DLNA Transcode in Windows 8(.1)

Hello, I've been reading these two threads, specifically the replies from CCazang:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/dlna-transcode-under-windows-7-broken/1c9297f5-7fc8-44b6-8a32-8dcf0dfd0e32?page=1
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/189a8a79-7b59-4de1-b45f-e7c8f26e45f6/question-about-play-to-feature-in-windows-media-player-to-dlna-onkyo-receiver?forum=w7itpromedia
My question is how is this transcoding handled in Windows 8(.1)? There is no transcode folder at the specified registry location.

Hi,
DLNA uses Universal Plug and Play. According to UPnP definition, DLNA supports three type of devices :
Server: Acts as a DLNA server and connects other DLNA certified devices in a network.
Renderer: able to render media from another DLNA enabled device. (E.g. a dlna enabled TV)
Controller: able to control a dlna enabled device to perform different actions remotely. After the type of a dlna enabled device is detected, a layer of restrictions over the types of supported media file format, encodings and resolutions is applied according
to DLNA guideline.
It is possible to make your Windows 8 computer a DLNA certified media server. Then it will allow you to connect any DLNA certified media devices to access the media files of your computer.
Please read below article to know well DLNA server how to work in Windows 8 & 8.1:

• Batch transcoding on windows?

I want to reduce the size of my 6GB music collection, all coded in 320 kbps mp3, so that it will fit on my nano. I plan to do this by transcoding to 128 kbps mp3. The files are scattered in about 30 directories on my hard drive, but they share a single root (c:\mp3\320\*). I would like to make a duplicate hierarchy with the downsampled files (c:\mp3\128\*).
Is there a windows/dos program that can transcode a directory tree recursively, or do I have to learn perl to accomplish this?

If you are not going to rerip you could just use itunes to do this for you.
Set import preference to 128/mp3
Set iTunes music folder to your new location (c:\mp3\128)
Set copy music to library.
Highlight songs you want to copy and copy them.
iTunes will make a copy and put it in the new folder.
Once you are done you just reset your iTunes preferences back to what they were b4

Please help. I am trying to add a video to a pdf using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended on windows 7 64 bit. First I tried a .wmv that I wrote out of Premiere Pro CS4. Acrobat will only complete transcoding a file if it is less than 10 Mb. Once I get a 10 Mb file transcoded, the window in the pdf goes blank when i click to activate/play. I also tried a .mp4 and .flv which also go blank when I click to activate. Any ideas? Possibly a graphics card issue? I have tried it on several computers and it won't play anywhere.
Thanks!

• DLNA "play to"(WMPDMC.exe) slideshow on "Full Screen"

Hello,
I'm using DLNA function of windows 8.1 for presenting some photo and movie files to my TV.
I think OS(windows 8.1) automatically compress image file into small one for fast viewing.
Anyone has an idea to fix this settings?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Firstly, please update your video card driver.
And then follow this article to change your screen resolution to check the result:

• How do you tell assets "Don't Transcode" in Encore CS5?

Here's the workflow: Create a project in Premiere CS5 (original source AVCHD 1hour 15min clip with titles at the beginning). Create DVD image, discover error in the title, about 1 minute into clip. OOPS! Trying to save TIME, in Premiere, cut, create new sequence with ONLY the bad 1 minute. Dynamic-link into Encore and create M2V transcode of the one minute.
Back to Premiere...import the transcode (M2V/AC3) of the original sequence. Leave AC3 alone, chop the video at 1M0Sec1Frame and drop in the transcode (M2V) of the corrected title sequence.
I now have "DVD legal" footage of the entire sequence and a perfect virtual butt-splice of the video. When I go back to Encore it should NOT have to re-transcode this footage, and the MANUAL (p. 46) indicates that the "untranscoded" setting can be set to "don't transcode" BUT THERE'S NO MECHANISM FOR DOING THIS! Now...truth be told, the transcode is relatively quick since it's basically just copying the frames from one M2V file into another one...BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TRANSCODE THIS! Problem is, I don't see where the setting is anywhere in Encore to say "Hey, idiot program...leave this footage alone! It's already transcoded!" Help...?

HI,
usually program aren't idiot.
Techs spend much time and strenghts in creating them and titling them idiot is not pretty.
Also if we pay tons of money to buy them.
But, yes, programs can do quirks.
So, anyway:
Project window/ left click over the file you do not want to be transcoded, a window appear and you can choose every setting you want.
Just pay a bit attention: there are two "transcode window".
One is relative to DVD and the other one with Blue Ray.
Just a look at the top of them.
If you do not see "do not trancode" in the options, then, Encore had to do it. (quirks?)
Hope this helps
Ciao

• Qosmio G50 129: can it be used/accessed by other DLNA products?

Hello
I have a Qosmio G50-129. I am looking to purchase a DLNA certified TV but wanted to know whether the laptop is DLNA compatible so that I could access the content from my Qosmio on the TV or if there was anything that I needed to do to make the Qosmio "DLNA compatible"?
The http://www.dlna.org/digital_living/product_types/#pc_frame website advises the below:
"Personal Computers (PCs)
Anyone who has a PC knows that they have powerful networking capabilities built into them. So, their DLNA Certified potential is determined solely by the type of software installed on them.
DLNA Certified PCs are able to act as a Digital Media Server (DMS), Digital Media Player (DMP), Digital Media Controller (DMC) or Digital Media Renderer (DMR). Most of the PCs available today start by being certified as a DMS, since a lot of us keep the bulk of our digital content on our PCs."
There is also a search and match section on the site which doesn't bring up my Qosmio model. Does this mean I cannot or is there a solution/workaround for this?
Any help would be much appreciated.
REkha

As far as I know any PC with a network interface (e.g. Ethernet or Wi-Fi) can become a DLNA device by installing DLNA software. In January 2010 DLNA began a certification program for software.
As far as I know Toshiba will offer new application in future and make DLNA usage more comfortable. It should be an interface to Windows Media Player.
At the moment you can try to use standard Windows 7 functions that should be available in Windows media player 12 (bundled with Windows 7).
To be honest I don't have other DLNA device and cannot test it but very soon I want to buy DLNA bluray player with integrated WLAN and want to have access to my PC and watch movies on TV but saved on notebooks HDD.
So pick up some info about DLNA function on Windows media player 12 and see how it works.
Please be so nice and inform us about all this.

• Encore CS5 Hangs/Crashes on Import

I'm using a desktop
(dual Xeon quad core processors) with 12 gigs of ram and Windows7. I have a Radeon video card and use a Matrox RTX2 for capture. Regardless what or how I import, I get the import and preparing transcode settings windows alternately flashing. The import as timeline finishes, while the preparing transcode settings remains at 0% and the system locks up. It ultimately give me the "Encore has stopped working window".
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

One step at a time... Ha, ha!
I tried creating a new encore file, without importing any video.
To do that, you had to have Encore open and created a new project. Encore opens the project and does not crash, right? To do that, it goes through the "loading transcode settings," apparently successfully.
I then imorted one of Encore's menus - it crashed!
When you say imported a menu, you loaded a menu from the Encore library panel? By double clicking?
Have you tried running Encore as administrator?

• Fit 3 hours of low-quality video on to one 4.7 DVD ?

I am using Encore DVD 2.0. I have 206 minutes of low-quality video I'd like to fit onto one 4.7G DVD. I would much rather sacrifice quality to get it all on one disc. The source files are mpeg-2 totaling 8 GB. Setting the transcode settings to Automatic and building the disc, I get the error that the resulting bitrate would be below Encore's 2 mbps minimum so the build fails.
Strangely, though, in two different projects now, if I keep trying to build, restarting Encore, etc, it will eventually transcode and build anyway, but I have no idea what I did to make it work.
Using a bitrate calculator with 2 channels of 192kbps dolby digital audio and 206 mins of video, it says an average bitrate of 2.5 should work.
Also, I see in the Transcode presets window that the bitrate can be set as low as 1.5. Encore help also says 2.0 is the minimum.
Also, what does the "Quality" slider under Basic Settings mean? Is that a bitrate setting or something else?
Any insights?? Thanks!!

You do have an option, but the quality cannot be guaranteed.
Create a DVD9 folder instead of a DVD5 disc.
Find & download a copy of DVDShrink.
Load the folder into this, and reduce to fit on a DVD5 - if the bitrate can be sufficiently lowered.

• Can you stream video to a PB?

I just got a PB - is there a way to stream video to a PB the way that you can with an iPad using Air Video? Either on your LAN or over the net?

Yes you can stream media you have in your home network to the playbook.
The playbook will play an AVI or MP4 on your PC, if you setup sharing this folder using http.
But then, only those videos will play which the playbook supports - and this is a very limited amount.
Better install a media server. No coding required, just a little editing of an xml file + some free software.
its not perfect, but, works acceptable for me.
download tversity. This is an implementation of an upnp mediaplayer for Windows.
The playbook is able to playback streaming media of different kinds, but it has serveral limitations, like not AC3 supported in an AVI or no mkv playback.
With tversity, you can setup a profile so that everything gets transcoded to Windows Media9. You need a Windows PC however (dont know, if there is a media-player software for mac or linux which is able to transcode to Windows Media9). Also, the PC you use should be not something old. Use a modern I5 or I7, otherwise, it wont be able to transcode all your movies in realtime.
After installation of tversity, setup the path to your library. During that, open the advanced settings of the libary, and set transcode to always.
In the transcoder settings, set Video resolution to 640x384
in when to transcode, specify "always"
choose Windows Media 9 for the encoder settings
save all,
terminate the service
open the folder where the program is located
you find a "profiles.xml"
open that with notepad or wordpad
search for xbox
below that, you find a line that reads:
<HTTPHeader outServerUA="Microsoft-Windows-NT/5.1 UPnP/1.0 UPnP-Device-Host/1.0 Microsoft-HTTPAPI/1.0
" inUASubstr="Xbox|Xenon"/>
replace that with:
<HTTPHeader inUASubstr="PlayBook"/>
A little down in the xml file, still in the xbox profile, you find:
<maxVideoInfo width="1920" height="1080" bitrate="20000000" fps="60"></maxVideoInfo>
replace this with:
<maxVideoInfo width="640" height="384" bitrate="2000000" fps="20"></maxVideoInfo>
maybe choose a higher fps, that wont hurt.
Save the file,
start the media server services
go to you playbook,
in the browser open http://ip.of.your.pc: 41952
now, you can enyjoy most of your movie collection.
What will not work perfect for me:
The html menu for browsing the library looks old-fashioned
Some movies will stream, but will be interrupted every few seconds for a half second. Dont know, if this is the playbooks fault or a problem with the tversity. Since the stream plays fine when simulating the playbook with a pc, I guess this might fix itself during the next PB updates.
What is nice:
in addition, tversity will also transcode for your blackberry, if your PB battery is down, you can continue to watch on the tiny 2.5inch blackberry screen.
btw: contrary to the documentation the PB does not support RTSP streams.

• DVD Remote "skip" Function Doesn't Work for Blu-ray Projects (CS5 Encore)

I have graduated from SD to HD and I need help.
I just finished my first HD project in CS5, burned it to a Blu-ray disk and immediately encountered a problem: the skip forward and the skip backward remote functions don’t work. (I have encountered several other problems on the way to get here but I solved those with the help of the manual and by browsing this forum ). In this project, I am doing exactly what I have done in my previous SD projects (where this function works):
In CS5 Encore, I added “Chapter Points at Intervals…”.
On the timeline Properties Panel, I kept the default selection “Operations: All Permitted” (that includes “Search for Chapter” in the “Permitted User Operations” menu).
In the “Project Preview” window, clicking on the “Next Chapter” or “Previous Chapter”, the function is executed correctly.
Still, after burning the blu-ray disk and pressing the “skip forward” or “skip backward” buttons on the Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65) remote, the “Operation is not permitted” message appears. (This very remote button function works on all my SD projects.)
More background info: I am also using Encore Chapter Markers from the PrPro project linked with Adobe Dynamic Link, chapter marker End Actions (Jeff’s The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, pp. 178-180), and Bill’s advice on using the “dip to black” transition to avoid the ~1 second gap between chapters in the Chapter Playlist that I use to play all chapters. The following observation may be unrelated: in Encore’s Monitor Panel, the “Step Forward” button with pressing the Alt key does not move the CTI to the next GOP mark. The “Step Forward” or “Step Backward” functions (without pressing the Alt key) work (moving the CTI one frame)..
At this point, I desperately need the Forum’s help.
Thanks,
- Laci.

Up to now I worked only with standard definition projects and outputted them
to DVDs. This is my HD project. My problem is that I am a bit confused with
the proper (and simple) settings for a blu-ray project. Your
questions/comments imply that I am making a "DVD project" - but then, how
can I burn it to a BD?
Here is what I am doing, and please, let me know if/where I am making my
mistake:
1. On the camcorder the recording format is set to "AVCHD 1080/60i
HA".
2. In the CS5 PrPro new project:
a. General > Capture Format: HDV
b. New Sequence > Sequence Preset > AVCHD > "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)".
3. In Encore: File > Project Settings > Basic:
a. Authoring Mode: "Blu-ray"
b. Transcode Settings: "Codec: MPEG-2; Dimensions: 1920 x 1080; Frame
Rate: 29.97, Fields: Upper Field First, Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby
Digital, Maximum Audio/Video Bitrate: 15.0 Mbps"
c. In the "Default Transcode Settings" window, the Blu-ray tab is
highlighted. (There, I could change the codec from MPEG-2 to H.264 -
according to some articles it would give slightly better quality in certain
circumstances - I don't know.)
d. On the Encore Project Panel, right clicking on the sequences, and
choosing "Transcode Settings" from the menu, I get a window that says "DVD
Transcoding" and "Blu-ray Transcoding". In the Blu-ray Transcoding section,
I choose Codec: MPEG-2, Dimension 1920x1080, Frame Rate: 29.97, Quality
Preset: Automatic Using Project Settings.
e. Going into the "Edit Quality Presets", I change the "Export
Settings Preset" to "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality" (from the 1280x720)
4. Now, in the Project Panel, under the Blu-ray Transcode Settings I
see: "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality MPEG-2".
Are these the correct settings for a high quality Blu-ray project? I am
re-transcoding the project with these settings to see if I still get the bad
transitions.
Thanks for your advice,
Laci.

• Galaxy S4 Music "License Not Available"

I'm trying to access music via DLNA from my Windows computer using the MUSIC app and Nearby Devices (this worked fine with my Droid 2). It displays all the music just fine but when I try to play anything it says "License Not Available". These are all CD's that I loaded to my PC using Windows Media Player. Like I said, this all worked fine on my old Droid 2. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Pamela. However, music downloaded to my S4 works just fine.
The problem I am having is trying to play music using the "Nearby Devices..." function using DLNA against my Windows Vista Media Player over WIFI. The music shows up but when I try to play a song that was ripped from a CD I get the "License Not Available" error. However, songs that were downloaded from iTunes, etc. play just fine. I previously was able to use this functions on my two year old DROID2 so I know there is no problem with the Media Player setup, etc.
I only get the error when trying to play songs ripped from CD's using DLNA over WIFI against Windows Media Player 11 running on Windows Vista.

• Has anyone gotten DLNA to work properly with Windows 7 x64 ?

Has anyone gotten DLNA to work properly on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Media Player 12? I got it working, sort of. It's not reliable though, and very slow. It drops the connection a lot, and when I go to engage it it connects about half of the time and half of the time it won't see the Media Server. It also times out when trying to scan my (admittedly large) music directory on my PC.
I'm sure that my hardware is ok, I think that DLNA is just a buggy system. But if anyone has it working properly with Windows 7 x64 and WMP 12 can you tell me exactly how you set it up? And if you used another desktop app besides WMP can you tell me what worked for you?
Thanks!

Try setting it up like this. Hope this helps!
Start Device Manager.
Windows 7 Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager.
The following devices are normally installed:
Anrdoid USB Devices
My HTC
Disk drives
HTC Android Phone USB Device
Modems
HTC Modem (if using as a tethered modem)
Portable Devices
E:/ (Where E represents the assigned drive letter.)
Universal Serial Bus controllers
USB Composite Device
USB Mass Storage Device
If a red X, yellow ! or yellow ? is displayed to the left of a listed device, a conflict is present and the drivers must be updated or reinstalled.
Driver conflicts may also be indicated by a device entry labeled Other Devices or Unknown.
If a conflict is present:
If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Sync device continue to step 3.
If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Modem ensure the device drivers are installed. Refer to Downloading and installing VZAccess Manager for additional assistance.
If VZAccess Manager is installed and a driver conflict is still present, continue to step 3.
Right-click the device then click Update Driver Software.
If using Windows 2000 / XP, right-click the device then click Update Driver.
The device name may differ from the example shown.
Click Browse my computer for driver software.
If using Windows 2000 / XP, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then click Next.
Enter C:\Windows\System64\driver into the search window then click Next.
The driver location can be entered manually or navigated to by clicking Browse.
If the driver software is not found, a Windows Operating System update may be needed.
Click Close.

• Windows 7 SP1 64-bit and DLNA protocol

Hi
I bought an Sony CMT-BT80WB
http://www.sony.it/support/it/product/cmt-bt80wb audio system
and I connected it via ethernet to my
LAN.
I would like to set it as the default sound system
on a computer that has Windows 7 SP1
64-bit so that all the sounds coming
from it (including the system sounds and
those coming from the Web movies, such as
Flash or Silverligth) are reproduced
from the Sony CMT-BT80WB system.
How do I do this?
I have noticed that Windows Media Player 12
plays only certain types of audio
using the DLNA protocol. How come?
How do I play all types of audio files
and audio streams of the Internet radio
with this player?
Thanks
Bye
Balubeto

Sony CMT-BT80WB can play audio content stored on the server in MP3, Linear PCM, WMA and AAC formats. Audio content with DRM cannot be played on this system. The system can play AAC files with the extension of “.m4a,” “.mp4,” or “.3gp” only.
I guess there will be no streaming if the audio format is not supported.

How should I do to make sure that
my CMT-BT80WB system is set as default sound

Is there a program-driver that allows to 'capture'
all the sounds of this computer and send them,
with a compatible format, directly to my
CMT-BT80WB system?
Thanks
