DNG file modification date not changed by writing metadata?

I use LR 2.7 on Windows XP.   To my surprise, I just noticed that writing metadata updates (e.g., new keywords) from LR to the DNG files does NOT appear to update the file modification date, which suggests obvious issues for backup strategies (yes, I understand that a changed modification date introduces other backup issues).   I have verfifed that the metatdata does indeed change in the DNG files, so I am mystified.   Can someone shed some light on this?   Thanks.

Yes, I explicitely invoke "save metadata to file".   Furthemore, I have checked the behavior by (a) modifying DNGs in LR; (b) saving the metatdata to the DNG; (c) creating a new LR catalog and importing the revised DNGs.    The metadata changes do show up in the re-imported DNGs (and the metadata field "Metadata Date" correctly shows the recent change).  Morevover, the file sizes do change (wth the metadata changes) even though the modification dates shown in windows explorer do not change.
However, I just redid the experiment to double check, and discovered an important clue - the mysterious behavior occurs when the DNG files are on a NAS device (in particular a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.   To summarize:
     - When the DNG files are on a local hard drive, the file modification dates change as expected
     - When the DNG files are non local (i.e., on the network but on a NAS device), the file modification dates do not change even though the file sizes do change;
What's more, I see the same behavior when accessing the DNGs via Adobe Bridge (CS5) - i.e., if I change the metadata, I'm asked if I want to apply the metadata changes to the DNG, and I say yes (and confirm by looking via Bridge at a copy of the changed file).   On a local disk, the file modificaiton dates change (as do the modification date displayed in Bridge), but if the files are on the NAS, the modification dates do not.
Any additional thoughts?

  • What would change a file modification date into the future?

Of late, I've been noticing that [apparantly random] files that have NOT be accessed are showing a modification date somewhere in the future.
I couldn't figure out why zip was adding files I hadn't touched to an archive of files changed since a certain date.  Looked in Finder, and they have dates from 1 to 20 some years into the future, in the modification column, and sometimes, no creation date.
Also, files deep in the contents of some apps are losing me as an owner, leading zip to tell me "access denied".
Any thoughts as to what's going on?  Other than the paranoid; there's some evil virus, whatever, running amok.

  • Create a DNG file that does not show changes when viewed by others

I am adjusting my RAW Images in Adobe Lightroom and want to export them as DNG without betraying the evidence of my post production efforts- is there a way to save an altered file as a DNG without showing the client which changes I have made when they open and review the files in CS3 (bridge/camera raw)?

    > is there a way to save an altered file as a DNG without showing the client which changes I have made when they open and review the files in CS3 (bridge/camera raw)?
The raw data itself is not affected by the adjustments, only the metadata. This means, that the adjustments you made are recorded in the DNG file in XMP format, which is quite clear-text, like
    > +1.0
       25
       0
       False
       Custom
         0, 0
         22, 30
         51, 68
         128, 128
         206, 149
         255, 255
As this can be seen by anyone, who knows where and what for to look, you need to have ACR record the adjustments in XMP sidecar files (which is a better way anyway, you can archive the original file and the adjustments separate).

  • Run Batch OCR Without Changing File Modification Date

I'm running Acrobat X Pro (as part of CS6) and would like to batch OCR all of the PDFs on my PC (probably over 1,000 files) without changing the "modify" date of the files (otherwise they will all change to the date of the OCR, which will make it more difficult to find files when sorting by date because they'll all come up as the same date).  Is there a way to do this?
If I've posted this in the wrong place, please tell me where to post it.
    Thanks!

No. The modification date is a system function and requires access to the file info in the file directory to change, not something that programs normally do. There are programs that allow changing the dates, or used to be anyway. All I know to do is to create a text file with a directory of the PDF files, then go back and change the dates back to those dates. It has been a while since I have played with file dates, but it might be able to be automated (though probably with a fair amount of programming skill).

  • Finder modification dates not working

Why is it that after all this time and all the updates to OSX, it still cannot update the dates on newly saved files correctly?
When I do a find and replace across multiple files with BBEdit and they are auto-saved, the Finder does not update the modification dates. If I set the window to 'sort by date' all the modified files should have today's date and float to the top - but they don't.
I know about 'nudge'- http://www.brockerhoff.net/nudge/index.html thanks to BareBones support, but this really should not be necessary.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I would suggest a one-line Applescript:
tell application "Finder" to update folder (folder of the front window as string)
Click here to launch Script Editor.
Paste the script in the Script Editor and press the "Run" button. The front window will update. You can enable the Applescript Menu* for quick access, and put the script in the "Finder folder so it is always in front when Finder is in focus.
This may be a bug in BBEdit, I haven't seen the problem in at least a year.
    * To enable the Applescript Menu, open the application at
    /Applications/AppleScript/AppleScript\ Utility.app
and select "Show Script Menu". Any application that is in front has its own script menu so it is always changing. You can create a folder for the frontmost application by clicking the menu icon, then selecting "Open Scripts Folder", then "Open __ Scripts Folder". A new empty window will appear ready for you to populate with Applescripts.

  • Login.keychain modification time not changing?!?

When login.keychain is changed by Keychain Access (or anything else, as far as I can tell), the modification time of the file is not changed. I can see the length of the file change, but the mtime does not. As I a consequence, I don't believe Time Machine has backed up any of the changes I have made for several months. Double-plus ungood. Given last modification date I have on the file (March 3rd), I'd have to guess it is a change that came in with 10.7.4.
    Any ideas?

  • How to capture file modification date and time over the web

    HI!
I am creating a web based application and I am using webutil package for al lot of my work being that I ma working with renamin, deleting and uploading files for a users machine to the database. There is one functionality thing that I have to do in this application that webutil does not take care of and that is capturing the modification date and time from a file on the users machine. Please help me capture the date and time of a file on the users machine.
    Thanks!

Since webutil allows you to write file on client PC directory, then you first create a directive file, then host that directive file. the directive file content is just the command lines when you manually do it on PC.

  • Smbfs file modified date not updating

When I save a file from Photoshop CS3 to an SMB share (where I have terabytes of images) it appears the Modified Date does not change after I edit. This makes it impossible to work my downstream processes which rely on looking for modified image since a certain date.
I checked against TextEdit (seems to rewrite the file which gets a new create and modified date) and TextMate where the modified date is correctly set. Also the unix touch command works fine.
Any ideas how to ensure that a file saved from Photoshop CS3 will correctly set the Modified Date on an SMB share?

Usually the changes are made to the contents of the domain.sites2 folder and not the actual folder itself. As long as you edit, save and publish, the next time you open iWeb you'll see the latest version. However, be sure to backup the Domain.sites2 package frequently.

How do you mean. using the DTM or S, on backup it produces a file to save. Please describe exactly what you are doing; we'll get there.

  • Folder modification dates spontaneously changing

I discovered that a limited batch of folders on several different hard drives had all taken on the same modification date, which was several days ago. It is truly maddening because I keep the contents of may enclosing folders sorted by modification date for critical reasons, and now these spontaneously changed folders are far out of order.
To make it more maddening, I'm using a program designed to allow changing of the modification dates, which has been working fine on most of them, to change the dates to the same as the latest date of a folder's enclosed contents, but one of them keeps changing it's modification date to right now if I merely twirl down its "carrot" or viewing arrow in list view!
I've been doing this a long time and have never encountered anything quite as mysterious or frustrating. Does anybody have any idea what could have caused this?
LATE NOTE: I had downloaded and run the Onyx program to fix an issue that OpenPGP had with contextual menus not showing up. Their page recommended running the Automation pane of  Onyx as the solution. I just found out that I ran that on the same date as the folder modification date changes. Could it be the culprit, and if so, how and why?

Thanks, Eric. I still don't understand why, though, some of those folders became something I'd never seen before: folders that would change their modification date even if the "carrot" were twirled down. It's sure bizarre behavior. And in the middle of trying to solve that, suddenly my two external hard drives became inexplicably read-only. Even though the "Info" window showed that I had read/write access, above the permissions section it said the disk was read only, and even when unlocking the permissions lock, it all was greyed out.
I found a strange suggestion in this discussion group to use DiskUtility to do nothing but verify those drives. I did—and suddenly they were all correct in the permissions department. I swear. I've never seen anything remotely like any of this.
I'm ready to order a custom tinfoil hat for my Mac.

  • File Modification Date problems

We are running Appleshare 10.4.11 on an Xserve box. We have a problem in that every time a word document is opened, the modification date is updated on the file. When we ran Appleshare 10.2.x this did not happen and it enabled us to see at a glance how old a file really is.
I am not sure where to start in troubleshooting this issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,

  • Schedule line : delivery date not changes

    Dear Gurus,
When I change delivery date change in delivery documents and sales documents, picking date, pricing date, etc.. changes, but in sales document, schedule line's delivery date does not changes.
Please help me to change the same and kindly tell me, will it make any problem.
    fyi..
If I have not created delivery for the respective sales document, then I can able to change the delivery date in the schedule line(sales document).
I'm just a new born in this area so please feed me...

    Hi Viswanath,
When you change delivery date change in delivery documents and sales documents, picking date, pricing date, etc.. changes, but in sales document, schedule line's delivery date does not changes.
This is because the system calculates the dates based on avaliabiltiy check and it picks data from material master as well, based on purchasing processing time, GR processing time, loading time ..etc and it will conclude accordingly.
Its like system will do backward schdeuling and establishes material avaliabilty date.

  • Problem importing to mp3_ file name will not change

I have experienced this problem multiple times before and still can't find the solution.
Every-time I Import a Cd to "MP3" a weird file name is created. When I located the mp3 after import then try to rename it. I notice that the weird file name is still saved and appears always on top of the player (quicktime)
how do i fix this bug?

    Steve--
Do you have the "save as a copy" checkbox checked in your "save as" dialog box? If that is checked, you save a file with the new name and keep your working filename the same. If it is not checked, you save a file with the new name and the open document filename does not change.
If you're talking about changing the name of the file in the finder after the save, you're right. The open Photoshop document will not know that the filename has changed since the save. If you hit save, it will create a new file with the old name.

  • Change Color in Spcolor File but Color Not Changed in Site - SP 2013

I have changed the color in the spcolor file that is associated with the theme selected for my site, but when I save it and upload it to the site again, the color does not change on the site. Is there another way colors can be changed that would override
    the spcolor file?

    Hi Tracey,
Please download the orginal spcolor file for particular composed look/theme from that site collection themem gallery, then change the color value with Notepad application, then upload it back to theme gallery to overrride spcolor file, check out and check
in this file, then see if the custom color could be changed for that particular composed look for your site, please try this in a test site collection firstly.
Also you can try creating a new custom composed look with custom spcolor for your site per the following articles, see if it could work.
