DMS Solution

Hello,
I want to work on DMS (Document Management System) solution, and i want to know prior developing the application that Is there an integration of scanners and image encoders and decoders (i know its more updated on ver1.4 or with JAI), but haven't looked yet in detail, i m looking on it. I want to scan documents from my application and store it into database in BLOBs and retrieve it back and put OCR on it to make the search more flexible, and things like that, please if anyone has done this, or doing things like this could give a reply on this stating if its possible or not and how?

DMS Solution with ECDS Systems

Hi ,
I wonder whether anyone deployed the DMS Solution ( TCS, MXE,TCS,DMM, Nexus on demad) with Cisco ECDS systems(MDE 3125/1125). I am working on a project where i need to deploy all these deviecs. I like to undestand the work flow between DMS components and ECDS devices. DMS Solution works as it suppose to, but dont have an idea how i can integrate this solutiuon with the ECDS devices. are there any step by step document to integrate the DMS solution with the ECDS.
Also, i found a document for ECDS/SNS integration and they emntioned it needs the external streaming server for the Integration. Can some one confirm this?.

Dispute Case attachments: CMS, DMS, RMS, ArchiveLink... Confused!

Hi,
We're starting to implement SAP Collections & Dispute Mgmt. One of the things that excited our business users on the SAP solution was the ability to attach unlimited (word, pdf, jpg, email, etc) files directly to the Dispute case. However, we have a large volume of disputes and estimate to wish to attach an annual total of ~500,000 files, ~200Gb directly to Dispute cases.
But I'm confused as to the options we have in doing this and the potential pros/cons related to those options. From the documentation I have found, I see references to SAP DMS (Document Management System), SAP CMS (Content Management System), SAP RMS (Records Management System), SAP ArchiveLink, and also SAP integration "3rd party DMS solutions" (whatever those are...)
Is SAP CMS & SAP RMS the same thing?
Has anyone implemented a 3rd party DMS solution? If so, what were the benefits of this over the SAP solutions?
Has anyone else implemented Disputes with a large volume of attachements?

Hi,
DisP.Mgt uses RMS as base so when you link objects in UDM_DISPUTE then you already using RMS. Archivelink & CMS are connected to RMS so if you create an archivelink document in UDM_DISPUTE, you would be creating an archivelink document in ARL already.CMS is in the base for managing content. This is done for all RMS objects & would already be set up. What is means is that if you store say a archivelink documetn then meta data is stored in sap DB but content sits in content server. This content server can be SAP own or 3rd-party. Same goes for RMS objects like cases, records, editable documents.

DMS Content Server installation error

Dear all:
We're now installing our SAP Content Server 640 for our DMS solution. The environment is Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise Edition SP2, SAP Content Server 640, and MaxDB 7.6. In the installtion initial screen, we choose the option to install the content server, the system reports an error even before it starts the installtaion process. The error message is
"FCO-00011 The step changeUserInstall with step key |SAP_CONTENT_SERVER|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|Preinstall|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|changeUserInstall was executed with status ERROR " in step "initial password manager".
Please help.

DMS Server Separate from R/3 server

Hi Joydeep,
DMS solution is part of ECC4.6,5.0,6.0 offering. It only needs to be turned on/configured. You would need a content,cache server/s in DMS for parking your documents based on your requirements.DMS configuration is done by a Functional Consultant,Content Server setup is Basis associates' responsibility and enhancements are managed by an ABAPer.

I've looked at this and I don't think its doable with the video portal in its current version. I take it you are trying to sale content through your video portal. The DMS system definitely doesn't support this. There is no hierarchial permissioning of content and no way to have an e-commerce portal launch when a video is clicked before it begins playing. I don't think it is on the roadmap either.

QM certificates vs. DMS

Hi
SAP recommends to use the Archivelink functionality to store In-coming QM certificates. However, these business documents cannot be linked to other SAP objects, like for instance an Equipment (tools). An alternative solution could be to use the Document Management System, but this is not integrated into the transactions QC51/QC55. Is there anyone outthere which has experience with alternative solutions, e.g. how to integrate the DMS solution to the QM certificate.

Hi Anders,
regarding the linkage of SAP objects to document info records, you can see
all the available SAP standard objects in function group CV130 under "Screens" in transaction SE80.
I'm not sure about the behaviour in transaction QC51/QC52 but if you can link
document to QM certificates, it should be possible to see some document overview. Maybe there is some entry in the menu bar, which shows the linked documents.

Audio streaming using DMS

I have a large financial shop who wants to do audio streaming, ie bloomberg audio feeds to their clients. Do you think the DMS solution would be a fit here?
2nd question: Can DMS stream audio to an IP Phone? Or would one need a CUAE like application for this?

Are you talking about the video portal or digital signage?
The answer for the video portal is "yes" Just use a windows *.wma file codec, and have the portal listen to its URL source or mount the file on the DMM for AoD playback.
For a Digital Media Player for Digital signage, the answer would be No on the streaming in the true since of streaming audio.
The DMP will play back the following audio codecs.
Audio MPEG1 Layers 1 and 2
MPEG4 AAC Low Complexity
AC-3
DMS cannot stream video to an IP phone, there is a one to one relationship between the DMM and the Video portal. The endpoints are either the video portal or a Digital Media Player.

Word Templates and EASY Document Management

Hi all
I am currently evaluating Easy DMS for a customer and a couple of questions popped up.
Is it possible to create new Word documents based on a template from SAP DMS directly in MS Word?
Is it possible to use DMS Template documents in EASY DMS.
By templates I mean, MS Word documents stored in SAP DMS that have been customised as templates?
Lastly, can we use the mergefield technology of SAP DMS, in the new WebUI, in the EASY DMS solutions. I.e. can the new word document include metadata, like Document Status, if it was created using the WebUI and the EASY DMS solutions?
Any answers are greatly appreciated.

Document Management System for Struts Project

I am doing a J2EE project in struts, in which i need to implement document management system containing the following features :
1. File Upload/Download
2. File Sharing
3. Giving Permissions to Files, etc
Instead of building a DMS from the scratch I am looking for a open source DMS solution which I can customize as per my needs and implement in my project. Since my project is based on struts, I am looking for a struts based solution.

Uploading YouTube videos/urls into Cisco Show and Share

We've just purchased the DMM 5.2 and the Show and Share appliance to host internal company videos but there are some YouTube videos out there that we want to pull into our Show and Share system as well. How can we do this? I've tried every possible combination of youtube url and embedded url that is out there, at least nothing that I've tried has worked thus far. I'm able to pull in other internal URLs of different videos (wmv format) without any trouble. Is this an issue with YouTube or perhaps with flv formatted video that YouTube uses (which should work according to the manual).
I know this is a new product, but is there anyone that can help?

The YouTube videos are typically Flash content.
The key here is that you need to download the Flash content
yourself and then Upload to the Show and Share.
Use the DIRECT URL of the Flash Content on YouTube to download
the FLV to you Personal device. After file successfully download, simply
upload the file to Show and Share.

We have a requirement in our Distribustion Center (Warehouse). They want to have possibility on selected documents printed automatically during pick/pack.
The scenario is to store product/spareparts document in multiple language in document management server. and when creating pick list in SAP, system should look for any materials in the delivery document which has such stored document and print the document in relevant language.
Also, this printing should happen automatically in the background without having to manually open the document and print.
I think the first part we can achieve using SAP DMS solution and storing document via material master (MM02).
But, we are wondering if anyone came across such requirement ? and how eventually solved it ? Is it possible in standard SAP or some minor development ? Also if any third party product exist as out-of-the-box ?
Any input, most appreciated.

I have TREX installed. I want to know how and if its possable to get TREX to read/index the documents that are in our contents server as part of out DMS solution.
I need to know the transactions in R3 46c to get link to TREX and if there is anything i need do to TREX to get this to work. Have only installed the ABAP part of TREX

So I believe you have configured the RFC server as you would be connecting through an ABAP Client.
Are you going to access the TREX search engine through the normal search functionalities of R/3? Would you be doing certain configuration to activate the indexing?

I received two solutions from Peoplesoft Cutomer connection:
1) Solution to the Script: BR688701_01.dms and Script: MX688701_3.dms
Based on the log that you're attaching to the ICE. I assume that the customer didn t follow the instructions in the correct order, the instructions are attached on the Documentation for the Maintenance Pack and I'm copying the steps they should have followed
First: Execute an Alter Without Delete, this step create the field YEARCD in records, and keep the field YEAR with their data.
Second: Run the script BR688701_01.dms to copy data from the field YEAR to field YEARCD.
Third: Execute an Alter With Delete; this step drops the field YEAR from such tables.
In the pack "PeopleSoft Enterprise HRMS and Campus Solutions 9.0 - Maintenance Pack 4" and inside the upd753469.zip in file upd753463_install.htm it s explained how to apply this package.
If the customer did the first alter with delete then the field YEAR will not longer exist in the record therefore the script BR688701_01.dms will error, this script updates the new YEARCD field using the previous field YEAR.
2) Solution to the Script: upd711280_02.dms SOLUTION
Maintenance Pack Change Assistant template is not correct for this MP 9 Multi language. SEQ_NBR is a key field after applying Maintenance Pack 9 for HCM 8.9.
Ignore the error from the Run Alter Task_2 step and mark that step as completed and continued the Change Assistant job. The next step was running a Datamover script to load the values from the field SEQNUM in the new field SEQ_NBR, and then Build and Alter Task once again. In that step the creation of the index will be fine and the SEQ_NBR field will be filled with right values.
