DNG converter 8.3 help please

I have Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS5. After being helped on a live chat, I downloaded the DNG converter 8.3 so I can send a RAW photo from my Olympus E m-1 from LR to PS. It still doesn't work. Do I have to do anything with the DNG Converter after it was installed in my Mac Applications folder? I do not use Camera Raw or Bridge, but I Photoshop won't let me send a photo from my camera to PS from Lightroom because of the Camera Raw issue. I had no problem sending a E M-1 photo to PS5 from Aperture. Thanks

The DNG converter is a program that you have to download and install. After it has been installed, you have to run the program and use it to create DNG copies of your raw images. Then, those DNG copies can be opened with older versions of Camera Raw. The DNG files cannot be opened directly in Photoshop. That is why the Camera Raw plug-in is provided. Camera Raw enables you to make adjustments to the raw image data before the image is converted to an RGB image and sent to Photoshop. You say you don't use Camera Raw. But if you are working with raw files or DNG files, and using Photoshop, then using the Camera Raw plug-in is essential.
If you have Lightroom 5.3 or later installed then you should still be able to send your files from Lightroom to Photoshop if you choose the option to render a copy that includes the Lightroom settings. In fact, that is the option you will need to use all the time unless you decide to upgrade your Photoshop. Although you say you don't use Camera Raw, it is an integral part of the image processing when raw files are involved. Photoshop CS5 cannot use a version of Camera Raw that is new enough to accommodate your camera. That is why you will have to use the "render a copy" option. And then in that case, you are right in saying that you don't use Camera Raw. But as I mentioned, you need to have Lightroom 5.3 or newer installed. Go to the Lightroom help menu and check for updates. If you use Lightroom and render a copy, then you won't need to use the DNG converter.

In a worst case senario, create your own replaceAll method:

New convert needs some help, please.

I just converted to MacBook with Intel Core Duo and I need to run a few programs that only run on the MS OS.
Anyone with a Quick Start on loading the MS OS onto the Mac would be appreciated along with any headsups to look out for while installing or post installation. Any feedback would be great as well. XP versions suggestions?

You have 2 options : Apple's own Boot Camp OR Parallels Desktop.
Boot camp - free download. You need to partion your hard drive - very easy, just follow the instructions.
With Boot camp, you are either in Windows OR OS X. (restart required when you switch OSs)

I run Parallels - and it has been flawless.

DNG converter won't open CR2 files for conversion: no items match your search [was: Please help!!!!]

Hello, I am stressing out!! I have downloaded the DNG converter and whenever I try to click on the folder to convert it, it says no items match you're search, I can view the pictures in my desktop just not with the converter. I use windows 8 PC and the file type I'm trying to convert is CR2
if anyone out there knows what's going on please help, I'm second shooting at a wedding next weekend so NEED it sorted by then the thought of a whole day shooting and no results isn't even worth thinking about!

Ok so it's a canon 1200d, it's the 8.7 version. And in using Lightroom 4, it's strange because the first time I plugged it in it worked and I managed to edit all my picture and now I've taken more pictures it doesn't seen to work.

Camera raw is not updating to 8.6 only the DNG converter is, please help

I have Camera raw 7.1 , it doesn't open Nikon D810 NEF files,
I Downloaded the 7.2 , the 8.3 and 8.6 but the package from Adobe only updates my DNG converter and not my camera raw... I tried and tried, nothing is working. I need to get photoshop and bride to open These files ASAP (I know its in the 8.6) package....
Also the help tab doesn't allow me to update in photoshop !

This converter sucddenly stopped working. The information screen comes up, but the spaces for input are black. I can't uninstall it b/c it doesn't appear on the list of programs on the Control panel Install/Uninstall.

I have Adobe CS5 and have just bought a panasonic FZ200. Rawimages cant be opened from this camera in CS5 so I have downloaded the DNG converter. All is well on my laptop but on the PC which is where I would really like to edit my images I keep getting an error message 'the source folder doesnot contain any supported camera raw files'. They are the same files! I have copied them on to both machines so why does the converter not see them? My laptop runs windows 7 and the PC runs Vista - is this significant? I am really fed up with this , have been trying to get these images edited all day!!!!

I think the problem you are having is that, when browsing using the DNG converter, you are opening the folder that contains your raw images. Notice that the prompt asks for the FOLDER that contains your raw images. Choose that folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter should convert the images that are in that folder. If you only want to convert one or two images, drag/drop them onto the icon that you use to start the DNG converter.

With regards to your .arw files:
You need to either purchase and install Lightroom 5.4 -- OR -- download and install and use the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.4, did you actually launch and use the DNG Converter?
There should be no problem importing JPG files into Lightroom from your camera, what happens when you try? Is there an error message?

Yes, you need CS6. DNG Converter is just a standalone tool to convert RAW to DNG files which then may be possible to open in older versions of Adobe tools.

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...

The screenshot shows the first raw file is named T1-XMG_3306.CR2 which probably corresponds to a normal raw filename of IMG_3306.CR2. It is not clear where this name came from. I guess it is possible that you’ve entered in a renaming template in LR’s Import panel that replaces the initial I or _ with T1-XM and so the files are renamed.
What I have asked for is not a screenshot of your filenames, but one of the CR2 files, itself, which you can upload to dropbox and post a link to. You should use copy/paste to get the link into a message, rather than typing it in, if at all possible.
This is because it was my understanding that these oddly-named CR2 files don’t work, and I wanted to look more closely at them to see if they were recognizable as some other type of file.
Do you have a raw file named IMG_3306.CR2 that these files correspond to?

HELP. DNG CONVERTER 8.3 or 8.3 WON'T WORK ON WINDOWS 7

I have tried downloadind both versions and niether one will work. I can download the file but when it comes to installing it says it has installed. So click on it to open it and it does the same thing again.I've tried the suggestions that I found in an earlier post but hasn't solved it.

If you go to the download folder all you are doing is running the install package. If you are on a Mac you need to go to your APP"s folder and if the DNG icon is ther then it has been installed. Double click the icon and the program should open.
Next step, the DNG converter is a stand alone application and the only function that it can perform is to convert raw files to a dng format. The DNG converter cannot open files or do any edits etc. When the program is open you have to select a folder that contains the raw files you wish to convert (the folder not the files,) Then when you select the convert option a dialog box with options will popup and you can make your selections and proceed.
A word of caution if you are not sure about what you are doing do some more research before proceeding. One thing for sure do not select the option to delete your original raw files. The process is not reversable, when you have gained some experience and are certain you do not wish to keep your original files you can decide then to delete. Not something I would wish to do, just my choice.
