DNG version for PS cs4

Running PS cs4 on Windows 7.  I have a new Nikon and the NEF files aren't supported.  I think I need to install dng converter to access/use these files.  I don't want to lose my ability to go straight to ARC without converting to dng for NEFs from my old compatable camera.  What verion of dng do I need.  Can it be installed separate from the the related Camera Raw upgrade?

The DNG Converter is a standalone program and converts an entire folder of raw files to DNGs, so as long as you have your old and new camera photos in separate folders it should be ok.  If not, you might want to separate them temporarily before doing the conversion.
You will want the latest version of the DNG Converter that supports your new camera, so either DNG Converter 6.7 if that is new enough, or the DNGC 7.1 RC at labs.adobe.com.  The DNGs it produces will be compatible with the older ACR version.   Check what the DNG Converter’s compatibility setting is, using “CR 5.4 or later” for CS4’s ACR as long as you have at least that version of ACR installed for CS4.

  • Can't Download Trial version for InDesign CS4! Please help ASAP!

    Hi Everyone!
I have been trying to download the trail version of InDesign CS4 into my PC and it doesn't download.
What happens is that when I choose the software and click download, it takes me to a page that says "the download should start automatically, if it doesn't click here". The download doesn't start automatically and when I click what it says, it takes me to the previous page that I started the download.
I hope I am clear enough.
Please help me ASAP, I need this for a project that is due very soon!!!!!!
    Thanks a bunch,
    Rose

What version of Windows are you running (that's your Operating System). I've never seen that hand thing, but I don't use Internet Explorer. It's clearly a security feature  somewhere that is preventing the download, either in the browser or some other antivirus, malware blocker, or firewall program you have installed. What version of IE?
Allowing scripting and ActiveX controls would be in the IE Tools menu under Internet Options, Security Tab, custom settings button. It might be best to get someone with more experience to come in and help you make any changes rather than trying to do this yourself since you don't appear to be skilled in the inner workings of the computer.
If all else fails, I think you can order the trial on a disk.

  • DNG Version for Students

I'm teaching a Lightroom class for our camera club and plan to give them dng files to work on as part of the class. Everyone should have LR 2 or 3 updated to the latest version (but this does not always happen). Looking at the DNG Converter, I can select a variety of dng versions and am unsure which version I should use for compatibility with the students. It seems to me that Camera Raw 4.6 would be a good choice as anything from LR 2.1 on should have compatibility just in case they have not updated to the latest LR version. In addition, if I later teach Photoshop, this would provide compatibility back to CS3. I'm looking for comments on this and if I did this, what would I find missing if a student used LR3 (or CS5). Thanks.

The version compatibility goes like this:
ACR 2.4 / LR 1.0 / DNG 1.0 — the initial DNG version that had some flaws (masked pixels, JPEG specs) that had to quickly be fixed in the next version. Looks like this version is not really in use today.
ACR 4.1 / LR 1.1 / DNG 1.1 — a quick (couple of months) update of the initial specs. Fixes flaws of the previous version. This version lasted long and is still used for in-camera DNGs. One should not use a version older that this.
ACR 4.6 / LR 2.1 / DNG 1.2 — introduces the concept of DNG camera profiles.
ACR 5.4 / LR 2.4 / DNG 1.3 — introduces the concept of opcodes, or, for any practical use today, "manufacturer-enforced" lens corrections. If you have a file with lens corrections applied behind the scenes for cameras like Panasonic LX3, any m4/3 cameras, etc. and convert to a spec older than this, the raw data will be lost and converted to a flat demosaiced 16-bit file, sort of like a TIFF.
I think you should go with the latest version. First, if your students all use LR2 or LR3, there's no reason one should stay with, say, LR2.2 when LR2.7 is available for free. Second, even if you use a latest version, a dng might well be compatible (and most often it is) with older spec dng readers if they do not use features introduced in new versions.

  • Updated camera raw / DNG converter for CS4 compatible with D800 NEF?

I have just bought a D800 but cannot convert my NEF files into DNG. I have Photoshop CS4 with latest camera raw updates available. I see in the forum that an update is available in the lab but only for CS5. Shall we expect an update for CS4 as well? Thanks

No.  There will be no more ACR updates for Photoshop CS4.  That version is no longer supported.  You can download the DNG converter and convert your images to digital negative files that can then be opened in the ACR that you already have.  Since your camera is so new I'm not sure if it's even supported by the DNG converter.  You might have to wait for the next update.
Your other alternative would be to upgrade your Photoshop.  Of course, that will cost a little money.  But not nearly as much as your new camera did.

  • Hi there, i want to buy a registered version of PS CS4 (and an Upgrade to CS6)from a private Person...is there any Possibility to check if the Adobe ID,Licence,User is a real person...or a fake before buying it? Thanks for helping!

    Hi,
just got an offer from a private Person, who owns a boxed Version of Photoshop CS4 (DVD) and an Upgrade from CS4 to CS6....he told me that he can transfer the current license to me... now there's one important question for me...
Is there any possibility to check his Adobe-ID (which he already told me) if it's the same adress, name, etc. as he told me...
or if there is an registered Version of PS CS4 owned by this Adobe-ID?
Just like to check if he's a real person or a fake...don't want to buy any stolen or illegal software...or beeing punked after paying the money...
Thank you very much for helping me! :-)
    Chriss

Old versions of Photoshop are not marketed by Adobe. Only CS5 can be upgraded to CS6.  There are many scams on the web if you find a cheap copy of Photoshop out there its most likely a scam... Be careful.....

Thanks, I was thinking so. I installed my CS4 from a CD in 2008, and it looks like Adobe has taken another approach to selling their products. I'll be downloading CC Photoshop a little later today.

I have CS4 for Windows; I'd like to download it to my Mac as well.  Can Adobe provide me a Mac (OS X 10.9.5) version for free?

You can get a Mac version for free via download but your license will not work with it.  CS licenses are operating system specific, so a Windows license cannot be applied to a Mac, and vice versa.   You could install a Windows emulator on the Mac to try to get a Windows version working on it.

My current Camera Raw 5.7 for Photoshop CS4 Extended does not support Canon EOS 6D. What can I do? Will there be a Photoshop Camera RAW for that?

You would need Camera Raw 7.3 or later to open those files. Adobe is not going to update CS4. You can either get a newer version of Photoshop that comes with a current version of Camera Raw, or you can use the DNG converter to save your files down to the ACR version that works with CS4.

  • Latest ACR version for CS3?

I have CS3 and ACRv4.6 which does not recognize Panasonic Lumix LX3 raw files.
What is the latest ACR version for CS3 and where can I download it from?
    Thanks.

Version 4.6 is the last update for Photoshop CS3. You will need to either download the free DNG Converter version 5.4 (or the beta 5.5) and convert the raw file to DNG or update to Photoshop CS4. If you go the DNG route, even versions of Camera Raw as far back as 2.4 in Photoshop CS will be able to read the converted files.

  • Installation Hassle For Photoshop CS4

I bought a Bamboo Fun Wacom Tablet that came with Photoshop Elements 6.0. Under Wacom's Privilege Program, I bought Adobe Photoshop CS4 for $299. http://www.wacom.com/privileges/privileges.cfm?id=55&tablet=BambooFun
    https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&view=ols_prod&category=/Spec ialPages/Photoshop&affiliateID=70281#loc=en_us&store=OLS-US&category=/SpecialPages/Photosh op&view=ols_prod
After recieving Photoshop Elements, I installed and registered the product to my Windows Vista 64-bit PC.  After recieving Photoshop CS4, I installed the product on the same computer.  The installation went fine, but when I start it up, it starts up as Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. I entered in the serial number (name on sticker is Photoshop UPSL) from the back of my CD case without problems.  It brings me to the screen to enter Photoshop Elements' serial number. I select the 6.0 version and enter the serial number correctly, but I recieve the message "Serial number does not match the product you selected."
I do not understand why my Photoshop Elements serial number is not activating the program, nor do I understand why I have recieved a Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial Version from a CD case and installation box the has Photoshop CS4 written all over it..  If buying Photoshop like this has become this much as a hassle, they should do away with upgrade products and give away true full versions of Photoshop CS4 for 50% off.

The serial number on the back of my Photoshop CS4 DVD case is the one I used. It is the only 24-digit number that came with the CS4 package.  The next screen prompted me to enter Photoshop Elements' serial number, mentioning the serial number I entered is for an upgrade version of Photoshop CS4 Extended.  This does not sound correct because I did not buy a CS4 Extended software, yet it loads up as such.
Photoshop Elements is also a 24-digit serial number. The sticker on the back of Bamboo Fun's Software Bundle CD case that installs Photoshop Elements says it is version 6.0, which the software itself says in the Help > About Photoshop Elements Menu.  But when I enter the serial number with Photoshop Elements 6.0 selected, I get the message, "The serial number does not match the product you selected."
During installation, it never prompted me if I wanted to try a trial version of Photoshop CS4 Extended, only Photoshop-related options were Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 (64-bit).
