DNG Converter Wont work?

oh guys I am tearing my hair out!
I bought a new camera Fuji FinePix S200EXR it was an upgrade from a previouse Fugi FinePix camera.
I use Photoshop CS3 extended.
Thing is, when I  try to open the RAW images, they are displayed as RAF ( Raw Image Format ) and PS wont recognise them.
( didnt have this problem with my older fugi camera which had RAW format )
So I did all of the upgrades to the RAW plugins for PS and it still wont recognise them at all.
I Dowloaded the RAW plugin and installed to my PS plugin Folder and then tried this
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
Still it wont work.. infact I have just gone back to the directory and am there isnt a plugin folder there anymore.
So I got the DNG converter but when I select the folder from and select to convert into the same folder,  it lists the images but says " no images converted" after I press convert...
gggrrr
Any of this ring any bells?
Many thanks!
What am I doing wrong?

This camera model is not yet supported in the latest ACR and DNG releases (5.5). For a list of supported cameras please visit: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html. Thanks!

  • DNG Converter stopped working

I am using the Adobe DNG Convertor to convert my CR2 Canon RAW images to DNG files, then Photoshop Elements to save as a JPEG. I use a MAC. The Adobe DNG converter is version 4.4. (It always worked so, I never messed with it.)
When I open the DNG Converter, it no longer sees the CR2 files in my iPhoto (iMac) library.
I recently did a software upgrade on my iMac. Perhaps that messed it up.
    I have 1.0.4.6 Bridge that I don't use.
If I need to upgrade, what do I upgrade? Should I uninstall the DNG first as it doesn't look like there is an upgrade...just a newer version.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any detail would be appreciated! Thanks.

I don't understand why the DNG converter would just stop working.  Did you get a newer camera?  If the camera you are using is not supported by that version, that could be part of the problem.  I would suggest that you download the most recent version of the DNG converter.  It will be compatible with the most cameras.  Also, I note that there are some compatibility options that need to be set in the newer versions that help to ensure compatibility with your other software.  But you really should be using a more recent version.  There are no "upgrades" to any version of the DNG converter, there are only newer versions as you have observed.  It is in your best interest to always use the most recent version.  It will create DNG files that are compatible with all versions of Camera Raw since version 2.4.

  • Dng Converter not working in Bridge

    Hi
I have CS3 and have already downloaded the latest version of the DNG converter.  When I use the Converter as a separate application, it works fine to convert my RAW files to DNG files.  Recently I discovered the process in Bridge called "Get Photos from Camera" where I can process many steps with one click.  Unfortunately, the part where it is suppose to convert my RAW to DNG files isn't working.  Any ideas why?  Some background info, I recently upgraded from Vista 64bit to Windows 7 64bit.  I uninstalled PS CS3 and then installed it back, and it's working fine except for this one little step.  Do I need to install the DNG converter again, but designate it to put loaded into a different folder so that Bridge recognizes it ?  Would appreciate any support or feedback.  Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

The camera I am using is the Canon 5D MkII.  Raw images from this camera can not be read by my version of Camera Raw V.4.6.  The readable version for CR V4.6 is DNG Converter V5.5.  This is all for my PS CS3.
I discovered this Bridge process in a Scott Kelby Book, for CS3, called "Get Photos for Camera".  He specifically goes thru each step, and the second step is the DNG Conversion process.  It worked for him.  It should work for me.
Ah, but did he do it for images from a 2009 camera with a 2007 version of PS?

  • Latest DNG converter not working in command-line mode

Today I downloaded Adobe's latest DNG converter. It is failing with both .NEF and .CR2 files when run in command-line mode. It does appear to work in GUI mode. The switches+arguments I've used for my tests are:
    -u -e -p1 filename.CR2
    (or filename.NEF)
With an older (CS2) version of the converter, the above arguments produce a .DNG output file as expected (with .CR2 files; I didn't try it with D3 .NEF files; surely that older version doesn't support the D3's format).
With the very latest version, running the program with the above command produces no output. There's no error message.
The 'readme' file that comes with the converter doesn't include any information about command-line usage, but I did find a PDF file covering this (adobe.com/products/dng/pdfs/dng_commandline.pdf). The switches+arguments shown in the PDF file appear to be exactly the ones I used in the past.
I'm sure I'll need to use the most recent version to convert D3 RAW files. Is there something wrong with how I'm specifying its command-line switches/arguments?

It struck me silly that I've been running tests with v.3.3 when 5.2 is the latest, so I downloaded it. The setup "wizard"...hmm, why is it a "wizard"? It provides no choice of installation path. I didn't realize this because immediately after I'd launched it, I knocked something onto the floor, reached down to pick it up ... and looked back up just in time to see the "wizard" complete the installation...but where, I didn't know. It didn't display any information about where it had installed the app. Adventures In Discoverability. :) I hunted around on the hard drive until I found it (C:\Program Files\Adobe -- well, at least you can launch it if you think to look for it in the 'Start' menu). So ... that needs a bit of work. Anyway, I copied the app into a directory of my choice -- one that's in my system's %PATH%, replacing spaces in the name with underscores. It works fine in that directory -- no problem with the name-change as far as I can tell. Now back to the fun stuff...
This version doesn't seem to require a fully qualified path to the input file or to the output directory when "-d" is used. That's an improvement. IOW, this worked:
    converter -p1 -d DNG filename
where "converter" is the program's name, "DNG" is the name of a subdirectory of the directory where I'm running the test, and "filename" is the name of a RAW file in that directory.
The program still doesn't know how to create a directory (or ask about creating one if it doesn't exist). Fails silently if "-d" is used and the specified directory doesn't exist. But at least this version returns an exit code of 1 due to the failure -- better than returning 0.
Still doesn't understand wildcards. Hope done sprang eternal there for a moment, but oh well. Back to "for" loops...
Still fails silently, returning exit code 0 (oops), if a nonsensical command-line is used (e.g., using "-c" as the only argument).
Hey, how about a truly silly command-line error -- a command line including both "-c" and "-u". What happens? It "consumes" the first of the two mutually exclusive switches, ignoring the second -- you get a compressed DNG file. Swap the order of the switches, and you get an uncompressed file. (I'd vote for a syntax-error message in that case, m'self.)
Interestingly strange little program...If I run it from the command line, it drops back to the command line immediately after I press ENTER. That makes it appear to have failed. But it hasn't -- it's running in the background, and a few seconds later the DNG file is created. But, if I run it from within a batch file, it does NOT return control to me until it has completed writing the output file. Wonder what's up with that.
    Fun stuff. :)

  • DNG converter don't work for some RW2-files

    Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In  some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works  for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made  10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only  thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are  10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the  pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
    Thanks
    pittip
sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

I don't know anything at all about your file format, but it sounds as if there is an option to create compressed raw files.  I know Canon has this option.  It may be that somehow you used this compressed option, assuming that there is one, and it may be that the DNG converter does not support the compressed raw format.  If not, maybe someone else will have a better answer.

  • Preferences Change in DNG Converter 4.6 Doesn't Persist

I am using DNG Converter v4.6.0.30 on a Mac running OS X 10.6.2 and I'm noticing that preference changes do not persist in the next session.  I'm trying to change "embed original RAW file" and the next time I run the program, the setting is unchecked.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program (moving the preference file to a difference location).  After reinstalling the application, there is no preference file in the ~/library/preferences folder.
I checked the contents of the com.adobe.DNGConverter.plist file and it only contained items pertaining to Default Folder X (for example, one of the items was DefaultFolderX:NSNavOpenPanel:column.width).  I relaunched DNG Converter and the preference file was created, but it only contained one item - bplist00—_&NSNavBrowserPreferedColumnContentWidth#@g@.  I reopened DNG Converter and selected "embed original RAW file" and then closed the application.  I checked the preference file and it still did not have anything pertaining to "embed original RAW file."
How can I get DNG Converter to "remember" the preferences I selected?
    Thanks,
    Rocky

You do need ACR 8.4 for the A5000.   I would buy Elements from Adobe not the Mac app store so upgrades work better.
The DNG Converter should work, though.  You need to single-click on the folder with the raw files in it, rather than open it to reveal the raw files.  They are grayed out because the DNGC needs to work with a FOLDER not a file, so if you can see the files, then you’ve clicked down into the folder and go back up one, and just select the folder name.

  • DNG converter 8.6 - can't select pictures from sony a5000?

First of, have to say I'm a complete newbie to photoshop elements. As in, just purchased it today.
I just downloaded photoshop elements 12 from the mac app store and I'm on OS 10.9.4.
I have read that I can't open my sony a5000 raw files in elements 12 as the camera raw plug in is only up to 8.3. So I looked at downloading DNG converter to read my raw files. It says version 8.4 supports my camera so I downloaded it but when I go to select the files in my folder all the photos are "greyed out". I thought maybe if I download version 8.6 then it should work but same problem. Honestly really really frustrated I can't open the files in elements 12 in the first place and now after downloading a converter and still not working makes me want to just uninstall this all together.
Can someone please help me figure out why I can't open my files in DNG converter despite the version saying it supports my camera??
    Thanks

  • Dng convertere stopped working

When i first downloaded dng converter it worked fine. After about a month it stopped working.Instead of the raw file showing up as abox in which 'dng' was written, psd box showd up instead and when clicking on this it opens up the raw file editor but then when try ing to save the image i psd there is no jpeg in the dropdown box to save it as. There is only psd ,jiff and some others. There was a jpeg choice when i first downloaded and the dng box. So what happened.?? I have tried several times downloading again but still same problem. Checking somewhere on the comp it said 'control host stopped working. Dont uninstall in case it starts to work again. this was a few months ago that it stopped working. Also it seems there is not 1raw and 1 jpeg file...sometimes ther are 3 or 4 raw files as psd and only one jpeg. Hope that clear.Thanks.

I received a link from a photo forum..(could not copy and paste it) Adobe Creative Cloud.PSCC/ In depth, Digital Negative DNG.
He said he downloaded this and could convert raw images saving as jpeg or jiff etc. I did this in August last year and it worked exactly as he said. I dont remember where the files where the files i downloaded fom my camera were ending up. Must have been PICTURES IN LIBRARIES WHICH COMES WITH WINDOWS 7. This I have had about 1 yr. When i downloaded the adobe dng the raw files then appeared as a box with dng printed on it. This with jpeg image which can be seen next to the box dng. Clicking on the dng box then came up in pse with the RAW file editor. I edited the image and clicked on save image at the bottom . This then came up in pse screen and i clicked on FILE ----SAVE AS---Then there was a drop down box with lists of types to choose from jpeg was available. clicking on this I could then see the edited image. Now this doesnt exist. But there is no longer the box with 'DNG' printed on it. This probably still leaves you just as much in the dark as I am. I dont really understand anyway how this works, but it worked the first downloading. In anycase Windows photo gallery was not working ,no images were coming up in that place. Question is ...what should happen when you download dng converter. The RAW file ......what should it look like.??
My photos are now going into windows library . There is no DNG converter to choose from. There is a list, including pse. windows view finder ,Adobe Reader and several others,If you can give me an idea what I should see if dng has been downloaded 'properly'. But it was installed thru Wizard  and i completed this to finish so ... cant see how it has not been downloaded correctly. Anyway it did work in August and came up in pse. ...so it does seem to work in adobe pse. It is afterall meant to work in Adobe photoshop inst it? It is an Adobe product ....the dng i mean. As you said there seems to be something else that's involved as to why not functioning.

  • Where is DNG converter 8.6?

I understand that the Adobe DNG converter works on raw images in file folders. What I need to know is how to find and start the program. I searched all over but only found ACR 8.6 RC. Is the DNG converter part of that install package?  I installed ACR 8.6 RC. Now Bridge uses that when opening a raw file in ACR, but I cannot see that DNG converter was installed, too. How do I get DNG converter to work? Thanks, Ken

It's at the bottom of the following link:
Download Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 Beta - Adobe Labs
The link says Camera Raw, but the last little late to the bottom of the screen is for the DNG converter. When you're looking for release candidates and other new technologies, Adobe Labs is what you should look.  Incidentally, all versions of the DNG converter work on raw files in folders. What is a you are referring to specifically?

  • Reconvert with new DNG Converter?

If I converted a bunch of Canon 7D CR2 files to DNG using DNG Converter 5.5, should I reconvert from the original raw file with 5.6? What is different about the files, since the raw data should remain unchanged?
I thought the advantage of using raw/DNG was that the file itself stayed intact and that, as raw processing algorithms get better over time, the data could be "crunched" in different ways to make the image better. I am getting a sense now that some of my DNG files created using older versions of the DNG Converter (I have been using DNG for several years now) are somehow inferior to those created using the latest version of the converter.
Any information on this issue is greatly appreciated!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I do have the original CR2s, but say I had several DNG files created with 5.5 and then converted them with 5.6; since it is DNG to DNG, the original (inferior) 5.5 metadata is retained. This makes me feel like I have permanently "tainted" files because they were created with 5.5 (though I still have the original CR2s and could reconvert from the originals) and I am forever stuck with what I have
The current DNG converter does work this way, i.e. it does not replace that metadata (see the thread from Barry Pearson, requesting an option for replacing the metadata). Thus you would stuck with the incorrect metadata if you had not kept the CR2s.
Note, that there is no disadvantage of startiing out from the CR2, because the adjustments saved in the DNG file are not of much use anyway because of the changes. For example the color information has changed; I don't know how big the changes are, but they may require the readjustment of saturation and perhaps even WB. If you have ISO 100 shots (or 125, 250, 500, 1000 - but you should not use franctional ISOs with raw), then the image will become brighter after the new conversion, thus your Exposure, Fill, Brightness, Recovery settings may have to be changed.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Will I get lower quality images from 5.5 DNGs than 5.6 DNGs?
Yes, but this is a speciality of the too quick and dirty support of the 7D in 5.5, i.e. this is not a generic consideration.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Should I be more concerned about getting the latest ACR/LR and not worry so much about the DNG Converter version that was used to convert to DNG?
I have no idea if ACR 5.6 has any functional enhancements compared to 5.5. However, the correct support of 7D raw files in DNG format does not require 5.6 of ACR but of the DNG converter.
For example one of the problems with the preliminary support is the maze-like appearance on smooth surfaces in low ISO shots. The reason is a hardware fault (in cleartext: Canon created crap). This problem can be countered at least partly (I don't know if it goes away totally) with adding a certain metadata to instruct the raw processor to apply a somewhat different processing than normally. This is nothing new, even much older ACR versions do that - if the DNG converter inserted this information.
(The vertical banding in the very shadows of ISO 100 to 400 does not change, like http://www.panopeeper.com/Canon/Canon7D_Banding_ISO00100_Jehuty_DPR_0014.JPG)
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I am only nervous because I do not keep the original CR2s long term, only the DNG. I want to make sure that the DNGs I have created with 5.5 are not in some way inferior in quality before I delete the CR2s. If there is inferior metadata in the 5.5 DNGs, will using the latest version of ACR when it comes out "clean out" this bad metadata in favor of better processing methods, or is the only way to "clean out" the metadata to convert to DNG with the official release of the 5.6 DNG Converter?
As you have no way of making sure, that the conversion is perfect, it is foolish to delete the original, i.e. the CR2; the rest is speculation.
However, you should not discount the possibility, that another raw processor or another DNG converter (or a later version of Adobe's DNG converter) can make a better processing of the CR2 or a better conversion in DNG.
