  • DMS Installation and configuration

    Hi,
I have a requirement of installing DMS. I have some questions and issues.
I have installed an ECC 6.0 server and I can see it has DMS components.
I studied some of the guides and got that we have to do DMS customizing through following paths
SAP reference IMG under SAP Netweaver--> Application server u2192 Basis Services u2192 Knowledge Provider.  and
SAP NEtweaver --> Knowledge Management --> Settings in knowledge warehouse system
I am not sure what all settings we need to do here. I found some guides but still have confusions.
I have also read that SAP CONTENT SERVER has to be used with DMS. I downloaded it and installed it. And then in the guide it says to try to go to URL http://<hostname>:<portno.>/ContentServer/ContentServer.dll?serverInfo
to check if the Content Server is in running status.
But when i go to this URL, it says page can nit be found.
Do we have to use Content Server with DMS. I have a seperate ECC 6.0 server as DMS server and other ECC6.0 landscape which I will have to connect to DMS.
What path should I follow? Should I have to use Content Server or only ECC6.0 DMS server. What all settings we need to do?
    Kindly help
    Tajinder

    Dear Tajinder
It's not mandatory to have separate content server, if you have installed ECC 6 & if your volume of data/ documents is not huge.
But if the volume of data is huge, then it's advisable to have content server installed. Then integrate content server with ECC 6 server (It's Basis consultant's job).
Configuration point of view, it purely depends on your requirement. It can't be generalized.
If you are not using separate content server, then you'll have to use "KPro" & check in all your files in "Default Storage DMS" (DMS_C1_ST) .
If you have separate content server then you need to configure the storage location to check in file.
I hope this information helps you.
    Thanks

  • DMS data carrier configuration

I'm working with 4.0B and I have configured data carrier for my PM users. The problem is that it does not work:
User requirement: to attached document from LAN via CV01.
    I have done the following:
    1. Identify front-end computers
    DATA CARRIER - default
    TYPE (DATA CARRIER ) - w1
    NET ADDRESS - default
DESCRIPTION - default for local pc
    2. Define mount points/ logical drive
    DATA CARRIER - ML_PM
    TYPE (DATA CARRIER) - w1
    PREFIX FOR ACCESS PATH-
    mlavofn1\Organization\Field Operations\PMDir\
legend:  mlavofn1 is LAN server and the rest the files directory.
The whole length of the configuration is less than 70 characters.
    Error:
    mlavofn1\Oragnization\Field Operations\PMDirl\:
which comes with 3 additional characters l\: at end of the string.
message no is 26 136 and when I checked for note, 26 136 basically meant for access path more than 70 characters.
My question is whether my configuration is correct or not??. if correct then it could a bug or other factors.
    Appreciate advise on my configuration.
    Thanks

    HI Marcos,
While in DC20 please see the small blue help button for more information on define data carrier also the below link may provide you some additional useful information.

  • DMS with varient configuration

    hi all,
I am using the varient configuration in SAP , what we want that based on the characteristic value system should select the document , I don't know how to go about it , Please help me !

    Dear Amit,
Go to SPRO --> Cross Application Component --> Classification System --> Classes --> Maintain Object Types & Class Types, now in your scenario, you want to use the document in PO but you are using the class type 300 which is for Variant Configuration, so choose the class type 300 and go into details ...check whether the "Document" screen options is selected or not, if not then select that and Save.
I hope this will solve your issue, similarly you can get into class type 48 and check the settings used accordingly.
    Reward Points if it helps,
    Regards,
    N
In case all this sound complicated to you, simply in your document "document type" enter the class type and class..that should also solve your purpose..!!!
    Regards,
    N

  • SAP DMS - How to do an external DMS configuration for the existing system ?

    Hi All.
    Greetings.
    Request help and understanding.
Am new to the world of SAP. And request SOME clarity for understanding of DMS.
We are wanting to put an external DMS server and wish to configure for the same.
So that the load on the production SAP R/3 database is reduced.
We are now wanting to test the same on Dev environment.
    From SDN Link :
    I understand that :
DMS basically has a content server. which stores documents.
That can be accessed through Web, SAP R/3 Gui , SAP Portal.
I have gone thro various links and the following links i have found to be informative and helpful :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/c1/1c31a243c711d1893e0000e8323c4f/frameset.htm
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/DMS+Customizing
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/59/fba637fcf7dc39e10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm
However, would like to know the following because am not getting the clarity :
    1) Is there any supported platform / compatibility guide for DMS ?
if yes, can someone send me the link?
    2) We have oracle 11g as our for SAP R/3 backend.
Windows 2003 server 64 bit system.
When i check the system status on the dev server of sap.
It says. ECC 6.0 Rel 7.00 update 20 (hOpe am reading it correctly)
After much search on the SMP site,
we finally discovered and downloaded the DMS software for unicode and / 64 bit.
Which we saw under the maintenance components separately seen for DMS 7.0
Now for this DMS content server which we would like to make it external for storage of documents -
do we need to have a separate database for this purpose as a repository.
If i run a setup of DMS - will that automatically install any default repository for this or
will it allow me to choose any other repository for the same ?
    Can anyone advise on this.
Because this link says content server is based on Instance of MAXDB : http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/59/fba637fcf7dc39e10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm
    3) I read some thing like this on some of the SDN links :
    P40 - Integration of DMS
    P62 - R&D Document Manage¬ment and Workflow
    P71 - Document management
    What are they referring to.
    4) We would be accessing these thro web, gui, customised portal.
This content server configuration is a bit confusing.
    5) Is SNC configuration required to be done for the separate DMS server setup.
If yes, how to do that ? any configuration link for that please ?
Can anyone advise on the things to do.
    Steps to do.
What all are the pre-requisites to check, before we start the set up of DMS.
Can anyone help me understand this whole thing regarding the DMS installation and configuration.
Step-wise.. from the start to end.
Because it gives me a lot of uneasiness without having everything in place before we could say we could start the whole process of configuration / installation.
Many thanks for your help in advance.
Wishing you a happy and relaxed weekend.
    Kind regards
    Indu

    Thanks christoph & pradeep kumar.
did a few more research and atleast have come to understand that.
DMS server installation has content server which works only with MAXDB.
    So my understanding is correct.
And what we see as Easy DMS is a client installation.
which probably i would look at at a later stage.
Found this link to be a little more informative :
    http://www.sapfans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=330558
I really wish. That life were to be so easy. To call a consultant and finish it off
    Wishful thinking
    thanks and cheers

  • DMS configuration in 4.6C. Configuration Documentation?

    Hello everybody.
I have just been assigned to configure DMS on 4.6C system using IXOS as a storage place for the documents. I have never worked with DMS before and after banging around the IMG, document type and data carrier tyes, I think I am totally lost. I was wondering if you have any documentation that will help me understand the DMS and its configuration from Basis Prospective, specially in IMG? We are planning to to use DMS for only word and pdf documents. I tried to use the IMG documentation, but some how it dd not help me in figuring out the relationship between different Document Management System in IMG. I

  • Help required in DMS Installation

    Hi,
I am planning to install DMS 6.0 system.
I didnt find any proper installation/configuration guide in SAP service marketplace. Also, in help.sap.com the documentaion is not at all technical. Also, the guide i find is eDMS which is just the client.
Can someone guide me properly how to install DMS. What are the prerequisite for installing DMS.
What is the procedure to install DMS? Do i need to install content server for DMS? What configuration needs to be done in ECC system to access DMS system?
    Please help me in this.
    Regards,
    Chintan

    Hi,
SAP DMS can found under( SAP GUI)
SAP ERP(customization) Central Component >> Cross-Application Components >> Document Management"
    And in SAP menu(user):
    Logistic-> Central functions->Document management system->Document
Contentserver installation is depending on user requirement.
If you have not installed content server no problem, but  to start with DMS functionality the data starage will be in SAP valt or DB .
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Seema Pilankar

  • Use of SAP DMS & SAP Archive Link both together

    Dear DMS Experts,
I am little bit new to DMS and have very less idea about functionalities and capabilities of SAP DMS & Archive Link.
    I have got few questions:
    1. Is it possible to use both SAP DMS & SAP Archive link togther.
For example, there are certain objects like GRN, Invoice, Employee etc which are not supported in standard DMS.
However, they are supported in archive link.
But at the same time, there is requirement of setting and resetting of some statuses of the documents attached with PM notification or with PR / PO. This functionality is available with SAP DMS.
So I want to know, is it possible to use SAP archive link for few objects and SAP DMS for other objects.
    2. In case of SAP archive link configuration, we need to define link between Object Type, Document type and content repository
in node "Edit Links" under "Basic Customizing" under "ArchiveLink".
Here we can not use all the content repository which we have created normally. But we can use only limited content repository ID.
How does system decides, which content repository id can be used.? Where can i define that.?
    3. With SAP archive link, can i store my documents in the same content repository in which I am storing my all the documents with SAP DMS. I mean to say, both the SAP DMS & Archive link, can share the same content repository.
We are having a seperate content server and requirement is to store all the documents in content server only.
Would request you all to please help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Mihir Popat

..is it possible to use SAP archive link for few objects and SAP DMS for other objects...
Yes,you may use Archivelink for static documents that would be required purely for reference while DMS can be configured to handle documents that are more dynamic in nature (that require status change, version, revisions et-al)
..both the SAP DMS & Archive link, can share the same content repository. We are having a seperate content server and requirement is to store all the documents in content server only...
Yes,you may store DMS and Archivelink documents can reside on the same Content Server.Content repository is a logical area/partition,hence you may create one content repository for DMS and another for Archivelink(on the same Content Server).

  • AutoVue Web Services - DMS Args

I am attempting to use AutoVue web services.
I have this installed and setup to the point I have a java test client that consumes the ping method fine and returns what is expected.
When I try to perform the convert functionality the web service hits our java servlet when trying to get at a document in Livelink DMS but the configured dms arguments from the third_party_int.properties are not being sent through and I cannot see why?
I presume the fact it actually hits our servlet means it can see the DMS option in the config that has the URL in the .properties file but the rest don't seem to be picked up and sent?
In the java debugger the dms args object is null so I am hoping I have missed something ... Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
    Nick

    Thanks Reza.
I tried what you suggested and I still do not get the missing property in the XML.
After restoring the vuelinkLL.properties file I see the following in the log file if this helps:

  • Port 7200 conflict?

    Hi,
This post is actually about a problem that we're having with an Oracle Identity Federation (OIF) installation where the Oracle Apache/OHS is dying periodically, but I think that this problem is something to do with the infrastructure. This installation is on Redhat.
We are seeing these msgs in the Apache/Apache/logs/error_logXXXXXX files:
[Thu Jun  5 20:33:06 2008] [crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1 port 7200
[Thu Jun  5 20:33:09 2008] [crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1 port 7200
[Thu Jun  5 20:33:11 2008] [crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1 port 7200
[Thu Jun  5 20:33:15 2008] [crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1 port 7200
[Thu Jun  5 20:33:17 2008] [crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1 port 7200
[Thu Jun  5 20:34:21 2008] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized (pid 21879)
    [Thu Jun  5 20:34:22 2008] [notice] Oracle-Application-Server-10g/10.1.2.0.2 Oracle-HTTP-Server configured -- resuming normal operations
These msgs are occurring with groups of 5 of those errors, but the period between each occurrence of groups of error msgs is inconsistent. I've seen them happen between 30 - 90+ minutes apart.
I've done an "lsof | grep 7200", and I see:
    emagent 23563 oifadmin 9u IPv4 478045 TCP localhost.localdomain:13837->localhost.localdomain:7200 (CLOSE_WAIT)
    emagent 23563 oifadmin 11u IPv4 478143 TCP localhost.localdomain:13850->localhost.localdomain:7200 (ESTABLISHED)
    emagent 23563 oifadmin 15r IPv4 477946 TCP localhost.localdomain:13820->localhost.localdomain:7200 (CLOSE_WAIT)
    httpd 26740 oifadmin 15u IPv4 473172 TCP localhost.localdomain:7200 (LISTEN)
    httpd 26748 oifadmin 15u IPv4 473172 TCP localhost.localdomain:7200 (LISTEN)
So, it seems like emagent maybe and Apache are both trying to use port 7200? The Apache is listening on localhost:7200 because dms.conf is configured to listen on localhost:7200.
This was a fairly "vanilla" installation... basically I just took all the installation defaults, so I don't understand why I'm having this problem and what to do about it.
Can anyone suggest the best way to eliminate this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
I re-visited my testing, and especially the lsof output, and it seems like SOMETHING was listening on port 7200 that conflicted with OHS.
The lsof showed emagent, but it looks like that was emagent connecting TO port 7200, not that emagent was listening ON port 7200.
So, I just did another test, where I commented out the "include" in httpd.conf which includes dms.conf, hoping that if OHS wasn't listening on port 7200, that I'd be able to see the SOMETHING that was trying to listen on 7200.
However, when I did that NOTHING was listening on port 7200.
So, it seems like whatever is conflicting with OHS and listening on port 7200 is only running if I have that "dms.conf" "include" line in the httpd.conf.
I guess the question is: When the "dms.conf" is included in the httpd.conf, does that cause another process to be started up, and what process is that?
Does anyone have any idea about this?
    Thanks,
    Jim
P.S. NOTE that when I change the port # in dms.conf and restart OHS, then the problem "moves" with the new port #, i.e., I get a conflict on the new port #.
So, the port that whatever process is started by OHS is listening on changes when I change the port # in dms.conf and then do the dmctl command.

  • Mod_onsint: Unable to match diagnostic port

I've completed a B2B & BPEL migration from 10.1.2.0.0 to 10.1.2.0.2 on our test server.
Everything else seems to be ok except this.
The HTTP server is bouncing about once per minute and I keep getting these same messages over and over:
[warn] mod_onsint: Unable to match diagnostic port to a port in the port list. Adding the diagnostic port as a new port to the opmn dms port list. It is host 127.0.0.1. port:7202.
[notice] Oracle-Application-Server-10g/10.1.2.0.2 Oracle-HTTP-Server configured -- resuming normal operations
[notice] Accept mutex: fcntl (Default: sysvsem)
[notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized (pid 7580)
    I've tried reconfiguring ports, etc...
I can't find any hits that point to these messages and am having no luck getting this to work.
    HELP??

I was finally able to get the HTTP server to quit bouncing, but the only way I could was to disable DMS altogether (commented out the include in the conf file...)
So now the question is, how should the ports in dms.conf be configured??

  • Mail to Responsible Person

    Hello Experts,
I am PS consultant. I have some queries regarding DMS as i have not used it before.
My client wants that wherever we attach a document to an activity, that document should be mailed to responsible person and
also wherever there is change in that document then also responsible person should get a mail regarding the change in document.
Can anybody tell me how to do that ?
    Thanks
    Kushal

    Hi Kushal,
Document Distribution & Workflow processes will help you achieve your clients requirement. read below for an overview of these concepts.
Document Distribution: Consider that while tracking a production order, you notice that a number of CAD drawings need to accompany the PO. That means someone will have to manually print the CAD drawings and individually attach them to the order. This creates a high margin for error: What if you send the wrong drawing? What if itu2019s an outdated design or even one that is still a work in progress? These kinds of errors cost organizations time and money.Hence, its prudent to ensure that these documents are distributed(manually/automated) by the system and a log of the same is maitained for reference.
Workflow: It is more about getting the right information to many people at the right time.It is process oriented. Some example processes where workflow can be adopted is:
    -Document reviews
    -Requesting a new material number
    -ECM process
    -BoM review et-al...
The below link will provide you with more details on configuring Document Distribution

I have used SAP doc mgmt for years. We copied a client and now when I configure a Class to my DMS DIR and go to CV01n Additional Data NONE of the characteristic entry boxes show up. Additional Data is blank.
It appears there must be some high level setting missing in the client. I have checked all authorizations and cannot find a difference between this client and all of the other clients we have. Only this one client does not show the class characteristics in the Additional Data tab.
Any ideas of why this standard function is not working). It does not matter which DIR I config the 017 class to, nothing shows on Additional Data.

    Hi,
The issue is resolved. We are working in a sandbox with Class configuration on a DMS issue related to standard class 017. There are no standard settings in SPRO - Cross-Application Components | Maintain Object Types and Class Types | for the object type DRAW that will allow "auto-populating" characteristic values as we do with VC class 300.
For whatever reason DRAW and class 017 are not configured by SAP in the same manner as class 300 for example.
We made a config entry for DRAW Class 017 VBAP. Let's just say the system did not like that.
    We are exploring other options.
