.dmg files no longer open in the finder
I just did an archive and reinstall (to solve some unrelated problems). Most things seem fine, but now .dmg files show up on the desktop without any icon, and when I double click them they open Disk Utility instead of mounting in the finder.
It's possible to mount them from within disk utility by selecting the .dmg file and clicking on "open" ... but this is an odd bunch of extra steps, and it seems like something's wrong.
in get info I tried to change the default app to the Finder, but it wouldn't let me.
I've repaired permissions, rebuilt the directory with disk warrior, restarted, etc. .. no luck.
any thoughts?
The application to choose in "get info" >>"open with" is "DiskImageMounter".

I downloaded an update for my Safari web browser to "snow leopard". When I click on the .dmg file, a window opens up with a .pkg file but when I click on the .pkg file I get a prompt saying that it doesn't know what program to open it with.
I suspect if you're trying to open a file in 08 that's been opened in 09 the file has been updated to 09 and will not open in 08.

before using for all entries in, u need to check whether the driver internal table is empty, if it is empty, u should not enter into select statement.
if u wont use this check means, when the driver internal table is empty, the second select will take all the entires from the tables.

iTunes (Win7 x64) is no longer opening after the latest version update - I have attempted an un/reinstall - can anyone offer other suggestions?
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and am trying to reinstall the 64-bit iTunes from the iTunes website. I previously have had this working for the last few years with no major issues, the Apple Software Updater has been pestering me for some time so I finally got it to update. However now iTunes will not start, if I select the icons nothing happens. There are no iTunes applications running in the background in Task Manager either.
I look forward to your suggestions.

James.1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
MSCONFIG
Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
Restart Windows.
2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Files

Help! Folder Windows won't stay open in the Finder
Please, what is causing this and how do I fix it? Some folders will not stay open in the finder. For instance, when I click on the Applications folder (either the actual or alias), the window will try to open, but before it can show its content, it disappears. This doesn't happen with all folders, only some of them. This is very disturbing.
Please help if you can.Through the network I was able to figure out what was going on. There was a weird file, its name was made up of Chinese characters. Whenever it was supposed to show up on the screen of this one mac, the window would close. I guess that particular mac isn't set up to show those characters. I was able to trash that file and that took care of it.

Photoshop files won't open outside the app
I have recently reinstalled Mac OSX 10.4.11 on my G4 PowerPC Mac Mini and Photoshop 8 files no longer open outside of the application ie by double clicking. I had this problem when I first upgraded my system and was advised to delete a particular system file. This solved the problem then but I can no longer remember the culprit file. Can anybody help? CL

Downloaded DMG files don't open.
I have had some trouble lately when downloading DMG files with Safari. In the URL bar I could see it was downloading and then downloaded however nothing happend. Changed to open with DiskUtility didn't do anything. Firewall had no influence. When downloaded with Firefox there was NO problem and everything went fine like it use to do with Safari. So I suspect it is a bug in Safari since this happens with all DMG files of late.
Yes I first looked in my 'Downloads' folder and none to be found. Other download files like mp3 and pdf's no problem, they open straight away and show a little download arrow icon top left in the browser. It's really just DMG files, very peculiar.

Itunes will no longer open with the error message MSVCR80.dII is missing from the computer, and I'm advised to reinstall itunes but that hasn't worked. What else can I try?

My audio files no longer sync to the in the 5d in camera audio. It did when I bought the program but no longer does I reinstalled and it still will not sync the files recorded on the H4N with the Canon 5D Mark II Camera.
The program used to import and transcode the Can 5D footage but no longer does. The program freezes often and looses my projects as well. File Size Discrepancy Between Photoshop & the Finder
I'm trying to be as brief as I can, so here goes. The specific application (PS) is irrelevant, I think. This is about why an app shows one file size & the Finder shows a different file size. In this case, it's a huge difference, due to the file being an image.
I imported into PS CS, from a CD, an original image, which the Finder shows as 269.4 MB. The file format is TIFF, and the bit-depth is 16, not 8. The Finder shows it as a "TIFF Document." Now. I did a Save As and edited that as a master image file. So, I have two files: the original and the master.
I substantially cropped (deleted) pixels in the master file. So, at the same 16-bit depth, the master file should be smaller in size than the original. Right? However, the Finder shows the file to be 433.6 MB in size! Photoshop shows the file to be a more realistic 185.8 MB in size. Why is the Finder showing such a huge file size? Why is the Finder storing 247.8 MB more than I need? The Finder shows this file as an "Adobe Photoshop TIFF file," so there has been a change in format. The file is flattened; no layers, etc., are involved.
One clue could be that the Finder is storing the larger file size to accommodate Photoshop. If one multiplies 185.8 MB by 3, the result is close to the 433.6 MB figure. The 3 stands for the three color channels (red, green, blue) of each pixel (data element) in the image.
The original image, however, is stored correctly by the Finder. Photoshop and the Finder agree on the 269.4 MB file size. If the above scenario were true, the Finder would be storing the original file at three times the size as shown in Photoshop. In other words, there would be consistency in what the Finder is doing.
I suppose I could just ignore the discrepancy, but I have hundreds of images to process, and I don't want to have to go into PS every time to get a true reading of file sizes. The Finder should be accurate in doing that.
I may be in the wrong forum re: Photoshop, but here I think I can find some expertise re: the Finder, since the Finder's storing procedures are in question, to my mind. It's definitely an app/OS interface problem, as I see it. Simply, I edit a file downward in data, save it, yet the Finder saves it at a larger size....do you think a lot of cloning & healing brush might have added to the file size, even though I cropped the image?
Yes, depending on your History settings. The more you work on an image, the more history it accumulates. The more different states and sanpshots you save in the History palette, the bigger the file gets as you work on it, because you're storing (within the file) complete information about the file's state before and after every individual change you make to it. What I don't recall is whether that all gets saved to the file in a Save As, or whether the history is flushed each time the file is Saved.
I should warn you that I am by NO stretch of the imagination a PS expert. I was still using PS 5.0.2 until last February, when I upgraded to CS2 (knowing it will be years before I have enough hardware horsepower to run CS3). I'm a rank beginner with CS2, and if someone else wants to jump in here and point out that I'm all wrong, it will be no surprise to me. And because I never used CS, I don't know whether what I'm describing in CS2 is even relevant here. -

ThanksAfter a system crash your Aperture Library may be corrupted, because Aperture may not have been able to finish the ongoing database transactions.
Have you tried the Aperture Library First Aid Tools?

Try "Repair Database", and if this does not help: "Rebuild Database"

I close the textedit programme , open Pages, click on the 09 pages file to be opened and the message "The document “7-09 receipts” could not be opened. TextEdit cannot open files in the “Pages document”

You have tried to open a .pages document in TextEdit which can't read them.
If you are confused which program you are in look to the top left of the menu.
You can either drag the .pages file onto the Pages icon on the Dock, open it from within Pages' Open dialog, double click on it or right mouse click > open with.

Which means After Effects and Premiere project files are cross-platform. But Encore projects are not cross-platform.

Regarding your last sentence, if you're referring to AE and PPro files, that is true. But it is not true of Encore project files.
