DNG converter fails on some Hasselblad H2D-39 files

Hi,
I run CS3 so I tried the new 5.4 beta. When converting a batch of .3FR files, some files convert while others do not. Those that convert work well when opened in CS3, those that do not result in an error message in the converter. I cannot really se any pattern in which files work and which files fail.
Here is the sys info from CS3:

Hi,
Thanks for responding. I thought this was the forum pointed to from the download site, was not aware of the dng forum. Though there is another post on probs with convering Hasselblad files ( http://forums.adobe.com/thread/436615?tstart=0 ), my symptoms are quite similar ("Unknown error") so I would suspect this could be related to the same prob? As I am quite keen to get rid of the Phocus software, if there is anything I can do to help you fix the bug, just send me a note.
Thanks, Håkan

  • DNG converter fails to extract embedded .cr2 raw files

I just tried to extract embedded raw files from 889 raw files from a Canon 5D3 having been converted by the DNG converter 6.7 beta - the DNG converter only succeeded with extracting three of them. I also tried with the 6.6 stable version with the same result.
If DNG converter can't easily retrieve the embedded raw files then I think this "feature" should be left out - it's misleading people into taking unwanted risks when you're better off just keeping the originals (it's a bit more messy to organise and archive two sets of files, but I'd rather do that than having to mess around with this)
So stay away from this "feature" unless you want to paint yourself into a corner.

Download and test the most recent version (final GM) of DNG Converter 6.7 and retest...might also be useful to provide a bit more info such as OS & CPU...and also whether or not the DNGs behave normally in ACR or LR. Basic troubleshooting info to test or duplicate your findings would be useful (required) before you can honestly be making such "blanket" statements about DNG Converter...

  • DNG converter fails

When uploading RAW files to bridge, they are downloaded as CR2 files and the DNG converter fails to work, even though requested to.
Customer has to separately open a copy of the DNG converter and do it separately from Bridge. Everything worked fine when he was using
a Canon 50D. He switched to a Canon 7D when this problem was first noticed. He has re-formatted the compact flash card, rebooted the computer,
tried to download directly from the camera, with no successful result.

  • DNG 5.4 beta converter issues with Hasselblad H2D-39 files

I was directed to this forum when I posted a note on the DNG converter 5.4 beta, converting to use on Photoshop CS3 (see thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/436940?tstart=0 )
The converter has a very interesting "fail pattern" when converting Hasselblad .3fr files:
First file fails (error message displayed is "Unknown error", second file converts OK, 3rd fails, 4th OK, 5th fails, 6&7 OK, 8th fails..
By about the 20th file, 5 are successfully converted in a row and then by file 30, no more failures!
So it would seem that there is not really a problem with actually reading/processing the .3fr file content. Instead looks like some form of memory or other issue in the code??
I have also noted a few cases of problems with the conversion itself, picture ends up totally posterized, see attached file which is unmodified out of raw -> PS  CS3:
Finally, processing the DNG files converted still fails on Photoshop CS3 as reported earlier in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/421742?tstart=0
If I open the DNG file in PS CS3 and save pretty much immediately, saving works. If I do almost any processing, the "Save as" freezes PS3 before the file/directory selection dialog starts. Only forcefully stopping Photoshop helps. Looks like there is something in the "Save as" dialogue that does not check for exceeding max memory allocated to Photoshop or similar?

  • DNG Converter does not recognize my Canon Raw files

I have the Canon EOS Rebel 450D. I downloaded the Mac version of the DNG converter, ver. 5.6. However it does not recognize the Raw or CR2 file. According to what I read on the Adobe website, my camera is supported. Why is it not recognizing the file?

Seem to be a few threads recently where people are having printer connectivity problems - often Canon. If you haven't already, you could try resetting the printing system, it sometimes helps re-establish a connection:

  • DNG converter 7.1 doesn't see  NEF files

I've been using a previous version (4.5) of the DNG Convertor without any problems.
    I downloaded 7.1 version after buying a Nikon D800.
However when navigating to folders the program sees NO  files (D800, Nikon  D3, RAW, jpg.  or otherwise) saying "no items match your search" once the folder is opened.
Please help.  Computer is Windows PC running Vista Home Premium.

    Jim,
Please see my response to your answer on the adjacent posting - just to reiterate, I can see and try to select a folder I know to contain NEFs, but the program says "no folder selected" so that's that basically it and I can go no further. I've been using an earlier version of the dng converter which behaves in the way you outline with no problems at all. However I need the new version for D800 NEFs. I've tried to post a screenshot of the window where I select a folder. - I see the image isn't very clear but I've selected a folder outlined in blue on the left in the browsing window and the large window says "no items match your search"

  • How often does Adobe update DNG converter and/or Camera Raw to read files from new model cameras?

My PC operates with Windows 7. I now have PSE 11 with Camera Raw version 7.1.0.354 which will not open my new Panasonic LX7 cameras RW2 raw files.  I have tried to use DNG version 5.7.0.213 (the latest) to convert my RW2 files to DNG files but it won't recognize the RW2 files as even existing.  Can I expect Adobe to update either of these programs any time soon?  If not, any ideas?  Thanks
(This is my first question on any forum, so hope I have used the correct protocol.)

I believe the current Release Candidate (ACR 7.2 RC) supports your camera.  You can download it from the Adobe Labs site.
    http://labs.adobe./downloads/cameraraw7-2.html
This is a Release Candidate, which means it is not completely checked out but Adobe would like users to use and report problems.  It will be released before the end of October as a production release.
I know this works with Photoshop CS6, but don't know about Photoshop Elements 11.

  • DNG converter don't work for some RW2-files

    Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In  some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works  for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made  10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only  thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are  10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the  pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
    Thanks
    pittip
sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

I don't know anything at all about your file format, but it sounds as if there is an option to create compressed raw files.  I know Canon has this option.  It may be that somehow you used this compressed option, assuming that there is one, and it may be that the DNG converter does not support the compressed raw format.  If not, maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  • DNG Converter stopped working

I am using the Adobe DNG Convertor to convert my CR2 Canon RAW images to DNG files, then Photoshop Elements to save as a JPEG. I use a MAC. The Adobe DNG converter is version 4.4. (It always worked so, I never messed with it.)
When I open the DNG Converter, it no longer sees the CR2 files in my iPhoto (iMac) library.
I recently did a software upgrade on my iMac. Perhaps that messed it up.
    I have 1.0.4.6 Bridge that I don't use.
If I need to upgrade, what do I upgrade? Should I uninstall the DNG first as it doesn't look like there is an upgrade...just a newer version.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any detail would be appreciated! Thanks.

I don't understand why the DNG converter would just stop working.  Did you get a newer camera?  If the camera you are using is not supported by that version, that could be part of the problem.  I would suggest that you download the most recent version of the DNG converter.  It will be compatible with the most cameras.  Also, I note that there are some compatibility options that need to be set in the newer versions that help to ensure compatibility with your other software.  But you really should be using a more recent version.  There are no "upgrades" to any version of the DNG converter, there are only newer versions as you have observed.  It is in your best interest to always use the most recent version.  It will create DNG files that are compatible with all versions of Camera Raw since version 2.4.

  • DNG converter works automatically for NEF but not NRW

I have this issue with the DNG converter and Adobe Camera Raw 6.3. I run Windows 7 64 bit, and use the DNG in my worklflow with a program called Image Ingester Pro, where the card is downloaded with three copies (original and two backups) on separate internal hard drives, put in folders and renumbered, and the DNG converter is applied to the original and back up #1, leaving me only dng files in those hard drives. The original raw format is saved to the back up #2.
This works incredibly well with NEF files from my D2x. No issues. Using the latest download of the converter.
I have a Nikon P7000 that shoots a raw file that is a NRW file, which Camera Raw 6.3 and LR 3.3 now supports with this latest converter. I run the same program, and the DNG converter fails to run. It leaves me with NRW files in all three hard drives. I can then locate the folder, open the converter as a standalone program, and run the converter, and it converts the files. I then have to search for the NRW files and delete them, leaving me the DNG files in these 2 folders.
The same issue happens on my laptop runing Windows Vista 64 bit.
I have tried every work around including deleting the download and doing a fresh download of the converter. Somewhere the program stops when it sees the NRW file. Has an additional prompt or step been added? Is it a new administrative permission, that does not occur with the NEF files? This is really perplexing. Nikon is continuing to use this file format with the D7000 and possibly other cameras. Do we have to wait until ACR 6.4 is released for a fix?

I installed DNG Converter 6.3 this afternoon to use with NRW files from my P7000.  It does not even recognize that NRW files exist, however runs fine with NEF files already on the computer.  My laptop runs Vista 64.
Also loaded Converter 6.3 on my desktop, running Vista 32.  Doesn't work with NRW files there either.

  • CS3 with Bridge and DNG converter on new MacBook Pro and update recognition

I have CS 3 with Bridge.  I installed it on my MAC desktop in 2008 and had to update the DNG converter to recognize my Nikon D700 raw files.  I have a new MAC Book Pro and installed the software on it but it does not recognize the raw files, I downloaded the updated DNG converter but unlike the desktop it did not automatically update as I recalled it did in 2008.  On the DNG Converter window the #1 selection is select image to convert, #2 Select location to save conver timages and #3 select name for converted images.  Not sure what to do here, it all most leads me to believe i need to do this each time I download raw images?
Any step by step help is appreciated!

  • DNG Converter: limited path

DNG converter worked for some time on my PC with Windows 7 but since a few days the onlyu path it can see is c:/users/myname
Any idea where DNG converter gets this crippled path? All my other software runs fine BTW.
I tried reinstalling DNG Converter and Camera RAW but I am afraid it uses some kind of registry setting that is not removed when reinstalling..
    Can anyone help?

Installed 6.1 and have the same problem. I can neither navigate to a folder to choose files or navigate to a folder to save files.
On the computer with this problem, I installed Windows 7 (Professional) from scratch. On my laptop, which doesn't have this problem,
I updated to Windows 7 (Home Premium) from Windows XP Home.
This problem also comes up in Lightroom (2.7) and Bridge CS5. It isn't present in Bridge CS3.
It appears that the lastest Adobe programs need to run under the default Administrator account to be able to choose folders elsewhere on the computer/drives. I'm running them under the account I created when installing Windows 7 (named it "Rod") and that account is an Administrator account. But I have to log in to the default Admin. account to be able to browse to folders using the "choose folder" button (in DNG converter, Bridge CS5, and Lightroom 2.7)
I don't have this same problem on my Windows 7 32-bit laptop and I recall reading somewhere that the 64-bit OS handles security stuff differently?? Not sure.

  • DNG converter 4.5, command line broken

    Hi,
The command line feature of the DNG converter appears to be broken on the latest version (4.5).
    Version 4.4.1 still functions OK...
    Anyone got a clue?
    Greetings,
    Auke

Yes there is a problem with 4.5, I is using it togheter with Downloader Pro and have recieved this from the developer:
It appears to be a bug in Adobe's DNG Converter: the -o command line option appears to be broken. This document lists the command line options: http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/pd...ommandline.pdf
If you type in the same command line options as DLPro's plug-in is using in a "Command Prompt" window Adobe's DNG Converter fails to create the DNG file using the pathname specified using the -o option. As far as I can see -o works if the output filename is specified but fails if a full pathname including the directory is used.
Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about this as the problem is caused by a bug in Adobe's software.

  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 updates won't work? Also tried DNG converter but will not work either.

Does anyone know how to get the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 to update so you can use it? I can't process raw files with my new Canon SD Mark 3.
It looks like they stopped doing updates.
Next I tried the DNG converter but it was useless. It could not find any of my photos.
SOS - I needed to complete a job with this last night and their site won't help and they finally respond by saying we will get back to you in a few days.

That camera requires at least Lightroom 4.1. There is no update for Lightroom 3 that will support the files from that camera. I'm guessing that you're having the typical problem that new users at the DNG converter encounter. The converter prompts for the *FOLDER*. If you open that folder then the DNG converter will tell you there are no files to convert. Just choose the folder. I know, it's really stupid prompt and method. But it is what it is.

  • Adobe DNG Converter 5.7 won't recognize Canon T2i files (.CR2)

Just downloaded Adobe DNG Converter 5.7.  I have a Canon T2i and my camera raw files (.CR2) are listed in the Converter but are faded and can't be selected.  Does anyone know what is going on or have a similar experience?

Remember that the DNG Converter works on FOLDERS, not on individual files.  If you are in the File > Open dialog box, make sure you're targeting the folder, not individual files.
Otherwise, use the Finder to drop file icons on the DNG Converter's icon.
