Dng. files from LR to PS CC ok Can't open in Camera Raw?

I have LR 5.7 and can edit my dng. files in PS CC but I can only get Camera Filter not full camera raw w/ all the tools. I am a PC user, BTW.
How do I open full Camera raw for a dng. file?
Thanks, very frustrated.
Chris

Because it was edited in lightroom first, photoshop knows enough to bypass camera raw since the controls are identical. If you open the dng file using the normal way like any other format, then it would open in camera raw first.
Keep in mind if you already did any editing in lightroom, those edits needs to be saved to that dng file before you can do the above otherwise camera raw and photoshop will not see the edits you did.
To save a file in lightroom select the file in the library and use ctrl-s to save.
If you do the above, lightroom will not automatically see the changes done in camera raw or photoshop. In library view there will be an icon in the thumbnails corner. This appears when changes to the metadata do not match that of lightroom's database. Clicking the icon should provide a dialog box asking if you want to update lightroom or leave it unchanged.
If you do a folder full, you can sync that folder to update all of them. Keep in mind syncing overwrites your changes in lightroom so make sure that is what you want to do.
I personally try to make it a habit to save all the images from lightroom, just so I don't get any surprises when syncing. There is an icon in the corner of those that need saving.

  • Can't open my camera raw files in CS6 - using Nikon D7100

I checked for an update as the program suggested and am running Camera Raw 8.4 - also checked and the D7100 is supposed to be compatible with that!
    HELP!!

Is 8.4 definitely installed OK?  (Help > About plug-in > Camera RAW)
Actually, the D7100 only needs ACR 7.4
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Have you tried different NEF files?  Have these NEF files been processed in the app supplied with the camera by Nikon?  Can you test ACR by taking a RAW shot and opening it in ACR?
I ask because we have seen quite a few instances of corrupt NEF files on this forum.

  • Transferred backup file from old to new laptop but can't open backup file in new iTunes

    Hi
I've purchased the new iPhone 5, however, it won't allow me to backup from my iTunes from my old laptop (where my 4S's backup was) because iTunes 10.7 can't operate on OSX 10.5.8. So I transferred the backup file onto my new macbook air. When I plugged my new phone into the laptop and opened up iTunes, where can I find the option to set up my phone according to the backup that I transferred to the new macbook?
    Thanks!

  • Can I open Adobe Camera Raw from LR?

I use LR 3.4.1 as my image browser but occasionaly would like to edit images using ACR as well as Photoshop.  At the moment I have to go to "Edit in Photoshop ..." then switch to ACR via Bridge but would like to go straight to ACR without opening PS or bridge first.  Is this possible?  I know if open an image from finder it will automatically open in ACR first then PS, then have to import to LR but wondered if there was a shortcut from Lightroom.

I have been evaluating LR as an adjunct to Photoshop (or maybe the other way around!) and was amazed to see that an .nef opened in LR, developed and saved with, I assume, a sidecar, nevertheless does not allow that same file opened in ACR, to access that xml file as at least a choice. I was going to ask why, or how to do it, when I discovered this thread.
The path to doing so is convoluted but doable. Once you open in ACR from the Smart Object file, one needs to copy the settings save them and then when opening another nef in ACR without going to LR, one then loads those settings.
Makes for a big file of short time sidecars, unfortunately.
I assume the reverse is also true: Opening an nef in LR that has an ACR side car, that sidecar is ignored. Hafta try.
Why do I do this, you ask? The UI is far better in ACR than in LR. That bittsy side panel of tweaks is fussy and is similar to DXO in layout. I don't like theirs either. But lightroom does have it's stregths, and that is the data base.
Ok, I opened an nef already possessing a sidecar from ACR and LR did use it. So why not the other way around, or am I missing something?

  • NEF files not opening in camera raw in CS5

I have lightroom 3.2 and photoshp CS5 extended
I am running if 64 bit in Windows 7
If I try to open a .nef file from lightroom usinf crtl-e it does not open in the raw editor.  it goes directly to what I would call the jpeg editor.
Now can I get my .nef files to open from lightroom into CS5?
If I open the .nef file from bridge it opens in camera raw just fine, or if I open it from windows explorer it opens in camera raw.
    Help! this is very frustrating!!
    Thanks in advance.

If LR is 3.2 and ACR is 6.2 (or they are otherwise synchronized to an older or newer version) then LR will tell PS to use ACR behind the scenes to render the file on the way into PS w/o having to go to an intermediate file and w/o seeing the ACR interface.  LR does not render anything, ACR does, but you don't see it, except maybe a progress bar if it takes too long.
The adjustments in LR are the same as ACR so there's no need to show the ACR interface, right?  When LR and PS are being used together, LR is meant to be the keeper of the adjustments in its database that ACR knows nothing about.  If the ACR UI was visible and you tweaked something in ACR after coming out of LR it wouldn't get stored back into the LR database unless you synchronized the folder, later, and things would be a confusing mess.
Alternatively, if the LR and ACR version's aren't synced up, then LR may indeed render a TIF or PSD for PS to open, but again w/o ACR doing anything.  So in no circumstance of LR-PS integration should you see the ACR plug-in when you tell LR to open into PS.

  • .psd files dose not open with Camera Raw

I noticed that if you have a ".psd" file  even if it is Flatten, it will not open in camera raw. I can easily save it to a Tiff or other formats and open it in camera raw, but I wonder why .psd file dose not open in camera raw
    Thanks

Yes, Trevor, you can indeed opened a non-layered PSD in Adobe Camera Raw—at least in perpetual-license CS6 and earlier, I don't know about the Cash Cow subscription version 14.x which I'm not going anywhere near.
What you cannot do is open a PSD in Camera Raw by double clicking on it.  You just have to go through  File > Open menu item and its dialog box.
Once you are in the Open dialog box, select the PSD file you want to open, go to the File Format button on the lower left-hand corner of said dialog box and from the list of formats available in the pop-up menu choose Camera Raw.  The Open button on the lower right will become active and you can then open your file in Adobe Camera Raw.
Just be sure not to choose the "Photoshop Raw" format from that list of formats in the pop-up menu. "Photoshop Raw" has nothing to do with digital photography at all; it's an ancient, obsolete file format that no one should be using these days.

  • Error message when trying to send .dng file from Lr to Ps

If I am working in Lr (5.4) and try to send a .dng file from Lr to Photoshop CC (reinstalled latest version from Adobe.com today, 4/13/2014), I get this message: "
Adobe Photoshop CC cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CC works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop CC today and that did not fix the problem. I am in OS 10.8.5 on an iMac. Thanks!

    Hello,
Programs that run in the background cannot address controls on the frontend. This is why you are not able to run a Program using SAP Office Integration which is a Frontend Control and can be used only with the SAP Gui. Since background process cannot make use of UI screens or actions hence it's not possible use SAP Office Integration in background processing. The reason for this is explained in note 674060. Therefore sending emails using a batch macro is not supported.

  • Olympus E-P1: Why DNG files from DNG-Converter, Lightroom or CameraRaw are invalid ?

    Hello from Spain:
    I've got a Olympus Pen E-P1.
I work with DNG Converter 5.5, Lightroom 2.5, CameraRaw 5.5, Photoshop CS4 with my *.ORF files with no problems, and I can convert ORF in DNG with those software smooth, but...
I can't open those DNG files with DNG Profile Editor. It display a error message "Could not open the selected image. Note that the selected image must be a valid DNG color image".
I'm trying to create a E-P1 DNG Profile using ColorChecker Passport. When I try to import a DNG file displays a similar error message "Can't open the file. Is a invalid DNG file".
What is occurring about DNG files from E-P1's ORF?.
    Thank you,
    Juanlu.

    Hi, Beat:
    Thanks for your offer.
Here you are a link to _B101110.ORF from my E-P1 for anyone who wants to try.

  • Can I save a dng file from Photoshop6 to import back into Lightroom 4

Can I save a dng file from Photoshop6 to import back into Lightroom 4. I don't understand why this is not straight forward.

    Hello!
The DNG format's goal is to be an universal file formats for camera raw files: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html?promoid=DTEHA
You can save a DNG from camera raw without a problem.
Just go the the bottom left hand corner of the interface, and select "save image".
(as explained here in the help files: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/creativesuite/cs/using/WS91C1E0BD-9600-42b2-8EBE-1E012ED61058. html#WSB0DC278F-B3DF-4a60-88BC-B3D6A852C242 )
Or are you trying to save an file edited in Photoshop as a DNG?
For what purpose, exactly? A TIFF, PSD or PSB file can have a raw file, saved as a Smart Object (to allow later reprocessing in Camera Raw) and all the pixel/vector editing layers intact.
If saved with maximize compatibility, it can be opened in Lightroom for cataloging, and editing, if needed.

  • Error in DNG files from LR 3.2 using RW2 raw files?

I'm using DNG Profile Editor to generate appropriate profiles for infra-red images produced by converted Canon 5d and Panasonic G1 cameras.
In the case of the 5d this works fine and I've generated good profiles.  However, with the G1 I get an error when trying to open the DNG files in DNG Profile Editor that the files are not valid DNG color files.  I've produced DNG files from the original RW2 raw files in LR 3.2 both at time of import and using export command -- in both cases although the files are the right size (~13mb) they have dimensions of 0x0 pixels -- I'm assuming this is causing the error in Profile Editor?.  When I carry out identical operations with CR2 files from the 5d I get DNG files with the correct pixel dimensions (5616x3744).
Has anyone else seen this problem? -- is it a known issue? -- is there a work-around?
    Thanks for your help!
    John.

Are you sure you changed the compatibility options correctly? The issue is that the G1 DNG images in the default 5.4 compatibility are using a newer DNG version not supported by the current public version of the DNG Profile Editor. That's why you need to choose the older "4.6" compatibility option, then Export the DNG again.

  • Does aperture handle dng files from a scan?

I'm scanning 35 mm slides via a Pacific Image 5000 through Vuescan. The advice the manual gives me (Vuescan) is to scan raw to a disc and then read the scan via Vuescan to do some basic clean-up. I 'd to send this processed image raw (.dng) to Aperture for final processing and saving without going through saving other formats .(pdf, tiff, etc) intil I 'm done with the image. Can this be done? Aperture says the dng file is not in a format it can read. How can that be if Aperture is supposed to handle raw?

Aperture can handle many raw formats, but not all. mainly the raw formats of professional cameras. And it will depend on your Aperture version, which raw formats are supported. See this list:
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
As to DNG-files, see this footnote:
Aperture works with most DNG files generated from cameras that support this format and with DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the “Convert to Linear Image” option turned off.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.
