DMZ MODE

For the first time since I started by current internet phone service (VOIPo), I am experiencing issues with the RTP audio. The incoming call goes through but after responding to the incoming call, there is no audio going to the caller and simultaneously the caller only hears continued ringing until directed to voicemail.  No issues with outgoing calls.  VOIPo support suggested placing their Linksys PAP2T adapter in true DMZ mode behind the router.    Would appreciate any assistance in how I should go about programming the ActionTec router to do so.  Thanks in advance.

#1 In the ActionTech go to Advanced -> IP Address Distribution.
#2 What is the DHCP Range?
#3 In the ActionTech go to Firewall or to Security. In there, you will see the DMZ control..
#4 What is the model, of the Linksys?

  • WRT54GS V4.0 Laptop Connects But can't access internet unless I am in DMZ mode.

This is recent. I've changed no settings or otherwise done anything to block access, but I've had this problem 2 times now, and I'm beginning to think the router is crapping out on me.
Here's why I know it is not the laptop Wifi that is the problem... When I am connected to the router, I CAN access the router administration pages, but I can't access anything on the internet itself unless the modem is in DMZ mode(I have to put it into DMZ mode and then power cycle the router). If the modem is in DMZ mode, I have no problems.
This only happens with the Wireless connection. On my desktop I have no such problems either way.
I have been using this router since January of this year and have not had any issues until recently when I would occasionally have to reset the laptop's connection to this router, and now this issue.
Note: after it happened the first time, I took my laptop over to the in-laws house and I had no issues for the entire day that I was using the laptop. I come back here to my router and start having issues again.
P.S. I use Ethereal (wireless security monitor) to determine what channels others are using within my range and have set mine to different channels that do not conflict with others, but still no change.

Hi.. What are the DNS serves that are assign to your laptop when you have this issue? Are they public or private? Are you able to ping to any of these DNS server?
You should have public DNS server assign to your laptop. and you should be able to ping to that DNS server to make sure that you have internet connection. If you dont have public dns server, try to ping to 4.2.2.2 (a very common dns server) if you are able to ping to this, then assign this dns to your laptop. you should be online.
Also try to upgrade the firmware on the router.

  • E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

I've DMZ'd my computer using the the E1200's Web Browser Config screen (192.168.1.1) yet when I try to test the ports not a single one is open.
I've used this test to see if they were open:
    http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/p2p/
And almost none of them were. Is there any issue that could be causing this?
Also when I try to open a single port the site says it times out.
Opening single ports didn't help either.
I've also tried to DMZ via the IP and the MAC address of my PC and still no luck.

As you can see the IP address on the internet port of the E1200 is not a public one. It's not the one you see on whatismyip.com or similar.
Your "modem" is also a router. The public IP address is on that modem. Any incoming connection from the internet ends at the modem. Thus, any port forwarding on the E1200 is fully ineffective as you don't have any matching port forwarding on your modem.
Best solution: set your modem into "bridge" mode to turn it into a real modem. In bridge mode you have to configure the E1200 for your internet connection (DHCP or PPPoE depending on your ISP). Then the E1200 gets the public IP address and port forwarding should work.

  • RV082 DMZ Configuration Question - Point to Point

    Hello,
We have 2 offices in different countries both using the RV082 router.  Currently both offices have an internet connection on WAN1 and that is working fine.
We are adding a Point to Point circuit between the two offices, and my question is on the RV082 configuration on each side.
I was going to configure WAN2 in DMZ mode on each router, then connect the point to point circuit to the WAN2 port.  On the China side, the DMZ IP will have to be a private address (192.168.177.1), while the DMZ port on the San Diego side will be a public IP.
We need internal computers to be able to go to the internet normally through WAN1, but also go through WAN2 if they are trying to reach the other network.  I will be adding routes on each RV082 for this.
Is there anything wrong with this configuration?  Do I need to change the routers from Gateway to Router mode?  Does it matter if the DMZ WAN2 port has a private IP address?
Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!
    Thank you in advance,
    Eric

Thanks Tom but that thread is not exactly what I was looking for.  Mainly I just want to know if the RV082 can act as a fully functioning router with the two WAN ports going to different networks.  So the LAN side would hit the router, look at the routing table and know which WAN port to go out of.  Using the DMZ seems like it will work, but I have never tried it so I wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone has done this before.

  • EA4500 router not opening ports even in DMZ

I have a EA4500 router running the following firmware: http://puu.sh/4l2Hb.jpg
I want to forward the following ports to host a game server: http://puu.sh/4l2Jb.png
In case you are wondering device ip# is correct and my computer has a static ip: http://puu.sh/4l2KQ.png (picture taken from the ipconfig command)
I made an exception for each and every one of these ports through windows firewall: http://puu.sh/4l2VU.png
more proof of the ports having an exception: http://puu.sh/4l2Xl.png
what happens when i check to see if the port is open: http://puu.sh/4l30O.png (ip adress hiden)
I have done everything correctly to my knowledge yet the ports are still not open. I have called my isp and they claim to not be stopping me from blocking ports. If it is the ISP's problem could someone explain to me exactly what I should ask them or tell them to do the next time I call their support line?
Also when I put the router in dMZ mode (a mode that i understand to open all my ports) my ports still remain closed which I really do not understand at all.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
The IP address that you removed from here http://puu.sh/4l30O.png , is it the same with the WAN IP (Internet IP Address) displayed on the router? If it's not, then you have a double NAT issue. But if you have the same IP and still not opening the ports, you may try to check it directly to the modem. There are some ISPs that blocks uncommon ports and you may have to contact them to open it.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • DMZ on 5031NV not working

I just installed U-verse internet at my house and was trying to setup my Linksys EA6500 with the UV 5031NV. I want to put the 5031 in bridge/ passthrough/ DMZ mode. I tried with no luck. Waht happens is that if my Linksys get an private IP from the 5031 is able to get internet connection. When I setup DMZ+ on the 5031 to my Linksys, this one lost connection. A couple of things to note: When I enable DMZ+ my linksys receive the public IP from the 5031, and DNS is 192.168.1.254 what I think is ok. I tested with other devices, like a laptop and a tablet, to set them to DMZ and the issue is the same, even it shows the pubic IP, there is no connection to internet. I guess something is wrong with the U-verse device, but any ideas should help Thanks

This from Computer Joe shuld work:
This is what I did to use an "internal" router. I set my "internal" router to use DHCP for the WAN address, plugged it's WAN port in to the RG, reboot the "internal" router, let the RG assign a local address to the "internal" router and then set that address to the DMZ in the RG's management interface. When I go to the "internal" router's management interface it shows as having the same WAN, gateway, and DNS addresses that the RG uses.
I set the "internal" router to assign addresses to "my" side of the network in a different IP range than what the RG uses (192.168.2.* instead of 192.168.1.*) but using the same subnet mask (255.255.255.0). My internet works fine with no interuptions and local network tasks (back ups, streaming, etc.) work as expected.
I can also still access the RG from "my" side of the network when I need to without having to change any network settings or swap any cables. Leave DHCP running on the RG. You do not need to disable the firewall in the RG as the DMZ will open a pinhole through it to the address you pick (your internal router). If you have existing wireless on your router that your satisfied with and want to keep, just make sure to turn off the wireless in the RG.
    Good luck

  • Is DMZ Like Connecting Directly to Modem?

I've asked this question 3-4 times over the years (not here), and I've never gotten a clear answer.
I have a program that I keep having trouble setting up and some people say it's a problem with the router. It's difficult for me to hookup directly to the modem so I'd like a mode where I just bypass the router. I think DMZ does this but I can't get anyone to say that flat out. So, my question is:
If I put the router in DMZ mode is it the same as being connected directly to the modem (that is, the same as if there was no router)?

I think it's similar, except the router is still doing NAT.
I don't think that is an issue except for possibly a small performance
hit - it really is pretty close to being as if you were hooked
    up to the modem.
All incoming packets that aren't otherwise accounted for
(such as explicit port forwarding) are passed to the DMZ.
Make sure you run a software firewall on the pc connected to the
DMZ, because it's wide open at this point.

  • SA 520w-k9 (DMZ help)

    Hi!
Im trying to set up DMZ so we can have a webserver running in that zone. I have followed the instruction from installation guide. We use the optional port and set it in the DMZ mode use the IP numbers from the guide 172.16.2.1 and have set up a temporary computer to test this. We dont get any contact with the router from the test computer? with this configs we have set up a rule in the firewall to allow all traffic from the DMZ zone to WAN and the DMZ has a external IP.
We use FW: 1.0.15 Dont know if thats the going to help to upgrade need some advice first.
I know there is a lot of experts out there that can give me some advice...
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
In  router you need to have reverse route for DMZ subnet towards the  firewall and in firewall just drop a default route towards the router  interface.
As  you have opened a any to any rule in firewall for both the inetrface  routing needs to be done just configure the above route and see are you  able to reach dmz subnet or not.
    Hope to Help !!

Thank you for your answers! I will try the above, Sorry about my poor understandning in Inglish is there any way you can explain the above in a more easy way? I have dowloaded the latest FW and will upgrade the router soon, but thats was not that easy when all the settings vanish and you must manualy reenter the settings

  • Airport extreme DMZ/ Default Host PS4

    Hey,
I'm trying to get rid of some lag putting my airport extreme to DMZ mode or Default Host as airport utility calls it. I have set up a static IP Address on my PS4 and enabled default host on my AE router for that IP, but I still get NAT Type 2 on my PS4 and quite a bit of lag. I have as a secondary measure opened up a whole lot of ports in port settings, sadly I cannot find a way to enable a range of ports, because a lot of guides online say that you open port say A, B and C and then D - G.
So my questions are, is there anything else you need to do than enable default host to get open NAT type? And is there a way to verify that it is indeed working?
Is there any way to open a range of ports in port settings?
Thanks for any assistance in advance!

Unfortunately, just placing your PS4 in a DMZ/Default Host, with an Apple router, will not guarantee that it will give you a less restrictive NAT type. Most game consoles manufacturers do not recommend Apple routers. I believe it is primarily because these routers do not support uPNP.
You can select a range of port by using a hyphen between the port values, as you have shown as "D - G." Note: However do not include any spaces between the hyphen.

  • Problem: An error occured during the uploading process.

Hello!  I've searched around but I am having difficulty finding a solution to this problem.
I am trying to upload videos through Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to YouTube, using the preset options in the share tab.  This worked previously without issue, but then one day I continually ran into an error stating "Sorry, an error occured during the uploading process.  Please try again later."  However, it eventually started working.  It is now a few weeks later, and I am having the very same issue.  I am unable to upload to YouTube or any other service through the Share tab.  Even loading the software itself, the opening splash screen is unable to grab my Adobe ID.  It never stops "Gathering User Info..."
    Steps I have tried:
Going to Edit -> Preferences -> Web Sharing and hitting the refresh button to update settings.
    Checked router settings.
Enabled DMZ on router and linked it to this specific computer.
Rebooted PC and router, and tried updating the Web Sharing settings multiple times.
I honestly do not believe it to be a router issue, especially since it is currently in DMZ mode and I have had absolutely no trouble with any other software.  This has continued to baffle me though, and finding help is difficult.  Searches keep giving me encoding settings for YouTube videos, and few results pertain to this particular issue.
I am aware I could export the video normally and upload through YouTube that way, but on DSL, my upload speed is pretty terrible for a high quality video.  The YouTube HD setting has been great for me in the past, as files are small but still look great online.  I would really like to get it working again, both for ease and convenience for simple projects.
If anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing a problem, I would be greatly appreciative of any advice.  In regards to the project itself, there is no real editing being done at this point, as I am trying to eliminate any possibility of error elsewhere. I opened a new project, added a video clip and went directly to upload it, resulting in the error above.
I don't believe it matters in this situation, but just in case:
    Windows 7
    AMD Phenom II X4 820 - 2.80 GHz
    6 GB RAM
    Radeon HD 5880 1GB
Connecting through a Netgear WNDR3400 router, standard DSL connection.

Sorry, not seeing where to edit my original post.
Just wanted to add, that I am able to visit both the Photoshop.com website, as well as YouTube through my browser.  So I am not being blocked somehow to those particular sites.  It only seems to be through the software that I cannot connect to any of the online services to upload videos to.
Additionally, the only virus software running is Microsoft Security Essentials.  It has never raised a flag before with this software or caused interference in the past.  I do not use Norton or any other service which are known to interfere with programs often.
Just a quick example as well, pinging Photoshop.com through the command prompt shows I am getting through just fine.  As you can see in this image though, it cannot seem to ever connect and grab my user information.

This is a long post but i wanted to give you as much information as possible. Below is the transcript between apple support. Here is the Story: just One account says network connection timed out. I didn't think until right now to try a different account which downloaded music and talked with apple just fine. It is only one account that isn't working what can i do? I have tried everything.
    Rashida,
I would like to get the problem solved and i thank you for your time; I have tried what you suggested and it did not work. I have tried different ISP opened my computer completely up so all ports are forwarded to the itunes computer; i have stopped all services including windows firewall on the itunes computer; I have tried installing a fresh copy of windows and only putting itunes on it with all ports forwarded, windows firewall disabled. I believe the error is an error; i don't know why i can't communicate with your servers is there anyway to cancel all the downloads and restart them; this might be due to me not completing a download on my iphone then trying to complete it on the computer. When i use my iphone connected to my wi-fi i can download music so my ISP can't be blocking the service. This is a very strange problem and would appreciate apples support and help. I may not be an expert on computers but i am in school for a degree in software development so my knowledge is above the norm. Thank you Rashida I hope we can find a solution.

My name is Rashida and I understand that you are having trouble downloading your purchased item due to a connection error. You are receiving a message stating "unable to check for downloads network has timed out." You also tried to download it using your parents device and you encountered the same error message.
As an iTunes Store agent, I handle issues related to billing, downloading, customer accounts, and the items available on the iTunes Store. Because your issue is with the technical operation of Apple hardware, I do not have the training or tools to assist you as well as you deserve. However, finding you a resolution to this issue is of the upmost important to me and so I have included some information that may help you.
I have confirmed that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections. Therefore, the issue is likely related to your Internet connection, local network, or computer. I'm happy to provide some information that should help you connect to the iTunes Store again.
Error 3259 is a network timeout error. Sometimes this error can be caused by software on your computer that slows down the network connection. This error can also appear if you are downloading multiple items. I'd like to provide some steps that should help you successfully download your purchases.
It often helps to pause the download and then download items one at a time. These steps will walk you through doing this:
    1) Open iTunes.
    2) From the Store menu at the top, choose Check for Available Downloads. If you're unable to upgrade and are using iTunes 7, the option will say Check for Purchases.
    3) Enter your account name and password, then click Check. Your purchases should begin downloading.
    4) Under the STORE section on the left, click Downloads.
    5) Click the Pause All button in the lower-right corner. This will temporarily pause all of your downloads.
    6) To resume only one of the downloads, click the refresh button that appears to the right of one of the paused downloads.
Certain types of software can affect the way a computer sends and receives information from the Internet. Here are a few examples of these types of software:
    - Firewalls
    - Web accelerators

Once you have managed to allow access to iTunes through other software, please follow these instructions:
    1) Sign out of the iTunes Store.
    2) Quit the iTunes application.
    3) Restart your computer.
    4) Open iTunes.
    5) Select Check for Available Downloads from the Store menu at the top of iTunes, (if you're unable to upgrade and are using iTunes 7, you'll choose Check for Purchases).

  • Set up VNC on time capsule behind uverse?

    Please Help....
I want to have the ability to VNC into my machine remotely. Along with a handful of other things I use, plex, back to my mac, remote access to the time capsule HDD,  ect. I had this all setup before perfectly with Time Warner using a dyndns.com account and my time capsule (worked flawlessly)
Unfortunately I am stuck using Uverse in my new apartment with a 2wire router/modem as it's my only ISP option.
I have a time capsule plugged into the 2wire (3801HVG) and the only way I can get VNC to work (port 5900) is to put my machine into DMZ mode and the time capsule in bride mode. I'm just afraid that this will be not very secure even with the software firewall turned on in my system prefs. With this setup my machine has the same public IP as the 2wire– essentially does not have a private ip. -"hello world here is my iMac!"
Although with this setup I went to canyouseeme.com and after testing various random ports it could only see me on 5900. Which is exactly what I want but I'm still worried about my iMac's ip being the same as my public ip.
I tried to port forward just the port I want to use in the settings for the 2wire (gateway.2wire.net) but it does not connect. Only if I put the machine in DMZ mode does it work.
I've tried so many different setups and spent hours digging through the interwebs and I just cannot seem to make it happen.
things I've tried / info you should know:
    1. disabling routing all together on the 2wire (not possible with my model I found out)
    2. tried separately putting both devices in DMZ mode (my machine, time capsule)
    3. forwarding ports on 2wire and time capsule
    4. time capsule in bridge mode, sharing a public ip, distributing a range of ip's
    5. I also have the wireless function of the 2wire router off
    6. I have tv through them as well
    7. I put in my own DNS servers from opendns.com
    8. called ATT and they attempted to open the ports for me which worked at first then I realized they put my machine in DMZ mode, then they transferred me to another company who wanted to charge me $150 for a week of support. (yuck)
Is there anyone out there that could point me in the right direction to the best way to set this up? Or is it safe having my public ip the same as my iMacs?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Eric

    BUMP!
Hello! Anyone out there have authoritative info on getting Back to My Mac working without opening DMZ using uverse 2wire router? Is opening DMZ  very risky even if you keep   appropriate firewalls  in place?
I agree Uverse were wanks for this: the tech who installed my system said it would work just as it was w prior service (ie BTMM working perfectly). Now, I discover I can't remotely login, and ATT tries to farm me off to some $150 tech service for what they should have done @ the outset.

I am new at this and trying to set up an ecommerce site to sell my Daughter's Homemade Jewelery.
Help, I don't know where to turn to next. I also signed up with ZoneEdit.com for Domain Name Service.

You have to set a static ip for your server and port forward to it. Then you use your wan ip with port numer on the end. 000.000.000:80  You shouldn't be seeing your router unless you have remote login turned on or are in DMZ mode.
If you have residential service you are not aloud to run a server on it. It is in the TOS.

  • PAP2T: Incoming calls being blocked by Router.

    Hi,
I am trying to use an unlocked PAP2T Adapter with Telus home network in Canada and am not able to receive calls. I can make outgoing calls to any number in the world, but whenever I get a call back, the phone doesn't ring & later I find it in Firewall log as being blocked under "Low Risk Attack". While trying to find a resolution with the VOIP provider I had at times picked up the phone randomly & found the caller on the line. So apparently the calls have no prblem reaching my PAP2T Adapater, it is just that (1) there is no ring when they do & (2) the incoming calls get blocked by Firewall & dropped.
I have tried port forwarding (UDP & TCP) as well DMZ mode for the Adapter, no luck. Later i tried disabling almost all of the internet provider's 2wire modem/router firewall features (UDP ports scan, packets , etc.) still didnt work. I have run out of ideas & hoping that someone can help me find a way out of this problem ? Appreciate your help & time. Thanks.

I changed to the following settings that did the trick for making the phone ring,
    Click Regional on the top:
Under Ring and Call Waiting Tone Spec
    Change Ring Waveform to Sinusoid
    Change Ring Voltage: 90
    Change Ring Frequency: 20
However, when I pick up the ringing phone, there is no voice going through the line. Also, as per my VOIP provider instructions, when I dial a local number followed by # sing & hang up in 5 seconds, I don't get any callback either. I have even updated the PAP2T to the latest firmware 5.1.6. Any thing else I can change to get the voice across & get the call back ? thanks for your help again.

  • Greyfield Deployment of UC320w with RV120w

I have a number of customers using the RV120w Small Business Firewall/Router in their business, and am having problems deploying the UC320w into these networks in a greyfield scenario. I am following the published Cisco document for configuring the up-front firewall, but cannot get the RV120w to forward the required packets to the UC320w. All customers are using NexVortex SIP trunking. With the RV120w, inbound calls either do not ring the phones or ring but exhibit one-way communication when answered. I have had good success when deploying the UC320w greyfield behind the RV180w (very similar device), set up in the identical way.
Has anyone else had success using the RV120w with latest firmware in a UC320w greyfield deployment?
What ports should be forwarded to the UC320w?
Here is my router configuration on both RV120w and RV180w devices:
VLAN 4 created, untagged on LAN port 4
    VLAN 4 configured with IP 192.168.2.253 (255.255.255.252)
    DHCP off on VLAN 4
    VLAN 1 untagged on LAN ports 1, 2, 3
    VLAN 1 configured with IP 192.168.10.5 (255.255.255.0)
DHCP off on VLAN 4 (DHCP provided on customer network by Small Business Server)
WAN configured with public static IP address from DSL modem
Port forwarding configured for the Small Business Server (Ports 80, 443, 25, etc. forwarded to server static LAN IP)
DMZ Mode configured to forward all remaining incoming traffic to the UC320 at 192.168.2.254
(I have tried forwarding only SIP ports, etc, but have had best success with DMZ)
Enable SIP ALG Option in Firewall
    UC320w configuration:
    UC320w Topology: Routes Voice Only
    UC320w VLAN 1 configured at 192.168.10.6 (255.255.255.0)
    UC320w VLAN 100 at defaults
    UC320w WAN configured at 192.168.2.254 (255.255.255.252) GW 192.168.2.253
    Thanks,
    Andy Williams

Based on this info, I tried disabling the DMZ and adding an access rule at the bottom of my list of 5 other port forwards. This last access rule is to "allow any service from any address" and route the packets to the UC320w on VLAN4's subnet. This does not work any better. Maybe this "allow any service" fails in the same way as the DMZ checkbox?
Can someone provide info on what TCP and UDP ports should be forwarded from my NexVortex SIP provider to the UC320w? I will give configuring just specific ports a try.
    Thanks,
    Andy Williams
