DMG file to MP4 for powerpoint

I have a DVD with clips for a seminar and need to burn it to my macbook air so I can embed them in a powerpoint. They get "hung up" when I use the SuperDrive. I have the entire DVD on the desktop in a dmg file that has both audio and video TS, but now what? The DVD had about 2 hrs of clips.

I attached 2 files together with Quickyime Pro and it has made a .mov file that I can't seem to convert to put on my ipod.What codecs were used in the source files? Can you convert the source files to iPod compatible formats individually and then splice them together?

I'm trying to find a quick, easy, hassle free way of converting video files such as mpg and avi to mp4 so that i can watch them on my new ipod nano.
Anyone got any suggestions and ideas?

Thanks for all the advice! I do have MPEG Streamclip and I'd thought about it, but have not really used it all that much. I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at it but just did now and see that you convert to Quicktime and in there, you select Apple MPEG-4 and do all your adjustments. Now my version says that it will convert to H264. Does that function not work right?
The bottom line though is I ended up returning the Video iPod. The biggest drawback is the fact that it does not have Firewire as all I have are Macs with USB 1.1. I could upgrade my Blue & White G3 and put a USB 2.0 card in it but that machine would be REAL slow to convert video. And my iMac of course, can't be upgraded. If I had USB 2.0 or the iPod had Firewire, I would have kept it....
Still, I'll mess with the conversion programs and see what works best. I'll figure out how to do everything and then once I'm up to speed, maybe consider getting one.

Premier 12 exporting file as mp4 for hd tv

I want to export my video as an mp4 file in order to play it on a 32"hd tv. so I need the best quality I can get. Any suggestions?

The Adobe party line is that you cannot change the project preset once it has been established. You start a new project.
More on that another time. There are less significant settings you can adjust in Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.
As for setting the project preset manually
File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings
In the Change Settings, set the project preset to match the properties of your source media.
Before you exit that area, in the new project dialog which shows the newly set project preset make sure
that there is a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
When you get back to the Premiere Elements Editor workspace, import your source video.
Make sure that you have QuickTime installed on the same computer as Premiere Elements.
What are the specifications of your TV player.. supported video format and supported media (disc, USB Flash Drive, memory card or stick)
as well as the format supported on a particular type of medium?
If you think that a H.264.mov file might be supported by your TV player, I will post detailed export settings for that. Just confirm what you have
Frame Width
Frame Height
Frame Rate
Also, if you need a MPEG2.mpg, we might try for different export settings, with a higher bitrate.
Also, the 12 to 12.2 Update should get rid of an Expert workspace text style issue as well as some undefined issues in 12.

Time Machine backup to DMG file

Is it possible to configure Time Machine to backup to a DMG file?
From my searching it doesn't seem possible. But why not??
Before you ask what the heck for, there are some perfectly legitimate use cases for this, for example, when the DMG file represents a network-backed resource. In my particular case I'd like to use s3backer ( http://code.google.com/p/s3backer/ ) to create a DMG file backed by Amazon S3 so I can do time machine backups to the "cloud". Voila, secure, encrypted & compressed backup over the network accessible from anywhere using free software.
If it's not currently possible, what can we do to get this fixed? Even if it were an "advanced" option that would be fine of course.

Upgrade Macbook from 10.4 to Lion with .dmg files

I have an old Macbook running OSX 10.4.11 that I would like to upgrade to OSX 10.7 (Lion).
Can I do this whole process (upgrade to 10.5, then 10.6, then 10.7) using .dmg files created from install CDs? I don't have a working CD drive, but I have a friend with .dmg files of all the retail install CDs.
Can I skip 10.5? I know I need 10.6 before I can go to 10.7.

well if your Mac meets the requirements, it's also possible, to install it from a USB stick directly wihtout the previous OS X versions...
I had Snow Leopard on my MBP and I deinstalled it completly and just installed Lion without installing Snow Leopard before and it works...
If you have the Lion installation app, you have to look for the InstallESD.dmg (folder SharedSupport)..
This dmg file you need for the USB stick or for a DVD...

Converting .fla to .mov to .mp4 for imbedding in Powerpoint

Hello,
I've been running into issues with the compression of my flash animations when imbedding them into powerpoint. The .mov files provide sharp playback, but after they are converted to mp4, the resolution drops. I need mp4 files so that the movies are compatible with both Mac and PC versions of powerpoint. I have changed the settings to increase the frames per second, and have the highest qualities selected when converting from .mov to .mp4 without luck.
Does anyone have any advice for this issue? Is there a better way to convert .fla to .mp4 for PC Powerpoint compatibility?

I suspect if you're trying to open a file in 08 that's been opened in 09 the file has been updated to 09 and will not open in 08.

When i try to open dmg file for newest version of itunes, my mac pro does not open to install and freezes my main desktop toolbar so i can't select the apple to shut down, it also enables me to open any other programs?HELP PLEASE

Where did you get this "dmg file"? To install the newest version of any Apple software, including iTunes, all you have to do is use Software Update from the Apple menu. This doesn't download any dmg, it automatically installs the software for you.
Maybe try repairing your permissions from Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder).
Also - What version of OS X do you have? Please update your forum profile so we can help you better.

Insert the disc you want to create the .dmg from, then choose the disc in the left hand pane of Disk Utility. From the File menu, choose New > Disk Image from (name of disc).
EDIT: This is basically how it's done; however, there may be other steps involved, depending on the type of disc you're trying to copy and what your goals are with the .dmg. If you provide more details about what you're trying to achieve, maybe we can help you further.

Missing DMG file for MAC download of Elements11

Purchased and downloaded Photoshop Elements11...file for download said it was for Mac/Windows. I am running Mac OS (10.7.5). Downloaded two files (one is a .exe file the other a .7z file). No DMG file (typical max install file name is present) to complete the install. Attempting to click either of the 2 files does not work (get an error message on the .exe and asks for an application to open the .7z file.....assume that is because those are Windows file formats).
Need some assistance on where to go now.

Two clarifications:
1.) I purchased the software, it is not a trial version.
2.) The software in question is Photoshop Elements 11, not Premier Elements 11 (the latter I think is video editing software, which is not what I have).
Again, my issue is that from the software download - regardless of whether I use the Akami Download manager or the alternate download method, it is not downloading the dmg version of the software which is necessary for Mac, which I am on.
Please advide correct next steps to allow me to successfully download this purchase.

Installing xcode 4.3.1 for lion is not working , it's opening the Xcode from the dmg file

After installing the Xcode from the developer site for the lion and run it , the installation started perfect with out any problems , at the end a message pop to remove the old version of Xcode to trash , i have clicked OK , then clicked finish and tried to search for the xcode in the Hard desk using Finder , but it i did not find it !!!
so i run the installation again but this time it's ruining the Xcode from the dmg file direct with out runing the installation , if i try to eject it will show a pop message that the xcode is begging used by another application
any help please ...

It's not there or in any were in the hard desk , it's running only from the dmg file , I'm downloading the Xcode now from the app store but it will take a long time , so I will have to wait

Could depend on where you got your .swf, too. The easiest way to obtain a useful copy of the video portion of a SWF file is to ask the creator to export it for you as a movie instead of native .swf which can contain tons of information that isn't really a movie.
