DNG Converter 7.4RC - support for X-trans sensor?

Hi, the ACR 7.4 download pages says it "includes a correction to the demosaic algorithms for Fujifilm cameras with the X-Trans sensor". Is that correction also included in the DNG converter 7.4?
Thanks

An exception to this would be for Linear DNGs that have already have been demosaicked, but still retain the raw property of absolute white-balance and camera calibration adjustments, right?
And Lossy DNGs that are resampled from their original resolution (which requires that the file be a linear DNG).

  • DNG converter don't work for some RW2-files

    Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In  some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works  for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made  10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only  thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are  10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the  pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
    Thanks

sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

I don't know anything at all about your file format, but it sounds as if there is an option to create compressed raw files.  I know Canon has this option.  It may be that somehow you used this compressed option, assuming that there is one, and it may be that the DNG converter does not support the compressed raw format.  If not, maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  • Adobe DNG Converter - command-line parameters for new 1.4 features

Adobe DNG Converter - I need to know what the command-line parameters are for the new DNG-1.4 options (e.g. lossy compression).
Last I checked, there was no updated documentation released - would somebody please help?
    Rob

By inspecting strings in the exe file using ProcessExplorer (MS SysInternals), I found these command-line switches for controlling lossy compression:
    -lossy
    -size
    -count
    A D O B E
Adobe: please take a moment and update the command-line documentation - thanks.

Just a short question: does anybody know how long will there be development of signatures for 4.x sensors ? Will they be for free or is there also subscription on the way ?

  • Does DNG Converter support CFA DNG for X-Trans files?

Does Adobe DNG Converter support the X-Trans sensor layout from ie. the X100S? Can converting an X-Trans sensor RAF file to to DNG result in a file that is _not_ in any way demosaiced and/or linearized?
If DNG Converter truly does support conversion of X-Trans to CFA DNG files, how can the resulting files be so much smaller (when not linearizing or ticking lossy compression of the DNGs)? The RAF files are all around 32 MB, while the DNGs are around ~23 MB. Is it only a matter lossless compression, or is the mosaiced data in some way altered?
If DNG Converter does support CFA DNG for X-Trans, at what DNG Converter version did you first implement support for the X-Trans sensor layout and conversion of X-Trans data to CFA DNG files?
These are important questions that I'm having a hard time finding answers for. I'd appreciate answer to any (but preferably all) of the questions.

  • Confused - DNG Converter RC for RAW files from d810 - doesn't work...

    hi everyone -
sorry for the stupid question, but i've never had to do this before. i read somewhere here that if you download camera raw 8_6 and dng converter 8_6 you can convert raw files from d810. i just tried that with the dng converter and it says that the files are not recognized.
what am i doing wrong? can someone help me figure this out?
    many thanks in advance.

The first thing to point out is that the release candidate will not recognize the new small raw format. You'll have to shoot the full-sized raw images. The other thing to be aware of is that, in the DNG converter, when being prompted for the location of your raw images, it is asking for the FOLDER. Choose the folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter will convert the raw files contained within that folder.
If you want to shoot TIF, you would probably have better image data to work with than you would with JPEG images. But it still wouldn't be as flexible, and you wouldn't have as many options as you would shooting raw. Try the DNG converter with my suggestions and see if it works for you.

  • DNG converter for RAW files

I have been using Dng converter to convert RAW files from an unsupported camera (Olympus sp350) for importing into iphoto. Unfortunately the latest version of iphoto (9.2) does not seem to be compatible with the latest Adobe dng converter (6.3.0.79). Any suggestions?

  • Lightroom support for Fuji X-Trans???

    From DP review:
Just came back from D-Clic photo show in Montreal and had the chance to talk with Billy from Fuji Guys. He asked me if I was happy with my X-Pro1 and I said yes, very happy BUT would like Adobe and others to better support it (or at all in the case of Aperture...). I expected him to play it safe but he actually acknowledged the problem right away and told me that they recently signed a non-disclosure agreement with both Adobe and Apple and provided them with specs for supporting the X-Trans sensor !
He said he is also pushing strong with Fuji to add support for TIFF in the camera so that could be another good thing for some.
Lets hope this leads to progress...
    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3286994
Hope this is the real deal…

I had contact with Adobe support on Friday. They are aware of the problem, but could not confirm me that it will be fixed in LR 4.4. We need more pressure!!!

  • Fuji X-Trans Sensor - Fuji X-E1 Chroma Smearing and Crop Problems with Lightroom 4.4RC

Like others, I found that Lightroom 4.3 caused chroma smearing on my Fuji X-E1 files.  I compared 90 shots I did today processed with Fuji SilkyPix RAW converted and LR 4.4RC.  It appeared to me that the chroma smearing problem is solved.  I did not see the chroma smearing, even at 3:1 zoom.  The .tiff files from SilkyPix and the .dng files from LR, appeared practically identical which was not the case with LR 4.3.
There was some discussion of purple fringing with the X-E1 and the Fuji 18-55 on this forum.  I did not see this in my backlit shots today.  I believe that the problem can be greatly reduced or eliminated by avoiding over exposure in the camera.  I have found when faced with very bright skies and darker foregrounds that I get better results by metering the sky, and then over exposing only 1 to 1-1/2 stops.  If I cannot do this, I get good results by properly exposing the subject.  If both the sky and the subject are over exposed, the fringing appears around the subject.
I was also happy to see that my files are no longer coming into Lightroom cropped.
It looks like I will be able to use Lightroom for my Fuji files with the 4.4RC.

The results of my experiments are different than what is being said, here, and different than I expected.
My DNG Conversion options are as listed, above, and did not include setting Custom with Linear as a conversion option, but merely setting ACR 6.6+ as the compatibility.  If there is some way to set Linear along with ACR 6.6 compatibility I’d like to know how.
My guess would be that either Adobe is making a linear DNG in this specialized case of X-Trans, to make things compatible with older ACRs that have no idea how to decode X-Trans--which is the promise of converting to DNG, OR Adobe is modifying the X-Trans data to have it be more like normal Bayer layout of still one-color-per-pixel so not demosaicking, exactly, just re-mosaicking.
    Anyone can repeat my experiments:

Just read this on Lightroom Journal so I'm passing this along for those who use older versions of Photoshop:

    Donald,
    Christoph Pfaffenbichler is right:
Only if you have to process RAW-files from newer cameras – or am I misunderstanding something here?
The DNG Converter 6.4 will continue to work on all your raw files from all your current cameras for as long as you own your G5.
Should you buy a new camera, get one that shoots DNGs natively and you can continue to use your machine for as long as it lasts.  You can, for instance, upgrade to a Pentax 645D or the much less expensive K20D and K7.  Just look at the quality of this 40-megapixel (7264 x 5440 pixel, 44mm x 33mm sensor) lowly-JPEG shot with the 645D.  View it at 100% (actual size) and scroll vertically and horizontally:
CAUTIONARY NOTE: it's an 18-MB file or so, even as JPEG.
    http://www.pentax.jp/japan/products/645d/image/ex_01.jpg
The photograph is by Nozomi Tanaka.  Yes, I wish I had that camera, but I'm perfectly happy with my Pentax K20D, which also shoots DNGs natively and the rest of my collection. As you well know, I'm not a pro photographer such as you and many other contributors to the forum, just a photography enthusiast and camera addict who tangentially used photography in the course of my productive life and for pleasure for seven decades.  I still enjoy using film to this day, perhaps more than ever now that one can combine both film and digital in the digital darkroom.
If you want to stick with Canon or Nikon, demand that they offer a native-DNG option.    But, since you don't want to (or, like me, you are not in a position to) spring for a new Mac-Intel box, I assume a camera upgrade is not in the works for you either.  Therefore, future versions of DNG Converter are totally unnecessary for you.

  • New DNG 4.5 doesnt support Nikon D90 ? When ??

I was relying on the new DNG for D90 support as I have CS2 installed and of course Adobe no longer will support "old" versions. Can someone let me know if and when Adobe plans to support this camera even with DNG?
warning balance of my post is a rant!!!!
I was happy to PAY for an upgrade to Photoshop CS4 -- but - now your not going to believe this - Adobe won't take my money! I stupidly bought the entire CS suite and paid well over $1,000, thinking I would be getting the value of being a top flight customer. Now that Adobe has my cash they won't let me upgrade Photoshop to CS3, I have to update the entire suite to the tune of around another $700.00. Thanks Adobe, but no thanks. Can you imagine buying a first class ticket on an airline and being told the free coffee is available only in coach! I've got my own work around now to openning D90 RAW files and using them in CS2 - I won't be upgrading beyond CS2 or buy any other Adobe product - ever. There are tough economic times coming one of way of surviving the storm - treat your customers with respect, while you can.

    > I stupidly bought the entire CS suite and paid well over $1,000, thinking I would be getting the value of being a top flight customer.
You should have bought the Creative Suite for the variety of applications and the functionality...if you didn't NEED the Suite, I wonder why you bought it? But you DID buy a license to the Suite so I wonder why you are surprised that Adobe won't sell you an upgrade for a single component of the Suite?
    >Can someone let me know if and when Adobe plans to support this camera even with DNG?
DNG Converter 4.6 supports that camera...at the moment it's available only on the downloads FTP site because the main Camera Raw product page is being rev'ed for the release of Camera Raw 5.0 as part of Photoshop CS4 (which apparently you won't be interested in). http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/ explains this and gives download links for the Mac & Win versions of Camera Raw/DNG Converter 4.6.
    > I won't be upgrading beyond CS2 or buy any other Adobe product - ever.
That's the ticket...you go right ahead and teach the big bad Adobe something by your refusal to upgrade...course, it's too bad you don't care about image quality and a substantially improved workflow cause Photoshop CS2 is pretty far down the line in that regard. But, I'm sure your refusal will hit Adobe right where they will feel it, people who were silly enough to buy something they didn't need and then ended up complaining that Adobe is ripping them off...actually, I'm kinda thinking Adobe doesn't really NEED customers like you. Just a thought :~)

  • Bug in Adobe DNG Converter 7.2 RC

Adobe DNG Converter 7.2 RC (for Windows) keeps missing files. When pointing it at a folder containing many raw image files to convert (and providing a different folder as the destination for the converted files) then it won't always find all the raw files. There are no files besides the raw image files in the folder ... umm, with the possible exception of the hidden Bridge cache files, .BridgeCache and .BridgeCacheT. The destination folder initially is empty.
When this happens then I have to re-do the conversion, with the same source and destination folders selected and the Skip source file if destination file exists check-box ticked. Then DNG Converter will collect and convert the raw image files it missed in the first run. So far, I never had to perform a third run, but I frequently have to do two runs to get a folder's raw files converted. For example, in my most recent attempt there where 966 raw image files in the source folder (of the type Sony ARW, along with XMP sidecar files), and DNG Converter found 954 files in the first run and the remaining 12 in the second. The bug also occurs when the folder contains mixed types (Sony ARW and Leica DNG in my case). There is no error message or any other kind of hint that something is going wrong, so you have to check the result manually. The status line at the top of the Conversion Status window teling the number of files to convert will report the number found; if that's less than the number of raw image files available then you'll have to start a second run when the first is finished. It's easy to miss the problem, and then you may end up with some files not converted!
So far, the bug inevitably occurs when there are many raw image files in the source folder—i. e. more than 400 (and up to 1,200). When doing several attempts on the same source folder then the set of missed files will vary, i. e. it's not always the same files that get missed. It is not even always the same number; the number of missing files varies between, say, 5 and 20, i. e. approx. 0.5 - 5 % of the number of files in the folder. It seems that if the number of raw image files in the source folder is small (say, less than 300) then the bug does not happen. In my last successful attempt, I converted 263 files of type Leica DNG, and DNG Converter found them all on the first attempt.

    ssprengel wrote:
Does it matter what hard-drives the files are on, whether they are missed?
No, it doesn't. There are two physical SATA hard-disk drives installed in my machine, and the error occurs no matter where the source files are. It also does not matter where the destination folder is. Usually it's on an external 3.5" drive connected via USB 2.0, but I also tried the internal drives, to no avail.
    ssprengel wrote:
Does an older DNG Converter also miss files?
Gosh! To my surprise, yes it does! I just tried DNG Converter 7.1, 6.7, and 6.6, and they miss files just like 7.2 RC does. They didn't back when they were current ... or at least, I never noticed.
This seems to indicate that the culprit is not DNG Converter 7.2 RC but my machine. But then, my machine and the hard-disk drives (including the external 2 TB 3.5" USB drive) are the very same I am using for years now. I didn't change the operating system; it still is Windows XP SP3. I am also still using the same cameras as I always did for years now. The only significant things that changed recently (besides DNG Converter) are Photoshop 13.0.1 and Bridge 5.0.1.
