DMM 5.2.2 7835H2 migration to DMM 5.4 VM

Hi all,
We are currently running DDM 5.2.2 on an MCS 7835H2 server and are using DMP 4400's only.  We are looking to migrate to DMM 5.4 as using our Software Upgrade Contract.  I have been reviewing the migration options/upgrade options and understand the process of having to go through the 5.2.2>5.2.3>5.3>5.4>5.4.1.
However i don't have access to either an MCS 7835H3 or a C210 server, but I do have access to a C220M3.  Is there a migration path to take me from 5.2.2 to 5.4.1 running on our UCS B series which are running VMWare 5.0?
I have seen the migration document that references migration from the 7835H2 to the C210 at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/hw/platform/migration/dmm-mcs-ucs.html
But as mentioned above don't have access to a C210 to undertake this.  Is there a way take the configuration from 5.2.2 and import this directly in to a fresh install of 5.4 (I'm guessing not).  can I use the C220 instead of the C210?  If this is possible can I run throught the migration, undertake the upgrades to get me to DMM 5.4.1, install a duplicate DMM 5.4.1 in VMware and backup the C220 and restore to the VMware install?
Thanks for any assitance.
Regards
David
Happy New Year

Hi David,
Regarding licenses, they are tight to the serial number of the hardware, so a new license is always needed after an hardware migration. You just need to email [email protected] after the software initialization on the new hardware as documented at:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_4/dmm/user/guide/admin/licenses.html#wp1156561

  • DMM 5.3 on MCS-7835H3 and DMM-FA-C210-K9 Failover

    Hello,
We are working with a customer that wants to add redundancy to their existing DMM environment. We initially deployed their solution on a MCS-7835H3-DMS server and eventually upgraded it to 5.3. Now they want to add Failover and purchased the DMM-FA-C210-K9 with DMM-FASW-52-K9 from another partner. After sitting idle for several months they have engaged us again to help them figure out a solution.
I see that 5.4 is able to run on a VM. I have the following questions.
Can I upgrade the MCS7835H3-DMS to v.5.4? Based on the 5.4 upgrade document, it appears to be supported.
If we can upgrade the MCS7835HE-DMS to 5.4 will Failover work with the DMM-FA-C210-K9 server?
Since they already have the DMM-FA-C210-K9 server, can it be used as a VMware Host to run 5.4 virtually?
If so, will failover work with the MCS-7835H3-DMS server running 5.4?

    Ray,
The short answer to your two questions is no.  Neither option is supported.
If you are running virtual host both the primary and failover servers must be virtual.  You can not mix types here.
Also the MCS 7835 is not supported in a failover deployment.  Only the DMM-SVR-C210-K9 as the primary server is supported per the 5.4 failover guide. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_4/dms/failover_guide/dmsfailover.pdf .  The DMM-FA-C210-K9 can be used as the standby server though.
    Hope this helps

  • DMM 4.1 to 5.0 migration

Customer has 4.1 running in a test mode on a server that can not be upgraded to 5.0. He has a new DMM 5.0 server installed that he has been testing with and now wants to move all of the presentations that he has been using in the 4.1 system to the 5.0 system.
I had him use the AAI interface to backup the information from the 4.1 system to a usb drive. When he tries to restroe, it sau=ys that there is no 5.0 file there. Is there another way to move these presentations and media files, or is there a lot more work to be done.
    Thanks.

    Server-Based Migration
In server-based migration, the focus is data migration for the storage used by a particular server. All LUNs accessed by the selected server are available for migration to new storage.
    Migration to Larger LUN
To increase the amount of data that an existing server can access, Cisco MDS DMM facilitates migration to a larger LUN. After the migration, expand the file system on the LUN to take advantage of the increased storage space.

  • DMM 5.2.2 - 5.2.3 MCS 7835-H2

    Dear all.
I have a customer who is running DMM 5.2.2 on a MCS 7835-H2. They have purchased a C210 to run DMM 5.2.3 a migrate away from the MCS hardware platform. I know that DMM 5.2.3 is not supported on the MCS hardware platform.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_2/dms/upgrade/guide/523UpgradeGuide.html#wp316812
However, what I would like to do is upgrade their existing 5.2.2 DMM on MCS to 5.2.3 in a migration window. Once it has been completed, backup the system and restore to DMM 5.2.3 on C210.
My question is it actually possible to upgrade DMM 5.2.2 to 5.2.3 on MCS 7835-H2, regardless of whether Cisco will support it or not.
    Thanks in advance, Tim.

Just trying to find out if the migration tool is available and where I might be able to find it?
Any chance it will include pulling the content off the old MCS?  I know this practice isn't recommended.
    Thanks

  • DMM upgrade 5.2 5.4

    Hi Pros,
We are in process of planning an upgrade of DMM server from 5.2 to 5.4.
I have questions if someone can help answer...
    1) We have existing MCS7835-H3 which is listed as supported by DMM 5.4. Does upgrade to DMM 5.4 have to involve installing it in VMWare or is it applicable only to fresh 5.4 installation.
I am assuming that 5.4 can be upgraded on current server without VMWare. Is my assumption correct?
    2) Do I need to upgrade DMM server as 5.2 to 5.2.1, then 5.2.1 to 5.2.2, then 5.2.2 to 5.2.3, then 5.2.3 to 5.3 & finally 5.3 to 5.4 or can I directly upgrade from 5.2 to 5.4 or 5.2 > 5.3 > 5.4?
    Upgrade guide just mentions 5.2 > 5.2.1 > 5.2.2 > 5.2.3 > 5.3 > 5.4. Its not clear to me.
    3) What will be impact on current data on the DMM server. Will it all be able to convert or any special precautions (real world) to be taken.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pratik

    Hi Pratik,
I am afraid that you have to go step by step from version 5.2 till 5.4
    As mentioned by Cisco, for MCS-7835-H3, the supported upgrade path is 5.2 > 5.2.1 > 5.2.2 > 5.2.3 > 5.3 > 5.4.
I know it is painful but in such a way you guarantee a very smooth upgrade.
Make sure to take a backup of all the content, and make sure as well to connect a keyboard, mouse and screen. You will need it during the upgrade process.

  • NI-DMM vs. IVI-DMM - Soft Front Panel

    Hello All,
I have been developing a testing application that will eventually use a PXI-4070 DMM (currently simulating it in NI MAX).  I had been using the IVI DMM functions, but ran into a problem when I couldn't do a diode test (diode test is apparently not officially standardized by IVI yet).  So I switched to using the NI-DMM functions. For the most part, it was a pretty seamless transition, but there is one thing I have not been able to replicate with the NI-DMM simulation that I could do with the IVI-DMM.  When I used the IVI-DMM functions, and ran the VI, a popup opened that allowed me to enter in the simulated value that I wanted the DMM to read.  I can't get this to work with the NI-DMM functions.  Is it possible?  If so please let me know how to activate.  Thanks.

The advanced simulation exists only on the IVI class driver level (IviDmm). The IVI class drivers implement simulation features by using simulation drivers. The IVI Compliance Package (ICP) installs a simulation driver for each IVI class driver. Each simulation driver plugs in to the corresponding class driver and performs flexible output data simulation. The NI-DMM driver is a specific driver that supports series of NI DMMs, and therefore does not include the advanced simulation feature.

  • PXI-4070 DMM in PXIe-1075 Chassis not found

I have a PXIe-1075 chassis and four PXI-4070 DMMs. I orginally had the four DMMs in slots 2,3, 4 & 5 but descided to move the modules around including two of the DMMs so they are in slots 16 and 17. When I did this the DMMs are not found in Measurement and Automation Explorer. If I remove the module in slot 3 (PXIe-2531) they will reappear. The main reason for moving the modules was to maximize through put because slots 2 through 4 share a PCIe switch (as do slots 15 through 18).
Slots 2 through 5 and 15 through 18 should be hybrid compatiable. Are there rules for mixing hybrid and PXIe modules?

    Chris,
I don't know about the original problem, but you can get the reconfiguration effect in device manager.  Open device manager, select view->by connection, and then start expanding things until you find your device.  On my Windows 7 PC the hierarchy starts with something like [computerName]->[ACPI x64-based PC]->[Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System]->[PCI bus]->[something Root Port]->[PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge]...
Go to the PCI-to-PCI bridge listed under the root port and above the devices in your chassis, right-click and select "uninstall".  Open Measurement and Automation Explorer and delete the devices (they should be non-present).  Then either reboot or go to device manager's munu item action->scan for hardware changes.  That should cause Windows to re-find all your devices.

  • DMM IVI read measurement update

    Hi,
I am using Teststand DMM IVI step to measure voltage to ground via 100K ohm pull-up resistance to 20V supply. While monitoring this voltage using external DMM it shows 13.4V however after "DMM IVI Read" step is ran the external DMM voltage shows 19.7V!! Any idea why this is happening, I'm using:
    NI DMM 4070
    TestStand 4.1

  • Problems of installing NI-DMM on Labview 8.5

    Hi ,
I bought PXI chasis, PXI controller, and DMM (PXI 4071).
Labview 8.5 has been installed in Windows XP in controller. I tried to install NI-DMM.
But after installation, I didn't find nidmm.lib under labview 8.5, that is, there is no nidmm.llb under instr.lib of  labview8.5.
So when I open example "Switch scanning with DMM-handshanking.vi" the all vi of DMM are displayed as "?".
What is wrong with my installation?
         Thanks.

    Hi AhGang,
It does sound as if your installation of NI-DMM failed.
First, however, I would check to see if NI-DMM is on your system, partially installed or perhaps in another location. You can open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and expand the Software Tab in the Configuration Tree to the left. Under Software, you should see NI-DMM if it was properly installed. You can also check by going to Start>> All Programs>> National Instruments>> NI-DMM.
Second, I would look in the Control Panel, under Add/Remove Programs>> National Instruments Software>> NI-DMM. If NI-DMM is present in this location you can try to Modify the installation, which should let you indicate where you would like the driver to install.  If modifying the installation doesn’t fix the problem, you could remove and then reinstall the driver.
If NI-DMM is not present in any of these locations, then the installation was a complete failure and you will need to reinstall the driver.
I hope this explanation helps. Good luck, Mallori M.

  • DMM and switch systems

I am trying to put together a system that is capable of measuring 48 current shunts that I would like to maintain isolation from the SCXI chassis ground.  I am considering using a PCI 4065 and an SCXI-1127 or 1128 switch module, 2 of one of them.  What I am unsure about is which type of switch I should use, the solid state or relay?  Also I am not sure how the termination of wires should be made.  Each shunt will have two wires coming from it.  Should these two wires from each shunt go into the switch module and are then all terminated at the DMM?  Is there a cleaner way to do this or is my assumption incorrect on the wiring strategy?
    Is there a better solution?
Will the DMM provide results similar to a handheld DMM?  i.e. averaging the voltage level read.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
FET switches such as the SCXI-1128 will have a faster scan
rate and lower power requirements than mechanical relay switches such as the
SCXI-1127.  The advantage of using a mechanical
relay is the amount of current it can switch and carry.  You should base your decision on the specifications
of your input signal and how fast you will eventually need to scan through the
    channels.
The two wires from each shunt will connect to the terminal block (which will have inputs corresponding to the channels of your switch module) and the DMM will connect to the output of the switch
module (through the terminal block).  Scanning through the channels
will connect one channel to your output (DMM) at a time.  The Developer Zone articles: How to connect signals to the SCXI-1127 and How to connect signals to the SCXI-1128 describe the connections in detail.  The DMM will then average the voltage measurements
to provide a more accurate reading.

  • DMM 5.4 and Show and Share

I noticed that DMM 5.4 is no longer supporting Show and Share.  I was just wondering what the Road Map is?  Is that coming later, or is Show and Share being phased out?  What would be the replacement if we currently use DMM 5.3 and Show and Share?
    Thanks!

    Bill,
The version of DMM that now comes with the CXS bundle does not support signage (DMPs).  The current purchase path if you need SNS & DMPs is to purchase an SNS/DMM combo plus an AppSpace or standalone DMM box.

  • DMM 5.0.2 Play in future

    Hello,
I have DMM Version 5.0.2. When I trie the feature Play in Future under the Schedule Tab I can not see the calender.
    I use a German WIN-XP-Prof, SP3, Java Version 1.6.0.
    Any idea?

The Symptoms that you are seeing "Typically" has to do with your BROWSER & JAVA versions.
    1. What Browser & Version is the Client using (ie. MS IE 6\7, Firefox 2\3, Safari..)?
    * Verify Browser versions against the DMS Compatibility Matrix.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/dms_compat.html
    2. What Version of JAVA is the Client running? If there are Multiple JAVA Versions Installed,
What is the PREFERRED JAVA version for Client?
    * Verify JAVA by checking JAVA settings or Running a JAVA Checker Tool
    http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
    3. Is the Problem being seen on Other Clients or Specific to this One Client or Select
    Group Clients?
    4. When did this issue Start? Has the Scheduling ever worked on the DMM Server?
If so, what has changed with your client?
    Actions:
    * Clear the Client's Browser Cache, Remove Security Certificates for the DMM Server, Remove the
Cookies for the DMM Server. After these actions have been performed, Restart the Browser and
    Try Again.
    * Try Using a Different Browser from the Problem Client. For Example, If you are using IE, Try
accessing DMD with FireFox Version 2.x (Not FireFox 3.x).
    * Verify JAVA Version and Clear the JAVA CACHE and Try Again.
    http://java.com/en/download/help/5000020300.xml
    * Try accessing DMM-DSM Scheduler from another Client Local & Remote to see if the problem is experienced on
    other Clients.

  • DMM issue

    Dear All,
I have DMM version 5.0.2 that controlled about 35 DMP's over WAN and the DMP's displayed design contains one Video play list and two none video play lists ,the non video play lists integrated with two applications .
my issue is in last Wednesday 35/3/09 the administrator can't access the web page of the DMM server and the DMP's displayed the video only and the problem solved by made a restart for the server .
and the administrator told me that this issue is periodically every month .
so I need a help to know the reason of the problem .
    Thanks ,
    Ahmed Ellboudy

    Ahmed,
    Thanks for the update!
    - How often does this happen? Is the interval the same amount of days (ie. every 30 days)?
    - Steps to follow at next occurrence:
    * SSH to the DMM Server
    * Select SHOW INFO and Capture Print Screen of information.
Press OK to go back to MAIN AAI Menu
    * Select GET_SYSLOG
The logs will hopefully gives an idea of what is going on with the Server. There appears to be some services that are failing or stopped which requires a reboot to get things working again.
    * Go back to Main Menu, Select Digital Media Manager Control. Select BACKUP DMM.
    * The Next step is to OPEN a Service Request with Cisco TAC Center.
    Please provide the following information:
    - Detailed Description of the Problem
    - Steps Taken to Resolve Issue (Work Around)
    - Attach the Print Screen Capture of the SHOW INFO of the DMM Server & the SYSLOGs downloaded from the DMM.
    - Attach DMM Backup File
The Cisco TAC Engineer can then review the Logs and Setup a test bed with your DB to see if he\she can recreate your issue.
    I hope this helps..

  • Problem of measurering wrong resistance on DMM with scanner

    Hello.
I want to be taught the way for measuring correct resistance on DMM with scanner.
Now,  I have connectted DMM and Scanner and use GP-IB for measurement.
The measurement program is for mesureing tenperature using Pt100 and it set scanning 30 chanel.
First turn, It is correct resistance but second turn, suddenly, the resistance decrease.
Instruments turn off for a while, this program sometime good performance so I don't think instruments is wrong.
Please tell me good advie for me.
I'm looking forward to your response.
    thank you.

    Hi Mr Kazu
I have seen your VI.As there are some sub VIS are absent and I have no DMM just like yours, I could not run your VI.You are using two instruments(DMM and the Scanner) together. If you use only the DMM, what about the result.you told that resistance value on DMM is correct for the 1st cycle. What about the next cycles?
Your problem is a little bit complicated to debug. So I suggest you to perform a simple test to read resistance value from DMM.
You can do it in MAX(NI Measurement & Automation Explorer).Just open MAX and you can see your GPIB interface under "Device and Interface".Right click on GPIB interface and select "Instrument scan".Your DMM should be detected.right click on DMM and select "Communication with instrument".It will open "NI 488.2 communicator".Just input command and click query.Let me know the result.
Another way for simple test is to use "Instrument I/O assistant(block diagram→Input→Instrument I/O assistant).
Would you please tell me whether there is any error sign on DMM when you start your program?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Trying to measure voltage through SCXI-1127/1331 2-wire connection [ Edited ]

    Hai ,
this is madhava from LSU,I am working on ERT with  NI hardwares like 1)chasis 1000 2) DMM PCI-4060  3)  SCXI -1331(2 in number)
I have a system with two large glass plates standing vertically and placed parallel to the user.I am trying to flow different liquids of density through the channel in between. Please  see a attached picture of it.
There are total of 48 electrodes 24 on each side to which wires are connected. On each side there are 3 rows with 8 electrodes/row, say 1-24 on side A and 24-48 on side B. The medium between the two sides is salt water.
I want to measure the potential in such a manner that  I can calculate the voltage difference between all possible electrode combinations between side A and side B.I have connected a  two end power source to side A and side B, i.e. +ve to side A and  -Ve to side B , so   the  electrode on the A side acts as the "source" and the electrode on the B side acts as "sink".
I want to use 2 SCXI- 1331 's for this experiment.
I tried it with 1  SCXI - 1331, but did not get proper values. So what do you suggest shall I continue this with the 1  wire or could you please help me with the two wire experiment, so that I can get more combinations.
I hope you respond soon and in the affirmative.

Welcome to the discussion forums, Madhava!
The optimal solution is to have a 2x48 (or more) matrix so
that you could easily choose one point on either plate (column) connected to
one lead of the DMM (row0) and another point on the other DMM lead (row1).
Since the SCXI-1127 doesn’t support this configuration, you’ll have to try
something else with your existing hardware.
Because you can only use a multiplexer setup instead of a
matrix for your number of signals, the closest you can get to the above
suggestion is to measure one electrode to ground and then read the next
electrode to ground and include logic to find the difference between the two voltages.
I suggest you start with a LabVIEW shipping example (Help » Find Examples) such as niSwitch
DMM Switch Synchronous Scanning.vi or niSwitch
DMM Switch Handshaking.vi (found under Hardware
Input and Output » Modular Instruments » NI-SWITCH). You will have to modify
it to include another SCXI-1127 and set them both up in a 1-wire 64x1 multiplexer
topology. Take measurements as quickly to each other as possible on both
switches. Again, this is a workaround to what you really should be doing for
optimal performance (and the easiest setup).
The last option is to limit your measurements to electrodes
directly across from each other (or any other fixed mapping setup) and use a
2-wire 32x1 multiplexer topology. By nature, this is taking a differential
signal measurement between two constant points. This would allow you to easily
use LabVIEW’s shipping examples without modification.
I hope this helps you get a feel for your options and the
    consequences of each.
