DNG 8 Windows XP and CS2?

Just got a new Fujifile HS50exr and would like to use it to shoot RAW.  I am running Win XP pro and Photoshop CS2.  Can I use DNG 8.x with theese products?

Yes you can. The DNG converter will create images that are compatible with Camera Raw versions back to version 2.4. Just make sure you set appropriate compatibility options in the DNG converter interface.
Although you will be able to have all the features that were available in your version of Camera Raw, technology has come a long way since then. You would be well advised to consider upgrading if you can.

  • Window 7 and CS2

is cs2 compatiable with windows 7

The XMP thumbnail is probably what is getting used in this case.  Even for images saved without Maximize Compatibility, the Ardfry PSD Codec can use the image in the XMP for the thumbnail if it's present.  Recent versions of Photoshop allow you to choose whether to save a thumbnail image independently of whether or not Maximize Compatibility is set.
However, larger thumbnails and viewing a large image in the preview pane (as well as Windows Photo Viewer and Windows Media Center) are dependent on having the flattened image available.  The same behavior is found with Preview on the Mac.
If any bit of your workflow is non-Adobe, then setting Maximize Compatibility is probably a good idea.

  • Windows Vista and Photoshop CS2 Compatibility?

I am considering the purchase of a new computer. I have Photoshop CS2, and I am debating whether to get Windows Vista or Windows XP Pro. I have read in the database about Vista and CS2, "Installs and runs with minimal known issues." But it also states under Support for Windows Vista, "not officially." So I am wondering whether anyone has PSCS2 running under Vista, and what kinds of problems you've encountered? Thank you.

I have come across a severe Photoshop CS2 incompatibility with Vista.
One of my printers is an Epson Stylus R310, which prints on both paper and disc. While this model has been on the market for a number of years, many people are still using it, especially those who, like me, have added a continuous-flow ink system to it.
Epson appears to have sat back meekly and allowed Microsoft, whose programming limitations know no bounds, to produce a Vista 'driver' for the R310. Epson even proudly announces on its various international sites that the driver is 'In-box'.
This so-called driver is so poor that Epson has had to release a PDF that shows how to fool the printer into printing to disc when using Epson's own CD Print software under Vista. The Epson XP driver automatically switches the printer dialogue to CD mode, but with the Vista CD workaround the paper mode is retained on screen and it is not until the printer reacts in CD configuration that a user knows that the workaround has worked.
When it comes to Photoshop no workaround seems possible. Print Preview just doesn't work as it does under XP. It is not possible to switch printers, so the target printer has to be made the default so that a preview appears. Otherwise, the user is stuck with the default. In my case, I have used the Photoshop preview box under XP to switch from my default A4/A3 mono laser if I want to use the R310 or my HP 1220. Epson Support's reaction to this situation is that it is up to Photoshop to change.
Problems such as these with the R310 under Vista no doubt apply to many other printers whose Vista drivers carry the dreaded '(M)' in their name.
This leads to a question of my own. I am wondering whether CS3 has tackled this problem of using truncated Microsoft Vista printer drivers with Photoshop. Can anyone enlighten me?

  • My new Canon MarkIII and CS2 are not compatible...

Hi - I wish I could go into a camera shop or an Apple shop to get this sorted. But there are none where I live so I hope someone can help me. I have a legal version of CS2 and use a G5 mac. I'm a professional photographer and I want only to open my RAW pix in PS without converting via Digital Photo Professional or anything else. I never have my G5 hooked up to the internet and therefore have not imported latest versions of anything. I have tried an illegal CS3 and that cannot open my RAW files either so I am loathe to buy a legal version if it does not solve my problem. While I know both my camera and CS2 back to front I am not a computer geek. I have had a look through the forums but cannot find any answers. Chao and thanks. H

Adobe doesn't offer "forever" support for new cameras, except for offering an ongoing update for their DNG converter. So, to get your canon raw files to open with CS2 you need to download the most recent version of ACR+DNG. See:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/
I cannot help too much, being more familiar with Windows, but the DNG converter does not need to be installed - it just simply works by pointing it at a folder of raw files.
The version of CS3 you tried probably didn't install with the most recent version of ACR, which is why it didn't work with your Canon files. ACR v4 is much improved over v3 - you might consider CS3. Another option, for approximately the same price of upgrading to CS3, is Lightroom (v2 in beta test). It offers a slightly different approach to digital photography that includes a library (i.e., database approach as opposed to Bridge's "browser" approach).
    HTH :)

  • How do I fix my left shift key? Any open windows leave and make the desktop visible.

How do I fix my left shift key? Any open windows leave and make the desktop visible. I have tired to go into system preferences and reset all of the keyboard settings to default but the issue hasn't gone away.

You are not running as administrator, I think, which may be required and the only way to properly work and register. Also check for compatibility mode settings, UAC and DEP, all of which may require to be adjusted for a legacy app like PS CS2 to run properly. Also turn off Aero and switch to a conventional visual theme. The brush issue may be related to that or is a more generic problem with your graphics card and mouse config, but since you didn't provide any info on that, it will be hard for anyone to advise.

You could try using the DNG converter 8.7 on Windows vista:

  • CS1 and CS2 InDesign file type problems and Tiger

    Dual 2.7GHrz G5, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.5
Previously, InDesign 3 (CS1 version) was installed on this Mac. I needed to install the full CS2 package. Everything installed just fine. The problem I am having is the file type associations. The Mac now sees CS1 InDesign files as Indesign CS2 files. I got info on a file I knew to have been created and saved in InDesign CS1. I changed the "open with:" to InDesign CS and it worked until I hit "Change all". It then reverts back to a CS2 file type. On other sites I found some different things to try like rebuilding or deleting the LaunchServices pref files, checking to see if their was a CFBundleIdentifier, etc. Anyway, what I seem to have found is that Tiger gets confused when the Type and Creator are the same in the info.plist files. Panther, however, does not seem to have this same problem. We have 10+ other G5's of similar hardware specs as the one listed above, running Panther 10.3.9, have CS1 and CS2 installed, and we are not having the same file type problems.
As a test, I modified the CFBundleIdentifier to be different than the one found in the CS1 info.plist, and it let me "change all" the CS1 files to CS1. Of course, CS2 files could not be associated with CS2 now.
Is there a fix for this? Or, is there a patch being worked on that will fix this problem? We really need to keep both versions of the software installed, and I don't want to have to rely on users making the decision about what version they are working in.
    Tom

If Get Info shows both app versions (& it should) as "Open with:" choices, you can at least still set individual docs to open with the preferred version. Instead of having to open Get Info windows, you can do the same thing a bit more easily with the contextual menu that pops up when you right (or CMD) click & hold on a Finder document icon.
Normally, the "Open with >" choice in this menu is a one time thing, but if you hold down the option key, it changes to "Always Open With >" & makes the new app choice permanent as it opens the doc, all in one step.

  • How to open RAW files using elements 10 with a pc using windows xp and nikon D3300

i have an old pc running on windows xp to which i downloaded elements 10. i recently bought a nikon d3300 and am shooting RAW. is there a way to open the RAW files using elements 10?

The 8.4 dng converter won't work on windows xp, but will on windows 7.
The newest version of the dng converter that works on windows xp is 8.3
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/12/camera-raw-8-support-on-windows-xp-windows -vista-and-mac-osx-10-6.html
Since you have windows 7 you might as well use the newest version of the dng converter 8.7.1
(covers the same cameras as 8.3, with some added and bug fixes)

  • Macbook Pro, BootCamp, Windows XP and Creative Suite 2, Oh my!

Okay so here goes. I might get a 15", 1 GB mem, 120 GB HD MacBook Pro. On it I will most probably install Windows XP and CS 2. Is this a good idea or should I give up hope now? Will I be able to install any other progams including the above mentioned ones? Also, how exactly does bootcamp work, it shuts down the Mac OS and starts up Windows? So will it go snail speed? Thanks in advance.

If you are intending to use Windows I would suggest upgrading the hard drive to 160GB. That will then allow you to have a 40GB Windows partition while leaving you with 120GB for your Mac OS X partition.
As for RAM, I think you should look at having a 2GB minimum. Adobe CS2 coupled with Rosetta are quite the memory pigs so you'll get far better performance with an upgrade here as well.
Boot Camp allows you to run either Windows or Mac OS X at a restart. It's really simple and runs Windows extremely quickly.

  • Looking inside of DNG Camera Profiles and editing them

For those interested in the insides of DNG Camera profiles, and how to edit them, I've written dcpTool.
dcpTool is a compiler/decompiler for DNG camera profiles (.dcp files). dcpTool can decompile binary format DCP files into an XML format for editing with a text editor or whatever, and then compile the XML format file back into a binary DCP file, as well as extract embedded profiles from DNG files. It runs on Windows and OS X command lines, and is based on V1.2 of the DNG SDK.
    See here: http://dcptool.sourceforge.net/
Health warning: dcpTool is a command line utility - if you're not comfortable with command line stuff, dcpTool probably won't be of any interest to you.

Very cool, thanks for the info.

  • Canon T1i and CS2

I have a sad feeling I know the answer to this question, but if I use CS2 and have the T1i, will I be able to get any kind of upgrade to process the raw files?
    Thanks so much!

No, download the FREE DNG Converter and convert the files to DNG....note, you'll need to have ACR 3.7 to open the DNG files. And also note you are leaving substantial and MAJOR image quality on the table by not updating to CS4. Seriously...ACR 3.7 sucks compared to ACR 5.5.

  • Intel and CS2

I am having a problem installing a legit copy of Adobe CS2 on my iMac. The installation seems to run very fast (too fast), but when I go into my applications folder, no adobe apps can be found. I have tried running the installer multiple times and have managed to correctly install bridge and photoshop once, but nothing else. I am sure it is a full version and that it is a mac version. any help would be appreciated.
    thank you

Same problem when I called Apple, I had to ask for a level 2 tech right away since the first person had no idea what I was talking about when I said I wanted to uninstall the recent 2006-003 update and her accent was very difficult to understand since I have a slight hearing problem.
Anyways, I am new to Mac computers, I am a long time Windows and Unix Admin, and multiple flavors of Linux for certain services. We were told we had to buy these Imac machines because we were bought out and the new company said we had to use macs, because everyon that does printing uses macs, I begged not to get the intels because of having to use Rosetta, but they would not listen, I almost quit over the ordeal since I was basically threatened and told to keep my mouth shut.
Regardless of all that, I am the one working countless overtime to get these Imacs working again. I ran into the problem when I did the 2006-003 security update. I tried an archive install which would not even finish, kept hanging on iweb. So I did an erase install, then installed Indesign CS2, and did not install the version cue, since I was already aware this was a problem. I then started updates one at a time, and tried created a PDF after a restart after each install. I did the quicktime install 7.1 first, worked no problem, and could make PDF's still, I did the 10.4.6 update and rebooted tried to make a pdf with acrobat and system hung. Restart in safe mode and remove the cache from library\caches\ and then reboot and as soon as I open acrobat the system hangs. Everytime I remove the cache I can then reboot normally until I open Acrobat.
I have noticed in my short time with Apple, that when something does not work, all I hear is that "well that isnt our problem, you should call adobe" or whoever the other program is. The plain simple fact, is that adobe is not the only program having problems, apple remote desktop is also having problems, and safari, and others, just search the message boards and you will see, but Apple refuses to resolve the issue, but if you dont install the update, then your system is open to security problems.
The fact that I can not just uninstall a secuirty update is unbeleiveable. The Apple level 2 tech told me that MOST updates including all security updates could not be uninstalled, you either had to archive or erase install the system to go back.
I think the Apple OS is great, but they should test products with their largest vender, Apple before putting out these intel Imacs, or security updates that cause problems. If Windows did this, Man everyone would blame Microsoft right away, but if it is apple, you end up with a apple community that is so defensive they will just say, well its not our fault its the program. Well guess what, a system without any programs is not very useful.
This whole mindset that I get from the other plants that windows crashes and I hear them joke about the blue screen of death and garbage like that is rediculus. I havent seen a blue screen since windows 98, until after the apple update that gave me the blue screen, and all the talk about how insecure the windows machines are. They are only insecure if an admin doesnt do his job. If he allows users to be administrators or doesnt do any updates for 6 months. I have numerous windows machines on this network and they run flawless, no virus, no spyware, no problems. 5 Windows servers, and 25 linux boxes running as thin clients booting to a windows XP remote desktop. I have had to tell people how to restart their computer since they forget and leave them running constantly, of course, I network boot them and restart for needed updates, but they forget how, because XP is solid.
So, sorry for the rant, but basically this is not acceptable for Apple. They need to fix their product and take responsiblity for problems, if they want to gain market shares above what they have, they will run into the same problems as microsoft, and they will be forced to make there machines run with certain required programs.
So, does anyone have a fix for this problem, besides dont use acrobat or dont install updates?

  • CS3 and CS2

I was searching forum and read that it may be an issue with installing CS3 and CS2 on the same computer. Can someone confirm this for me as true.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Never had any problem at all, although (disclaimingly yours) YMMV.
I should mention that my experiences are based on chronologically installing CS, CS2, and CS3,
    i in that order.
(It might be important -- perhaps someone with lots of free time can experiment with different install orders.)
As the file extension for all three versions is the same (".indd"), Windows cannot link files made with different versions to their original creators, and using the Explorer, the latest installed version will lways open. However, each separate program can be started manually, and can open its own documents and older ones w/o any problem at all.
