DNG Converter-does it automatically recognize camera files?

If I have multiple Sony cameras, all with .ARW extension, does DNG converter automatically recognize the different cameras, or do i have to manually segregate from the different cameras and convert only one camera's files at a time?
One more question:  why doesn't DNG converter have its own community?

The exact camera model is stored in the Raw file headers and will be automatically detected. DNG converter is the same as Camera Raw, so any questions can be directed there.

  • When trying to export data from a program we use, it does not automatically recognize the file format as .xml. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

I have tried to uninstall verion 3.6 and reinstall. Also, I re-imaged the workstation, but it still does not work. The OS is Windows 7 32-bit. This same process works automatically on an XP workstation. In fact, the machine I re-imaged was an XP box, but it did not work on this particular machine. Hence, the reason for the new image.

I am exporting the file from TxEIS (in the Firefox web browser) and it does not download properly. Acccording to Firefox documentation, it is supposed to automatically recognize the file extension. I have not experienced this on any other machine within our environment. Other users are performing this same process with no problems. The browers settings are exactly the same as the machines that are working right.

  • DNG Converter does not recognize my Canon Raw files

I have the Canon EOS Rebel 450D. I downloaded the Mac version of the DNG converter, ver. 5.6. However it does not recognize the Raw or CR2 file. According to what I read on the Adobe website, my camera is supported. Why is it not recognizing the file?

Seem to be a few threads recently where people are having printer connectivity problems - often Canon. If you haven't already, you could try resetting the printing system, it sometimes helps re-establish a connection:

  • Can you tell me when RAW (ORF) support for Olympus E-PL7 in Lightroom or DNG Converter is coming? The camera is no use to me until you provide support!

I recently bought the new Olympus E-PL7 an dam finding ti incredibly frustrating that Lightroom still doesn't support it. Is there any news on that?

First of all, this is a user-to-user forum. Nobody here can tell you when/if that camera will be supported. Secondly, Adobe doesn't make announcements like that in advance. The camera will be supported when it is. All of the previous models of that series are now supported in Lightroom, so I suspect it will only be a matter of time until your model will be supported. I know that isn't what you want to hear, but that is the reality of things. There is a release candidate of the next Camera Raw and DNG converter, but your camera is not listed as one of the newly supported cameras. That does not mean that it wouldn't be included in the final version. You just have to wait and see.

  • I don't understand DNG Converter and legacy versions of Camera Raw

I would like some help understanding what happens when you use DNG converter and open the resulting file in an old version of Camera Raw or Lightroom.
I think I understand that with Camera Raw or Lightroom use two camera profiles for every supported camera.  And that DNG also uses camera specific profiles.
But I don't understand what happens when you open a DNG Converter produced file (from a camera not supported in previous versions of Camera Raw or Lightroom) in an old version of Camera Raw or Lightroom. Is the camera specific profile being used to extrapolate colour information?

    You are damned right.
I bought a Nikon D700, then Lightroom, then a book on Ligthroom,  then a printer Canon Pro9500.
The problems I have, just to achieve a good print are insane.
Today, after reading that it's necessary to install a camera profile, I downloaded these profiles.
    But which one fits my D700? D2X mode 1, D2x mode2 or mode3?
    It's so frustrating.
I spent a fortune on it but I'm not able to get decent prints.

TM automatically erases older files when the drive fills up.
DO NOT delete files on your own. That's courting disaster.
Only delete files using TM to remove them.

  • The adobe DNG converter refuses to load my NEF files

How can I get nef files from my nikon d800 loaded into the DNG program?

You need to get the latest version from these links:
    Windows:

    MAC:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5695&fileID=5706>
If you want to upgrade your PSE11 to the latest version of Camera Raw then post back so that I can post the necessary instructions here.  PSE12 updates automatically but PSE11 doesn't but the manual method works.
    Good luck.

  • Safari does not automatically open pdf files.

After updating Acrobat to 7.0.5, Safar no longer auromattically opens pdf files, when I click to open a pdf on the web. Every time it asks me which application do I want to use. When I select 7.0.5 it works fine. When I open a pdf from a the finder it opens the proper version and Get Info shows the proper association.
I cannot find how to fix the association in Safari.
    Thanks for you suggestions.

Hi, Jim. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. Quit Safari if it is open.
    2. In Acrobat, select Help > Detect and Repair.
    3. Select or deselect the options in the resulting window, as desired, assuring that<pre>__ Adobe PDF Viewer
View and edit Adobe PDF within Safari</pre>is selected.
    4. Click Continue.
    5. Type your Admin Password when prompted, click OK.
    6. You should get a message indicating that "missing components were repaired."
    7. Launch Safari and open a PDF on the Web to see if it's fixed.
FYI: Questions regarding Safari should be posted to the Safari Discussion.

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Does DNG Converter support CFA DNG for X-Trans files?

Does Adobe DNG Converter support the X-Trans sensor layout from ie. the X100S? Can converting an X-Trans sensor RAF file to to DNG result in a file that is _not_ in any way demosaiced and/or linearized?
If DNG Converter truly does support conversion of X-Trans to CFA DNG files, how can the resulting files be so much smaller (when not linearizing or ticking lossy compression of the DNGs)? The RAF files are all around 32 MB, while the DNGs are around ~23 MB. Is it only a matter lossless compression, or is the mosaiced data in some way altered?
If DNG Converter does support CFA DNG for X-Trans, at what DNG Converter version did you first implement support for the X-Trans sensor layout and conversion of X-Trans data to CFA DNG files?
These are important questions that I'm having a hard time finding answers for. I'd appreciate answer to any (but preferably all) of the questions.

  • Confused - DNG Converter RC for RAW files from d810 - doesn't work...

    hi everyone -
sorry for the stupid question, but i've never had to do this before. i read somewhere here that if you download camera raw 8_6 and dng converter 8_6 you can convert raw files from d810. i just tried that with the dng converter and it says that the files are not recognized.
what am i doing wrong? can someone help me figure this out?
    many thanks in advance.

The first thing to point out is that the release candidate will not recognize the new small raw format. You'll have to shoot the full-sized raw images. The other thing to be aware of is that, in the DNG converter, when being prompted for the location of your raw images, it is asking for the FOLDER. Choose the folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter will convert the raw files contained within that folder.
If you want to shoot TIF, you would probably have better image data to work with than you would with JPEG images. But it still wouldn't be as flexible, and you wouldn't have as many options as you would shooting raw. Try the DNG converter with my suggestions and see if it works for you.

  • DNG Converter Doesn't Recognize NEF for D7000

I have been lon time user of Adobe DNG Converter with Olympus E-500 but I recently got the new Nikon D7000. I have Elements 9 and I am using DNG Converter 6.3.0.79. I download the Elments Verison of the Camera Raw update that came out in December 2010. When I open up my DNG Converter it doesn't recognize any of the NEF files on my camera. I must missing somthing but not sure what it might be. Do I need to add a profile somewhere for it to see the NEF extention? I am bit at a loss.
    Thanks for any help

What do you mean by reinstall? Do I reinstall PSE 9 and then apply the patch or do I just do the patch again? I have installed the patch a couple of times and nothing is different. There is something wrong with the installation because now my Olympus RAW files do not show up either and they did as of yesterday prior to the installation of the 6.3 update.
And yes I can load the NEF into Elements but I like the batch convert option for RAW files.
    Thanks everyone for your help.

  • DNG converter don't work for some RW2-files

    Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In  some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works  for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made  10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only  thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are  10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the  pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
    Thanks

sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

I don't know anything at all about your file format, but it sounds as if there is an option to create compressed raw files.  I know Canon has this option.  It may be that somehow you used this compressed option, assuming that there is one, and it may be that the DNG converter does not support the compressed raw format.  If not, maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  • DNG Converter 8.7.1 not converting RAW files.  Windows 7.

DNG Converter is not recognizing any RAW files hence it will not convert anything to DNG.  Tried the download a few times and different versions but nothing is happening.  I just had the computer repaired and iI have lost the ability to convert CR2 and IIQ files.  Previously, before the computer crashed I was able to do so.  At the recommendation of the service tech, I went from Windows 8 to 7, since I hated 8 and other machines I work on are 7.
It probably is a simple fix but I have no idea what needs to be done.  Please advise.

  • I can't open nikon D750 NEF files with adobe dng converter 8.7

I have downloaded adobe dng converter 8.7 to open NEF files from my new nikon D750 but it not works. The program do not recognice the files. Do you know how solve this problem?

You have to launch and run the Adobe DNG Converter on each batch of raw files you want to convert to raw DNGs.
You have to point it to the folder containing your raw files.  It does NOT work on individual raw files; it simply won't see them.  It works only on folders.
