DNG Converter suddenly stopped converting "There was an error writing this file"

I shoot on a Nikon D7000.  Have a Macbook and CS4.  Have been using DNG converter for at least a year and today, suddenly...5 files into converting a folder from NEF to DNG, it stopped working.  I have restared the program.  Restarted the computer.  Reinstalled the program.  Ran updates on all Adobe software and still no luck.  I can't get it to convert a sinlge file from the folder I was working in or any other NEF file on my computer.
Very weird.  It worked fine.  I had never had a problem with it until today.
Any clue what's happening?  HELP!!

I had the same problem. My 2 cent:
(1) Reboot your computer [I work in I.T., this usually fixes all the problems users are experiencing]
(2) Make sure you have space in your destination/source directory where the images are going to be added.
This is what happened to me: I selected my memory card where all the (RAW) images are located. My "save to" location happened to also be my memory card. Basically, I had no more space on my memory card, but I was asking Adobe DNC to convert and save/add those images into the same location, my memory card. Which gave me the exact error message you are reporting.
Fix: I just created a new destiatoin/location on my computer's hard drive where Adobe DNC can save those converted images. Works for me; I hope it works for you.

  • There was an error attaching this file

I wanted to send an email and I tried to attach a file from pages, I have tried several times but I always get
"there was an error attaching this file"

Is the file open in Pages when you're trying to attach it? Save and close it first.

  • There was an error writing the file

I used Bridge CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7 to batch process about 1500 Raw CR2 files from a Canon 20D down into basic jpg files. I got about 1200 pictures done and all of a sudden it started giving me an error saying, "there was an error writing to the file." It appears that it will no longer process any CR2 files. It gives the same error for each file as it processes, with no more helpful information.
I tried changing various settings and processing different images taken from different times in the past and I now get the same error with all of them.
    Anyone know what's wrong?

Sounds like your hard drive may be going south. But a lot more details about your platform and setup are needed before anyone can help.

  • Adobe reader issue there was an error opening this file. the file cannot be found. How to fix this?

We are opening pdf file in flex air application. but for some user we are facing this issue.

Problem is not being able to open pdf attachments.  Get this error message:  "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
I searched on the web and in the context of a discussion I located, an Adobe professional posted this solution: HKCU\Software\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\AVGeneral\bValidateBytesBeforeHeader=dword:00000000.
I am accustomed to attempting to fix things myself, but I am not a computer science person so it's always a stretch for me. If I get a little guidance I can usually make necessary corrections.  I hope that I can with this issue..
Still hoping that someone will know how to fix the error problem which according to what I read is a software issue having to do with the program not understanding something in the pdf header...

  • I cannot backup my files.  I get an error message saying there was an error writing a file.

I have several catalogs in Photoshop Elements 12.  I display them and add to them, but when I try to back them up I get an error message saying that there was an error when writing a file.  What can I do to successfully backup my catalogs.  I have several thousand pictures in the catalogs.

Do you have any unsupported video files. If so remove them from Organizer and then try a backup.

  • There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired. Error mess

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I have an invoicing program that allows me to send an invoice as a PDF to a customer in an email. It always worked fine but for some reason anyone that gets the PDF email attachment gets the message " There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired". I don't know why this is suddenly happening. I downloaded the latest Adobe Reader 10.1 and that didn't help. I also downloaded the trial version of Adobe Acrobat X and that doesn't help either. I can open all PDFs on my drive but for some reason my program seems to have a problem converting or writing the invoice file to a PDF. Anybody able to help? Thank you very much!

    Hi Bill,
Thanks for your response, I'll try and answer your questions as best a possible. I am not printing to anything, just emailing and I'm not sure what you mean by "the adobe PDF printer". I originally could not find for sure what acrobat I was using although there is a file in my C drive with acrobat 5.0. When I tried downloading an update I found for that version, it told me it couldnt download the update because the original is not there. I then downloaded the new trial version of acrobat X in the hopes that may work, but it did not change the issue. I believe my invoicing program uses some internal PDF program inbeded in the invoicing program for the emailing option it provides. I did send the email to myself and it is the same as I send to anyone else, it has that error message. The others in my office can open the invoicing program and email the PDF perfectly fine to themselves and to me, it's only when my computer tries to send the invoice through email that we have the problem. I can view the file (invoice) perfectly fine. I do not not how to check this encoding you are referring to. Do these details help you, to help me?? Thank you again for your help.

  • There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found

An automation script on one of our QA environments kept tripping on the error: "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found".  The same script ran fine against our Production servers (hint, which were "whitelisted").
It took a little time to resolve/trace what was happening (but with the aid of ProcessMonitor and tracing all "pdf"-related file activity...)
The problem lies squarely between McAfee (75%), Adobe (20%) and Microsoft (5%):
NORMAL WORKFLOW.  IE (Internet Explorer) when popping a PDF document, has to (1) write the document to the IE cache, then (2) launching and "handing off" the document reference to the Adobe viewer (which might then be able to open the document, et al) -- assuming largely a "synchronous" workflow.
BUT "WAIT", HOLD THE HORSES -- McAfee takes ownership and decides infact "wait for us" (during the workflow), it wants to first perform a virus scan on the document (ahead of writing the document to cache) involving potentially large latency (delay) before making the document available to the system. However, instead of "fessing up"-that their scan may be taking too long, McAfee appears to have taken their work "off-line" in violation of the sychronous interface above. I'm guessing the developers at McAfee might have been trying to hide any extra processing overhead being incurred by assuming they could somehow convert this to an "asychronous" event.  (This may also have more reach than just PDF's.)
Unfortunately, the browser's "PDF OPEN"-dialog box pops allowing Adobe to launch-and-open the "as-yet-not-virus-scanned-and-thus-not-yet-cached"-document. Thus clicking the OPEN-button will cause the related "...FILE NOT FOUND"-error to be seen (because the file is still in McAfee "limbo").
Note: If you close the ADOBE reader (but don't yet close the popup-OPEN-dialog) you can click OPEN a second time and it will probably now open the document - which McAfee finally finished scanning!
You can observe all these interactions with ProcessMonitor, and use the monitored file states to adjust the timings of events to reproduce both the failure and non-failure scenarios.
    - Best Regards, Ziggy
ps. My assessed distribution of "ownership" of the problem is because ALL these parties should be aggressively resolving this for the customer-base!

What, exactly, were you trying to do when you got it, and how?

  • There was an error opening this document. Adobe Reader XI

Win Xp, Sp 3. When converting a word-dokument  with Acrobat Elements 7.05 the immediately opening in Adobe Reader XI fails with several of the "well known" messages "There was an error opening this document. File not found" and "There was an error opening this document. Access denied" (translated from Danish).
The fix by setting this registry entry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
seems to help. But is that a sane solution?

    Hi P.Allan,
By making the registry setting entry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
    Reader will become unsecure.
Please make it back to 00000001 to make Reader more secure.
Also, please let me know the following:
    1) Is the converted PDF got saved?
    2) If yes, please let know the path where it get saved?
    3) If yes, can the converted PDF file be opened in ReaderXI from next time?
    Thanks
    Shakti

  • Message'there was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found'

Using xp home and when I click to download the pdf file, it will give 3 options been 'open'/'save'/?. When I choose the 'open' option, it will give me the above message "there was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found"
owever if I choose to "save" and I will be able to open the file and read it. In this pc its using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 with a patch. It was working fine prior to this sudden occurance of the error.
Strangely I have another pc with the same specification, I was able to choose "open" and be able to read the file. Can anyone help to resolve the issue by using the "open' option instead of "save, then open". Greateful for your prompt response.

Fyi, in addition to my earlier post, the other pc is using Adobe 8.1.1 and no other patch. I was trying to find 8.1.1 version but could not find a trust worthy site to load from. Do you think the error caused by using the 8.1.2 version? Thanks

    thank you,
I downloaded updates and installed manually, had to mess around a bit.
Start the updater from the program first, then install from the download.
Also, moved plugins that are for Premier from common plugins directory,
to the Premier plugins directory. Stopped the error I got launching After Effects
that said to reinstall the plugins.

  • There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found but the file is displayed

    Hi All
I am opening a document for printing using
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader>acrord32.exe "c:\www\website\admin\invoices_out\BFPO_0001.pdf" "hp deskjet 990c"
The invoice opens up but an box appears with the above message
There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found
Any help to stop the above error appearing would be much appreciated as once this is fixed I will be using
    start /b c:\www\acrobat_wrapper\acrowrap.exe /t "c:\www\website\admin\invoices_out\BFPO_0001.pdf" "hp deskjet 990c"
and I can then get on with my work.
Thanks in advance and here's hoping.

    Hi Fiat Lux
Thanks anyway but I have solved it.It wasn't any fault of Acrobar Reader as such. Everytime I run a microsoft remote desktop and access my main PC from my laptop it deletes the default printer status of my printer (on the main PC) and then when I want to run the above command Reader can't find a printer to use until I reinstate it as the default printer.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Adobe CS5 Updates fails !!!  There was an error downloading this update HELP

Adobe CS5 Updates fails !!!  There was an error downloading this update HELP (Windows)

I have the same problem, but I'm on a mac 10.9. I have 2 folders inside the Adobe Patch folder inside the Adobe folder. The items have a bunch of letters and numbers.
I've attempted 2 downloads, each going through almost the whole process and stopping about 90% saying unable to install, fix the problems listed below (there was an error downloading this update, please quit and try again later). When I click on the consumer support for further assistance, it takes me to an Adobe page that says “This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another” .  I have CS4  design premium, CS5 design standard, and Acrobat Professional installed.
    Thanks

  • When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Is there any way to correct this problem?

When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website using Safari, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I save the same PDF file using FireFox it opens up immediately. Is there any way to correct this problem with Safari?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
