DNG support in Photoshop Element

I want to catalog my RAW files in PSE. To day I catalog the resulting JPEGs after RAW conversion but I'm not happy with this workflow. The DNG format opens up the possibility to write tags to the XMP part of the DNG file.
When I try to write my tags to the DNG file PSE do nothing and gives no messages... Is Adobe going to fix this?
If I want to try another organizer - is there any method to export captions and tag from PSE if you can't write this info to the file?

I haven't replaced my NEF file with DNG. Just want to find a method to add caption and tag to my RAW file and have the possibility to take my work to another DAM application in the future. If PSE can write metadata to DNG like ACR/Brigde this could be a safe route...
Are you other not concerned by this missing functionallity?

Does Adobe still support Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 & Adobe Premiere Elements 12?

No, but then they never do support PSE very much. What's the problem?

  • Apple! Please support Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 with iTunes!

After upgrading Adobe Photoshop Elements from version 5 to version 6, pictures can not be synced. Please fix iTunes to support version 6. I have the latest itunes version 7.5.0.20 on windows.

iTunes doesn’t support syncing with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. Adobe made significant changes to the program’s internal database, which iTunes reads directly. Hacking the registry won’t work, since iTunes is expecting the older database format. Apple is finally starting to update its documents to explicitly state they only support versions 3-5, e.g.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305703
My clumsy work-around is to export the desired photos from PSE 6 into a set of Windows folders and then sync iTunes with the folders. The likelihood that Apple will fix iTunes soon seems small.

  • .m4a Import Supported in Photoshop Elements 12

The Adobe web help indicates that .m4a audio files are supported for import.  They are not recognized when one attempts to search for them through Photoshop Elements 12.  What is wrong with the product?

Can you please share a screenshot of the message you are seeing?
    Ideally .m4a should import fine.

  • Canon S120 RAW support in Photoshop Elements

I have Elements version 11. It will not recognize RAW files from my new Canon S120 camera. I saw that others have said that version 12 doesn't recognize RAW from this camera either. Anyone have any suggestions short of buying the full version of Photoshop, which I don't otherwise need?

    Hi,
The S120 requires Camera Raw 8.3 or later. This is an update to PSE 12 but is not compatible with PSE 11.
If you don't want to buy PSE 12, then you could download & install the free Adobe DNG converter. You would then use that to convert your CR2 files to DNG files. The DNG files can then be processed by PSE 11.

  • Retina Display Support in Photoshop Elements 12

I've just upgraded from version 9, mainly because I thought 12 would have Retina display support now, like CS6 does.
To my surprise, it doesn't! What's the deal here?
There are a *lot* of people buying MacBook Pros with retina displays, millions.
Is this going to be addressed in a patch soon? I'm not going to wait for version 13 otherwise, I will just return my copy to Amazon and get used to one of the alternatives on the App Store.
    Please advise further. Thank you.

Adobe probably won’t say publically if or when PSE might support Retina, but they may be assuming people who have Retina displays also have the cash for Photoshop?
PSE12 does support 64-bit memory spaces on a Mac, finally, so maybe that is also a reason to upgrade to it, and also a reason why the programmers were too busy to worry about Retina just yet.
You could put in your request for Retina support on the feedback.photoshop.com area where Adobe supposedly monitors each discussion.

    Hi,
Camera raw 8.7.1 is not supported by Photoshop Elements 12.
You need to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13 or you could use the Adobe DNG converter.
The DNG converter is a standalone application which can take the CR2 files and convert them toDNG files. The DNG files can then be processed by Photoshop Elements 12. This does add an extra step to your workflow though.

Adobe updates Camera Raw to support new cameras only for the latest (at the time) version of Photoshop.
Here is a list of supported cameras vs. Camera Raw versions:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Here is a list of Camera Raw versions vs. Photoshop releases (which is, sadly, starting to fall out of date):
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/311515?tstart=0
Specifically, if Photoshop Elements 10 cannot update to Camera Raw 8.2 or newer, which I suspect it can't, then you will need to do one of two things:
    1.  For the greatest integration and convenience, upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop Elements (currently 12).  Then you will be able to open your 70D files directly.
    2.  Download and install the latest version of the free DNG Converter.  Then you will be able to convert your 70D .CR2 raw files to .DNG format, that Photoshop Elements 10 will be able to open.

Did you remove the bits of the failed install before going on? Try creating a new admin account for the install. If that doesn't work, try doing a fresh download from Adobe's site. Even if you bought the boxed version you can install the trial and enter your serial number.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 compatible with Mountain Lion?

I'm wondering if PSE 8 is compatible with Mountain lion, and if so, is anyone else having trouble installing it?

  • Photoshop Elements 7 Edit feature

A friend of mine has purchased Photoshop Elements 7 and is having trouble with it. The first menu opens and gives you the option to organize, edit, create, or share. Everything works except the Edit feature. When I click on the button it starts to load and then crashes. It doesn't provide me with any identifying error message so it's been difficult for me to search for solutions.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TechNote
Photoshop Elements 7 Editor crashes at "Building TWAIN menu items" during startup (Windows)
    Ratings:0
    Issue
When you try to start the Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Editor on Windows, the application closes when the splash screen displays "Building TWAIN menu items" and Windows may return one of these error messages:
"Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Editor) has stopped working."
"Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Editor) has encountered a problem and needs to close."
    Reason
Photoshop Elements 7 includes support for a technology called TWAIN, which lets you control certain image-acquisition devices--including many scanners, the scanner portion of many all-in-one printers, and some webcams--directly from within Photoshop Elements.
During its startup process, the Photoshop Elements 7 Editor loads its TWAIN plug-in. This plug-in immediately begins communicating with the driver for each scanner or other TWAIN-compatible device that you have installed on your computer.
If the TWAIN plug-in cannot communicate with a device driver, then the Editor crashes.
    Solution
Do Solution 1 first. Proceed to Solution 2 only if you wish to operate your device directly from within the Photoshop Elements Editor.
Solution 1: Disable the TWAIN plug-in.
The Photoshop Elements Editor does not load plug-ins whose file name begins with a tilde (~). Rename the TWAIN plug-in to prevent the Editor from loading it.
    To disable the TWAIN plug-in:
    Do one of the following:
If you are using a 32-bit edition of Windows, then navigate in Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export\.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then navigate in Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export\.
Note: If you do not know which edition of Windows you are using, see "Determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit edition of Windows" (TechNote kb407673).
Rename Twain_32.8BA to ~Twain_32.8BA. (You may not see the file name extension .8BA.)
When the TWAIN plug-in is disabled, you cannot operate your device by choosing File > Import > [Device name] in the Photoshop Elements Editor.
If you do not wish to operate your device directly from within the Editor, then you can use other software -- such as the software that came with the device, the Windows Scanner And Camera Wizard, or Windows Photo Gallery -- to operate the device and save image files from the device. (For instructions, see the documentation for the other software.) Then you can open those files in Photoshop Elements.
If you would like to operate your device directly from within the Editor, then proceed to Solution 2.
Solution 2: Troubleshoot installed drivers and re-enable the TWAIN plug-in.
If you use a scanner, all-in-one printer, or another TWAIN-compatible device on your system, then the device's driver may be out-of-date. Download the latest version of the driver for your device from the manufacturer's website. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the driver. (If you have more than one TWAIN-compatible device, then download and install the latest driver for each device.)
After you have installed the latest driver for each device, re-enable the TWAIN plug-in and restart the Photoshop Elements Editor.
    To re-enable the TWAIN plug-in:
Rename ~Twain_32.8BA to Twain_32.8BA. (You may not see the file name extension .8BA.)
If the Editor successfully starts with the TWAIN plug-in enabled, then you can operate your device by choosing File > Import > [Device name].
If the Editor fails to start, then the driver for one or more TWAIN-compatible devices that you no longer have or no longer use may be causing the problem. (A driver will remain on the computer even after you disconnect a device.) Identify each device that you do not use, and then follow the manufacturer's instructions to completely remove each device's driver.
After you remove the driver for each device that you do not use, restart the Photoshop Elements Editor.
If the Editor still fails to start, then the driver for one or more of the devices that you currently use is incompatible with the Photoshop Elements TWAIN plug-in. In that case, disable the TWAIN plug-in (see Solution 1) and leave it disabled. (You may also wish to periodically check the device manufacturer's website for driver updates. If an updated driver becomes available, then repeat this solution.)

  • Effects in Photoshop elements 8

How do you restore the effects when you delete them in error.
Or, is there a place to update effects for this program?

You don't say which OS you are using.
You have to delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file. This file will take several minutes...maybe up to 10... to rebuild so be patient. From what I understand, you must delete this file not just simply rename it.
    1. Start by closing  Elements.
    2. Navigate to MediaDatabase.db3 file.
    3. Delete MediaDatabase.db3 file.
    4. Lauch Elements...and leave it alone for about 10 minutes while the MediaDatabase file rebuilds.
If on a PC, you have to first "show hidden files and folders" as the file you need to delete and rebuild to get your effect back is in a hidden folder. Note: I recommend changing this setting back to "do not show hidden files and folders" once you have deleted the MediaDatabase.db3 file.
    Show hidden files and folders:
    Vista/Windows 7

    XP:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/display-hidden-folders-in-xp/
    MediaDatabase.db3 file path:
    Windows XP:
    C:\ Documents and Settings\ All Users\ Application Data\ Adobe\ Photoshop Elements\ 8.0\ Locale\ En_US (or your locale)\ MediaDatabase.db3
    Windows Vista:
    C:\ ProgramData\ Adobe\ Photoshop Elements\ 8.0\ Locale\ En_US (or your locale)
If you are on a Mac, the file path is:
    On the Mac the Mediadatabase.db3 is located at Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US
The Library is the top level library (the one on the same level as Applications)
If you run into problems, have a look through the Elements Village forum thread I have linked which is walking a couple of posters through the process of doing this procedure.
