DM 4.7 froze during backup - stalled at Content Manager

My son just got a replacement Tour. Prior to switching devices, he backed-up the old device without incident. Afterward, he utilized the Device Switch Wizard which also went without a hitch. The new device then came away being a mirror of the old. After he was satisfied that everything was intact, he attempted to backup the new device which failed. During the backup process, the progress bar stalled at the Content Manager. An error message popped-up stating that the backup process failed and DM was unable to continue. Clearing the content manager files (leaves 23 by default) yields the same results.
What is the content manager? Why did it backup on the old and not the new device (they should be the same files)?
Anyone have any idea what's up?

Any help? ...PLEASE

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?

  • Time Capsule internet stall during backups

Just started to happen recently but it looks like everytime the backup starts, my internet connection begins to stall. As soon as the backup is complete, my internet is working again. It's not like the backups are large sizes, not sure what's going on. The TC had been working great for the past 6 months and this just started to happen the last couple weeks. Other than no internet during backups, it works well. Any ideas?

I am running it via wireless. Typically the RSSI is around 70, this last time when the internet stalled during backup the RSSI was down in the 54 range. I know there have been backups hourly or so but when my internet stalled just a few minutes ago, it was the first time since I posted the first msg in this thread. I still haven't figured out anything common for when it does stall during backups.
You'll notice that the value for RSSI is a negative number, so the larger the absolute value, the worse the connection. I also see an RSSI value of -70. My wireless network performance is so poor at that value that I use an Ethernet connection instead.
Even if the noise on your link is as low as -90, that only gives you a signal-to-noise ratio of 20 (-70 minus -90), which according to the second message of this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10329543
qualifies as a "low signal". If the noise on your link is higher (a smaller absolute value), then the SNR value will be worse and your throughput will suffer accordingly.

  • TC stalled during backup; no entries on TM/Backups

My TM is wired to my iMac and wirelessly to other MacBooks for backups only.  iMac connects to my network wirelessly and to Internet via provider's modem/router; TM is wired to the modem/router although not used for Internet acceess.  After successful backups for 6 months my TC stalled on 10/30 leaving an entry on the TM/Backups.backupdb/myimac of:2012-10-30-210349.inProgress/ with 8 KB package.  Sometimes I don't see TM listed on Devices in Finder, sometimes I have to reboot TM to get it recognized.  When the backup starts (either auto or manual) it finds the backup disk and starts the backup.  I'm never around to see the end  but no complete backup entry is recorded on the backup list.  The lastest backup on the TM Preference still shows the last good backup on 10/30.  Today, since I'm on the computer, I saw a message saying TM cound not complete the backup as the backup disk image "Volumes/Data-1/My iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use.  How do I get it to start backup normally?

Provider's line (40Mbps) comes into a modem/router they supplied.  My iMac, 2 MacBookPros, a PC laptop, 2 printers, and a 2 Roku boxes, connect to a wireless network to the router.  The TC connects via Ethernet to the router.  For backups the TC connects to the iMac via Ethernet to expedite backups, and to a MBP via wireless net.  The other MBP backs up to an external drive and doesn't use the TC. I want to eventually b/u the PC to the TC.  One laser printer is connected to the TC's USB port.
The TC is connected directly to the computer but I didn't disable the wireless portion as only the MBP uses it wirelessly (don't know if that's possible).  Currently the TM Preferences screen shows no Oldest Backup and no Latest Backup.  When it got time to do the next scheduled backup the time jumped forward an hour or so w/o starting the backup.  Selecting the Disk "Data on Time Capsule" started the backup after it found the disk.
I did not reboot the whole network as the other computers and TV eqpt use the modem/router for Internet access and share printing on inkjets.  I did turn off the other computers and printers during one reboot w/no difference.  The iMac has no network problems; can access Internet and shared folders and printers on other computers.  The only problem it has is completing backups.  Right now the Finder/TM Backups/Backups.backupdb/my iMac shows all backups until 2012/10/30 and the final entry is 2012/11/03.in progress.  I had deleted earlier (10/31,11/01 etc) in progress entries when backups stalled in case they were causing the backups not to restart automatically.

  • Froze during BIOS Update

    Lenovo 3000 n200 0769 BRG
As per the title my laptop froze during a bios update, I now have a €300 paper weight.
When turning on the fan spins, the cd tray works, but the screen stays blank and only a single power light stays on. I tried starting the machine with no RAM inserted to see if the bios would beep. It didnt.
I think i need to reset the CMOS  and in another thread there were instructions as follows " two exposed metal traces labelled CLRP1. You need to short those traces together for a few seconds."
I can get to the traces CLRP1, but it doesnt work.
Could someone please verify how to short those? What do you actually do?
I lightly pushed a flat head Metal screwdriver on the traces, also tried a paperclip, other screwdrives, and basically everything metal.
Could someone clarify what needs to be done? Thanks so much

If the bios is corrupted, yes, it may be bricked.
Search the web and these forums for "phoenix bios recovery"
there may be some hope. I have never tried any of the solutions
I have found about a Bios recovery disk.
The solution for a bios "hard reset" on my N100 was to dis-assemble
it to the point where I could short the leads of the bios backup battery
for about 5 seconds. The bios on mine was not corrupted, though.
Find the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your laptop model HERE
and look for how to remove the top cover. The battery is probably
on the bottom of the motherboard. A bit tedious and complicated
if you are doing something like this for the first time.

  • Itunes crashed during backup and I can't get help from apple support on the

    website.
Stupid Itunes crashed on disk 41 of 46 when backing up.
There is no help available on the apple website and no way to request help on the apple website for any issue with Itunes.
How do I fix this problem?
How do I tell Itunes which disks it backup up so it won't try backing them up all over again. Did it destroy a list of what was backed up? What's going on with itunes anyways? Does it always crash when it backs up this many cds? I don't want to start all over again and ruin another 41 CDR disks trying to back it up. How do I get it to continue from where it crashed or do whatever has to be done to get it to resume where it crashed during backup?
Stupid program wouldn't let me do anything after it crashed. said it will take a minute or two (more like forever) to cancel backup. Don't even know why it was trying to cancel the backup. I didn't tell it to.

Apparently there are some bugs in the latest itunes. DO NOT USE ITUNES TO BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY! UNLESS IT COMPLETES THE BACKUP, ITUNES IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FILES WERE BACKED UP. TECH SUPPORT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE ITUNES KNOW WHAT FILES WERE BACKED UP SO IT CAN CONTINUE FROM WHERE IT LEFT OFF. AFTER 41 CDS WORTH OF BACKUPS, ITUNES CRASHED AND IT TRIED TO CANCEL THE BACKUP BUT NEVER FINISHED DOING THAT.
SO AFTER 60 CDS WORTH AND ABOUT 6 HOURS OF WASTED TIME, THE ONLY WAY IS TO BACKUP THE ENTIRE LIBRARY ALL OVER AGAIN WHICH IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, TIME, AND CDS WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK ANY BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND.
EVEN TRYING TO RESTORE FROM CDS DOESN'T TELL ITUNES TO UPDATE ITS LIST OF BACKED UP FILES. I'M SURPRISED THAT SUCH A BIG BLUNDER WITH ITUNES HAS GONE UNNOTICED.
ITS A SERIOUS ENOUGH ISSUE THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I BACKED UP MY ITUNES TO HD AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS SO OBVIOUSLY ITS AN ITUNES ISSUE.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, ITS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM TO PUT SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT INTO GETTING NOWHERE.

    allocate auxiliary channel aux1 type 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS="BLKSIZE=262144";
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO DUP ;
    }

I think there is no workaround and this is expected behavior - atleast till 10.2. If you refer oracle documentation, it says that it requires target database in either MOUNT or OPEN stage to duplicate database using RMAN. So RMAN will get current physical structure information about target database from its control file and when any file is not there in the backup, it will give error. Only way to resolve this is to take backup of these datafiles through RMAN either as backupset or copy. ( I think oracle can take hint from here and make RMAN database duplication possible for which backup is not available - its a small change in code - if backup not found, then start taking backup. Already in 11g, during RMAN duplication, RMAN can use backup from other server)

it depends. at the beginning of every backup TM checks to see what needs to be backed up and does it. at the end of a backup it does another very quick backup to see if anything has changed since the start of the backup. if you move a file after TM already backed it up it will back it up in both places. if you move it before it has a chance to back it up, it will only back it up in the new location.
thanks is it reccomended not to use a computer during backup?
no, you can use the computer normally while the backup takes place. it's not supposed to interrupt the work flow. Indeed, given the fact that it runs every hour it would be utterly unreasonable to expect people to stop what they are doing every hour to let TM do its thing.

  • My iphone is froze during a reset at the itunes symbol and usb plug

my iphone froze during a reset at the itunes symbol and usb plug with the arrow pointing at symbol.  how do i get past this point as my itunes account is not even recognizing my phone now?

Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
    Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
    Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.
    Cheers

My computer froze during match initial formatting.  Now some songs are uploaded others are "greyed out."  If I go song by song, I can update match.  How can I do this all at once and also update album art?

    Hi gdogk,
If there was an interruption during the initial iTunes Match process and you are now having issues with playback and album art, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful. In particular, you may want to turning iTunes Match off, then back on again, as noted here:
If iTunes Match is already enabled on your computer or device, try turning iTunes Match off and then on again.
Mac: While holding down the option key, choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match.
Turn iTunes Match on by selecting Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Windows: While holding down the shift key, choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match.
Turn iTunes Match on by selecting Store > Turn On iTunes Match.

  • Disk errors during backup

    Hi, I'm baaaaaaack!
I have a new (replacement) Netware 6.5 SP8 server running Groupwise,
with 4 RAID'ed 450GB 10K SAS drives giving me about 1.2TB of space. In
keeping things arranged close to the way they were before I arrived, for
now at least, I have a "DATA_POOL" which holds "SYS2" volume. During
nightly backups, since the new server went in about 12 days ago, I'm
getting backups failing, and eventually the SYS2 volume dismounted last
    weekend during the full backup.
I tried doing a poolrebuild even though poolverify showed no errors, per
Symantec & Novell documentation, and that didn't suffice. Had to do the
"purge" rebuild, and then was able to re-mount the volume. I wasn't
sure if the error was somehow related to the server migration, so I
tried the same full backup again and got the same nasty results.
Rebuilt again, and made some changes to the OFMCDM.CFG file as
recommended in some Symantec documentation, and the backups have been
    succeeding.
However, the logs show lots of entries like the following, still, always
    during the backups:
    3-08-2011 9:43:15 pm: COMN-3.26-178
    Severity = 5 Locus = 3 Class = 0
NSS-2.70-5009: Pool AIRP_COMM/DATA_POOL_SP had an error
    (20012(beastTree.c[510])) at block 129200397(file block
    -129200397)(ZID 1).
    3-08-2011 9:43:15 pm: COMN-3.26-180
    Severity = 5 Locus = 3 Class = 0
NSS-2.70-5008: Volume AIRP_COMM/SYS2_SV had an error
    (20012(beastTree.c[510])) at block 129200397(file block
    -129200397)(ZID 1).
It's not clear to me if this means it *has* to be a disk drive error.
New disks would seem to increase the likelihood of physical disk
failure, but it only happens during the Backup Exec 9.2 backups of this
volume, and never on the SYS volume during those same backups.
The Groupwise total database is about 100GB, and the total volume space
is about 800GB, if that matters. (This server is built to GROW.)
Suggestions? Does this clearly point to a hardware (disk) error even
though it only happens during backups, and the symptoms changed when I
    made the OFM configuration changes?
The changes I made to OFMCDM.CFG were:
    InitialCacheSize = 0x0000000000400000 (was 200000)
    CacheSizeExpandThreshold = 0x30 (was 0x1e)
The old server didn't have any problems backing up, and everything was
brought over intact/identical in configuration, even though the above
changes did seem to help somewhat. I'm posting here because this seems
more of a "storage" (disk) issue than really a backup issue, despite the
    failures occurring during backups.
Any suggestions, or clarification about the above cause & possible fixes?
    Thanks.
    -- DE

Thanks, but I don't know of any way to back up Groupwise without using
OFM; you just can't get the data if you do that because so many
important files are open. And I do agree that it's OFM if it is not a
    hardware issue.
Your entries under "device" look like the defaults, which I started
with, and yet there are a bunch of references on the Symantec (Backup
Exec) site which suggest changing those. But I will want to compare
your entries with mine, higher in the file, to see if there is any
particular setting that is non-default and might address the issue.
I do have slots for a spare drive on this new server. Currently, the
cache is directed to the very same volume that is having issues,
although it worked fine that way in the past on the old server. But I
can easily get another drive if that will resolve this.
    Thanks.
