED OFF AM I POSTING THEIR RESPONSE OR LACK OF IT!!
I WILL BE GOING TO OTHER FORUMS AND POSTING DETAILS OF THIS AS MSI IS A HUGE CORPORATION AND DOES NOT LIKE DEALING WITH PEOPLE ON A 1 TO 1 BASIS!!
IF I WAS A HUGE COMPUTER SHOP SELLING HUNDREDS OF THEIR PRODUCTS THEY WOULD HELP ME STRAIGHT AWAY!!
WELL THEY SCREWING ME SO I AM BOYCOTTING ALL MSI PRODUCTS AND HAVE ALREADY GOT A FEW FREINDS WHO ARE WILLING TO STAND OUTSIDE THE VARIOUS COMPUTER SHOPS/STORES  IN MY HOME AREA AND WILL BE PERSUADING PEOPLE TO NOT BUY MSI PRODUCTS!
    CUSTOMER CARE? WHAT A JOKE!!

    hi richard thx
    msi k7n2 delta processor
    amd athlon 3000 xp
1 gig pc 3200 400fsb crucial ram (matched pair of 512mhz)

    1 x ide 160gig hd
    1 x ide 120gig hd
    1 x sata 200gig hd
    1 x q-tec psu 650w triple fan
    more than adequate cooling
    basicallig the system ran fine,
    then it stopped working
the d-bracket shows different errors which are as follows:
    1) it says the 3000 processor is damaged or incorrectly fitted  ( its fine on other board )
    2) it says memory is damaged or incorrectly fitted ( also fine on other board )
    3) i have tried resetting the cmos settings ( tried jumping the jumper and disconnecting the battery for 24 hours)
4)cant get to boot at all not even to turn on monitor so i cant flash the bios with floppy disk
    5) the cpu fan doesnt work on the 3000 but does on the 2500 processor:
    action taken by me:
tried 2.5 athlon xp in motherboard and it registers as there on the d bracket but then says memory is damaged or incorrectly fitted
tried jumping the cmos with no success
tried removing the lithium battery for 24 hours with no success
i have tried both 3000 xp processor and 2.5 xp processor and memory on another board and they are all fine. ???
    any help or ideas  appreiciated
    thx

  • I have done something terrible!  nopen up, 'event'  but if I click on them a triangle with an exclamation point comes up.  What have I done, how can I get them back?

I have done something terrible!  now some of my photos will not open up, I can see them in the 'event' but if I click on some of them I get a gray triangle with an exclamation point.  What have I done and how do I rectify it?

The exclamation shows when the file path/link to the original file has been broken.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
