Dmwiz.sh, etc., Newbie confusion

I'm finding the creation of domains and servers a bit confusing. If I use the "Admin
Server with Managed Servers(s)" option, that doesn't seem to create the managed server
instance. Do I still need to create the managed server instance with "Managed Server
(with woning Dmin Server configuration)"? I've seen some very smart people get
confused when trying to show me how this is supposed to work. Is there a plath to
clarity regarding setting up a WL domain? It would be helpful to have a complete
beginning to end path to setting up a basic domain with managed servers. Perhaps
it exists, but I haven't found it.

When you chose this option, the domain configuration wizard first creates
managed server's and then it creates an admin server. Can you re-run the wizard and double
check?
The wizard clearly states in each screen that it's configuring managed server or admin
server etc....
Not sure why you find it confusing.

  • IPhoto Exporting Quality Size dpi etc. etc. Confused?

    Life used to be simple!
    JPEG Quality:
If I wanted a photo for view on the web or my computer screen, I wanted a resolution of 72dpi (dots per inch)
If I wanted to it professionally printed, I wanted a resolution of 300dpi, and if I wanted a rough print version for
my home/business printer then I would probably be OK with 150dpi.
Now I can export from iPhoto as JPEG and I am no longer given the resolution options (72 or 150 or 300dpi etc.)
but rather the options for JPEG Quality ARE: Maximimum, High, Medium and Low [unhelpfully referred to as "Smallest size" what else would it be?]
Whatever choice I make appears to make no difference to the visual quality of the picture on screen, but makes a heck of a
difference to the file size AND gives me NO help on what the resolution of the resulting picture is.
    0. This would lead me to believe that I should choose Low for ALL web or computer screen uses - as this will result in the
smallest possible file size - which in turn will reduce loading speeds for websites. Is this correct?
Unhelpfully, the iphoto Manual does not explain what these Quality Options mean and therefore I have no idea why or when I should
    choose one over another.
    1. Can someone out there who really knows their stuff, demystify this for me ?
What do these Quality Options mean, what dpi is assigned to each, and why and when should I coose one over another?
    Maximimum
    High
    Medium
    Low
    JPEG Size:
This is confusing. If I know that for a particular use I need a particular size photograph (height vs width), I edit it in
iPhoto to the height/width that I need. For example, in the gallery I am using in Rapid Weaver, the designer suggests
a good size for  one particular design's revolving banner photos is 980 wide by 656 high - and I am assuming that these are pixel dimensions.
My photos from various sources are inevitably greater than this - and in some cases I might want to re-frame a portrait
photo into a landscape shape. To do this I use the Edit and Crop facility in iPhoto. And I make sure that the photo is edited to
    the dimensions I want first.
iPhoto retains the full size photo in it's library, and I can always get it back after cropping if I wish
(by duplicating and reverting to origonal). However once cropped, it helpfully appears to EXPORT the cropped size.
The EXPORT function allows me to chose a JPEG's Size (by which I assume it means pixel width vs height)
    2. Can someone tell me the exact effect/meaning of choosing any one of the following - in other words what do these mean or
put another way what pixel size am I choosing for:
    Small
    Medium
    Large
    Full Size
    3. And am I choosing just the Height size or the Width size and what happens to the other dimension? And how does it
decide? And what are the Heigh or Width sizes allocated to these rather odd choices (Small, Medium, Large, Full Size.)
    4. I am assuming that Small must equal a specific Width for a landscape photo, and in that case does it keep the height as it was, or does it constrain the proportions on the basis of the Width it has allocated to Small?
There is a fifth option, but again, it is unclear as to what exactly it does, and I would like help here too! (Sorry, but this is driving me demented!)
    Custom
Within Custom, I have three choices:
    Width
    Height
    Dimensions
    5. What happens to the Height if I define the Width option? Or similiarly, what happens to the Width if I define the Height option?
    6. What on earth does Dimensions mean when it only gives me one dimension to define?
Will it try and make a portrait picture square for example? Is it editing here?
Sorry this is so long, but I would really like to NAIL this - and I suspect I am not the only one!
All I am trying to do is to create the optimized output for the purpose I intend to use a picture for - really simple  - or is it?
Thanks to anyone who can have a go at this..... Michael

OK I've got it! - Thanks a thousand - and for anyone who wants a Quick Summary, here it is:
    1. Cropping a photo in iPhoto sets the Aspect Ratio
Despite what it appears to do, cropping a photo in iPhoto does not affect the photos’s height or width. It does affect it’s Aspect Ratio - or shape (for example 6 x 4 ), and what is visible within that shape - but not the width or height. Note the absence of inches or cm or meters there. It also affects the content of the picture - or rather which area of the picture is visible (which is the ‘cropped’ area).
So it is OK to Crop the photo in iPhoto, but this should not be confused with the idea that you are cutting the photo into a specific dimension (width or height) - to do that you need the Export facility in iPhoto where you choose a JPEGs Size.
    2. JPEG Size
Once the Aspect Ratio is determined (the shape) of the visible area of the picture - the Custom Size Option in the Export Facility can be used to select either the Width or the Height. Obviously if you chose the width, then that measurement will pre-determine the height as iPhoto will calculate the height needed to retain the Aspect Ratio you have set when you cropped it.
If you don’t crop, it will calculate based on the initial Aspect Ratio (shape) of the original photo.
Full Size is exactly that: the image at the dimensions imported from the camera. The others allow you to scale the image. Each reduces the size by about 33% or thereabouts.
Full Size = 100% of the Imported from the camera Dimensions
Large = 66% of the imported Dimensions
Medium =  44% of the imported Dimensions
Small = 29% of the imported Dimensions
As a rule of thumb a 3000 x 2000 (approx) image will reduce to 640 x 480 with the Medium setting
Thumbnails can be generated using the Export and then Web Page function, rather than the File Export function.
Otherwise, you can use the Custom setting  to specify an Exact width or an Exact height (and of course the Aspect Ratio will determine the other dimension NOT specified.)
    3. JPEG Quality
JPEG Quality is setting the compression of the file which will affect the file size (not the picture Dimensions or the Aspect Ratio), but it will also affect the Quality of the visual image. So here you are seeking to minimise the file size while not losing acceptable visual quality.
Which you choose depends on what you're using the image for... Web site? Start at Low and work from there, if the quality is poor or visually unacceptable, choose a higher quality.
If you are Archiving go for max. The rest - trial and error...

  • Newbie confusion over launching VBox Guest Services.

    Hi all,
This is my first time of installing Arch Linux  as a guest using Virtual Box on a Mac. I have followed the instructions set out in the Wiki section for VBox.
The following excerpt below had me a confused for a while.
All these features can be enabled indepently and manually with their dedicated flags.
    # VBoxClient --clipboard --draganddrop --seamless --display --checkhostversion
But VirtualBox provides a currently undocumented feature, a Bash script VBoxClient-all which enables all these features automatically and checks if a X11 server is really running before enabling some of them.
    # VBoxClient-all
To start that script automatically when system starts run the following command as root (or sudo):
    # systemctl enable vboxservice
Am I correct in thinking that in order to get clipboard, full screen etc... I still have to use the VBoxClient -all command rather than the systemctl enable vboxservice?
I order to get the guest features to work I use the VBoxClient-all script in my autostart file.
If I run ps -ef | grep -i vbox without the autostart script i see the following below
    root 184 1 0 14:44 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/VBoxService -f
and the clipboard features etc do not work.
    Have I misunderstood something?
    Thanks

  • Etc/hosts confusion

    hi everybody
i have a general question regarding entries in hosts file.
    OS : OEL 5
during the installation lets say if i assign a name (test > as localhost)
and (db > as localdomain) and i do not assign any static ip to it.
then the entries in my hosts file be like this
    127.0.0.1 test.db test
    right ???
will it cause any problem in hosting the software ??
or if i assign a static ip but dont give any DNS ips etc ???
will that cause any problem in hosting ???
i am doing it for my practice purposes.
so what the best option in that scenario ???

Regards !IP 127.0.0.1 is universally understood to be 'localhost'. DO NOT CHANGE THAT!
What you want to ADD TO your /etc/hosts is a line with the assigned static ip address of the server:
    # @(#)B11.23_LRhosts $Revision: 1.9.214.1 $ $Date: 96/10/08 13:20:01 $
    # The form for each entry is:
    # <internet address>   <official hostname> <aliases>
    # For example:
    # 192.1.2.34   hpfcrm   loghost
    # See the hosts(4) manual page for more information.
    # Note: The entries cannot be preceded by a space.
    #   The format described in this file is the correct format.
    #       The original Berkeley manual page contains an error in

  • Newbie - confused about clips and "Unrendered"

Hello - Sorry for the newbie-ness. Just got FCE, watched the tutorials... Imported a .mov file, have edited the clip a bit and I have two clips in the timeline using "superimpose" for the second one, so that I could view both happening simultaneously. But when I try to play them back to view them I'm not seeing them, though I hear the audio of both clips.AND, when I press play the far right window says "unrendered," but when I pause I see the clip in the far right window. So, what am I doing wrong? Thank you very much.
    Nick

Nothing. Superimpose puts one clip on top of the other. It does not adjust the transparency or alter the clip in any way to see the underlying image. If you want to do that you can do it by opening the clip from the timeline into the viewer and in the motion tab adjusting opacity, scale, crop, whatever.
The material is unrendered because it probably does not match the sequence settings. Check item properties for both the sequence and the clips and make sure they match in every respect.

  • Newbie confused

I'm a newbie and I'm trying to build my own website as I learn Adobe Classroom in a book for CS5.5 (I do have the program for CS6 but not the book update on it—up to this point I have avoided CS6)
    The problem
I want to show a portfolio of work and understanding Widget exchange no longer functions I have purchased Lightbox advance but I don't know how to access it as I'm not using the Creative Cloud, nor can I find CSS Menu tools.
I can open my website pages in CS6 (mine is a simple site of only 4 pages) and it seems to work, so if needs be progress it in that. My main problem is adding the light box of images
Please help as I feel I'm going no where with this.
    Many thanks,

  • Newbie Confusion

I am designing a report based on a table that has two location ID's in it: receipt and delivery. If need both of these fields converted to Location name based on a amtch to a REF_LOCATION table. I can get one to work (citing either of th two codes), but never both of them. Is there a trick for this?
Also, can someone recommend a good book for learning Crystal Reports XI?

    Hi,
I suspect you have the REF_LOCATION table in your report once.  Add it into your report a second time.  Link receipt to the first REF_LOCATION and delivery to the second REF_LOCATION.
That should do it for you.
    Good luck,

  • MAX newbie confused on data configuration

I'm trying to get a handle on an existing application that was written before I was hired.
I have a test Fieldpoint rig setup about the same as the production unit. I am able to communicate with the Fieldpoint in MAX and query it with LabWindows/CVI.
If I go into MAX and change the data configuration range from 0 to 20 volts to -120 volts to 120 volts, the reading in MAX doesn't change. Also, the value I read in LabWindows/CVI doesn't change either. I am hitting the Apply button.
So is this range adjustment used anywhere, or is it just for documentation?
(Attached is a screen capture of the value I am changing)

Is your analog input within the ranges that you are defining?  Are you changing the analog input between configuration changes?  Let's say you are putting in 10V,  it's within range of 0--20V.  It's also within range of 0-120V.  So you should be able to read the value with either range.  Of course with the larger range, you will have a little worse accuracy and/or resolution.  If you were trying to read 30V, then you wouldn't be able to read it at all with the 0-20V range, but would be able to read it with the 0-120V range.

  • Newbie confused about setting up E3200

Bought E3200 today. Guy in store told me not to use install CD. He said just hook it up and my computer will direct me on what to do. I would like to know if he is right. Why would I not use the CD? I know almost nothing about routers and want the installation to go well. They fellow said that the install CD would just mess me up. I do know how the router should be wired up I just don't know anything about the rest of it. Need the true skinny!

Well if you know how to make the physical connectivity between modem, router and computer then you can install the CD for the router E3200 with any problem. Basically the CD consist of Cisco Connect software which comes with the Linksys Wireless-N (E-Series) Routers and lets you manage your network easier. For the setup process, you need to perform the following:
    i. Verify that there is an active Internet connection between the computer and modem
ii. Set up the router using Cisco Connect

In here, we have an instance of SCCM 2012 setup. This instance is used to build packages, images, testing, validations, modifications etc. as well as for production roll outs. The primary issues we have with this is there is no separation between test and
prod, also, there are several packages, task sequences etc causing confusion in determining which is a test package and which is prod.
Setting up a test domain does not seem to be a viable option for us, at least for now.
So, my question is, can we have another instance of SCCM in the same domain that we can restrict only for the sake of testing & validations and then use the original one to deploy the tested (gold) packets.
Just a thought!! Does it make sense? Any challenges that we could face?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Yes you can no problem, you should avoid having Boundary / Boundary Groups used for Site Assignment that overlap and make sure that PXE request to the test/dev environment is restricted to one test subnet to avoid co-existance issues.

  • RAW image and preview dramatically different

I'm using Aperture 2.1 and am recently finding myself extremely unsatisfied with the rendering of my RAW images created with my Nikon D50.
I am shooting in just RAW (NEF) and sRGB, and am exposing for what I am seeing on the back of my camera. At times I use manual, and others I use the Program setting with a -1.3 exposure compensation since the camera leans too bright; I seem to recall everything exposing correctly until recently. But my memory is shoddy when it comes to how things previously appeared.
The preview before importing shows much the same image that I intended (exposure-wise), as does the quick preview for a second or so during the import process. Shortly after, my pictures all become dull and dark, lacking color and appearing about 2 stops underexposed.
I love photography, but am personally baffled by the issue of color profiles, RAW images JPEG previews, and all that jazz. Nothing seems to explain these adequately, which is why I'm reaching out to those more knowledgeable than me. I am unsure if it's my camera, Aperture, color spaces, or just settings within Aperture or my camera.
Once again, I want to say this is a recent problem, but it may just be that I only noticed recently.

I have exposed to the image on the LCD before and produced wonderful results. Or, at the very least, results that didn't drive me to post on a discussion board.
    As per your questions:
--I use 4 different methods to determine how I am exposing my image. In Manual, I use the TTL metering chart in the viewfinder (usually exposing -0.7 to -1.3 so as to compensate for the tendency for the camera's meter to overexpose), the resulting image on the LCD, the histogram, and the in-camera highlights indicator (since, once again, it has a tendency to try and overexpose an image). In Priority modes, I use the camera's exposure compensation setting to set the compensation to -0.7 or -0.1. The resulting JPEG that I see in the pre-import thumbnails and the brief seconds during import are exactly the exposure I want, but when Aperture finishes importing, it's entirely too underexposed. And it's not just that-- the color seems to be worse than it would if it were just simple underexposure... it all feels grey.
-- I use matrix metering most of the time, with spot metering in the rare instance that requires more precise measurement than just tweaking the aperture or shutter up or down a stop or so. Snow or water pictures are a prime example.
Just so we're clear, I know how to use a camera. I know how to expose properly, and in the past year with my camera, I feel I've figured out its quirks. It takes a lot to drive me to discussion boards, as I usually figure out problems myself. But, since the lingo and strange things of digital photography (Color Space, EXIF data, RAW conversion engines, etc.) confuses me sometimes, I am looking for more human help. I haven't had this problem (or this dramatic of a problem) in the past.
The RAW images outside of the last couple of months seem fine (maybe having something to do with the fact that I upgraded to 2.1 from the 1.0 software about 6 months ago and am finally getting back to photography during my summer break). And the JPEGs that I am apparently exposing for are fine as well. It's just after Aperture imports the RAW file that I am having these problems.
Like I said, I want to continue to use RAW. I want it to work like I thought it was working in the past (that is, without major exposure headaches). But I want the image that I thought I was getting. So how do I make Aperture see the same (or nearly the same) image that I am seeing in the JPEG thumbnail? The difference is just too dramatic to pass it off as quirks and be okay with that. And no, at least as the photography part goes, I do not think it's a short between the floor and the camera.

  • Address Book contact preview shows a different date than what is input in the birthday field.

When opening the address book and clicking on an entry, the preview pane at the bottom shows a different date than the date that is entered in the birthday field. It shows the day before the actual date that is entered. See images below:
    Thanks!

Thunderbird numbering is based on the Extended Support Releases, which are provided every seven "regular" cycles (thus after 7 6-week cycles = every 42 weeks) to minimize fallout from new features hitting the releases to frequently. Initially, those release were issued to organizations only which require some kind of internal review or certification of software prior to deployment.
Currently we are in the "37.0" cycle and 38 beta 1 has just been released (but doesn't have the fix yet). Meaning, the next release after 31.6.0 won't be 31.7.0 but 38.0 already, followed by 38.1.0 up to 38.6.0, the continuing with 45.0, etc.
Confusing, yes, but that's what they came up with.

  • Can't delete, move, or send email

Problem description: cannot delete messages using delete button, nor move messages to folders, nor send messages. No error codes or statements.
Background: I have been a long-time user of TB. Two years ago, I began to use "Work Offline" since I have to work aboard ships at sea. In a single day, I work offline then go online for a few minutes to send emails, thus reducing my online time (which I must pay for). As time has passed, my TB has gotten slower, and now I have the problem above. I have had checked "keep messages on my computer." My profile shows folder sizes of 22 MB (Comcast IMAP inbox), 26MB (Comcast IMAP Sent), 50 MB (university g-mail Sent folder), etc.
Confusingly, this same problem has happened to my wife at the same time. She accompanies me on trips at sea. Her PC: TB 24.3.0, Windows 7, alternating Work Offline and Work Online with a single IMAP email account from Comcast.
My own troubleshooting: I have searched the Internet for solutions. I have taken these steps, with none producing problem correction:
    1. Exit and restart TB.
    2. Deleted all .msf files in folders and sub-folders. Restarted TB.
    3. Automatically compact all folders when it saves 1 MB.
    4. Remove the All Mail folder from the list of synchronized folders, unsubscribe it, exit, and then delete both "All Mail." and "All Mail.msf".
    5. Ran TB in Safe Mode with Add-ons disabled.
    6. Disk Defragmenter run. No defrag required.
    7. There are no places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wa directories in my profile.
    8. There are no xul.mfl files in my profile.
    9. I have set my anti-virus (Microsoft Security Essentials) to not scan my TB folder.
    10. My inboxes have less than 25 emails. I regularly delete my Junk folder (after 10 days) and I delete emails older than 180 days.
    11. I am using less than one-third of my hard drive.
    12. I have uninstalled TB and installed a number of older versions, e.g. 17 and 24.0.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

One obvious one missing from the list. Try windows safe mode with networking.
One other thing. Clear the Temp folder in windows.
