  • File Error: The Specified file is open and in use by this or another app...

    I have imported a string of pictures and dragged them into the FCP timeline. I render them and it renders a certain percentage then it stops and says "File Error: The Specified file is open and in use by this or another application."
    After reading this, I quit out of FCP, restarted my computer, opened FCP, nothing other program, tried to render again and same thing happened. It renders part of it then the error message pops up, then I can render again and it will do another percent then it will pop again and so on.
    Suggestions, or does anyone know why this happened? Thank you very much for your time.

    okay - don't know where you've got your scratch disc set but hopefully it's to another drive other than your boot.
    The same drive where your render files should be located, ie some drive other than your boot drive.
    Can you copy the jpegs over to that drive into a folder.
    Delete them from your tl, delete them from your proj. Save your project. Close fcp.
    If they're on your boot drive - delete them.
    Reopen fcp and Reimport them from the new location.
    Sorry for all the steps - but we have no idea how you have configured fcp or your level of experience. Trying to cover all the bases ...

  • FILE ERROR: The Specified file is open and in use...

    FILE ERROR: The Specified file is open and in use by this or another application.
    I get this error when I import a .MOV created by Live Type. All applications, except FCP, are closed. I can reboot the computer and get the same thing. It happens when I try and "render all". Thanks.

    It's probably either spotlight looking at the files, or some anti-virus program thinking your render is a virus.

  • Cannot render files.  The following message appears: file error; the specified file is locked

    Suddenly I cannot render any project in Final Cut 6, because a message reads: file error: the specified file is locked.  Any clues on what to do?

    The reason we suggest searching is there are too many possible causes and unlikely answers and FCP6 was a long time ago.

  • File error: The specified file i locked. when i am trying to render a clip on the time lin e

    WHen i want to render a clip on the timeline it tells me this message"file error: The specified file i locked."drive and file and they are not locked.
    What setting do i check for this
    because up till now the program was rendering all clips on the time lne
    I have checked the the drives and files and they are unlocked.
    please advise
    i have to render the clip from the timeline as n export then bring it back in
    annoying !

    Before I ask you to check permissions on the drive you save your material and output files, try creating a new project, copy everything from the old one in it (highlight-copy-paste in new project) and save as with a new name. Does this work?

  • File error: The specified file is locked - HELP!

    hello,
    everytime i try and save my project i keep getting the error:
    File error: The specified file is locked
    i went to the project and "get info" and saw that the file is locked...i also noticed that every other file in my computer is locked as well.
    i just got my machine back from the repair shop...is there a setting i can use to turn off all locked files??
    thanks,
    steven

    Paste the text that Neil posted,
    *tell application "Finder"*
    *set locked of every item of entire contents of home to false*
    *end tell*
    into the white area under the Record and Run buttons. Then click Compile, then the Run button.

    file error - the specified file is locked, Final cut pro

    I usually get this when I try to save a project and it isn't stored on my HD(usually external HD or RAID). Sometimes I can do a save as and save it to the desktop.
    Sometimes everything is cleared up with a restart. It seems like it is a FCP7/OS developmental need which is mute because 7 is no longer supported by Apple.

  • 2343 Error: A specified path empty. on PSE 11

    Hello, everyone! I am having trouble with uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 on my computer. Everytime, I try to I get a pop-up: "2343 Error: A specified path empty." I tried running Microsoft Fix-It Tool but it's unavaliable for me to use. (I'm guessing Windows 8 is incompatible at the moment.) Any help on this would be greatly appreciated ! Thank you very much !
    (I hope this question is in the right forum, this is my first time using Adobe Community.)

    Didnt Control Panel Uninstallation work? Is there an entry of Photoshop Elements 11 in <Drive(C/D/:)> Program Files(x86) or Program Files > Adobe
    Did you try running Microsoft Fix it Tool from this location: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/error-2343-specified-path-empty.html

  • I'm editing in FCS 5.1, but when I try to save the project, it says "File error: file unknown."  Any advice?  Thanks!

    I'm editing in FCS 5.1, but when I try to save the project, it says "File error: file unknown."  Any advice?  Thanks!

    have you tried doing a save as to a different location?  If that doesn't work, do a search here.  I seem to remember people having the same problem.
    You could also try doing an xml export (I think 5.1 has that capability).

  • File error: File unknown (capturing)

    I just upgraded to FCP6 on my MacPro with 5G RAM, 250G HD. After "log and capture" 17 separate clips and saving intermittably, the computer gave me a "File error: File Unknown" warning window when I tried to save. "Quit" and "save" gave the same error as well as "Save as". I asked our IT dept about it and they didn't have any suggestions, besides trash the FCP pref file. While trying to recreate the error with IT, FCP6 worked fine and saved without error. Has anyone run into this problem with the new FCP6? Did it resolve itself? If not, what did you do?
    Thanks!

    I have had this problem, although I don't have FCP6. The only way I've been able to solve it is exporting as an XML, and then quit without saving. Reimport the XML when you bring it back up.

  • Load blob to file. error: file write error

    Hi,
    I used procedure witch load blob to file. It's working at Oracle 10g, but its does't work on oracle 11g. Why?
    create or replace PROCEDURE load_blob_to_bfile (p_file_id IN VARCHAR2, p_directory IN VARCHAR2, p_ident in varchar2 default NULL)
    IS
    v_blob BLOB;
    v_start NUMBER := 1;
    v_bytelen NUMBER := 2000;
    v_len NUMBER;
    v_raw RAW (2000);
    v_x NUMBER;
    v_output UTL_FILE.file_type;
    v_file_name VARCHAR2 (200);
    BEGIN
    -- get length of blob
    SELECT DBMS_LOB.getlength (blob_content), filename
    INTO v_len, v_file_name
    FROM wwv_flow_files
    WHERE filename = p_file_id;
    -- define output directory
    v_output := UTL_FILE.fopen (p_directory, p_ident||'_'||v_file_name, 'wb', 32760);
    -- save blob length
    v_x := v_len;
    -- select blob into variable
    SELECT blob_content
    INTO v_blob
    FROM wwv_flow_files
    WHERE filename = p_file_id;
    v_start := 1;
    WHILE v_start < v_len AND v_bytelen > 0
    LOOP
    DBMS_LOB.READ (v_blob, v_bytelen, v_start, v_raw);
    UTL_FILE.put_raw (v_output, v_raw);
    UTL_FILE.fflush (v_output);
    /* Text only could be: UTL_RAW.cast_to_varchar2 (v_raw);*/
    -- set the start position for the next cut
    v_start := v_start + v_bytelen;
    -- set the end position if less than 32000 bytes
    v_x := v_x - v_bytelen;
    IF v_x < 2000
    THEN
    v_bytelen := v_x;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    UTL_FILE.fclose (v_output);
    END;
    directories is creaited and granted for read and write. It looks like file is created, but application rise the write file error, and files in directory is emty.

    So, I'm copying the file in a temp. BLOB with this function:
    FUNCTION get_remote_binary_data (p_conn IN OUT NOCOPY UTL_TCP.connection,
    p_file IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN BLOB IS
    l_conn UTL_TCP.connection;
    l_amount PLS_INTEGER;
    l_buffer RAW(32767);
    l_data BLOB;
    BEGIN
    DBMS_LOB.createtemporary (lob_loc => l_data,
    CACHE => TRUE,
    dur => DBMS_LOB.CALL);
    l_conn := get_passive(p_conn); //get a passive connection
    send_command(p_conn, 'RETR ' || p_file, TRUE); //send Retrieve command to server
    BEGIN
    LOOP
    l_amount := UTL_TCP.read_raw (l_conn, l_buffer, 32767);
    DBMS_LOB.writeappend(l_data, l_amount, l_buffer);
    END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN UTL_TCP.END_OF_INPUT THEN
    NULL;
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    NULL;
    END;
    UTL_TCP.close_connection(l_conn);
    get_reply(p_conn);
    RETURN l_data;
    END;
    Then I'm writing it into a local file:
    PROCEDURE put_local_binary_data (p_data IN BLOB,
    p_dir IN VARCHAR2,
    p_file IN VARCHAR2) IS
    l_out_file UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    l_buffer RAW(32767);
    l_amount BINARY_INTEGER;
    l_pos INTEGER := 1;
    l_blob_len INTEGER;
    BEGIN
    l_blob_len := DBMS_LOB.getlength(p_data);
    l_amount := DBMS_LOB.GETCHUNKSIZE(p_data);
    IF (l_amount >= 32767) THEN
    l_amount := 32767;
    END IF;
    l_out_file := UTL_FILE.FOPEN(p_dir, p_file, 'w', 32767);
    WHILE l_pos < l_blob_len LOOP
    DBMS_LOB.READ (p_data, l_amount, l_pos, l_buffer);
    UTL_FILE.put_raw(l_out_file, l_buffer, FALSE);
    l_pos := l_pos + l_amount;
    END LOOP;
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(l_out_file);
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    IF UTL_FILE.IS_OPEN(l_out_file) THEN
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(l_out_file);
    END IF;
    RAISE;
    END;
    I've checked the blob before I'we wrote it ito the file (UTL_FILE.put_raw(l_out_file, l_buffer, FALSE)), and it contains no carriage-return.

  • File Error: The specified file is locked

    Anyone ever seen this error message when trying to save a project?
    I'm working in FCP 6.0.2, on a MacPro running OS 10.5.1, and I cannot save any projects. Not old ones, not Saved-as, not even new, blank, untitled ones.
    I repaired permissions, trashed preferences, checked the designated folders for locked status... I can't figure it out. And, needless to say, I can't work if I can't save... help!

    Well, this isn't going to help anyone with the same problem, but it seemed to fix itself. I was on the phone with Apple Pro Video support, and I went to do a save in order to retrieve the exact terminology that I was getting on the error, and the dang thing went ahead and saved with no problems.
    Oy.

  • Merging PDF's into one file Error: "File Skipped"

    I'm trying to merge multiple files into one. However, on some of the pages I get an error code "File skipped". How do I correct this issue so that I can merge all the files successfully?

    This usually means the file has encryption applied (preventing changes), it's been Reader-extended (also preventing changes) or it's an XFA file from LiveCycle Designer. Open the file in question and check the properties.

  • File Error Problem?

    I keep getting the File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application. When I try to render. No matter what drive I am using I keep getting the same message.
    I did some research and put my render files folder in the spotlight privacy tab. Still keep getting the same message. Reset my render file location. Still no luck.
    The strange thing is if I close FCP it will let me render one time then stop and give me the message.
    Thanks

    All users have their own settings for applications.
    If something is not working in one user account but is fine in another, this would indicate that something is wrong with the former account. Creating a new user account will use the default settings and is a non-destructive way of troubleshooting.
    The other way to troubleshoot on a Mac is to delete the application's *Preference Files*. Restarting the application causes a fresh set of Preferences to be generated, using default values. Because FCP is somewhat more complex when compared to other applications there may be several settings to adjust before it functions to your taste.
    So without further ado...
    Deleting FCP Preferences:
    Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
    Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
    Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
    Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
    Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
    Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
    When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. If you have further problems, the backup can be recalled and you can continue working.

  • "File Error" and "Out of Memory" when rendering FCE

    Dear all,
    I imported a 2 hour holiday video into FCE.
    When rendering the video, a message appears that the rendering process will last about 15 minutes to complete.
    However, frequently I am warned by the following message:
    "File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application"
    When activating Rendering again, the render time is now increased to about 45 minutes.
    I now either receive a couple of times the message: "File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application" >>or even worse: "Out of memory"<<.
    Today I purchased an addition 2GB of memory to increase my memory form 750 MB to 2.5GB !!!
    Can anyone please tell me what could be the cause of these messages and how to solve them?
    BTW, no other programs are running while I use FCE.
    Thanks in advance,
    Hans E.<br>

    Is it happening when you're rendering, or exporting?
    The error message means FCE is trying to rewrite a file that it is currently using. It could be mistakenly trying to save a render file, if you're only rendering, or if you're trying to re-export a file, you'll get that message.
    Try dumping all your render files, restarting FCE and trying again.
    The Out of Memory error almost always points toward a corrupt file. Could be a source file, could be a render file. Again, dump your render files and try again.
    If these don't work, you need to close FCE, take all your source media offline, then open FCE. Now, reconnect each clip one by one until you find the corrupt clip. Keep going, there may be more than one. Re-capture the corrupt clips and you should be good to go.
