DM 5.0.1 IP Modem icon vanished

downloaded new 5.0.1 and the IP Modem icon appeared, but when I connected my BB to sync the icon vanished.
I very much want to tether my BB to my laptop...is the option still there?

Thank you, Pete.
I didn't mean the link itself didn't work, I meant the FIX detailed in the link didn't work for me. Still not sure why. I had edited the .xml file using MS Word, and it went from a file of something like under a 100 kb to a file of a couple thousand.... I think that may have added formatting or something that caused the file to not work when I'd load Desktop Manager. (excuse me, my last post I said "CM" but meant DM). I have not retried this fix since reinstalling DM.
BTW, my service is Verizon, and before this latest version of DM they were charging $30/mo to use their tethering program, which my husband did while traveling. As I'm not needing to do that right now I wouldn't want to pay that amount until I need the service. I did not know if this new DM feature circumvents phone service charges, and in fact, since I haven't got the icon, I can't explore it as a feature.

  • In MAIL modem icon not showing in tool bar

I'm currently overseas and connecting to the internet through my mobile. I've checked "show modem status in bar" but since updating to 10.4.4/5/6 (I updated simultaneously) the modem icon has disappeared when I'm in Mail although it still shows in Safari? Not a huge deal but annoying to have to go into Internet Connect each time to disconnect. Is there a shortcut to disconnect or a way to retain the modem icon regardless of which app I'm in?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The only way an application should be able to affect a menu on the right side of the menu bar is if the application's menus overrun it. I noticed that Mail's menus take up slightly more space than Safari's, so that very well may be the problem. What's the horizontal resolution of your monitor? Maybe the OS updates added some items that pushed the modem status to the left and "under" Mail's Help menu.
Are there any menus on the right side of the menu bar that you don't really need? If so, try removing them by holding down the command (Apple) key and dragging the menu off the menu bar.

  • Internal Modem icon in menubar carried over by migration, how to diable?!

Hi there! I've just upgraded from an iBook G4 12" (bought 3 weeks before the MacBook range was unveiled - typical!) to a MacBook Pro 15". As I was setting up the MBP, I used the firewire target disk mode and automatic migration to grab everything from my old machine to the new one. It worked wonderfully!
In fact, too wonderfully. haha. On my old iBook, I had the internal modem icon enabled in the menubar. Now on the MBP, it's still there - only there IS no internal modem, so I have no idea how to go about disabling it! When I click, the menu shows "Modem: Idle (dimmed) / Connect (dimmed) / Open Network Preferences". Any ideas? I'd really appreciate it!

Click on the icon with the Command key held down, and drag it out of the menu bar.

  • Getting rid of modem icon in MacBook toolbar

Just moved all my stuff from my old 15" PB G4 to my new MacBook 2.0GHz Core Duo.
When it transfered everything, it placed the PB G4 modem icon in my toolbar (I was using a Speedtouch modem for my new 16Mb connection at home). Now I can't get rid of it, as the MacBook has no internal modem in System Prefs where I can turn it off.
Any ideas? Yeah I know, it's not the most important thing. But it's just sitting there, bugging me.
    Cheers in advance.

Hold the command key down and you will be able to drag any item on the right side in the menu bar out or to another position.

  • Icons vanish when arranging on desktop. Why?

Some of the Ap icons vanish but the Ap is still there with the title underneath when I rearrange them on the desktop.
    Known bug?
    Fix?

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data doing a reset.

  • How to get rid of modem icon on the menu bar?

Migration Assistant was very helpful transfering all my relevant settings from PowerBook to a new PowerMac but it also placed a modem icon on the menu bar. Trouble is I do not have a dial-up modem and would like to remove the icon now. Does anyone now how to do it? Clicking and control-clicking the icon only brings out a short pull-down menu with no option to remove the icon. Nor could I find anything in Network Preferences.
    Thank you.

If it's like other menu bar icons, you can Command-drag it off of the menu bar (or to change its position).
The actual switch for modem icon display is in Network Preferences, Internal Modem network interface, Modem tab.

  • Unneeded modem icon--how to delete?

When I migrated everything from my iMac to my new (refurbished) MacBook, I ended up with a modem icon in the menu bar at the top. How can I delete that, as I don't use a modem. I've tried looking in System Preferences, but nothing comes up except my WiFi, bluetooth, and ethernet. Help anyone?
    Joanne

Thanks, it worked, but only if I pressed the command key first, then selected the icon. Otherwise, it wouldn't move. But it's gone now, so thanks a bunch. And Merry Christmas.

  • Modem Icon

Quick question, i have the dial up modem icon in my menu bar (for lack of knowing what it is actually called). Anyhow, i was testing dial up for someone, have removed the modem from Network prefs and now i can't remove the icon. Any ideas on how to remove it? I have restarted to see if that cleared it but to no avail. Only new to mac, but willing to try things, and learn more.
    Cheers.

    Glad to help.

  • Redundent modem icon

I still have a modem icon in the menu bar, presumably left over from an earlier setup. But the G5 has no modem, so I can't get rid of the icon by using show/hid in Network Prefs or Internet Connect.
How can I get rid of it?
    Thanks

Nigel... iirc, you CMD+drag it off the menu bar!

  • Removing Modem Icon

I just got my MacBook Pro, and imported the settings from my iBook. I had the Modem icon in the status bar on my iBook. I now have Modem icon on my MacBook status bar, but cannot remove it because there is no Modem.

Hold down the "command" key (the one with the apple logo on it) while clicking the menu bar modem icon, simply drag this icon onto the desktop and it will remove it.

  • Menu bar icons vanished and iPod not showing up in iTunes anymore

All menu bar icons on the right side (keyboard, clock, battery) vanished.
It's not possible to get them back by mark their visability in the system configuration. The system just ignores any attempt to do that (I can mark the check box, but nothing appears on the menu bar; after leaving and returning to the panel, the mark has gone).
Besides of that, my iPod doesn't show up in iTunes anymore (but does on the desktop).
My laptop may be physically damaged as it fell down to the floor a few days ago.
    Can anybody help?

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test and also Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger, on the Menubar at the top of the screen.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
8.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
9.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
10.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number.
Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.

  • Modem icon on top right next to time machine 10.5.8

I have an older G5 running 10.5.8 I bought a 3rd party usb bluetooth adapter and mistakenly changed the settings on the internal modem which I do not use. Now I see the icon on the desktop and need to disable it. How can I do this?

Go to the system preferences for "network" and select the modem tab on the left(or bluetooth modem) . Uncheck the "show modem status in menu bar box" and it should disappear.
Or it may be your bluetooth icon, which you will find under bluetooth in system preferences.

  • Home sharing icon vanishes

I have two pc computers, both running the most recent edition of itunes.  I have turned home sharing off and on several times on each, and closed then opened them as well.  When I go to the screen to initiate home sharing, when I put in the password I can see the house icon, but it vanishes.  Home sharing is still on according to the drop down.  Why can't I see it?

    Hi jkoerner,

  • Windows Vista network Icon, next to the little speaker Icon vanished on me.

No is hasn't been figured out by anyone yet. I've done everything that the experts had to offer. Nothing has worked yet. I've put the operating system in twice. It was there than vanished again. Not worth it a third time. I just can't figure this one out.
This last time it vanished when I rebuilt the index. I can't open the properties in the local area connection. Untill I discovered the hidden Adminitrator Account. I can open the properties with that account, Not with the other. But no network icon anywhere...!!!
That little icon has been driving me nuts. One of you out there will find it. It can't hide forever...!!!

It's not really a DW thing, just put your favicon in the root
directory of your website and insert a line like <link
    rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
in the <head> section of your webpage.
The pic itself is a 16x16 pixel image saved as favicon.ico. I
think it's only supposed to be 16 color too...
