Dm4 3050us

One day, the external speakers on my dm4 3050us simply stopped working.  The headphones still work.  I've replaced the mobo and the audio/usb board to no effect.  Replaced the chipset drivers and the audio drivers.  The problem persists.  Audio passes with flying colors running UEFI diagnostics on the speakers.  All I can conclude is there's a driver conflict somewhere.  Short of going back to a clean install, I'm stumped.  Any help MUCH appreciated.

Hi DCinDC,
Welcome to the HPCommunity, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I saw your post regarding the problems with the audio not working. Check to make sure that the speakers are set to the default audio device. I have included two links below on how to do that. Do you have a set of external speakers that you can try? If the external speakers work and the headphones work at that point we can determine the fault is with the actual speakers themselves.
What operating system do you have?

  • Can I put an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card into my Pavilion dm4-3050us laptop?

I have been having problems with the wireless connection on my dm4-3050us laptop for several months now and am hoping to replace the wireless card in order to solve these issues.
Will I be able to put an Intel Advanced-N 6230 adapter into my machine?
If so, is there anything special I will need to do in order to make it work as it normally would? (i.e. special adapters to make it fit into the machine, driver updates, etc.)

You can use one of these:
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 631956-001
    Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 WLAN module 572511-001
It HAS to be an HP branded card with the HP number. It is not good enough if it is another card with the same wifi chip. Only HP branded and numbered cards will allow the system to POST.
    Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
See page 41. You may find that you need 3 antenna leads and the laptop only has 2. It is very hard to string another antenna lead but it can be done.
Here is the Advanced-N card on eBay which appears to have only 2 leads:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-OEM-HP-Pavilion-DV6-6000-WIFI-Wireless-Board-631956-001-/36077457082...
You will need to load the correct Intel driver and I would just have it downloaded to the laptop before you do the swap:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-104707-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Link to the Windows 7 driver above. Good luck. This should be pretty much plug and play for you but post back if you need more help.

  • HP Pavilion dm4 3050us Entertainment Notebook Fingerprint scanner

Alright, so I just got my HP Pavilion dm4 3050us (Running Windows 7-Home Premium) a few days ago, and ever since I've been trying to figure out this fingerprint scanner. I just CANNOT figure out how to work it, or even open/start/launch it at all. It's like my notebook doesn't even know that it was freaking built into the dang thing. I've opened the biometric devices section of the Hadrware and Sound section of the control pannel, and it comes up saying "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers." I also tried opening the device manager and there wasn't even a section specified to biometric devices. I've updated the BIOS to the 2012-02-17, version F.08, 4.75M, and I installed the device driver for the fingerprint scanner that is compatible with my notebook (AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver, 2011-10-28, Version 3.2.1.10, 6.83M). I just don't get how my notebook can't detect something that is freaking BUILT INTO it . . . I have no clue what else to do.
    Please help!

  • Dm4-3050us - can the DVD burn DL discs?

I can't seem to verify if the DVD drive will burn DL discs, as there's no logo on the drive housing.  Can anyone verify this?
Or is "SuperMulti DVD burner" spec'd out somewhere?
    Thanks!

Hm, still not sure - the service manual from the dm4-3050us "manuals" webpage refers to a slot-load optical drive (PDF page 10/120).  This is clearly wrong as this laptop has the tray-eject-style drive.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=5218478&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r100...
So now I guess I'll just grab a DL disc and try to burn 5+GB of data onto it...

  • Dm4-3050us only plays sound sometimes...?

I've had the dm4-3050us for nearly 2 years now with virtually no problems, but lately it's been doing something annoying - whenever I tried to load some audio (nearly always using the headphones port on the right side), there was a chance that the audio wouldn't play. Usually reloading the page or program would do the trick, but in the past few days it's almost completely stopped working. I can't listen to any audio online and usually have to restart programs five or six times before the sound starts working.
I've troubleshooted the audio on my computer and found nothing technically wrong with it. Everything says my headphones are in, not on mute and at a decent volume (and I know that's true because there are some programs I can hear, at times), and fully functional, and even when I let the speakers run it's the same deal - by all accounts, my sound should be working fine.
Any help anyone can offer would be highly appreciated!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56172.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
    Chipset Driver - Windows 7.
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if this has helped the issue.

  • HP DM4-3050us backlit keyboard???

Anyone know if it's possible to install a backlit keyboard in the HP DM4-3050us.

Actually that statement is not true. I picked up the dm4-3050us from staples. It didn’t come with a backlit keyboard. I did my research and found on that works. I ordered it from hp. Installed it and it works GREAT with BACKLIT KEYS. The motherboard does support it … should do some research before posting.

  • Lenovo B560 touchpad scroll not working on Windows 7

As the title says, the vertical touch-scroll is not working in certain programs. It works in my browser, but not with OneNote or PDFs. It also works on Microsoft Word. The touch scroll actually did start working for a few days randomly, but then went back to not working. I didn't update anything during either of those times. When I do attempt to use the touch scroll, a cursor icon appears that looks like a little scroll bar.
I have tried updating the drivers, which did not work. I have made sure all setting are correct and that touch scrolling is enabled. This problem is really driving me nuts, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Kukari. If you are experiencing the same issue on the same computer in the same operating system, unfortunately there are no Windows 8.1 drivers available for the HP Pavilion dm4-3050us Entertainment Notebook on the HP driver download page.
HP offers version 16.2.10.12 which you can try to reinstall (if you have not).
    Synaptics TouchPad Driver (Windows 8.0)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-109924-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Synaptics offers version 17.0.19, although it may not be compatible with your TouchPad.
    Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19:
    http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers
If the loss of functionality occurred after the Windows 8.1 update, you can either wait to see if the appropriate drivers are released for your notebook, or revert back to Windows 8.0.

  • No microphone input at all on Pavilion

I own an HP DM4-3050US - it's a very nice laptop and I have very few complaints with it. Great job. There are a couple of problems I'm having, one much more troubling.
I installed a brand new hard drive with a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit and have 32 GB of RAM as well. Fantastic combination for performance. The problem is that I am unable to have any hardware microphone recognized. I'm not a novice. I build all types of computer systems.
Device manager shows everything installed. There should be two microphones - one built in to the HP TrueVision HD webcam and one which is a headphone / microphone jack on the right side of the unit. The system specs say it's there and I have used it before. Unfortunately when I go to the control panel for Sound > Recording I get a jack that is only L R called "InsideMobileLid Analog Jack" for the IDT High Definition Codec. I don't see the microphone listed and none works.
I installed the HP software - the Cyberlink YouCam software. The video works perfectly but no sound is recorded. I've tried to reinstall the driver software but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I wonder if it's a hardware failure but it's rare that both the built in microphone and the microphone for the sound card will both fail at the same time.
Personally I would rather not do a system restore which then installs all the other bloatware in the machine and may not work on the new SSD drive that I installed as well which is superior to the mechanical hard drive in the unit that I believe is a 5400RPM drive. It should work with drivers or it just may need service. Any insights?

I solved the problem. Oddly enough, when doing a clean install on this machine it may disable the microphone and line in. What is unfortunate about Windows 7 is that there is no easy way to see "disabled" devices.  If you open the Recording tab and then right click inside the window, you'll see a menu that says "see disabled devices." You can then right click and enable each of them. After enabling them my MD4-3050US works beautifully. This is a fantastic laptop with a good, decent battery, nice screen, good performance and perhaps one of the best I've ever had. Thanks for the support help and glad that we've got my favorite piece of equipment working again.

  • WIFI not showing up

    Hi
I was having an issue with my WIFI, so uninstalled some adapter from device manager under network adapters after which my WIFI didn't even show up.  I tried running all drivers for WIFI for DM4-3050us but WIFI didn't show up. Can you help me please?

    Hi @sundar_jp
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your wifi not showing up. Assuming that it was working previously, a good first step would be to try a system restore to a point from when the wireless was still working.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
Other than that you can try these:
Resolving Universal WLAN, Wireless, and Wi-Fi Errors
Assuming that resolves the driver issue in device manager you should be good to go. If it does not, then I would recommend that you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
If on the other hand you resolve the driver problem but you are still having trouble connecting, then work through these steps and see if it helps.
Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 7)
Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:
Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:
    1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
    2. Expand the Network adapters.
    3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.
    4. Click the Power Management tab.
    5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Test.
    Forget the network: (Windows 7)
    1. Press Start.
    2. Type Manage wireless networks and click the application at the top of the start menu.
    3. Right click on the network and click Remove network.
    4. Confirm the warning by click OK.
Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
    1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
    3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
    4. Restart your PC and test.
It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:
    1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
    3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
    4. Restart your PC and test.
    Reinstall the network adapter drivers:
    1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.
    2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.
    3. Expand Network adapters.
    4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.
    5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.
    6. Restart your PC and test.
    Test an ethernet connection:
Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.
    Test another connection:
Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.

  • HP Pavilion dm4-3055dx

Ok so yesterday i turned on my laptop, a HP Pavilion dm4-3055dx Entertainment Notebook PC, and I got a disturbing message that a hard drive failure was imminent. I tried to run a check on my hard drive by pressing F2 during start up but every time I've tried my computer freezes for a few seconds then tells me that the check failed. I've read a little about this issue and from what I've found it sounds like I'm going to have to completly replace my hard drive. I honestly don't understand what could have happened because the computer has been stationary for days and the message came out of nowhere.
I guess my main questions are: 1) Is it possible that some connection has simply come loose or is there anything I should try before resorting to replacing the hard drive? and 2) This is my only computer so I won't be able to refer to this board during and after the install. I know most of the software and drivers are available on the HP Support Website but what about my operating system? Is there any way i can download my version of windows (without having to purchase it considering I've already purchased it when I first bought my computer) and maybe transfer it to my smart phone and then back to my computer or put it on a disc or something? And i guess 3) What exactly should I expect after installing a new hard drive? I've done a complete (like to factory condition) reset recently so I'm not really concerned with any personal data but if I can reinstall windows will I be able to use my wifi and access the internet immediately after or will I have to put all my drivers and my browser on a disc to use afterwards? Like what all do I need to save and have available after replacing the hard drive?
I appologize for the length/number of questions I just asked but I'm really clueless about this entire thing and just want to make sure I'm prepared. Thanks for reading and I look foreward to any/all help.

Did you perhaps make the recovery disks the system prompts you to make when you first turn it on? Assuming not, in your situation it might be best to call HP to order a recovery disk set. Your laptop came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and we can link you to a place to download a disk image but you would need another computer (working) to burn a DVD or make a bootable thumb drive.
    http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/page-2#post-124821
These are .iso files which need to be burned to a disk using specific software or you can use this Microsoft USB/DVD tool:
    http://lifehacker.com/5423747/windows-7-usb-download-tool-lets-you-install-windows-from-a-thumb-driv...
You can also save off your drivers to install so you do have immediate internet access.
