DMX interface and software?

I'm looking for an interface and software to control my bands lighting on stage.
I would like this to be for a mac, hence why im on the mac forums.
Im looking for sometype of USB interface for the DMX wires (two inputs if possible) and software that allows me to control it visual and through sliders/controls/settings.
Thanks
~RSully

There was a product called DMXIS (DMXIS.com) that was mentioned by people on here before. It was in beta last Dec and still shows beta as of April '08. Not sure if it is being actively developed any more. It was an AU plug in. (If anyone knows anything more of this product, I would love to hear about it.)

  • HARDWARE interfacing and software routines

    Hello there,
    I am interested in finding out a really basic tutorial/note which will allow me to work with the basic communication protocols like SPI , RS 232, etherner, USB, etc. I am looking for tutorial with BOTH HARDWARE interfacing  and software routines.
    Multiple websites will be ok for me.
    I have searched wikipedia and lot of power point presentations but was not successful in landing up with a COMPLETE tutorial which explains the hardware interfacing connections and software.
    If you guys can suggest an evaluation kit where i can pracice the above interfacing and software routine..... by all means do let me know.
    Looking forward to your reply.

    Technically you can do everything you are talking about for free provided you have the internet tool kit installed (Full Development Suite) and depending on what level of detail you plan on going into.
    If you want to play with RS232 you can start with just taking the existing Labview example, "Basic Serial Write and Read.vi" under Labview Help -> Find Examples.  You can find a serial cable and connect it to your Comm port.  On the other end of the Comm port you can insert a small wire to short pin 2 to pin 3 (TX to RX).  You will then be able to send and recieve data on the same vi.  I would look at wikipedia to learn more:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RS-232
    If you have the internet tool kit install then you can do all kinds of stuff with just a regular internet connection.  For example any place where you can Telnet you could test using the "Telnet Line Client.vi" provided by Labview.  Again I would start by consulting wikipedia if you have questions:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telnet
    If you are trying to do everything down to the hardware level then this is a little more involved.  Again break your post into smaller pieces and repost on the Labview forum and you will have better luck getting detailed responses.
    You should not have to spend much money to play around.  You can build a lot of this stuff yourself or you can purchase very cheep if you shop around.  For example you can implement SPI using a parallel port but you need to know what your target SPI interface will be.  Regards, SS

  • Nokia's user interface and software A terrible e...

    (hope this is in the right section, here goes)
    I got my E63 about a month ago. I thought it only fair to list my grievances with the phone so far, because I am really close to selling it and buying something else, and I think Nokia deserves to know the reasons why, and will hopefully improve in the future.
    I will start off with what I love about the phone, because I do in fact, really like it. The slim size, excellent keyboard, great connectivity like 3G and Wi-fi, and the reasonable battery life, make it a great phone, but its in the user interface, and actual usage of the phone, where things really start to fall flat.
    The user interface is very disorganized and difficult.
    Why is everything so hard to find and use? For example, if I want to change the applications that appear on my home screen, I need to navigate the following directory tree:
    Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalisation > Mode Settings > Home Screen Applications > Application Shortcuts > Shortcut 1
    and then, when I finally get to the list, the items arent even in any order!
    You must be joking, what a horrible menu! Its insane. As a user, I feel like its a terrible experience.
    But thats not all. Why are there 2 notes applications on my phone? There's notes, and active notes. Why does Nokia OVI store exist twice, once in the main menu, and once under installations? Why do I have Contacts, and OVI contacts on my phone? Why can't my phone have just one app that works well, instead of 2 that differ slightly.
    Why is email setup in the installations menu? Why isn't it under email, where mailboxes get set up? Its just sitting there cluttering up Installations, when its something you only use once or twice.
    Not to mention the fact that the configuration settings are all over the place, i.e. there is an Email Key setting in Menu > Tools > Settings > General. Its all on its own, not near anything. Why isn't it in the same menu where the other shortcut keys get set? Or even in the email app settings?
    I am not naive, I know that the E63 is on the cheaper end of the scale, so I can't expect it to be the fastest phone in the world, but scrolling through my email in HTML mode is so horribly slow, and the view tends to jump from left to right on some emails, I hardly even use the phone to check my email anymore, which is sad because that is the reason I chose the E63.( for the nice keypad and email syncing)
    These are just SOME of the things that I have noticed. So please Nokia, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Spend some of your R&D money on user interface and user experience!
    If there is anything you take away from this letter, let it be this:
    Doing anything on the phone just feels like hard work, it makes me not want to use the phone.
    Your phones should be simple and easy to use, even without the mass of Help files that appear in a lot of the menus.
    I know, some people may say that if I want a better experience, I should be willing to buy a more expensive phone. Well, I can say that if I do spend more money on a phone, the chance is very slim that it will be a Nokia.
    Really, I am not being nasty, just trying to be honest. I know that Nokia is run by human beings like myself, so I tried to be polite, and I dont intend to hurt anyones feelings.
    I am quite willing to answer any questions you may have. Its a bit of a pipe dream, but I would love to see Nokia release an entirely new version of the phone software, with everything re-organized and re-done. The sad truth is that will probably never happen, and I will end up swopping my E63 for something that is easy and pleasant to use.
    So please, let me know if there is anything I can do to change the situation, or help you guys in making this better for everyone.

    "If your not used to symbian you'll learn it quick enough, compared to android it's childsplay."
    On the contrary, Ive been using Nokia phones for the last 8 years, and for the last 2 years Nokia exclusively, and the UI has just got worse.
    The fact that "you'll learn it" is of no comfort. Why should I have to spend hours learning how to use a cellphone? Whenever I want to do something I havent done before, I have to spend time digging through obscure menu options. That is absurd.
    "What phone do you have in mind to replace the E63,  that would help us users alot more then telling us what is wrong with your phone.  Although over all I like my e63."
    I don't have any specific phone in mind, Im just going to ask and look around until I find something with an operating system that is organised in a logical manner, and that allows me to access and read my email quickly and easily.
    I put this here hoping that other users would come forward with UI related things that they were unhappy about,  and then Nokia would take notice. I could easily have just gone out and changed phones, but I chose to do something different.

  • Audio interface and software for my 13" MBA?

    I just bought a new Macbook Air, the $999 13" model, and installed OSX Mavericks
    I'm looking to purchase a compatible audio interface and recording/editing software to use with my XLR microphone.
    Any pointers? I just don't want to spend $500 and get home and have it not work!

    I'm quite impressed by Apogee Duet. 2-channel & no MIDI (still does provide some control function with its single knob) which sounds like it suits what you're looking for. Very simple & elegant design, the sound quality is supreme considering its cost.
    Near field monitor of my choice is KRK V8's. Nice natural sounding set of monitors. In comparison to competitors at the price range, these sets 'breathe' & provide a bit more air in sound production without exaggerating any particular freq.
    When it comes down to choosing monitor speakers, go to a local pro audio shop & try out a bunch so you can compare. Just remember to bring test CD that you know well what it should sound like.
    Good luck!

  • What is the difference between Component,Server,Tool and Software?

    HI,
    What is the difference between Component,Server,Tool and Software?
    SHABEER

    Hi
    Every individual part that constitutes in making an SAP System is called a COMPONENT.e.g DB instance, Java CI, ABAP CI etc
    SERVER is the actual composition of different components of SAP.e.g. a database alongwith can instance would constitue an application server.
    TOOLS are the products from different organisations (SAP or Non SAP) that can be used for different functionalities like keeping a check on jobs, monitoring of the system , e.g Tivoli
    SOFTWARES are a kind of tool that help you to bring up results from the system in a user acceptable format. These are utilities that act as interfaces between the user and the system.

  • Product and Software component in SLD

    Hi,
    What is the basic concept of product and Software component.I have few questions.
    If our company is going for Sap implementation of ISmedia
    and XI as middleware for interfacing with other systems then what do we need to do for product and SWC.
    Do we need to create a third party product and SWC for this project in sld?
    We can create differnt Software component under the existing Product of SAP ISM
    What are the best practices
    Thanks,

  • Track public classes, interfaces and methods by ID

    Hi All,
    I'm wondering whether there is a tool to assign a unique ID to classes, interfaces and methods (eg. within Javadoc) and track these IDs.
    The reason I'd need such a feature is that I'd like to do requirements tracking in an easy but complete way. I have a document containing functional specifications (with IDs) and on the other side there is the source code; where the javadoc of the public methods and classes is my software specification. What I now want to do is make a link between the IDs in the functional spec to the IDs in the sofware spec (ie. the source code).
    Does anybody know of such a tool (commercial or not)?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    I'm a bit confused as to whether or not I understand you correctly. Please tell me if the following pseudocode is somewhat like the solution you are looking for:
    class MethodFunctionality {
       private Class methodClass;
       private String methodSignature;
       private List methodFunctions;
        *   Returns true if the method is used for the specified
        *   requirement, false otherwise.
       public boolean fulfills(int requirementId) {
          if methodFunctions.contains(requirementId)
             return true;
          else
             return false;
       public String getMethodSignature() {
          return this.methodSingature;
       public Class getMethodClass() {
          return this.methodClass;
        *   Returns an array with IDs of each functional
        *   requirement covered by the method.
       public int[] getCoverage() {
          return this.methodFunctions;
    class ClassFunctionality {
       private Map methodDetails;
       private List classFunctions;
       public MethodFunctionality getMethodDetails(String methodSignature) {
          return (MethodFunctionality) this.methodDetails.get(methodSignature);
        *   Returns true if the class is used for the specified
        *   requirement, false otherwise.
       public boolean fulfills(int requirementId) {
          if classFunctions.contains(requirementId)
             return true;
          else
             return false;
        *   Returns an array with IDs of each functional
        *   requirement covered by the class.
       public int[] getCoverage() {
          return this.classFunctions;
    }Mapping classes and methods to functionality like this would both allow you to query each class and method for all the functional requirements they claim to cover and would allow you to collect all classes and methods involved for a particular functional requirement.

  • Help with M-Audio interface and GB

    First time with any kind of audio interface and GB. I just got a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB and am a little confused by the monitor settings. Been to the web site and read the manual and they said turn the monitoring off in garageband so I don't hear double monitoring. My question is, is it possible to record and hear the effect I have chosen as well. With monitor off all I can hear is the dry signal.I never had to worry about this before since I was going directly into the Mac, no interface. Is there a FAQ or web site that can help a newb like me with these most basic questions?

    Sounds like good advice Christoph. I have been only recording bass thus far, very few effects and no latency yet. I was puzzled by the M-Audio manual that says to turn off the software monitor but on the M-Audio web site forum an expert says to turn on the monitoring in garageband. This will all makes sense to me soon I hope.

  • Naming conventions/hierarchies for products and software components

    Hi,
    Can someone please advise what they have found works well for naming products and software components and recommended hierarchies?
    Following the SAP model it seems to make sense to have a custom product for each SAP product when we are developing custom interfaces for the related system, e.g. ZPRODMYCOMPDEVS_R3, ZMYCOMPDEVS_CRM etc.
    Beneath this level as similar convention could be used for the software component, e.g. ZSWCMYCOMPDEVS_CRM or if it is a modular SAP system like R/3 perhaps a grouping per key application area? (e.g. HR, Finance, Logistics etc)
    I know it's not compulsory to start these with 'Z' but it would help group custom developments.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • I want to buy surveillance cameras and software that are compatible with Mtn Lion, what do you suggest?

    I want to buy surveillance cameras and software that are compatible with Mtn Lion, what do you suggest?

    You do have the ability to create good user interfaces with LabVIEW.
    The main problem is what do you, or your customer consider a good user
    interface.
    The first thing I would suggest is to start using the "Dialog Control"
    controls for your front panel. This set of controls pick up their style
    from the operating system, so they will match the rest of the system
    applicaitons.
    Another thing is limit the use of color on the front panel. One persons
    idea of a nice shade of blue can be another person eyesore. Instead,
    use the decorations for grouping of controls.
    I would stay away from ActiveX. It's interface is quirky at best and there is a lot of overhead involved.
    Just to show it's possible, the attached images are screen shots of
    user interfaces I've designed with LabVIEW. The first two use the
    Dialog Controls, and the third uses standard controls and color at the
    customers request.

  • Audio Interface and Converter HardWare for my future Logic

    Hello, I'm French.
    I will buy a logic studio 9 software + a mac pro computer
    But i don't really know what Audio Interface and Converter HardWare take?
    I'm look for Digidesign + HD Cards or Apogee System or RME, MOTU
    After I will buy an SSL mixage table for my studio (in a long time^^)
    Sorry for the bad english :S

    Logic and Protools don't have exactly the same concept when it comes to audio hardware. But if you want Apogee hardware to use with Logic, then there are options for either PCI-based or FireWire. Go and look at the Apogee site:
    http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/symphony-system.php
    or

  • What interface and monitors are you using?

    I need to buy a new interface and monitors. I'm interested in the Native Inst. Audio Kontrol 1, the Line 6 Toneport UX2, and the Emu 0404 USB 2.0. I'll probably go with the Blue Sky Media Desk monitors.

    hey there NIKKO,
    i use a MOTU 828 MKII w/ a MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV & Alesis M1 MK2 Active monitors. it's not all about the hardware/software.... check out Auralex & Auralex University. a great site w/ info on room accoustics & how they can afffect your recordings & mixes. see this link -http://www.auralex.com/
    it's about making music & having a good time doing it. & it is a good time on a Mac!!! good luck w/ whatever you get.

  • Please rework the ZEN SDHC functionality with a firmware and software upda

    ZEN owners would be very appreciati've if you guys over there at creative would rework the ZEN's SDHC functionality. It would be nice if the SDHC media was displayed in the same gorgeous user interface that the internal memory boasts. One way to accomplish this would be to integrate the SDHC media into the main library. But that would probably require a lot of coding i suppose. Another possibility would be if the SDHC cards file structure and interface to the player was formatted just like its internal counterpart. that way you could access the SDHC media using the same user interface as the internals, and it probably wouldn't be so much work to implement through firmware and software updates.
    just some thoughts,
    dave

    I'm almost convinced they won't do it, they would have already told us that they are working on this. Instead of that Creative says nothing.
    Some of us think that they do not integrade the SD crad in Zen library, because they will loose money. They believe that if Creative does that, then nobody will buy the 6 or 32 Gb versions, because everybody will buy the chepaer one and pout a high capacity card in it, which will be cheaper.
    I do not believe this is correct. Everybody buys somethnig based on his needs. The biggest card available right know I thnik is 6Gb. My music is,let's say, 25GB. I need a 6Gb card plus 9GB of internal memory. The 8GB version won't do for me, so I have to buy the 6Gb version. Creative doesn't loose money. I really can't understand why they don't do it.
    I'm fed up waiting for creative to do something about it.Message Edited by Voodooman on 2-6-200704:7 AM

  • What is the best setup (cords, hardware and software) for converting tape cassettes to mp3 using iMac?

    I have a huge collection of tape cassettes that I want in my iTunes library.  I want to know what the best cords, hardware (type of Tape cassette player/recorder) and software to use.

    It depends on what kind of inputs your Mac has:
    If your iMac is a 2012 or older model it probably has an audio line input, in which case you can directly connect your tape deck outputs to your iMac.  Generally this requires a cable with 2x RCA male connectors on one end and 1x 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo male connector on the other end.
    If you have a more recent iMac that does not have a line input you will need to get a USB audio interface like a Focusrite Forte, but in these cases you will need to pay attention to the kind of cable inputs the USB device has.
    In both cases you will need recording software.  There are many choices.  I have used Sound Studio with great success for tapes, vinyl and live recordings.  (Note: if you are using a USB audio interface it may come with its own recording software.)
    Pay attention to whether or not your tapes were recorded with or without Dolby B or C noise reduction; and also whether or not your tape deck supports none, Dolby B or Dolby C - getting each tape matched with your deck settings makes a big difference in the results.  And depending on how quality conscious you are you may also want or need some noise reduction software, in which case I suggest looking at Wave Arts MR Noise, SoundSoap or Audacity.
    You might also consider just purchasing selected CDs instead of investing in all the work required to set up, record, edit & clean up recordings from some of your old tapes.

  • What is the difference between, Configuration Components and Software Comp?

    Experts,
    Can somebody tell me, What is the difference between, Configuration Components and Software Components?

    Hi,
    Configuration Objects:
    You use configuration objects to help you to structure and organize your configuration data in the Integration Directory
    You can group configuration objects by using configuration scenarios.
    The following configuration objects exist:
    1) Collaboration profile objects
        -Communication Party
       -Service
       -Communication Channel
    2)  Logical routing objects
      - Receiver determination
      - Interface determination
    3)  Collaboration agreement objects
       -   Sender Agreement
       -  Receiver Agreement
