DNG Files Appearing as Icon not Thumbnail in Bridge CS3

Hi
If I save a Camera Raw manipulated image as a COMPRESSED (LOSSLESS) DNG file it appears back in CS3 Bridge as a DNG Icon and not as a thumbnail.
Is there a reason for this and can I get the saved file to appear as a thumbnail.
Many thanks

Bridge 2.x, the one that comes with CS3, is easily the worst piece of software ever released by Adobe or any other major company, in my view.  It should have been fixed for free, but it wasn't.
Cache management is extremely poor in Bridge CS3.  Purge the Cache for the offending folders through the Tools menu in Bridge.  DO NOT use the global purge command in Bridge preferences.
Fortunately, Bridge 3.x in CS4 is much, much better.

    What can I do ?

    Hi Yammer.
First thanks a lot for taking your time to help me. I am really happy about it!
    I will try to answer:
    1)
I meant by having the Camera Raw.8bi placed in BOTH "C:\Programmer\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS5\Plug-Ins" and in C:\Programmer\Fælles filer\Adobe Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" the ACR will be found in two versions - or rather in two places (I know the former shouldn't be, but it solved my preview problem).
    2)
YES - I do have tried twice starting the Adobe Bridge holding down the Ctrl-key and ticking the two (the third was greyed out but ticked anyway) and with no help.
    3)
I have tried to do the *.8bi search you suggested, and this gives me the following dump - absolutely with a few more entries than yours. Some are like doubled.
Do you think I can just delete these?
    Kind regards, Jan

  • DNG file types don't show thumbnails or previews

I am having trouble with Adobe Bridge CS5 for Mac OSX.  Up until last week it was working fine.  I haven't made any changes to my computer or my camera or anything like that.  But now .DNG files won't show their thumbnail or preview.  I only see the icon for the file type in the thumbnail list, and then when I click on the thumbnail, I just see a bigger version of the file type icon in the preview window.  However, JPEGs show up just fine.
I've searched through this forum and tried:
    - Resetting the Workspace
    - Resetting Bridge to default (Opening it with the Option key pressed)
    - Purging the cache
    - Checking that Camera Raw is properly installed (I have 6.7)
    - Updating DNG Converter to 8.3
But no luck yet.  Is this a new issue or something?

What about your old DNG photos which used to display properly? Can you still see those okay?
Have you set the Compatibility preference in DNG Converter to Camera Raw 6.6 and later?
Can you confirm that you have only one copy of Camera Raw 6.7 installed, and no other versions in alternative File Formats folders?
You could also try ACR 6.7.1:

  • NEF Thumbnails not displaying in Bridge CS3

I decided to dip my toe into RAW images. However unlike jpegs and tiffs the NEF thumbnails are not rendering in Bridge CS3. However when I double-click on an unrendered thumbnail it does open normally. As seeing thumbnails would be very helpful I decided to do a software update to see if this would cure the problem. During the install process I got the following message - Installation Incomplete - The Updater is unable to locate the product to be updated - Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 Update failed to install.
Outcome - NEF thumbnails still not rendering.  By the way my NEF images were produced on a Nikon D60.
Help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Victor Patterson, Ireland

  • Some workstations not allowing Adobe Bridge CS3 application launch

    Hi all.
I'm pretty new at helping manage a MIDI/art lab at a high school campus (not new to Macs, but new to this issue).
We have a student login for an art class where students should have complete access to the Adobe CS3 suite of applications. The account is logging in on a server, running apps on the local hard drives, and an entire class of students all log in at once. We've tried to keep all the iMacs current in terms of Adobe updates and other software updates.
The problem is this: there are four iMacs which - in spite of all updates being equal, and the fact that all users are logging into a network account (thus all having the same set of rules, permissions, and restrictions) - fail to allow students to use Adobe Bridge. At these four stations, launching Bridge gets this error:
    +*The Application "Bridge CS3" is not allowed.*+
+"Bridge CS3"is not on the approved list of applications. Contact the person who set up your account for more information.+
We've tried several things, including running Adobe updater (again), Apple software update, and resetting/trashing Bridge's prefs.
Again, every user should be experiencing the same permissions and restrictions, and this issue seems to be tied to hardware as it only applies on four of the iMacs. Logging in as an administrator or a local account with full permission allows clear access to Bridge. However, we need the Art Class account to work on all our stations as students use Bridge regularly for class.
Any input and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
(By the way, these are Intel iMacs running, I would presume, Snow Leopard. The model and OS info shown below are my machine, not the lab stations.)

Curt Y. Thank you for your answer.
It was only Bridge who was crashing. It failed to load and Windows was giving an error message.
I tried your suggestion, and resetting all options in the reset window it now loads. It was as simple as that.

try resetting your preferences and/or purging your thumbnails cache by holding Ctrl right after you launch Bridge(you have to be fast, you'll get a dialog box if you succeeded)

After processing a camera raw file using the Camera Raw plug-in, an icon does not appera in the image thumbnail in Bridge. Using raw plug-in created april 19 2007 in windows vista. The same CS2 program does create the icon on another computer using Windoes XP. Jim

Please check your top toolbar left side, you should see a small arrow icon to expend the toolbar, located near the Tools option
(Ignore the location side in the sample picture, it should be the opposite for your language )

  • I have just downloaded camera Raw 8.8 to my computer that runs Photoshop CS6 for my Canon 7D Mark II.  CR2 files appear as Icons instead of thumbnails.  Does anyone know a fix

Is there a way for CR2 files that are downloaded to Bridge running CS6 to appear as thumbnails rather than Icons in Bridge

You don't download anything "into Bridge".  Bridge is a just a File Browser, you put your image files wherever you want and you point Bridge to whatever folder you put your raw CR2s in.

  • DNG files exported from LR4 not showing changes made when opened in PSE10?

I have LR4, and once I make some develop changes I've been exporting the files I want to use as DNG.  I then open them in PSE10 to make final edits.  It's been working fine, actually I had an older version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer.  So when I opened in PSE it would ask if I wanted to conver to compatible version to edit in camera raw.  I always said no b/c I didn't need to do anymore raw edits.  Now that I have installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new ACR version I guess.  When I open the DNGs to edit now I no longer get this error message, but it's showing my contrast, etc. as a standard raw setting instead of the changes I made in LR.  Some are showing....like vibrance, but "recovery" which I know is "highlights" in LR, and other things are not showing correctly.  I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings that it's using when I open the file, or have to go through them again.  I'm sure there's something I'm missing but can't figure it out.  Thanks for any help!

I quite simply did not comment on the issue of "it is supposed to be better to keep DNG files as opposed to NEF files now, right?"
The issue you raised in your original post, and the issue of choosing DNG versus NEF, are completely separate and independent.
The issue of transferring photos to PSE would cause the exact same problems in your case whether or not you use DNG or NEF.
On the issue of converting photos from NEF to DNG, there are advantages and disadvantages, some people do and some people don't. If you'd like to know more, I suggest you search this forum, there are plenty of discussions on this topic.

  • .idea & .psdx file icons not supported in Bridge?

I was wondering when bridge would support .idea & .psdx file icons.  I use bridge to browse my files and it would make life easier to have the icons supported.  You would thing something like that would have been thought of.  Does anyone know if that is something that is being worked on?  I was hoping it would have been supported in the newest version of bridge cc, but it's not.

I was hoping it would have been supported in the newest version of bridge cc, but it'snot.
Hoping alone is almost never enough...
Try to let your wish for this support know to Adobe and file a Feature request for it. Without any guarantee for success because very little has changed over the years in Bridge but still much better then hoping they can read your mind
The "Share an idea" field is the best way to try and maybe more people also jump in with this request:

  • Raw thumbnails will not display in Bridge CS3

I am using Bridge CS3 and Photoshop Elements 7 (the OS is Vista).  I can open raw files OK via Bridge, and PSE will launch correctly as well, but the thumbnails in Bridge are only the file icons for the raw files, never images.  .jpg files are fine.  I have loaded the latest converter, but the problem in Bridge continues.  Any suggestions?

I  am using CS4 and had the same problem in Windows 7. I ran a check for  update, ran the update, opened Bridge and still got icons...then I  refreshed and all is working fine now, I can see my CR.2 files.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • RAW will not open in Bridge CS3

I cannot open a RAW file in Bridge CS3--there is no "open RAW.." in the menus, the shortcuts do not work. I will only open RAWs in PSCS3. I have the Extended version.
I have tried reseeting the settings in both Bridge and PS. Makes no difference.
Any help would be very appreciated!

Have you tried a completely clean install from scratch--OS + CS3?
That will work for sure, but it means starting over with your computer OS install from scratch--a completely clean full format of your disk before starting.
There is obviously something on there that conflicts with it now. The same thing happened to a guy I work with. He tried for two weeks. I had the same problem on one of my machines. I simply started from zero, and so did he. Works perfectly. On my other machine it went right on without a hitch along with the other twenty or so apps that were already on there! Go figure.
Look at it this way, if you want ACR 4 in Bridge, starting over will probably take about one tenth the time you've spent trying to troubleshoot it!

  • How do I reverse the order in which files appear in Icon View option?

I took a lot of pictures on a trip recently, which I have uploaded to a folder in Finder. When I click on View Options and then Keep Arranged by Date Created, they get rearranged so that the most recent appears at the top, and the first ones taken are at the bottom. How can I reverse this order, so that they appear in chronological order?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    There might be another way.
There are utilities which can batch-rename files, including options that sort by date, begin all the resulting filenames with a common prefix, and then add a sequential "padded" filename suffix. If you then display the resulting collection of files in alphabetical order (as in Finder's Arrange by Name in icon view), they should be sorted chronologically.
I haven't tried any of these, but the site for [A Better Finder Rename|http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html], shareware, states:
"A Better Finder Rename knows how to extract EXIF shooting date and time information from digital camera images and exploit them in creating sequence numbers or adding time and date information to the file name. "
There may be suitable freeware alternatives -search for *file renamer* in [Version Tracker|http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx>.

  • .DNG files are damaged, can not open. Now what?

I have many files I had converted to .DNG from Nikon .NEF some time ago. When I try to open them now Photoshop says they are damaged. I have tried opening them in other programs (Mac Preview, Graphic Converter) but no luck. Is there anything I can do? I do not have original Nikon .NEF files any more.

If you are using Windows, you should know that Windows keeps "Shadow copies" of files.
The best way to access them is by using "Shadow Explorer" free of charge.
This only applies to files kept on your C or D drives, not SD cards or external drives.
You may even find the old NEFs if you are allowed to go back far enough.
    ShadowExplorer.com - About
For Macs, it would be Time Machine.
    Hope that helps,
    Gene
