DNG Converter filename as original date from EXIF

Hi there,
I like the DNG Converter, except that I would like to use the date from the EXIF information as the filename. That doesn't seem to be possible.
Does anybody know of a(nother) way of doing this?
Thanks!
Regards,
D.M.

Under section 3 in the DNG Converter, select one of the date options from one of the popup menus.
If you don't like that format, consider using Bridge or Lightroom to perform the renaming.

You had to reinstall CS6 after cancelling the CC as both were from the same Adobe ID. You can always use & keep both CC & CS6 together.

  • DNG converter just started changing dates wildly-by 10 years!

    Hey all,
Been using DNG converter for awhile now with zero problems.  The past couple weeks whenever I process some files up to my server at work, it will change the date from today's date (i.e. 2/24/14) to some date in 2002.
I've tried rebooting the computer, restarting DNG converter, deleting DNG Converter and re-installing a newer version.  Nothing is working.
Any ideas?  I don't think I've done anything differently... it just started happening.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I tried the following - perhaps it helps you:
created catalog - imported cr2 files, applied development ajustments
imported the same images as dng files (without ajustments)
delete cr2 files outsite of lr.
Tried to copy / export ajustments - did not work :-(
    My Solution:
Make a backup of your existing data, before you try this!
    1. I picked a random cr2 file (name test.cr2) and gave it the name of the original raw file. I patched the exif data from the dng file into the copied raw file:
         for a in *.dng; do
                   cp test.cr2 `basename $a .dng`.cr2
                   exiftool -tagsFromFile $a `basename $a .dng`.cr2
         done
    2. Now I was able to export the cr2 ajustments as .xmp files (perhapst copy/past may also work)
    3. I appied the xmp file to the dng files
         for a in *.xmp; do
              exiftool -tagsFromFile $a `basename $a .xmp`.dng
         done
    4. I reloaded the metadata from the dng files into lr. LR applied the ajustments.
My script are only examples which worked for me on cygwin. They work with bash. The skript does not check if cr2 already exists - so it overwrites cr2 if dng files with the same name exists. (If you need the script for mac, I can try to re-write it tomoroow.)

  • Lens data from Exif

This is a question that was raised in the Lightroom Forum, but I think it might fit better in here. In Lightroom there is an option to sort images with respect to lens used, a very neat function, but when using raw files from Minolta (.mrw) or DNG's converted from these, no lens data is provided. The only information in there is "Unknown lens". Can this be fixed?

It may work this way with Pentax PEF files but unfortunately doesn't with Minolta MRW or Sony ARW files. Of course, Minolta AF (and now Sony Alpha) lenses do report their identities to the camera, and the camera does write this info into the EXIF data but it ends up as an obscure lens ID in the Minolta (or Sony) Maker Notes where most 3rd-party software (including Adobe's) cannot (or would not) access it.
    Eric DeSilva wrote:
    > Adobe apps will store it in XMP format, but all the makernote

This is not true! Adobe XMP won't read the Maker Notes sections but it does preserve them. When I convert an MRW file to DNG (with Adobe DNG Converter) and then create a TIFF or JPEG file from the DNG (with Camera Raw) then the Minolta Maker Notes will still be present in the final TIFF or JPEG file (and of course in the DNG file, too).

Sigma lenses don't have Minolta/Sony lens IDs but just random numbers. Kindly ignore what Sigma lenses do. And please don't bother which lens 'was really used.' Just provide us with the lens ID found in the EXIF Minolta/Sony Maker Notes data. Please!
By the way, is there a way to access the Minolta Maker Note LensID tag (or any tag) in the EXIF data through the JavaScript API? If not then please add one!
Currently, I enter the names of the Minolta/Sony lenses manually into the metadata. I customized my File Info Panel 'Camera Data 1' so I can enter the data there in a fairly comfortable way. This is not too hard to do because usually I am using no more than two or three different lenses per assignment usually. This way, the lens names go into the exif/1.0/aux tag named 'Lens.' Unfortunatey, due to a bug in Bridge or in XMP, raw files and DNG files won't accept changes in this and a few more tags; only TIFF and JPEG files will. Instead, the change will get stored in Bridge's cache only. So I wrote a Bridge script to manipulate the XMP sidecar files' contents directly, to 'burn' the changes from the volatile cache permanently into the disk files' metadata.
All this would become *much* easier when 1) we had access to the lens ID in the Minolta (or Sony) Maker Notes and 2) someone would eventually care about fixing that $#!+ metadata bug in Bridge (or XMP) which was already there in Bridge 1.0 and still is around in Bridge 2.1.

  • Confused - DNG Converter RC for RAW files from d810 - doesn't work...

    hi everyone -
sorry for the stupid question, but i've never had to do this before. i read somewhere here that if you download camera raw 8_6 and dng converter 8_6 you can convert raw files from d810. i just tried that with the dng converter and it says that the files are not recognized.
what am i doing wrong? can someone help me figure this out?
    many thanks in advance.

The first thing to point out is that the release candidate will not recognize the new small raw format. You'll have to shoot the full-sized raw images. The other thing to be aware of is that, in the DNG converter, when being prompted for the location of your raw images, it is asking for the FOLDER. Choose the folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter will convert the raw files contained within that folder.
If you want to shoot TIF, you would probably have better image data to work with than you would with JPEG images. But it still wouldn't be as flexible, and you wouldn't have as many options as you would shooting raw. Try the DNG converter with my suggestions and see if it works for you.

}Secondly I am trying to put the values from a HashMap into ".xls"
    PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter (new FileWriter("Unique_words_count" + file) + ".xls");

This put the values in the same columns. I want the results to be two different columns like
    column1 column2
    key1 value1
    key2 value2
Please do advise. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to just get the file name "reaper"from it instead of reaper.txtActually, I ran a test, and
         System.out.println(  "file name portion == " + ( f.getName().split( "\\." ) )[ 0 ] );works also:
This has the same effect as:
         String fileName = f.getName();
         String splitFileName[] = fileName.split( "\\." );
System.out.println(  "file name portion == " + splitFileName[ 0 ] );Now that I think about it, the second form is more easily understood. There is really no reason to do it the first way. Just interesting to note that you can.

  • Get original data from input after being parsed by formatter

    Hello.

Please check Where Used List for /SAPAPO/OM_PEGID_GET_ORDERS in SE37. You will see the sample code within standard SAP program.
Also do read Function Module documentation for this FM, this has special mentioned that -

  • DNG converting creation date too; dont want

DNG converter changes the creation date to conversion time ( = modify time) in finder.
This is precisely unwanted.  How to retain original creation date please?
    Mac OSX.8.2

It seems that every time I try to find a workaround or say that something cannot be done, someone comes back and says there is a plug-in that will do that. And I seem to recall that someone has already indicated that there is a plug-in for fixing the problem you are referencing. But I don't use plug-ins. I am just a "plain vanilla" Photoshop/ACR/Lightroom user. You might want to do a Google search and see what you can come up with.
The problem, from my point of view, is that the file date on the DNG after it has been created is not a function of the converter. That date is stamped by the operating system. And since I don't use plug-ins, or at least haven't up to this point, I don't see any way for the operating system to read the EXIF data in the file to get that date.

  • What's the Difference in Conversions done with ACR vs. DNG Converter?

As an experiment, on my PC workstation I just converted a set of 40 Canon CR2 files with both the free DNG Converter 6.5 and Camera Raw 6.5 (both 32 bit and 64 bit).  With Camera Raw, I dragged the files to Photoshop, then used the [Save Files] button and chose .dng format.  I chose "Medium" thumbnails in both cases.
The DNG Converter and Camera Raw 32 bit took almost twice as long as Camera Raw 64 bit (56 seconds vs. 33 seconds).
The .dng files produced by Camera Raw ended up larger than those by the DNG Converter, about 9% larger on average.
A file comparison shows that the differences are all near the start of the file, and that the latter 80% of the data is identical in all three cases.
The DNG converter files are more different from the Camera Raw files than the two different sets of Camera Raw files are from eachother.
This leads me to ask these questions:
    1.  Why are the 32 bit DNG converter app and Camera Raw 32 bit plug-in so much slower than the Camera Raw 64 bit plug-in?  I have an 8 core machine, and in general don't see a 2:1 difference between equivalent 32 and 64 bit code.  It appeared by watching Task Manager that all of them were using more than one thread to do the work.
    2.  Are there any plans to release a (much faster) 64 bit DNG Converter for Windows x64 users?
    3.  Is there a practical / usability difference between the .dng files generated by Camera Raw vs. those generated by the DNG converter?

Not really.  Particular threads do not normally maintain a long-term affinity for particular cores, so the usage gets spread around as Windows does its multitasking stuff and what you normally see is just activity across the board, as seen in the screen grab below (that was DNG Converter running).  Only inasmuch as the overall percentage is higher than 1/n (where n is the number of cores) can we infer a certain amount of multithreading.
And yes to both of you - every setting that I could find is perfectly consistent across the board, including compression.  And as I mentioned before, the embedded previews are coming out exactly identical, both in size and color.

  • Bug: DNG Converter 8.6 ignoring XMP files

There seem to be a severe bug in Version 8.6 of the DNG Converter.
It just does not take over XMP data from sidecar files anymore into the generated DNGs.
As a result the previews embedded into the DNGs are flat as well, any former edits are not being applied.
Up to version 8.5 everything worked as expected, this behavior is new in 8.6.
I don't know, if this is the right place to ask - but Adobe, please fix this ASAP! Thank you!

  • How to export a continous waveform data from a while loop?

    Hello there,
I need to add noise signal to my waveform which is read from a binary file. I use noise generate vi (deleted the density part) from NI example as my sub VI, and put it into a while loop in order to get the continous noise signal, but I don't know how to export this data. There's no waveform come out from the noise waveform output tunnel (on the while loop). I used output tunnel, didn't work, tried shift register, didn't work... Can anybody help?

  • Load data from file and send to background

Hello, is it possible to load data from a file on the presentation server and then create a batch input to call a transaction with those values but on background NOT using data set?
    Thanks in advance.

U can surely design the process to be executed in various ways..one of them is as below ::
    Upload ABAP.
    1. It reads the file from the presentation server and exports it into INDX database with a specific filename.
    2. Updates a ztable with user/upload date and time/filename/status=U.
    Batch ABAP.
    1. It reads the ztable for all the files with status=U.
    2. Using the filename IMPORTS the data from INDX database.
    3. Creates the batch input to call transaction.
    4. Sets the status as process along with process date and time.
With the above you can have multiple uploading data and batch job picking up each file and doing the needful.

  • DNG converted files will not open in Photoshop CS

I'm attempting to use DNG converter on a RAW file from a Canon G9 camera. This camera was recently added to the list of cameras supported by Adobe Camera Raw. I'm trying to avoid spending 200 bucks to update PS CS to CS3. Additionally, my Mac is running OS 10.4.11. I understand that this OS will not run PS CS3. What I need to know is whether or not my PS CS will work with files converted by Adobe DNG. The camera raw feature of CS does open the raw files of a much older Canon G3 that I own. Ideas, anyone?

As for your issue with DNGs in CS, did you bother to update ACR to version 2.4?
See the detailed instructions on the download page.
    >What I need to know is whether or not my PS CS will work with files converted by Adobe DNG.
Of course ACR will, if you correctly install Adobe Camera Raw 2.4.
No version of Photoshop opens raw or DNG files, only ACR does, hosted by Photoshop. But you do need at least version 2.4 of ACR, which was the first to support DNGs.

  • NEF files not recognizing by DNG converter

i have downloaded DNG Converter 8.3 7.1 6.3 on my laptop but the converter doesnt reconginize NEF files from my camera nikon D800, my operating system is windowns ultimate 64 bit, i recently upgraded from Windows XP it was working fine with XP, please help

Besides not selecting the folder the way the DNGC wants, another possibility is that you’ve used older Nikon software, Nikon Transfer or View NX, which are known to corrupt raw files for newer Nikon cameras.  You can reverse this corruption using the utility from here:
    http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
A further possibility is that you’re trying to process video-stills from the camera when a DX lens was mounted.  This combination of video aspect ratio and DX-cropping is not compatible with Adobe products until the next versions.
For this last issue, you can try the newest beta DNG Converter 8.4 RC available from Adobe Labs:
