DM 3.0 database repository

when are you going to connect the tool
to a proper relational database repository
instead of using those stupid xml files

While many users really want to access a full database based repository, we have found in the last year or so that application developers are working with a much broader range of files. Using a tool like Subversion to manage all these different files has become standard in many companies and it makes sense for them to include their modeling designs in their Subversion repository. Interestingly enough, we have had users who did not want to move from a database repository who have now successfully made this transition.

    Hi,
You can't share the same repository for multiple domains.

  • OPA work with database repository

Does OPA work with database repository?

OPA does not provide direct database connectivity. Your application retrieves all necessary data, then passes it to OPA for performing auditable determinations and calculations.

  • Data Modeler goes to Oracle Database Repository ?

    Hi Philip,
Thank you very much for your quick answer. Hope that this forum is the correct one right now.
To us it seems to be inpossible to use the data modeller v3.1 with SVN.
The recent designer-toolbox hasn't been updated by Oracle since 2007.
That's why we have created various interfaces and workarounds of our own:
    A cg-refcode-interface with multilingualism, a table- and module-api, a hyperion application
to generate ddl-statements from case-repository (using user-extension for the new features of v10g).
These interfaces would not be possible with XML structure and would be discarded.
Central data modeling is a strategic approach for our company (financial) and has been
    classified with risk class 1.
Because of this fact, I'd like to ask again:
Is there a timetable for converting Oracle's Data Modeler from XML structure to database?
By the way: This was promissed by Mrs Sue Harper in 2007.
    Regards,
    Reinhard

    Hi Reinhard,
To us it seems to be inpossible to use the data modeller v3.1 with SVN. Why is that? Is it forbidden to use SVN in your company or you have other reasons.
Is there a timetable for converting Oracle's Data Modeler from XML structure to database? Not for functional repository. We have reporting repository and our target is all information to be there. You can have history of your designs (snapshot at specific time) in reporting repository and then you can run your tools against it.
That's for the moment. I'm not going to make other promises.

  • Single Oracle Database repository to support SOA and OIM is it possible

Hi, I'd like to install and configure SOA and OIM and would like to know if I can use one database as the repository to support SOA Suite install and OIM install ?
In a development environment is it safe to install SOA Suite 11g and OIM 11g on the same server with all of its components? This is only for the development environment. Thanks

    Hi,
I feel you can do it with single Oracle Database, check the below links:

  • Could not use 11g OWB with 10.2 database repository

    Hi all,
I am using 10.2 database and 10g R2 OWB and in the forums I read that 10g R2 have problem (no materialized view created when pre-aggregating ROLAP cube .
So i downloaded the 11g OWB standalone, but I could not login into the sqlplus of 11g OWB, as mentioned in (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_owb/owb11g_update_extend_knowledge/less1_setting_up/less1_setting_up.html)
I have tried to login with password that i have for 10g database and also one i mentioned in configuring WF (both were same) ,also change_on_install and oracle .
Could anyone please suggest me how to login.
Please also suggest if that bug as mentioned above exist or if there is any workaround/patch so I can use 10g r2 OWB itself.

    Thanks for the response, Greg
I understand ur point completely, I might have sounded confusing when i said repository. I actually meant 10.2g database.
As u mentioned I followed that step: But when i did steps mentioned below i could not login inside:
Note: The method by which you invoke SQL Plus is important. Do not invoke SQL Plus from Start > Programs > Oracle database home folder or Warehouse Builder folder! Instead, invoke SQL Plus from Start > Run > cmd.exe. Type the Path command and press Enter. You want to check that Warehouse Builder is near the front of the path statement, so that the SQL Plus session will invoke from the Warehouse Builder installation. If not, you may need to temporarily set the path, such as Path=<Warehouse Builder home>\bin. Then invoke SQL Plus as SYS with SYSDBA privileges. For example, at the command line you might type: sqlplus sys/<sys password> as sysdba.
what password for sys should i use ?
I used following paswords but none worked: pasword for sys account while installing 10g database, oracle, change_on_install.
At installation of OWB 11g it doest not ask for any password also.

  • Client variable database repository exception handling

We have recently had 2 incidents where client variable
database storage appears to have failed in our clustered
environment. We have 2 servers that share a sybase 12.5.2 client
variable repository (CDATA/CGLOBAL). The problem seems to be
occuring when a table that the application uses gets blocked by an
unrelated application. When this happens, client variable storage
seems to fail - the 2 servers apparently use whatever client
variables they have in memory rather than getting the values from
    CDATA.
There are no exceptions thrown, the application continues to
function normally except that each server has it's own copy of the
client variables. When we kill the process that has the table
locked up, the servers start using CDATA normally again.
The page that is getting blocked by the external process does
not update any client variables, but it does read them. The
inconsistent client variable problem occurs on other pages, not the
    one being blocked.
I was able to sort of recreate the problem. I found that if I
renamed CDATA, no error is reported to the user. The database
exception (table not found) is logged, but not thrown on the page.
To the user the application appears to function normally. So this
demonstrates that updates to CDATA which result in database
exceptions fail silently and are not thrown to the page.
Has anyone else experienced silent exceptions in CDATA
updates? Are there any workarounds for this behavior? Our
application relies on client variables being consistent across
servers and really need for exceptions to be thrown to the page so
    that the user is aware.
    Additional Info:
    CFMX 7.0.2
    Windows Server 2003 SP1
    database is sybase 12.5.2

This is one of the "classic" design problems in this kind of architecture. And, unfortunately, the answer is "it depends on how you think you need to handle it." And I'm sure there are plenty of "gurus" that will tell you one way or another is the only way to do it.
I'll be more honest: I'll give you a couple of personal suggestions, based on experience in this architecture. These are suggestions - you may do with them what you will. I will not say this is the best, most correct, or even remotely relevant to what you're doing.
If it's simple data validation for "typing" (e.g. String, number, Date, etc.), that is taken care of when you attempt to stuff in the information into the appropriate DTO. If it's more "sophisticated" than that (must be in a certain range, etc.), that particular checking should probably be delegated from your Controller to a helper class. That not only saves the "expense" of transmitting the information back and forth across the wire, it's "faster" to the end user so say "Ooopsie" by redirecting back to the form right then. Basically the same thing if the types are wrong.
That only leaves the "big" problems in the business layer (EJBs), where you have to deal with concurrency, database failures, etc. Generally these kinds of exceptions are thrown back to to the Controller in one of two forms:
    1) a sublass of RuntimeException, which signals that some Very Bad Things have happened in your container. EJBException is one like that and you can see where it's being thrown from.
    2) a subclass of Exception, also called "application exceptions." They are usually something like a "duplicate record" or a validation-like error (which you mentioned) like a missing field. They're used as a signal to a failure in the logic, not the container. That way you have to decide at what layer of your architecture they should be handled and/or passed on to the next.

  • Database Repository

Currently I have Oracle 10g portal (9.0.4.0.99) installed using this database and want to plug-in the Oracle Files component into this installation. Is this a possible install and if so is it possible to use the existing portal database that is currently 10g using ASM for a storage system for the Oracle Files repository? I am not really interested in the rest of the collaboration suite and only own licenses for the files portion of collaboration suite. Any hints or documents to point me in the right direction is appreciated.
    Thank you

Your terminology is very confusing. Understandable for a new user. But that means you will have to explain in detail to ensure we understand you properly.
For example, in traditional Oracle terms, a repository is a specific special-purpose schema inside an Oracle database. And that would be created by creating a database user with appropriate privileges to create objects, and then creating the objects.
    So - detailed explanation please.
You might also want to read the first chapter of the Concepts manual for either 9i or 10g - available at http://tahiti.oracle.com

  • How to create an OWB Repository in a database

By default a database will have a repository installed into it. One has to create a workspace using Repository assistant within the repository.
    database> repository> workspace
    Question:
    1. How can I create a new repository [either in same or a new database]?
    2. Can one database have multiple repositories or is it limited to only 1?
    Thanks!

    >
Also, on 10g, how do I go about creating a repository.
Please note I'm aware of using Repository assistant to:
    create workspaces on 11g and
create repository owners on 10g [we create owners and not workspaces on 10g]
In both the cases where do I define a specific repository, where do I give the name of repository etc.
In 10g ,OWB Owner is nothing but the schema which holds OWB repository
If you are creating a new OWB Owner that means it is a new repository.
If you are creating/registering a new OWB user when you can choose an existing OWB repository/owner to which the new user will be associated with.

  • License policy for separate Repository database

Oracle App Server includes Oracle Database to store repository. It annonce that this database does not require separate license intil it used only as repository.
On the other hand there is concurency between database and application server,
thus for high perfomance solutions this repository database has to be moved from Oracle Application server to separate server
(the new database creating and uploading Repository schemas).
How do you think this new database, does it require the separate license?
If require should it be App Server License or RDBMS license?
The same situation with WebCache module of Application Server. If I move it on the separate server, should I pay a separate license?
    Does anybody knows?

Apps server licenses do have many gotchas.
Oracle App Server includes Oracle Database to store repository. It announce that this database does not require separate license intil it used only as repository.
On the other hand there is concurency between database and application server, thus for high perfomance solutions this repository database has to be moved from Oracle Application server to separate server (the new database creating and uploading Repository schemas).
How do you think this new database, does it require the separate license?
If require should it be App Server License or RDBMS license?
Apps server infrastructure server - This is the part of the application server that contains the need for a Oracle database server. It is used for the meta data repository.
A part from the Toplink ed all Application server licenses include the following restricted use license +"The Oracle Database is provided for use with iAS Infrastructure for storing product metadata. Storing any other data in the Oracle9iAS Infrastructure database requires a full use license of the Oracle Database. "+ Thus you do not need a separate database license.
N.B. However moving the database to a shared oracle databases server will require a license as you are not allowed to mix the different types of licenses on the same server.
Thus I would recommend you use a infrastructure server with Apps server infrastructure and database unless you go for ultra high availability which requires RAC meta database repository and primary and secondary infra server.
However that is a totally different can of worms when it comes to licensing.
Remember that your infrastructure server requires a App server license. Just which one depends on what you are doing.
If you give more details I can offer advice. Will need to know server and apps component info.
The same situation with WebCache module of Application Server. If I move it on the separate server, should I pay a separate license?
WebCache is a product that would be nice to split onto a separate server BUT Oracle AS license scheme does not make it cost effective. A point i have been making to Oracle for years :0 .
WebCache servers require their own App server license.
Just what license is again down to what you are using it for.
    Does anybody knows?
Well I hope from my answer you may have guessed I get asked a lot of questions about licenses but that is why we have architects and OSC.
Thus I think I can say I know but may be someone from Oracle Business Continuity in your home country should have given you the answers also. If you can ever contact them ;-).

  • Registering MDS Repository (Database based) with IntegratedWebLogic server

    Hi,
I am currently using Oracle JDeveloper 11g Rel 1 (11.1.1.2.0) (JDeveloper + ADF) to create a rule-enabled non-SOA Java EE application with Oracle Business Rules. Please find below the steps I have followed
    1. Created rules in an Oracle Business Rules dictionary using an XSD schema.
    2. Created a servlet that uses Oracle Business Rules
    3. Created a html page to get the input and to submit the data to the servlet.
I wanted to deploy the application on to integratedWebLogic Server. Before deploying the application, I have installed Repository Creation Utility (RCU) and create a database-based MDS Repository using RCU.
I understood from the documentation that before I can deploy an application to MDS Repository, I should register the repository with the Oracle WebLogic Server domain. To perform the same, firstly I have started my integratedWebLogic Server instance and navigated to the integratedWebLogic Server admin console. In the Default Domain, I do not see an option to register metadata database repository.
Please let me know if I had to download any additional components to register the repository with the IntegratedWebLogic Server domain. Appreciate any help/suggestions in this regard.
    Thanks
    Sanil.M

I solved this problem by running it via
    wlst registerMDSRepository.py

    Hi,
You should use an nfs server, sftp or ftp repository for backups only, something that is dedicated for storage. I would not recommending using anything that is used for production which needs internal storage to take on the task of managing another applications data.
As far as the the first question, i am not talking about the purging, i am talking about the scheduled application backups:

  • Should multiple developers share the same MDS repository?

We are starting a new customizable application using ADF, WebCenter and SOA Suite 11g wondering what is the best practice for MDS repositories. By default JDeveloper seems to use a file-based repository, however we need to take advantage of a database repository. The question is: Can & should multiple developers share the same MDS repository, or do we need to use the RCU tool to create a new repository for each developer? If developers share the same repository I"m wondering what happens to seed customizations if two developers both edit the same thing (like a SOA composite).
    Thanks for your input

Thanks again ... I'm not so worried about packing the customizations in the EAR or MAR, I just hate developers having to manually change adf-config.xml from source control all the time.
I've tried using {oracle.home} and it does not work. This seems to be a bug in JDeveloper, because I print the env variable and verify that it is correct but the deployment still fails.
    In adf-config.xml I have:
    <property value="*${oracle.home}\integration*"
    name="metadata-path"/>
When WLS starts up, I print the env variable and see it is set to: D:\home\fmw\JDEVEL~1
But then when I try to deploy my application I get this:
INFO: MDSException encountered in parseADFConfigurationMDS-00503: The metadata path "D:\home\fmw\jdeveloper\system11.1.1.1.33.54.07\o.j2ee\drs\PriceManagementPOC\adf\META-INF\D:\home\fmw\JDEVEL~1\integration" does not contain any valid directories.
For some reason it seems to be appending the directory of adf-config to the oracle home directory. It's as if the code assumes its a relative path. Looks like a bug to me.

  • How to Integrate DERBY Database to XI?

I am tying to store an XML format data recieved from a web service to Derby Database of Netbeans Studio.
Is this possible then which XI adapter should I use in the Communication channel configuration?
    Any help will be great?

    Hi,
How are you planning to upload the database. Are you planning to go with direct DB access from XI oe any shared folder, where you store this data and then some batch program etc uploads the database..
First of all sender side, you can use SOAP adapter as you mentioned it is a Webservice.. But in the receiver I am not sure JDBC adapter does support this.. first of all you can find out about database properties, drivers etc.. like MS SQL etc..
Then you can think of JDBC adapter. Else, you can dump the file into database repository and then some other job will upload the data..
    Just my views
