DNG Codec makes Vista Indexing very slow?

Hi,
I recently installed the DNG codec to preview my photos in Windows and I let Vista Search index all my storage. It was taking weeks and the number of indexed files was barely moving. I wasn't sure what it was so I started excluding folders from the index one by one. Eventually I realized that it was the Pictures folder which contains roughly 60GB of mixed JPG and DNG photos. I uninstalled the DNG Codec and now indexing is finished, including the Pictures folder, several hours later.
Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo 2.66MHz.
Regards,
Pavel

I've got:
4GB memory
Page File (virtual memory) is 7326M
2.4GHz P8600 Dual core processor
105 GB available disk space
video card is a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M
Those stats should surpass the minimum requirements with flying colors.
I've just noticed that ever since I've got Windows Vista, any menial task of moving (cut & paste) a 100KB file from one folder to another folder on my local PC could take minutes instead of milliseconds. Unzipping items also takes a ridiculous amount of time. I was thinking this slow vista file management might be causing the slow Oracle install.
I was hoping someone else might have see this issue before and can tell me where the "go-faster" flag is located.
Thanks!

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...

  • Why do i have two identical internal hard rive in my MAC? It makes my laptop very slow

My Mac book Pro is very slow since a few weeks. I decided to investigate. When i look in Disk Utility, i see two internal hard drive! The first one is almost full (18 Mo free on 800 Go). The second one is half full (this one is the one i see when i click on About this Mac, 400 Go free on 800 Go). I guess the first one is the one that make my computer so slow. Does anybody knows how this can happen ? What can i do for it ? It seems like the second one is a part of the first one.
    Thanks !

If you see 2 Macintosh HDs   when you check  Disk Utility, that is normal on OS X 10.10.Yosemite.
It is the Core Storage and Volume Manager technology in action.
There is no Knowledge Base Article from Apple  about this yet.

  • Spotlight indexing very slow after upgrading to 10.7.5

SInce I have updating to 10.7.5, the spotlight indexing of my hard drive is very slow : only 40% has been performed in two days.
Does anyone have similar problems after upgrading to 10.7.5 and know how to fix them ?

You're not the only one. I've been re-indexing on and off for the last four days to no avail. I had to call Apple today and was put through to a senior technical advisor. After doing a data capture for them I was told that they should be able to come back with an answer within the next two days.
It's worth giving them a call to let them run through the clearing caches process with you if you haven't done that already. Remember that using your machine whilst it's indexing also slows the process down.
I will let you know when they come back with an answer but I hope by t would hahen both of our machines would have finished re-indexing by then...

I still don't understand what it is you are doing that could slow it
down that much. If you have lots of screen updates, particularly using
the value property on property nodes, then having the panel open will
run slower than with the panel closed, but being a dialog shouldn't
    affect it.
If you are using lots and lots of property nodes, reconsider. They are
    for UI only.
You might also want to use th
e profiler to determine what is taking so
long. Open the profiler before running your VIs, Click Start, then run
your VIs to completion. Then click stop and it will give you an idea of
which VIs are slow. Also, the timing details will tell you how much
time was spent in drawing the panel.

  • T42 - Vista upgrade - very slow laptop - help please

    Hi
I have installed Vista Home Premium on my T42 (previously had XP Pro) and it is now very, very slow.  Also it seems to have erased everything IBM - ie -Access IBM button not working.
    Type 2373 - f1G, HD 40mb, Memory 500kb.
Do I need to increase hard disk? or memory? or both?
If I choose to reinstall XP Pro, how do I go about it? I do not have the original XP Pro disk and assume it must have been preloaded.
Sorry for the number of questions but I seem to have got myself into a situation over which my expertise is sadly lacking.  Beginning to wish I left well alone.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Maureen

    Welcome to the forum!
There are several issues at work here:
    a) RAM. You need at least (which is the maximum for your machine, BTW) 2GB for Vista to run properly.
    b) Larger/newer/faster hard disk would also help.
    c) Please be advised that your GPU is NOT supported by Vista and that you'll have to look for modded drivers on the web, and even with them your scores won't be good.
In my opinion, XP is the way to go for your machine. You can call Lenovo and order a set of recovery disks for a nominal fee.
Should you choose to stay with Vista, go to "support and downloads" page on Lenovo's website, put in your model number and start updating and unpacking the drivers...
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Bridge CS6 Cache Indexing Very Slow

In CS6 the first time a folder gets indexed it takes about 5-10 times longer than for CS5.  I use embedded thumbnails.
For example I have a new folder of 70 .wmv and .mp4 video files.  Each file is between 100 and 240 megs.  I took over 6 minutes to load the thumbnalils the first time.  I dumped the cache from the Tools menu and it rebuilt in about 40 seconds, which is the same as for CS5.
    Anyone else experience this?
    Win7 64 bit, 8 gig ram.

Curt, I have noticed this for video files as well, it's painfully slow. I do notice it indexes much slower when accessing an external drive, but this is frustrating because I feel like it should be faster.

  • Finder/Indexing very slow

My Finder is currently spiking between 100 and 196% on a dual processor PowerMac g5 with 2GB memory. In the past, I've simply deleted the PLIST file and repaired disk permissions and the problem has gone away. No deal this time.
Additionally, in trying to solve this I decided to re-index to see if that helpde, so I deleted the current index and set indexing in motion. After over an hour, this G5 has indexed less than 10% of the one hard drive I have, performance which, using severe understatement, is SLOW. Activity Monitor says that ContentIndexing is using as much as 100% of a CPU .....to apparently do almost nothing.
While I have added no new software in two years, it seems that every time I do an official Apple "Update" something gets worse...
Any suggestions? (othger than stop doing Apple updates)
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I suggest you begin with:
    *Repair Disk Permissions*
While booted from your internal HDD
Go to (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left column and First Aid in main column.
Click Repair Disk Permissions at bottom left.
    then:
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
Please be sure to post back with S.M.A.R.T Status info.
Next, download and launch MacJanitor. Run daily, weekly and monthly tests.

  • Enabling BitLocker makes BIOS POST very slow

With BitLocker enabled using the TPM of my Thinkpad X61T the BIOS POST time increases for 1 to 17 sec.
After the BIOS POST Win7 takes 15 Sec to start. So enabling BitLocker doubles my boot time.
Is this long boot time the expected behaviour with BitLocker and Thinkpads, or can it be omitted?
The positive: Windows itself does not feel slower with BitLocker encryption. HDTUNE does not measure a slowdown.
    X61T, Bios 1.2.2, Window 7 Beta x64, 1400x1050, 4GB RAM, 1GB Turbo Memory, Intel X25-M SSD

Updating to BIOS 1.23 released 2009/04/27 did not help.
Installing Intel Matrix Storage driver 8.9.2.1002 released 2009/10/02 (offerd by the Win7 compatible version of System Update) did not help.
Is Lenovo planning to fix this problem?

  • New download of Firefox v. 3.6 for Vista seems very slow. Can anyone think of why this would happen?

    April 5th, 2011:
First, I didn't install Firefox 4 because it doesn't support Norton 360 and the related toolbar which is crucial to me. So I installed 3.6 which I have used before which was corrupted by a Trojan virus I was infected with. I had to uninstall everything and in the interim I used IE8. I re-installed Firefox 3.6 yesterday and the only add-on I installed was the Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox.
    Added on April 6th, 2011:
Also, I forgot to add that often times I am waiting while the top of the screen says "Mozilla Firefox" - (Not Responding) which is what I went through with IE8. I'm getting VERY frustrated.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this question as I am VERY behind in my work due to all of this "mess". :(
    Christine

Norton has released a patch to address incompatibility issues with Firefox 4. See [http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894 Norton Compatibility patch Firefox 4.0]
If you would like to update to Firefox 4.0, please do that ''before ''you install the Norton patch. Update via Help | Check For Updates preferably.
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
The '''Browserplus '''plugin you have installed will almost certainly cause Firefox to hang occasionally and it would be wise to disable it via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins.
You also need to update Flash to v10.2.159.1 which also patches a recently discovered Zero Day exploit. See [http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Adobe-releases-security-update-for-Flash-Player-1228930.html Adobe releases security update for Flash Player]
You can update Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Similarly, your Shockwave For Director plugin is also out of date which may cause Firefox to hang if the video requires a newer version. Update that via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
Last but not least, consider disabling the Yahoo ActiveX plugin via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins. ActiveX is a Microsoft technology which is frequently targeted by hackers. By installing it in Firefox, you're comprising the browser's security and potentially exposing your system to attack. Firefox can open any Yahoo page without requiring ActiveX to be installed.

  • When charging my iphone 4s with the wireless still on, it uses the bandwidth and makes my internet very slow.

When my iphone 4s is connected to my wi-fi and I charge it either through my computer or through the plug charger, my internet becomes slow.  For some reason it acts as if the iphone 4s is downloading something and that is making my internet slow.  What is the problem here?  One fix is that I have to turn off my wi-fi from my iphone 4s.  But I dont want to do that, because I obviously want to be connected to the internet when charging my phone.

    i had same issue.
    turned off icloud-storage & backup
    went fine again

Check for malware infection. The names of these files really indicate the system is infected.
Which version of Java client is installed? Especially older versions are very vulnerable against website or email based attacks.
Since malware infections are very different, detailed support can hardly be given via forums.

  • Report run very slow because some user accessing the same report

    Dear All,
I group my table into 3 tablespace And some reports, accessing different tablespace (more than 1 table space). and these report will always be run by 5 user in the same time. and make it run very slow. Is it going to make the report very slow ? Please advice
    Thanks in advance
    Widhi

    Hi,
i hope that may not be the actual problem..
if ur report processing includes relatively high
amount of calculations on tables..then the report
    processing can be very slow...
In that case try to create a table to store ur calculations
temporarily and try to use that table in the report..

  • Java 2D very slow with Windows XP

    Hi all!
I'm writing an isometric game engine using Java 2D API, in full-screen exclusive mode and using all the advantages of the new VolatileImage class. The engine is almost finished, I'm testing it putting some animated players on screen and showing the frame rate of the engine. Everything went right, frame rate was very high in Linux and Windows 98/Me. But when I try to run the engine on Windows XP I can only get 5 or 6 fps!!!! And I don't know why!! It seems that XP makes Java run very slow... at least when using Java2D...
Please, anyone knows why the performance is reduced??? Is there a new JRE release for Windows XP?? I'm using JDK 1.4.1.
    Thanks for your help.

If you're using the Fullscreen API, then you're using BufferStrategy, thus you shouldn't use VolatileImages, it does this for you in the background. You shouldn't create any buffers, simply use the one provided. I'm assuming your problem probably lies in transparency. I've made an isometric engine using the fullscreen API that has run with complete 60fps page flipping. I would assume your bottle-neck lies in:
Transparencys (These are very slow, there is a way to make a bitmask, much like you'd do in DirectX)
Dynamic Memory allocation/Alpha rendering in your animation loop. (You need to allocate ALL of the colors you're going to use, and avoid using an alpha component if you want to avoid the VM getting bogged down by the garbage collector because you're allocating 30 Color objects a second).
I made a Color object that was some what hacked together that has methods to allow you to access it's values for doing this kind of thing, allocating your scheme before hand is an easier approach.
The method that performs the page flipping is a BLOCKING method, so you should orient your drawing before it, and not assume it's simply placing a request, like repaint does.
