DNS  after reducing the advertised EDNS UDP packet size to 512 octets

hello
There is something wrong with my DNS server, it open internet webs so slow,and i have no idea with this .

also interesting, when setting DNS servers IPs in Network Settings for your host,
it is important that the IPs are not doubled.
in example if you have Networksettings like
automatic DHCP given from router or server.
IP-Adress: 192.168.2.2
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Router IP: 192.168.2.1
DNS-Server: 127.0.0.1, 192.168.2.2
wich means localhost and again same machine, just different IP..
then your lookup mechanism has to walk thru this steps to know if there is nothing inside to resolve adresses.
which means in this example it would take double the time if DNS-Server would be just 127.0.0.1
you can see if there is a lot to work thru in your logs.
look for something like "sizing zone task pool based on 9 zones".
this mount of zones will change if you set the correct DNS server IP.
more zones are slower than less, very logical!
but this will not solve your problem with packet size at all, it just reduces circles after dns resolves not known adresses even with packet size change.

    Dear Karthik,
    <b>ALE:</b>
    Use Transaction UPSC02         -      ALE Distribution Unit: Packet Types.
    Performance Optimization for <b>ODS</b> Objects:
    To ensure a good ODS object loading performance, take the following into account:
           1.      Creating SIDs
    The creation of SIDs takes a long time and can be avoided in the following cases by:
           Not setting the indicator for BEx Reporting if you are using the ODS object only as a data store. If you do set this indicator, SIDs are created for all new characteristic values.
           If you use line items (for example, document number or time stamp) as characteristics in the ODS object, in the characteristic maintenance, indicate these as Attribute Only.
    SIDs are created in parallel if <b>parallel activation</b> is switched on (see last point). They are then created with the same number of parallel processes as created for the activation.
    However, if you specify a server group or a special server in customizing, these specifications are not only valid for the activation, but also for the SID creation. The creation of SIDs runs on the application server on which the batch job also runs.
           2.      DB partitioning in active data tables (technical A table)
    By partitioning by database level, you can delete data from the ODS object much more quickly. As a partitioning criterion, choose the characteristic by which you want to delete.  For more information on partitioning database tables, see the database documentation (DBMS-CD). Partitioning is supported by the following databases: Oracle, DB2/390, Informix.
           3.      Indexing
    Use selection criteria for queries for ODS objects. If the key fields are specified, the existing primary index is used. The more frequently accessed characteristic should appear on the left-hand side.
    If you did not specify the key fields completely in the selection criteria (visible in the SQL trace), you improve the run time of the query by creating additional indexes. You can create these secondary indexes in the ODS object maintenance.
           4.      Activation of data in an ODS object
    To improve system performance when activating data in the ODS object, you can make the following entries in Customizing under SAP Customizing Implementation Guide -> SAP NetWeaver -> Business Information Warehouse -> General BW Settings ->  ODS Object Settings:
           the maximum number of parallel processes when activating data in the ODS object as when moving SIDs
           the minimum number of data records for each data package when activating data in the ODS object, meaning you define the size of the data packages that are activated
           the maximum wait time in seconds when activating data in the ODS object. This is the time when the main process (batch process) waits for the dialog process that is split before it classifies it as having failed.
           the server group that needs to be used when activating the data in ODS objects in parallel You have to create the server groups beforehand using the following path: Tools -> Administration -> Network -> RFC Destination, RFC -> RFC Groups. If you do not specify anything here, then the activation runs on the server on which the batch process was started for activation. If a server from the server group is not active, then the activation is cancelled.
           5.      Loading unique data records
    If you only load unique data records (meaning data records with nonrecurring key combinations) into the ODS object, then the loading performance is improved when you set the indicator Unique Data Records in the ODS object maintenance.
    The records are then updated more quickly because the system no longer needs to check whether the record already exists. You do have to be sure that there duplicate records are definitely not being loaded, because this will lead to termination.

    Naveen.

  • Can't delete primary zone in DNS after moving the server

    Woe is me!
    Our MacMini was hosted at a Colo site and working fine. No firewall in front of the machine, so we turned on the server firewall and only allowed mail, web, ftp, and a couple of other services. This worked great using our external public DNS wired to our domain names and public fixed IP address. Later, we got VPN up a running (the trick was to create a second, local IP address for the ethernet port), but this also required us to turn on the server's DNS to create a split-brained DNS server.
    Everything was working swimmingly... and then we had a hard drive crash. Since we were thinking about moving the server onsite anyway (our POS system was accessed through the VPN, but it could be slow and made our tasting room dependent on Internet access in order to run the POS), we ordered Comcast business class internet with a fixed IP address.
    We updated the external public DNS to the new public fixed ip. Rather than plug the mini directly to the Comcast router (which is in pass-through mode), we elected to put a AirPort Extreme in front of it, mainly so we could get all of the POS computers on the same local network without using the mini as a DHCP/NAT router. We created a DHCP reservation on the Extreme so that the mini had a fixed local IP address. We port forwarded everything we wanted to expose to the Internet. Email started to work again. However, web services and VPN are nada.
    This being Snow Leopard Server and having spent literally hours debugging DNS issues when we first got the server, I knew it wouldn't be straightforward. And it hasn't been. Even changing the IP address of the server has been a chore.
    We ran "sudo changeip <old IP address> <new IP address>".
    Then we ran "sudo changeip -checkhostname" and received:
    "$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Primary address     = 10.0.8.2 <new static internal IP address>
    Current HostName    = <servername>.<domainname>.com
    The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool.
    dirserv:success = "success""
    Oh no, the black pit of death.
    Even though I tried to modify the machine record in the local DNS to reflect the new internal static IP address, Nada.
    So, looking back on my previous research from Mr Hoffman and others, I stopped the DNS service, and I deleted the primary zone and reverse lookups in order to rebuild them from scratch. Except that no matter what I do, I can't delete the primary zone - it comes back like Dracula (even though the reverse zone and all of the zone records are gone). I tried rebuilding everything using the undeletable zone, but after a few services (saved each one separately), they would suddenly disappear.
    I am leery of messing with the DNS files on the server as I don't want to hose up Server Admin (my command line skills are rudimentary and slow). I have so much installed on the machine now that I am concerned about someone saying "reinstall".
    Help!
    Related to this is that it is not clear to me in web services which IP address you should use for the sites. The internal IP? The public IP? I thought Apache cared about the external IP address. And I think Apache is hosed at the moment due to my DNS troubles anyway.
    Thanks in advance!

    Morris Zwick wrote:
    And does anyone know which IP you enter for your sites in the web service? The public static IP or the internal private static IP?
    For the external DNS server I am sure you have already deduced that it should be the static IP issued you by Comcast and this will be forwarded by your router to your server.
    For your internal DNS server you could use either the internal LAN IP, or the external IP although the later might be affected by your firewall so this you will need to test.
    For the Web Server service in Server admin, if your only running a single website you could avoid the issue by just using the wildcard entry which will respond to any IP address, so this would be an empty host name and an IP address of *
    In fact you don't have to specify an IP address you could just use the hostname, so it will listen to traffic arriving at your server addressed to any IP address and as long as the URL that was requested includes the hostname you define for the site it will get responded to. So if as an example you have two websites you want to serve
    www.example.com
    site2.example.com
    then as long as both have the IP address for the site as an * (asterisk) then both should work as separate sites for traffic addressed to either the LAN or WAN IP address of the server.
    You will still need to use two IP addresses on the server to enable VPN, you could use a USB Ethernet adapter for the second one. Port forwarding for VPN is not as simple as other traffic as VPN requires traffic different to the standard IP and UDP packets. Routers that support 'VPN Passthrough' are specifically designed to accomodate this but I don't know if the AirPort Extreme does this. I have also found PPTP copes better with this sort of setup than L2TP although PPTP is generally regarded as less secure.

  • Ora-4031 after reducing the max sga

    Oracle 10g R2 and Baan 5c on AIX 5.3 L (p550, 3792M , 4 lcpu)
    After I reduced the max_sga_size (so to avoid the paging), now I see more ora-4031 (out of shared memory loading library cache object) warnings in the udump trc file, not in alert file. In addition, they appeared in the log.ora.sql of Baan as an error message, so the query requests were hung or stopped.
    Reading from other posts and metalink note: 146599.1, it indicated that the system has extensive fragmentation problem. (REQUEST_FAILURES is > 0 and LAST_FAILURE_SIZE is > SHARED_POOL_RESERVED_MIN_ALLOC. )
    So I used the tips form AskTom to find the query scripts that may have bind variable problem and I did found some, most of them in 2~4 multiples. However, not all of them gave ora-4031 warning/error, actually only very few.
    So what should I do for the best practice of the performance? Correct the problems with the bind variable of all queries or
    increase the max SGA again.
    All the queries were produced by the Baan´s processes or modules.

    I got hit this thread while searching some other subjects.
    (This is kind of old... but answered for a long time)
    I think this is somewhat interesting problem.
    Here is one query showing in the query of mulitple copies in system by using asktom technique. The system return 3 copies.
    SELECT /*+ FIRST_ROWS INDEX(A TTSSOC@$IDX@) */ A.T$CLST FROM >BAANDB.TTSSOC@ A WHERE (A.T$CLST = :@ OR A.T$CLST = :@) AND A.T$ORNO = :@I think there is a chance that you're hitting bind mismatch problem.
    Is [email protected]$CLST(What an annoying names~) column is VARCHAR2 type? If yes, following thread will be helpful.

  • IP Multicast: UDP Packet size!

    Hi,
              Does anyone know what is the size of the UDP packets which WLS

    WLS uses 32 K. UDP packets by default. So, you should not have any problems
              on our certified platforms.
              Are you by any chance trying to run the server on Tandem?

  • How can i attach a user-specified header to each UDP packet?

    Hello,
    i have here a question about UDP:
    i want to stream live-videos using UDP. To avoid/observe some possible problems that could occur (e.g. wrong packet-order, packet loss etc.) i am planning to add a header to each UDP packet with e.g. frame-nr. , frame-size, packet-nr...
    Question:
    1. (How) Can i control the UDP packet size in LabVIEW?
    2. If possible, how can i add a user specified header to each/certain (e.g. the first or the last packet of the frame) packet?
    Thanks!
    WLAN
    Message Edited by wlan on 01-26-2007 03:02 AM

    WLAN,
    i just copied the help regarding the max size-terminal from the LV-help:
    "max size is the maximum number of bytes to read. The default is 548. Windows If you wire a value other than 548 to this input, Windows might return an error because the function cannot read fewer bytes than are in a packet"
    So, please do not change this value....
    UDP creates packets from the data you transmitt. Each packet in Windows should have a size of 548 bytes or less. So this should read one whole packet at a time.... Decreasing this could lead to problems if the packet is larger.... Increasing this value changes nothing since the packets themselfs do not get larger only by trying to read more bytes..... Since you cannot alter the packetsize from LV, you shouldnt bother about that anymore.
    And to add (again): UDP does not garantuee ANY correct transission. So you will never get any note if the first packet of a frame was lost. If you need some kind of garantuee for this, you have to use TCP (btw. infact, the TCP header uses 192 bytes, containing the infos like seen in the attached gif).

  • Controlling packet size from 32K to 4K for SQL DSN

    I've been engaged by my SQL administrator to find out how the packet size can be reduced from 32K to 4K in the CF9 Enterprise environment in a multi-server configuration. Although it's not likely related to the version rather than the JDBC Drivers provided in the product, none the less there is no clear way of identifying where this could be changed within the ColdFusion DSN's.  Does anybody have any insight on how to control the packet sizes in a SQL DSN i Coldfusion 9 or 9.0.1?  Would be greatly appreciated.

    If you are using MSSQL, open the CF administrator, goto the datasource, click the "Advanced Settings" button and enter in:
    packetSize=8
    within the Connection String textarea box then hit submit, there should be no need to restart anything
    Connection details for the PacketSize property:
    Valid Values
    -1 | 0 | x
    where x is an integer from 1 to 128 that represents a number of bytes.
    If set to -1, the driver uses the maximum packet size that the database server accepts.
    If set to 0, the driver uses the default packet size configured on the database server.
    If set to x, the driver uses a packet size that is calculated using the specified value multiplied by 512.
    Example
    If PacketSize=8, the packet size is set to 8 * 512 bytes (4096 bytes).
    Default
    -1
    Data Type
    int
    Microsoft recommends (4096 bytes)

    Thanks ...i read it even before...just thought may be some simple way is available.Yes - this required a little digging around to find out :-) From memory I think the link above does not include an example of how you actually do it.
    Look at the code for the Sun audio transmit example (AVTransmit2.java) and find this code snippet from the createProcessor() method:
                 Format format = tracks[0].getFormat();
                  if (tracks[0].isEnabled())
                       Format supported[] = tracks[0].getSupportedFormats();
                       tracks[0].setFormat(supported[5]);
                  else
                       tracks[0].setEnabled(false);  To change the default packet size you need to explicitly specify the uLaw codec chain and change the packetSize property along the way. So the code above now becomes:
                  Format format = tracks[0].getFormat();
                  if (tracks[0].isEnabled())
                       Format supported[] = tracks[0].getSupportedFormats();
                       tracks[0].setFormat(supported[5]);
                       RCModule rcm = new com.ibm.media.codec.audio.rc.RCModule();
                       JavaEncoder je = new com.ibm.media.codec.audio.ulaw.JavaEncoder();
                       Packetizer p = new com.sun.media.codec.audio.ulaw.Packetizer();
                       p.setPacketSize(80);
                       tracks[0].setCodecChain(new Codec[] {rcm,je,p});
                  else
                       tracks[0].setEnabled(false);         You have to create the rate converter (RCModule), the encoder (JavaEncoder) and the packetizer (Packetizer), set the packetizer's packetSize to the desired amount and specifiy the codec chain for the track. A packet size of 80 will give you 10ms.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does verizon cut customers fios speed slightly after 1 yr of beating the advertised speed??

    i have always checked my download speed on a regular basis and have been so pleased to beat the advertised speed.
    for exactly 1 yr ive averaged about 20.6 download (and sometimes up to 22!) speed on both my wired desktop and also my wireless laptop.
    now suddenly after a yr of sevice,my speed has been reduced for the past 1 week.i can get 19 mb max but i cant ever hit 20mb anymore...i have read postings on other boards claiming verizon makes sure to beat the advertised speed to make
    sure new customers are happy with the service.
    i cant help but wonder since i just hit the 1 yr service time,if my speed has been cut slightly by verizon(i hope not).
    this happened on 2 different computers at the same time and if i had a faulty fios connection,my speed would drop by more then just 1.5 mb.
    i hope i can  soon get back to my 20 mb speed that i always been so happy with.

    As long as I've had FiOS, I've never had that happen nor have I ever heard of it happening and, Verizon gains nothing by intintionally doing it.
    1MB drop isn't a drop, and you can't get a consistant read using 3rd party tests. I can use DLS or Speakeasy and get great variances hitting all of their servers.
    The only thing you can test that is consistant is Verizon's speed test to know what you're getting between you and Verizon.  Once you get on "the hwy" there are too many variables in traffic and servers.
    Of course, you shold also check to see if you coujld stand a tweek or 2.  There are some easy network tweeks that every PC needs when on a high speed network.

    I am trying to e-mail a graphics pages document I made as a PDF file.  After trying to resize the file, the photo's quality is compromised (really blurry) even after choosing "Best" quality.  What am I doing wrong.  As a regular full sized file (PDF) it's fine, but when it gets reduced, it's bad and it needs to get printed from the e-mail copy I'm trying to send.  HELP! Please.

    If there are a lot and/or large images the file will inevitably be large, no matter what.
    You can reduce them down as far as possible by cropping and scaling them to the final size before creating the pdf. You can do this by opening the images in Preview .app and using Menu > Tools to reduce the resolution and to crop.
    If you have used transparency effects eg shadow, reflection, transparency, 3D charts, OSX will by default render these at 72dpi in the pdf.

  • How to reduce view size in the info page after clicking the apps?

    The apps icon was missing from category and top chart for a few days. The icon came back after turning off and on the iPad 2. However the font size and images in the info page was corrupted. It is much larger than before and I could not reduce them.
    Please help where can I change the settings to reinstate the original font size.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
    Did you try to set java min and max to different sizes?
    Then you still need a full GC to reduce the heap
    because only the full GC compacts memory.
    For IBM JRE you will need this to compact anyway.
    In general applications perform better with heapmin=max.
    -Xmx<size> set maximum Java heap size. example: -Xmx64m
    -Xmn<size> set new generation Java heap size. example: -Xmn64m
    Different size make it compacter but are more expensive(time)
    Do you run Full GC as system.gc()?
    I would never do this.
    Let the JRE take care of this.
    Number 1 GC rule is avoid it.

  • Can i reduce the size of a numbers file after creating it?

    I have created a template using numbers and after adding the information and photographs the file appears too big to email; can the numbers file be reduced after created to enable emailing?

    Hi there.
    Have you considered mailing a link to Dropbox, iDrive  or some other cloud storage?
    Compressor is designed primarily for audio and video, and graphics file formats. If you have a lot of photos that are ballooning the size of your spreadsheets, I'd use a photo editor to reformat/resize them. It doesn't have to be Photoshop. Preview, for example, can do that.
    Also…there is a an active iWork discussion forum in the ASC, and you might consider asking your question here.
