DMG file from app store
I have a MacBook and an iMac. I live in a rural area and my Internet connection is a mobile hotspot with limited monthly bandwidth. I want to buy apps from the App Store while at work (and download them) and then use the downloaded files on the MacBook to install on my iMac when I get back home. This will save me a lot of data on my monthy allotment. Is this possible? If so, where can I find the downloaded install files on my MacBook?
That's what I thought might be the problem. The AppStore assumes everyone has a high-speed unlimited connection and downloads and installs apps in one step. If there's a restart involved you might be able to choose "not now" and copy the installer from your Applications folder or download folder,if it's in Downloads.

I just got a new mac mini with OS X Server 10.8.2. I want to replace the original hard drive with an SSD, but I have problems downloading installation files from app store to make a bootable USB stick.
When i click the Purchases button it tells me that OS X Server is already installed, and I'm not able to download the files.
I have tried all the diffrent forms of Option key clicks but nothing works.
Anyone out there who have a solution?
Is it possible to get the installation media in some other way?
By the way. Is it possible to install the non server version on a computer thats bought with the server version pre installed.

DanielYou cannot download Mountain Lion or Mountain Lion Server from the App Store if it was pre-installed on the computer.
You can call Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. They may be willing to arrange a download for you. Or you can reinstall via Internet Recovery: OS X (Lion/Mountain Lion)- About OS X Recovery.
No, you can purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store on the computer you want to install it if it now has Snow Leopard or Lion running. -

AndyWhen we save a document, Pages save infos about the printer used to print it but for an unknown reason, it doesn't select it as the printer to use when we re-open it.
Pages '08 already behaved this way. This was reported to Apple but they don't correct it.

How to use File Splitter ($1.99) from App. store --By Tong Zhou
I purchased File splitter from app. store ($1.99) by Tong Zhou. I cannot find instructions in English on how to use it! I also tried to contact Tong by e-mail, but e-mail address didn't work etc. His support page is in Chinese language I haven't removed it from my Mac yet and hope to use it sometime. ---have tried different drag and drop tactics, but no luck. The lady at the app. store offered me a refund, but still hoping for instructions.

Unable to install "InstallESD.dmg" file from OS X Mounstain Lion?

Unable to install "InstallESD.dmg" file from OS X Mounstain Lion, i've downloaded OS X Mavericks and installed on other machine. However, i took backup of "Show Package Contents" before installing.When i try to install ""InstallESD.dmg" file some other Mac machine. When i double click on it its open Packages folder instead of installer.
Please suggest me, how can i install OS X Mavericks for My Mac machines.

Suresh Balakrishnan.Unfortunately with OS X Mavericks you can't use the InstallESD.dmg file as an installer. You have to use either DiskMaker X 3.0.4 or Mavericks Bootable Disk Creation Tool or do an Internet search for the Terminal command that can be used to create a bootable Mavericks installer on an external drive (e,g, USB thumb drive).
You will need the Install OS X Mavericks.app from the Mac App Store to use with all of the above solutions. -

Yes. Each one needs to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in order to re-download from the App Store unless you make your own USB flash drive installer:
Make Your Own Lion Installer
1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that you can use without having to re-download Lion. -

1 to create a big camera for i pads and ipods and iphones so we can put it in another ipad or ipod or iphone and it has a zoom lens

H.MThe iPad 1 can't run the newer operating systems. It'd be like trying to play a bluray disc in your 6 year old dvd player....it simply lacks the hardware to make the software run.
No suggestion about the camera, but given that Apple's attitude seems to be to focus more on the more mobile devices for photography (the iPhone and Touch cameras got features, the iPad and mini didn't), that is highly unlikely. You can tell Apple what you want, but you'd probably be money ahead to get a digital camera.
as to the photos, anything put on via iTunes has to come off via iTunes.Your main alternative would be to look for photo apps that offer file exchange that may give you more functionality. -
I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was. I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

“iBoostUp.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “iBoostUp.app” and download it again from the App Store.
Because of the above error, i am not able to use iboostup application. I have even tried to reinstall from app store, but the issue still continues.
Need help.Perhaps the damaged file is an auxiliary file outside the app bundle and stored elsewhere on your Mac. Try deleting the app and all it files with an app for that purpose. Afree one is AppCleaner;

When i try to reload The Sims FreePlay (sister accidentally deleted) from App Store I keep getting error message. There is not enough available storage on my device but there actually is enought storage. Not sure why I cannot get App to reload. I have synced to my computer. Help!
To download/install an app directly to the iPod you need available storage equal to about three times the file download size. Syncing the app to the iPod requires a lot less. Thus you either have to free up more storage or sync the app from your computer.

My iPhone 4s cannot download from app store
For a couple days now my iPhone 4s cannot download anything from the app store. I cannot download new apps or updates. It does not give me an error message or anything. It just shows the icon on my iPhone screen and it says waiting right underneath it; I've let it go on for a day and it never resolved anything. It was working fine before and now it doesn't. I have not changed any settings and I know my account is fine because my wife's iPhone is also setup to use my iCloud account and it works without problems. I donnot want to reset my iPhone as it is currently set up just the way I need it; both peronal and work stuff. It would be a pain in the rear if I had to reset everything. Any ideas?

I called customer Apple support and now my phone works without a problem.
Here's what I had to do:
Try resetting network connections. If that does not work go to next step below.
Connect your iPhone to your computer
Open iTunes (probably opens automatically)Back up your iPhone to your computer
Restore iPhone to factory settings (this is what I did. you can skip this step if you're feeling lucky and go straight to the next step). Try to download from app store, if it works, your set; go to next step.Try right clicking on your iPhone an the left menu (iTunes) if you don't see the right options on your screen
Restore iPhone from previous file (iTunes)
My iPhone did not restore my downloaded apps, no worries, just go to bought apps on the app store/iTunes and download apps into iTunes. After that, just sync your iPhone to iTunes and your apps should be there.
I hope that helps, that's what I had to do. I was able to reset my iPhone and all my settings to the way it was before restoring. I did not loose anything but it took about 2 hours. -
