DLNA with SD to HD upscale?

Hi,
IF you have at last connected the TV to a DLNA media server, you will find out that SD videos are shown only in the middle of the screen.
Does any Toshiba TV support upscaling of SD to HD with DLNA?
Regards,
Dirk

...no answer.
This means: obviously no Toshiba TV is able to scale DLNA video !

  • DLNA with WiFi and the Actiontech router - No Go

I'm trying to create a DLNA for home so I can stream my videos from my computer over the WiFi to my PS3, Xbox360, and WiFI Vizio TV, and mobile devices. The problem is I can't get the server (using Universal Media Server) to find any devices. I've spent the past couple days browsing the forums and trying to find a solution, but so far nothing has worked. A lot of people have said disabling IGMP will fix the issue, but so far that alone hasn't resolved the problem. I did find another forum where someone mentioned disabling DHCP in the router, and when I did that I instantly saw my PS3 pop up as a renderer. It appears the problem is because my PC is connected directly to the router (MI424WR Actiontech), while my PS3 is connected over the wireless (downstairs). The connection from the ONT is MoCa and not ethernet. Since it appears the issue is with the wireless and DHCP from the Actiontech, I was considering purchasing another router and setting up a transparent bridge between the Actiontech and a Cisco/Linksys EA4500, but it appears Verizon nor Actiontech don't support it. Does anybody have any solutions to get this to work? If it's possible without using the Cisco, I'd prefer that, but anything at this point would be great. If you need more details I'll gladly provide them.
    Thank you,
    Lee

This sure sounds like the IGMP proxy problem.  If you have a 802.11n router (rev I), the IGMP proxy settings are hidden.  If you didn't find the magic URL to un-hide the settings, you may not have actually turned IGMP off.  Here's the magic:
    http://192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=6059&req_mode=0&mimic_button_field=goto%3a+6059..&strip_pag...
You need to be logged into your router for this to work.
If you have indeed turned off IGMP proxy, I'm at a loss.
    Good Luck

  • DLNA with TV LED 46VL748 - Video not supported ?

    Hi,
Have you experienced problems with the DLNA functionality of TV LED 46VL748 ?
This utility works well with Photos and Music but does not support any SD Video like simple AVI or MP4 (tested with DivX3, DivX6 and AVC)
I have a NAS (QNAP TS-439) with UPNP Twonkymedia server running and Videos are playing well with other UPNP client like my iPhone (with Twonky Mobile) or my PC.
I have the latest firmware already installed on my TV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Hi
    Users manuals - http://www.toshiba-om.net/LCD/PDF/English/VL748-4046-English.pdf
If you check users manuals on page 52 you will find a list of all supported formats for DLNA playback.
As I can see mp4 is listed there but there is also remark that some files may not be played.
    What does it mean exactly?
Because of the huge encoding on format options, which exist in the market, TOSHIBA cannot guarantee, that each file-type mentioned in the list, will also work in practice.
What you can try is to transfer your files into other supported format listed in manuals and test the functionality again.
Firmware upgrade will not help much. Decoder chips used in TVs are embedded and limited to its specification. Fact is that these decoder chipsets cannot be upgraded afterwards.
Please try to change files format and test it again. It would be nice if you can send some feedback.

  • Video/Sound delay with AppleTV on higher resolutions

I have a new Sony 55" RP SXRD HD TV (1080p max res), and just hooked up my AppleTV today. After syncing it with most of my video library and some of my music library, I tested the video appearance. My initial setting was 1080i, and I experienced major video/sound synchronization delays (similar to older DVD players where you'd hear what the person was saying 5-8 seconds before they said it on screen). This drove me nuts, so I switched down to 720p res, and while the movies played okay, the TV Shows and the Music Videos left much to be desired, and still had the same synchronization problems. To remove these issues, I finally changed the res down to 420p, but now, when I watch pretty much anything (photos, album art, TV Shows, Music Videos, and Movies), the resolution is horrible, and pixelates on my TV.
I'm trying to pinpoint this to find out if it's the TV, the connection (HDMI), or the AppleTV. Can anyone offer some advice on what to look for, what might cause this issue, and how I could fix it? Thanks so much in advance!
    AppleTV   Windows XP
      Windows XP

Sounds to me like it's a problem with upscaler. Does the Apple TV upscale? If it does, then it's the upscaler in the Apple TV and is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a firmware update. But it's weird that if it's a consistent problem with the Apple TV upscaler that these forums aren't just soaked in complaints about it. Could be only a problem with really large, say 46" or greater TVs -- that might explain the low number of complaints.
If the Apple TV doesn't upscale, then it's the upscaler in your HDTV. Prior to about six months ago, when all HDTVs got good upscaler chipsets, some HDTVs, especially the older, larger models, had absolute trash upscaler chipsets -- even the expensive quality brand models got some bad upscalers. All kinds of problems from all input sources, but not always with every device. How old is your HDTV?
For your sake, I hope it's an Apple TV upscaler problem with larger dimensioned HDTVs, as that Apple can fix for free with a firmware update. Next best choice is your terrible upscaler chipset in your HDTV supports firmware upgrades via USB or network cable and there is a firmware update out that fixes your HDTV's upscaler problems. Because the final, worst alternative, if there is no update for your HDTV available, or your model doesn't support firmware updates, it's the really bad option: drop another couple grand or more for a new HDTV of the same large dimensions.

    Hi !
    Thank you for your answer,
I saw this but there is no way to change the subtitle setting.
In "subtitle type" the only thing i can do is to swich from "normal" to "deaf and hearing impaired" ("sourd et malentendant" in french).
So i guess i will have to get used to it
Anyway, thank you for your help !

DTS is an audio format, such as AC3 or mp4. This TV doesn't support DTS, so when i play movie (such as MKV file) with audio in DTS, there is no sound (but the video is ok).

  • TV 32tl838g DLNA Video File not supported

    Hi,
I bought a new TV, 32TL838G 3D LED, but I'm not happy with it.
It says it supports DLNA, but for some reason I can't watch any video with DLNA. I had DivX activated, but it didn't help much..
And i've tried a lot of different videos (with different codecs) but I can't play any of them..
The strange part, is that I can play all those videos if I put them in a USB Pen drive..
And the problem is not in my DLNA server, as with other DLNA devices I'm able to reproduce those videos, so this is an issue with this TV.
I hope that someone here could explain me why this happens, and how to fix it, or at least that a new firmware will fix this (as if with USB videos are playable, then its not hardware but more likely a software issue)
This is completely unacceptable, when a feature is announced it HAS TO work properly.

I'm using Windows 7, it supports DLNA so I don't need to install any other software..
In TV I can browse all movies and folders that I have shared in my Win7 computer, the problem is that I can't watch any movie ,as it says File not supported.
If I put the same movie in a Pen Drive, and plug the pen drive in the TV than I can watch it without any issue..
The problem is when I try to watch movies in TV using the DLNA..
The TV is connected to LAN by wire, not wireless..
Again, In other devices, like with my Android phone, I can watch movies that I have in my Win7 Computer without any issue, using DLNA (with Samsung Allshare app)
    Thanks

  • Media Encoder CS6 won't render queued project from Pr CS6

What's up with Adobe? All of a sudden, Pr CS6 no longer works with AME. I Queue from Pr and AME launches with file in Queue. I press Render button, and it takes several minutes before anything shows up in a the Encoding tab. When it does, I get an endless "Connecting to Dynamic Link server..." message, before finally, after several minutes, it fails. Log states that it can't read the source file. I suspect this is a Dynamic Link issue, since the source file is exactly where the log says it should be. I've noticed recently that Dynamic Link hung up also when trying to send a clip to Ae to round trip effects back to Pr. I just ended up doing the work in Ae and imported it manually into Pr. So much for the heralded 'interoperability'. You spend a couple grand on CS6 Master Collection to have all the tools, and many of them have all kinds of issues. Au, for example, crashes 75% of the time when I open it. Reopen it again and it works fine. Ae often continually gives me 'program has stopped working' dialog with an option to quit, and many times it is talking about one of many instances it has launched in the background, and when I say 'quit', the main program I see just keeps on working. And now, out of the blue, Pr / AME queuing stopped working. It's worked since I installed CS6 over a year ago with no issues, with th elast time being about a month ago, now it doesn't. BTW, I'm on CS6 on an HP Z820. Win 7 Ultimate. And I tried all the solutions posted under the similar problem someone posted about the CC version. Confirmed that dynamiclinkmanager is running.

    > Adobe tools aren't the best option for upscaling.
    Huh?
If you can find something better than After Effects CC (12.2) with the Detail-Preserving Upscale effect for up-saling, I want to know what it is.

  • Media Encoder CS6 won't uprez alpha channels

I have been trying to convert some files i created in both animation codec and AVID codec with alpha from 720p to 1080i/p but if i have the alpha set to rende, it creates a file with the video blown out and edges aliased. Same files if i turn the alpha off render (uprez) perfectly. these can be a lot of files, so i'm trying to run them all thru Media Encoder instead of tieing up AfterEffects. Any clues?
PS i am using the dynamic link functionality to render these movies
    thx

  • Premier Pro CC and Media Encoder crashing on long file export.

Please forgive the length of this inquiry. But it is complicated and has a lot of variables.
I have an hour long mixed format timeline both Red 3K footage and Black Magic ProRes 1080P footage that I want to make a DVD from and it takes forever and crashes half way through. I have tried doing it every way possible and the only way I was able to get even a partial export was using the "MPEG 2 DVD" export option in Premier CC. It goes fast at first telling me it will take about 2 hours but even though it starts quickly doing about 15 fps it slows down to less than 1 fps and finally just stops and crashes my Cuda Core enabled Macbook Pro Laptop.
I really don't know who to ask about this since there are so many different variables. I never had a problem like this on my MBP with PP6 on a 4K timeline exporting to DVD or Blue Ray or to H-264 or Even Prores. But I wasn't mixing formats either. But on this project the first 20-30 minutes of footage goes through fine in a couple of hours but something seems to be bogging down the system on longer projects. My work around was to break the project up into multiple exports and combining them on the DVD timeline but I can't do this on every project. I thought maybe it was a corrupted clip somewhere in the timeline but when I broke the timeline up into several parts I had no problems.
I did notice a dramatic variance in the time it took to export footage based on the sequence settings. A one minute timeline comprised Red 3K footage and ProRes 1080P footage Here are some sample export results:
From a Red raw 3K timeline 2880x1620  with 1080P Prores footage upscaled 150%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format    1:48 Minutes ***
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ  1080P                         22 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                    22 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                22 Minutes
From a 1080P timeline Prores footage at 100%  (Red footage downscaled to 67%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format                         13 Minutes
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ 1080P                             13 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                                                             14 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                            14 Minutes
Since I am going to DVD,  I chose the fastest option  Red to m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format which only took 1:48 per minute. Why? I have no idea. Maybe someone here knows the answer. But again these numbers are for a ONE MINUTE clip when I tried to convert the whole hour timeline to  the 720x480.m2v DVD File the Red timeline froze my computer after several hours even though I had set sleep mode to “Never” and turned the display off manually and I had to convert it in multiple chunks. In 20-30 minute chunks it did go fast about 1:48 per minute like the test indicated. But I would like to be able to convert the whole hour and not to have to try to stitch the clips together in my DVD authoring program.
I don’t want to have to avoid using multiple formats on the same timeline or waste time transcoding everything to the same format.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why the computer is crashing or bogging down in long exports and what timeline settings I should be using?
I have plenty of room on my Scratch Disk and 8 Gig of RAM and according to my Activity Monitor during the export process  have about 800 Meg of System Memory during export but the CPU Usage is 98% and in my Activity Monitor I see under “Process Name” ImporterRedServer flashing up at the top of the list about every second during export.
Why .720x480 mpeg DVD setting is so much faster than all the other export codecs?
And if there are any other settings I can use to get higher speed exports in HD? 14x1 seems a little slow especially since every time it crashes I have to start over.

    Hi,
Since a long time I did not encounter the crash of Media encoder with
    long file export.
But I take care of a lot of details before the export :
    - clean up Media cache and Media Cache Files within PP CS6 and/or CC,
    - delete all render files with Preview Files,
    - rendering of sequences until the rendering is completed,
    - PP CS6 and/or Pp CC opened during export to AME and/or Encore CS6,
I guessed to leave Adobe but this company remains the last with a
serious authoring software (Encore CS 6).
    I tested :
    - Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, both are very good software but
no really authoring software for these video editing softs.
Th only way is to "flood" Adobe with "bug reports" and "wish forms"
which are not very easy to use.
And also to call the Adobe support day by day until they send they
    escalate the bug.

  • Massive text quality loss exporting from CS6

I have tried every single render setting from hd presets, uncompressed, h.264 and all different bit rates and max render settings and I keep getting the same result... Low quality text.
    The project is dv
All I want is the video too look identical to the one in my preview window.
The text was created in premiere and I did not download it from the internet.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
I have never encoutered anything like this before and will have to go back to Final Cut if this is unsolvable
    please help!

If your project is DV then export to a format with SD settings. Upscaling DV to HD is only making it worse.
What is your source exactly and what is your sequence settings.

  • Up & down scaling

Just out of curiosity...  a technical question.
Given a situation with a 720 comp with 720 footage, then upscale this to - say 125%  I'll obviously get some  quality degrading as consequence.
But how would this compare toa situation where I put equivalent 1080 footage in a simaliar (720) comp ad downscale accordingly, how would this affect quality changes?
It is tempting to believe that this last mentioned approach should give abetter result, - but then again I don't know much about such technicalities.
    Anyone ... ?

Down sampling is always a better option that up-sizing. Both operation can be improved using third party plug-ins. Magic Bullet instant HD does an amazing job up-sizing images. There are a bunch of other options.

  • Wi-Fi problems after installing Anna

So about week ago, Anna was released for US variants. I decided to do a clean flash (3 finger format) because I simply wanted everything to work properly.
So far, I'm very happy with the upgrade, much better than PR1.2
The only problem I have is with Wi-fi. When I start the phone, it connects to wifi automatically. I try to disconnect it, but it doesn't seem to work, it just reconnects by itself. After a while, it turns off and everything is fine. Next thing is, I manually connect to a network, boot up the built in browser, try to load a page, the phone disconnects and asks which network I want to connect to. Also, I tried this with Nokia Play to. It seems to work fine for sharing pictures and music, but not too well with videos. It starts to buffer, then disconnects, and tells me that I have to be connected to a network in order to continue using Play To.
Opera Mini and Mobile seem to work fine. Other than that, I'm not much of an app lover, so I don't have apps that would use data.
Basically, this happens when I try to load pages (pages with alot of content), or share huge files over DLNA with play to (HD videos). It seems like the phone disconnects when it reaches a certain amount of data by using these apps. Also, as mentioned above, phone just connects to wifi automatically, and "refuses" to disconnect even when I try to disconnect it manually when I power on the phone.
P.S. My wifi settings are: Show wifi availability: Never
    Power Saving: enabled
    Switch to Wifi: manual

Sometimes the warning means that you have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
Sometimes a device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
A third-party wireless router that has incompatible settings or firmware may be the cause. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.
Rename the computer in the Sharing preference pane.

  • ITunes needs DLNA service to share m4v (with Smart TV)

I am really annoyed with Apple over this one.  Over the years I have spent thousands of dollars legally acquiring DRM-protected content for my personal and home use.
I am in the process of acquiring the first 50 Gb of 150 Gb of an old TV favorite.
Now I learn that none of the Windows PC ---> Smart TV media sharing options will handle the native .m4v DRM-protected format.  Both Plex and Serviio let me listen to .mp4 files in my iTunes folder.
If Apple does not create some sort of iTunes System Service for the PC to share out such files via the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) that is fast becoming a standard then the only ways that I can possibly watch this on the big screen with the home theatre sound experience is :
screen mirror from a 1920 x 1080 PC screen to a 48" HD Smart TV in another room... you can imagine how cumbersome that will be and I will have thrown away the premium paid for the HD version in the process and it will be ugly and sound terrible
purchase an Apple TV box for $100 or so with no prior guarantee as to how well it will work in my circumstance
use some sort of converter to strip the DRM protection and chew up even more space and time and create questionable files in the process
You can imagine just how unintuitive any of these three choices will be for the rest of the family.
C'mon Apple!  Make version 13 of iTunes lucky for everyone and move back towards the one-button-for-all of Mr. Jobbs...
Add an optional DLNA system service / listener to serve up DRM-protected .m4v files on the fly over the same subnet.  Require adding the devices' MAC addresses once if you have to control access but let me use what I've paid for as easily as possible.
