DMG Backup file is corrupt - Urgent help!

Hi all!
I have a major problem.
My Macbook Pro's HD crashed few weeks ago.
Brought i to a repair centre. But before i did that i was able to create a dmg backup file.
Now i got my Macbook back and tried to open the DMG file.
The problem is that i get the message that it ain't possible to activate it.
I guess my DMG backup is corrupt but i don't believe that everything in it is corrupt.
It is a huge backup of 350 GB's.
I now have external drives for extra space to put it on.
Does anyone know how to open it, mount it, extract it, or another solution so i can get important files back?
Maybe bypass the scan or something?
I'm not so into terminal but if you guys know any command line's i can put into than i'll sure try!
I hope you guys can help me. I searched all kind of forums before i would post a request and i really need my data.
Kind regards.
Ruud

The command line program is hdiutil (see: man hdiutil)
You can try:
     hdiutil mount -noverify -ignorebadchecksums [file.dmg]

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  If this does not work, zap the pram.  You should now see your external hard drive.

  • What to do If a backup file is corrupt

    Hi!
Recently I restored my iPad 2 to factory settings. Before I did that I updated it to iCloud. I went through the standared set-up process. But when restoring from an iCloud back up a message poped up saying that there's a problem with my data and that I should choose another backup. So I tried with all three backups but the message was still present. What can I do if a backup file is corrupt?

    Please help!

  • Accidental delete backup file of my iPhone. It includes very important info. Please help me to recover deleted backup file. Very urgent.

I accidently delete my backup file of my iphone in my mac with Lion OS. It includes very important contact info. Please kindly provide me the solution to recover my backup. Very very appreciate.

Well if you manually deleted it from the file system, it might be in the trash? Otherwise, I don't know if there is a way to recover one.

  • .dmg backup file will not mount.  Failure not an option.

Let me begin by saying that my lovely wife is, for good reason, currently not very happy with me. Allow me to explain...
I recently decided that it was time to upgrade her iBook G4 from Tiger (10.4.xx, not sure what it was exactly) to Leopard. Her system easily meets the requirements and she would benefit greatly from being able to use Time Machine as a backup solution.
I figured that the first step should be making sure that her existing data was properly backed up and could be selectively restored after the installation of Leopard was complete. I could have performed an Archive Installation of Leopard, but she had data files and folders all over the drive and I felt that a clean installation would be best. So anyway, I booted the system with the Leopard install disc and used Disk Utility to create a .dmg backup of the one and only partition on her hard drive. I used all of the default settings for the creation of this .dmg and saved it to my external USB hard drive which is formatted as a Mac OS Extended volume. Disk Utility gave me no errors at all and the image creation seemed to complete successfully.
With that first step complete, I shut the system down and disconnected the external drive (just to be safe ya know). I, once again, booted the system with the Leopard install disc and "Erase"d the hard drive, created a new Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition and proceeded with the Leopard installation. Once the installation completed, I ran Software Updates until no more updates were available and I was all the way up to 10.5.5. So far, so good.
With Leopard now installed and fully updated, I connected my external hard drive to the system, transferred my .dmg file to the desktop and attempted to mount the volume so that I could begin copying my wife's data to her Home folder. However, when I double-clicked the .dmg I received an error stating that the image failed to mount and gave a reason of "no mountable file systems".
Now before I go any further, I want to stress that my wife's entire digital life is contained in this disk image. She owns her own business and all of the critical data associated with her business is in there. Financial data, several years of tax information, business contacts, many months worth of email... everything. So needless to say, when I saw that error from DiskImageMounter pop up, I immediately felt a little sick to my stomach. Before anybody asks, I have no idea why I didn't test the image file before erasing the hard drive. I should've, I know that, I don't want to talk about it.
I spent the next 4 - 5 hours desperately trying anything I could think of to get access to the data within this .dmg file. I made a copy of it right away so that I wouldn't inadvertently make the situation even worse. I then tried to use Disk Utility to Restore the image, but received an error stating that the image contained an "Unrecognized Filesystem". I get the same error when I try to either verify or repair the volume with Disk Utility. I tried to attach the image using hdiutil in Terminal but got the same "no mountable file systems" error that I got from DiskImageMounter. I have tried to mount the image with Toast and Mount Me! as well with the same results.
Here's the hdiutil imageinfo that I get from the dmg:

I'd be happy to provide any other information that anyone thinks might be useful. I'd also be willing to bring the image file to a professional data recovery center and would welcome any recommendations that you might have. As I state in the subject of this post, failure is not really an option and I owe it to my wife to do everything humanly possible to try and arrive at a favorable resolution to this situation.
The thing that's really prevented me from getting a proper nights sleep for the last two nights is the irony in blowing up her data while trying to get her set up with a decent data backup solution.
Thank you to anyone who is able to help.

Whatever you do do not throw out the disk image. Most likely this is a permissions/user account error involving how the disk image was made.
Try mounting it manually using the Terminal by typing the following into the application:
              hdiutil attach
Ensure there's a space after "attach" and then drag the disk image to the terminal window, which should complete the full path to the disk image. Then ensure there's a space after the disk image path and type "-mount" so the whole command looks something like this:
              hdiutil attach /path/to/file.dmg -mount
Then press enter and hope it attaches. If an error occurs, try the command again with "sudo" in front of it as such:
              sudo hdiutil attach /path/to/file.dmg -mount
Enter your password when prompted and hope that works.

  • Excel File is corrupt, Please help

I have an excel file that has recently become corrupt. I was working on this file from last 3 years without any problem. It is helpful if someone know easy and quick method to recover data from it.
All other files are working fine.

    Hi Peter,
It looks your file is corrupt, try to repair the corrupted file manually:
On the File tab, click Open.
In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook that you want to open.
Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
To recover as much of the workbook data as possible, click Repair.
P.S: It might possible that you have mailed this workbook to someone previously. If file is there then download it.
    Good Luck!!!

  • I did a backup on my iphone 5s yesterday, now im trying to restore it and it says "backup file is corrupt or it is not compatible" Please HELP

i am using the latest version of itunes. and running ios7 on my iphone 5s.
    Thank you for the help

If iTunes is reporting the backup is corrupt, there isn't anything you can do about that, except to delete that backup and try to create a new one before you attempt your restore. If that is not possible, then you will have to set the phone up as new and re-sync your data.

  • My Multiple Saves On A Flash File Gone? [URGENT HELP NEEDED]

    Hey guys,
I am very disappointed with the fact that I've been working on a school project on a Flash file for numerous days, and yesterday, I was close to completetion when I found out that none my saves were updated. Basically, I spent hours working on the project and I saved my Flash file multiple times; however, I just opened my Flash file today and found out that all of the updates that I had made on the file were gone. Is there any way I can still recover the file/updates through cache possible, and what may have gone wrong?
What I have Tried To Solve The Issue:
    - I have done a full scan of the computer but only found the non-updated file.
    - I had dragged the saved file onto my USB the previous day before I turned off the computer, but the Flash file on the USB is the non-updated file as well.
    - Try to find a cache, unsuccessfully.
    - Browsed this forum but found nothing.
    - I even checked my Recycling Bin.
    Other Info:
    - I am using Flash CS3.
    - The folder which contained my Flash file has all of the images that I had edited with PhotoShop CS3, as well as the images that I had downloaded online. It's only the Flash file that is old.
Please help me out on this as soon as possible as it's a school project. My hours worth of time is gone and I really don't want to have to start again while there may be a solution to this out there. Thank you very much.

You best bet is to get your san folks to give you some disk space for a mount point on the last node in the cluster. Once they assign the lun (not raw) have your SAs make it a mounted file system such as /dbbackup.
Run all of your rman backups on your last node on the cluster. The only draw back is, if that node dies, then you will not be able to run backups. but your backups would be safe as they are on the san.
Only way to have a mounted file system on all nodes in your cluser is to have some sort of third party file system cluster ware .. such as veritas or OCFS2 - then all nodes could see it.
I feel the first node in the cluster (the primary node) is the most busy out of the rest .. so thats why the suggestion of running rman on the last node in the cluster.

After some googling I came to the conclusion that pacman was corrupt.
I have NO idea how this happened.
Is there a way to fix this without a re-install?
    Help is very much appreciated.

I have read the thread here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=95007 but I'm not sure if that would apply in this situation.

loafer wrote:It's the sync DB which has the problem.  Rename the dirs to core-old etc. and then "pacman -Syy" to force a download.  If that fixes it you can just delete the old ones.
    Thanks,
Ill try that in a minute.
I guessed that Input/output error meant filesystem corruption so I rebooted using :
    sudo shutdown -rF now
and the resulting fsck on bootup had a few errors.
Manually fixed them and now waiting for fsck to finish.
    Could take a while.
    I'll update when it boots.
    update:
    Booted,
    sudo pacman -Syy
    *no errors*
    sudo pacman -Syu
    *no errors*
    Guess its fixed then.
I see how your fix would work, but I'm not sure I would have been able to rename the folders if they contain corrupted files.
    Thanks anyway,
    Matt

  • I can't rename CR2 raw files in LR3- urgent help

    Hi Guys,
First time, Ive turned to a forum, so hope this the kind of trivia you love!
I've happily been renaming the final images prior ro export from the original CR2 camera file name to a new name.
However after migrating all 2011's images to a new hard drive, I have one job that i cannot rename. Lr says "Some photos will not be renamed because that are either unwritable or missing"
The files are renamed if you attach the name whilst exporting to jpg, but not to orgianl files.
There is no little ? to indicate they are missing, so it can't be that.
I start a new catalogue for each new job, and haven't had this happen to any subsequent catalogues.
The files it seems to affect, where all shot my assistant in canon small raw- rather than the full raw?
I've checked the disk and don't seem to be able to repair permission, but as this is an external drive with out the OS, I guess you can't
    Tech details:
Mac pro Quad 2.8, OS 10.6.8, LR3.3.4.1, camera RAW 6.4.1
This is driving me nuts as it means I will have to reorder them by hand and rename them one by one. ( assist forgot to sync times on cameras!)
    Please help, with any suggestions.

    Hmmm...two things you might try:
--Export that entire catalogue as a catalogue. (Via the File menu) See if the new catalogue has the same problem.
--Create a new empty catalogue and import the entire catalogue to it (again, as a catalogue).
Perhaps one of those things will work.Sometimes the weirdnesses get left behind.

  • Closing stacked files in Bridge - Urgent help please.

I have sorted loads of photos into different stacks in bridge in one folder. If I close this folder and reopen will they be stacked correctly? If I save this folder to an external drive and reopen it, will it be stacked correctly? Mac user.

In all the time you have wasted here, you could have already made two or three tests to satisfy your curiosity.

someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Files already rendered URGENT HELP!

hey, i finished a project on Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and i am exporting the file into a .m2v under File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversions...
after i put the setting the way i want it i click Save
After this an error pops up saying "Not Rendered: The movie must be rendered before it can be encoded."
the problem is that i already have the entire movie rendered...both video and audio. i try quiting and restarting my computer and 'rerendering' again but it wont work. i need help FAST i have to send in the project by friday! thanks!

    > Because if you export using Export>QuicktimeMovie it is done VERY quickly, this then allows you to bring this file into DVDsp as an asset and start contructing your DVD, buttons, tracks etc whilst DVDsp compresses the QTfile in the background
Well, I've never actually got DVDSP to do the encoding in the background - but if I try to encode my current (80 min) project in DVDSP, (Fastest Encode 120 mins - 5.0-7.5 Mbps) it returns a failure with the 'Bit Rate Too High' message.
    However!
If I first encode my QT movie file in Compressor (Best Quality 90 mins - 6.2-7.7 Mbps) DVDSP burns my DVD without a murmur.
I know - I know! They both use Compressor, so how can this be?
    I'd love to know!

  • Java and Batch File Issue - need urgent help

I have a java program which calls a batch file. This batch file calls another java program. I want an option so that I can close this java program from main program.
If i try process.destroy then it will call batch file and not java program.
I can't go away with batch file.
I will appreciate if someone can help me.

Hi, Thanks for the help but this doesn't seem solving my problem completely. I will appreciate if you can help more.
I will explain you the scenario -
    1. There is java program provided as an external program to me.Only changes things slightly.
    2. This java program is called using batch file. When batch file is started this java program starts and listens on a socket for incoming data.I would want to wrap the launch of this java program in another JVM so we can use process.destroy().
    3. I am writing a program to check performance of the above java program. I want to call this java program from my program in a loop having some varying config data. When I run the loop first time I create a batch file at run time which executes the batch file provided by vendor. This batch file starts the socket. Once my message list is over then my loop goes to executing the batch file again with different config parameters. But this time I run into issue because my previous java program is not killed after message sending was over.Would it be acceptable to mung the 3rd party batch file to insert a wrapper JVM?
Even if i use threads I don't think I can get rid of batch file.I did not suggest getting rid of batch files.
So, I need to find a way so that when any iteration of loop is over then this socket program is killed. These 3rd party java programs - do they not have a "terminate" command you can put at the end of your message list?
Even if i closed the socket from my client program that doesn't help because server is still listening and waiting for new client.
I need to kill server which was started by batch file.On Linux it would be fairly simple to modify your batch file to determine what the process id is and send the process a signal to terminate it.
Not sure what you can do on Windows.
